OBIEE 11g time series: regression on ago / todate function ?

We are testing the migration to OBIEE 11G.
We are currently in 10.3 version
We have a problem on AGO / TO_DATE OBIEE functions that returns null results on existing reports.
In 10.3 version, these functions work properly with the actual TIME dimension.
Here is how we designed time Dimension:
TOTAL -> Year -> Quarter -> MONTH -> WEEK -> DATE_KEY, FULL_DATE
DATE_KEY is a number and referenced as a foreign key on our fact table.

If it's not the case, your dimension is not good when you make a report on the week grain for a year ago for instance.

Use of time series functions with horizontally fragmented fact tables
Hi Guys,
in OBIEE 10g it wasn't possible to use time series functions [AGO, TO_DATE] on horizontally fragmented fact tables. This was due to be fixed in 11g.
Has this been fixed? Has somebody used this new functionality? What the the limitations?

In years of setting systems right from the tsr80 4, 5.125 floppy,no hd's. I have came to discover that data is power from a +- scale. Managing this power for data is another thing. Cpu and components need to understand the scale and that is what the problem for most is. Core Cell, is a way of managing the voltages for power supplied to critical system operation and in the duriation of playing with your computer, the software gets confused, with the sorces of power supplied by the power pack. To use core cell correctley you have to disable power saving features in the bios also disable power saving features in windows itself other than turn off monitor. Next is making sure irq's and dma's are not conflicting even if windows say no conflicts there may be things. Check too see if usb is sharing a irq or a dma because the data is power and if they are sharing. the power will sometimes get a jolt and blow up the data and casue a" you know ",bsd or the dreaded illigal thing. System compatiably can be managed by turning down the fsb slightly lower than expected this will create a even data or +- source to address. Remember refresh rate's of monitor to clock speeds in video cards need the same care to power and compatiablity, the board itself,once all is set correctly your system will run like a dream. I got the LSR delta and I had problems but setting power for system operation fixed all problems and please make sure to load drivers for usb2 only if you use pci usb 2 complient devices or you will get problems. One last thing is a good power regulator or a power switching system is what a computer loves. This will supply a good steady flow of power to your power supply rather than zitter bits of uneven power. Have a good one im getting drunk now
It is always good to maintain all the date related fields in one table call it(Time dimension, calender dimension...), the reason for being said like this in obiee is for best modeling purposes. OBIEE best modeling approaches always insists on star schema with proper fact-dimension defined in the layers of the rpd.
All the time series functions like Ago, To_Date can only be used only when we you have well defined time dimension.
As you mentioned that you have some bunch of dates in your fact table itself, and I dont know if you can create a time dimension by adding a datewid or some thing to be your unique combination of the date.
If you cant do that then you have to join your fact table back to your fact table(Self join) itself for you to be able to do any kind of year over year analysis or period over period analysis. (Comparing between base period/year and prev period/year)
It all depends on your requirement and how we handle it. But for best practises purposes it is always good to have a time dimension to implement time series functions and to create a dimensional hierarchy for drill down purposes

Bad performance due to the use of AGO and TO_DATE time series functions
Hi all,
I'm building an OBI EE Project on top of a 1TB DW, and i'm facing major performance problems due to the use of the AGO and TO_DATE time series functions in some of the Metrics included on the reports. I discovered that when a report with one of those metrics is submited to the DB, the resulting query/explain plan is just awful!... Apparently OBI EE is asking the DB to send everything it needs to do the calculations itself. The CPU cost goes to the roof!
I've tried new indexes, updated statistics, MV's, but the result remains the same, i.e., if you happen to use AGO or TO_DATE in the report you'll get lousy query time...
Please advise, if you have come across the same problem.

Combining the solution to view the data in dense form (http://gerardnico.com/wiki/dat/obiee/bi_server/design/obiee_densification_design_preservation_dimension), and the use of the lag function (http://gerardnico.com/wiki/dat/obiee/presentation_service/obiee_period_to_period_lag_lead_function) appears to be the best solution for us.

