Aipref error because of work space / colour swatch library

hello,
I just started working with Illustrator CS4. I would like to get always the same GUI when I start it. So I found already work spaces, which works fine. But I also want to get the same color swatches (libraries), e.g. general RGB and general CMYK and two Pantone libraries. I put it all in my work space and choose "same position" (=Gleiche Position in German, sorry I don't know in in EN) in the context menu of the color swatch options.
I guess these two thing should normally get me in the position that I can open NEW and EXISTING files with always the same work space and swatches?
Problem: Each time I choose "same position" Illustrator starts with a error message "preferences file is damaged...(in German), is replaced by a new one". I already deleted the whole folder of the illustrator preferences in the AppData, backup my files, restored and so on. It is always when I make the mentioned thing I get the error.
>>> Can't I do this to get the work space and the swatches? How did you - CS4 users - do it? Is there any hint to get the aipref more "tolerant"?
Thank you
Peter

hello everybody,
I guess my question is too special and just concerning my special case. But at least I would like to know (see my first posting) if you can save the view (incl. swatches) at all in CS4 without error messages?

It looks like it is failing on the attempt to load the sample objects into the new workspace. Go to Manage Service / Feature Configuration and toggle Create demonstration objects... to OFF.
Try creating the workspace after that and see if it works. I don't know why the sample app install might fail but this should get you moving.

  • 500 Internal Server Error at HFM work space,Urgent;;;;;

    Hi,
Can any one give me solution for this.
When I try to open Work space it is giving the error "500 Internal Server Error"
And I am using Apache Tomcat.\
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi 807662 ,
    Hope this helps...
Can you post the errors from the BI+ error log?
You say that you can't log into the client applications? What client apps are you trying to log into?
If Planning can you post the the errors from Planning? If HFM can you post the errors from HFM?
Can you post the errors from the Event Viewer log on the server?
    -David
Web server returns the message "Internal Server Error (HTTP 500)"
    DETAILS:
This message usually indicates an error on the Web server. This message is too generic to provide the actual cause of the error, but a careful examination of the Web server logs, can provide clues which may point you in the right direction.
There are a few of things you can infer from an "Internal Server Error" message.
    1. The web server is NOT down, i.e it is responding to an HTTP request, since the error is being generated and returned by the web server. Unlike a "Page cannot be displayed" error which is a default message generated by a browser if it cannot contact the web server. The "Internal server error" message is caused by the web server actually returning an HTTP 500 code.
    2. If all users are getting this error, its might indicate a problem with the web server itself, perhaps a lack of system resource, a system-wide failure, or a configuration or installation issue. If only one user gets the error, its probably just tied to the session of the user, and even may be specific to the current activity
    3. The root cause is the web server, and not the application server or database, even though its possible that an application server or database response might trigger an error on the web server. For example, SQL returning a large result set might cause an OutOfMemory condition on the web server. If the application server errors out, the PIA servlet traps it and returns a generic message saying "An error has occurred on the application server", it does not return an HTTP 500 error.
The Internal Server Error message is generated by the web server, when the sub-process it called to process the browser's request, did not complete successfully. The sub-process may be a CGI program, ( Verity search in PeopleBooks for example), it may be another web server ( Apache proxying to WebLogic), or it may be a servlet (Weblogic HTTP handing off request to PIA). If the sub-process errors out, or returns an invalid error code, the web server will return an HTTP 500 error code to the browser.
The key therefore in troubleshooting HTTP 500 errors is to find out what sub-process was invoked, and what was the error encountered by the sub-process. Start by checking the access log on the web server. It will have the URL with the GET or POST request, and the return code. Here
Note though, that not all java exceptions translate to HTTP 500 errors, and not all HTTP 500 errors caused by servlets correspond to java errors. Sometimes a servlet may recover or ignore an exception and manage to return a valid response to the calling web server, mitigating an HTTP 500 code response to the browser.
Some of the common causes of servlet failures are:
    - Invalid web server configuration ( these errors should be consistently reproducible)
    - Errors from the Application Server that are not