How to get Last Year Sales and YTD Sales without using AGO and TODATE?

I have got Company and Time dimensions and Sales Fact. My requirement is to get Last Year sales for each company without using AGO function and YTD without using TODATE function. (Due to performance issue as AGO and TODATE do not insert a Cache entry).

I have applied your solution but it does not seem to be working for the previous years like 2000, 2001. Hi,
I am using Windows 8.1
I have an External Hard Disk i have partitioned it to 4 parts.
One drive is now inaccessible due to sudden power failure while listening Music from that drive few days ago.
Now it shows "Data error (Cyclic redundancy check)".
I tried all the procedures provided here like
chkdsk /f, diskpart, rescan etc
but no result :( (i mean all processes failed. They could not detect the drive).
Please help me to get those data, pictures and project files.

My macbook pro no longer connects to my TV with the mini dvi to hdmi adapter. A while ago the computer fell down and hit the cable. How can I tell if the computer is working ok. Doesn't show mirroring any more. Was working while watching a movie but when I pulled it out from the computer and put it back in the system would no longer mirrorr the screen on the TV.

ok i have a advent roma laptop with window 7. my itunes used to work fine, completely. every time i plugged in my ipod it was ok. recently my ipod was not working so i never bothered with itunes, however i have movies/tv prog that i purchased and would like to view them. i have an ipod nano from about 5 years ago, the problem with thet is, it switches on, but the circular control panel does nothing, all you can do is lock and unlock it - nothing else.
i tried to download new version of itunes, then uninstalled my origonal version, incase it was corrupted etc, i then again tried to down load new version and also version that is windows 64bit. still when i select the downlaod to open as son as it is finnished nothing happens. and now my desktop shortcut has dissapeared. before when it was there, id double click it, nothing, right click to open it, nothing.

My computer went crazy yesterday on two occasions involving PDF documents. One dealt with attachments to an email from a bona fide corporation. The other dealt with IRS PDF forms & schedules needed for today's submission.
As both dealt with PDF and had nothing else in common, I suspected my PC had a virus. When I asked a local store technician, he agreed. I turned to Norton, which protects my PC from viruses, and after a few hours of really thorough searching, the computer was found to have no viruses.
Before describing what I call "crazy" computer behavior, you need to know that I have long had IE8 as my default browser but a few weeks ago switched to Mozilla Firefox because IE8 had beome incompatible with some websites from which I get information.
When I received the email from AT&T email service and clicked the first of four icons representing attachments, there was figuratively an explosion on my monitor: a series of new tabs, each called New Tab, burst onto the monitor--but no text or picture. The new tabs appeared faster than I coul kill them. I finally decided just to shut down the computer, hoping they would not reappear when I restarted. I was wrong. After 2 repeats, I decided to forget about the attachments and asked the sender to send them to me by regular mail.
That was no solution for my IRS PDFs. I wanted to complete filling in the various forms and schedules that I had begun months ago so that I could mail them today to the IRS (without having to copy them all in ink). When I tried to open the first one, BOOM. The same thing happened: the blizzard of New Tabs atop blank pages; my IRS form or schedule did not show up. Did the same shutdown/restart routine with the same results.
When I looked at the list of current forms that had to be completed, I noticed something very strange: the icons that began the listing of the documents' names were replaced one by one by Mozilla icons. When I moused over them, they said Firefox HTML. Why?
Starting the day today, I had the same experience. What's more, when I started to retrieve 2012 IRS PDFs from a year ago, the same New Tab tabs appeared and had to be killed, and Mozilla icons replaced whatever icon was there before.
Assuming that the problem arose with Adobe Reader's reading of the PDFs, I contacted Adobe but got no helpful phone number because PDFs are a free service and was directed to use this Forum to get help.
What do I have to do to (a) read and use PDFs in the normal way and (b) remove the Mozilla icon from those that have appeared on icon documents. If Mozilla is the source of the problem, shall I go back to IE8? (In my 80s, I want eventually to replace my old computer but for the time being I must continue using it. It will not take an IE9. Anther possible default browser would be Google Chrome, but I have unfavorable impressions of it because of its intrusiveness, loading my PC with stuff I do not need.
Can you help?The problem is absolutely not Reader. The problem is that FireFox has stepped in front of Reader and handles all the PDF stuff - wrongly in your case. FireFox is DESIGNED to take over PDF files. But it is not capable of doing IRS forms!
To start with go back to IE for these forms. When you save them to disk DO NOT DOUBLE CLICK ON THEM until this is fixed. Just open the in the normal way - start Adobe Reader and use Open from the File menu. -
I bought a brand new iPhone 4 as soon as it came out which was 2010 I think. No problems until two weeks ago. I fractured the screen on it so I am slowly losiong some functions like charge, touch screen ability and need to activate my new iPhone but I am having trouble with iTunes showing my full song library. I have 554 plus songs but some that will not update or download,. Two weeks ago is when this all began. I used to have a different apple ID but changed it after a few months for security reasons. Now when I try to observe my itunes library it only shows the most recent songs I have purchased,35. Not all, and there are still songs that it states it can not download because my computer is not authorized, I authorize it and it says it is already authorized. Then it gives me the old apple ID from years ago and I change it back to my new one, but this only causes it to do it over and over. I called apple and they said all kinds of mean things that my son or husband had been using my ID or account, of which is impossible because all purchases have to be password protected and I get warnings if anyone attempts to access. Also, their ID's are not my old one. Their libraries have none of my music. I do not home share but I thought that iTunes says you can use the music for households if you homeshare so I do not know why the person was so abusive but I am frustrated. So, any ideas? I was instructed to install icloud and did and it seems to me to be the culprit so I bought the stupid iCloud sharing manage,$25 yearly so that it automatically downloads your full library but no luck, still only shows the purchases I recently made with my gift card. This was suggested by the apple care expert. Can not update my phone until backed up, can not change phones until updated and backed up.
I know it sounds weird, and that is the reason I posted my question. Because my case is not like all the ones I've found online and it's confusing. I added a screen capture of my itunes with my old iphone (the one that houses my playlists) connected to it.
My playlists "ARE" in my iphone 4s. They are still there even though they do not show up when I plug in to itunes in my computer.
When connecting my phone to itunes on my macbook, the playlists do not appear anywhere in itunes. I have found my connected iphone icon, I have clicked on the arrow next to it and it does pull up the standard lists that come with the iphone/itunes: Music, Movies, TV shows, books. That's it! below that is "Genius" and below "Geniuns" is "PLAYLISTS" but the only playlist of mine that shows there is one that I created several years back titled "90's music" and that one I created it on my computer, not my phone. Under "90's music" there are also other standard playlists that itunes automatically adds.
Does anyone else have this issue or know how to get around this. I am starting to think that I am going to have to recreate these lists on my computer -

consider GameBrix.com, where you can create Flash based, casual
games using your web browser. No downloads are required. You can
create a game from scratch using a library of images, sounds and
game mechanics. You can also upload your own. The online script
editor will allow you to view and edit the ActionScripts associated
with each game mechanic. In short, a great way to ramp up on game
design and build your own game without investing a lot of $
upfront.

Windows 2007. Firefox is currently up-to-date. The problem is the most notable on https://evolve.elsevier.com/cs/Satellite/StudentMyHome?Audience=Student although I have noticed it on other sites. On this site, the position of some of the links on the screen makes it difficult to do my online course work.
This does not happen in Internet Explorer, or in Firefox when used on my school's computers, although I haven't been on them since Spring semester ended a few weeks ago.Does it help if you make the Find bar (Ctrl+F) or the Add-ons bar (Ctrl+/) (Firefox > Options or View > Toolbars) visible?

A movie I bought a while ago will no longer play, instead it just shows a black screen and no audio. All of the other movies in my library play fine. Any ideas as to whats going on or how to fix it? Thanks for any help.
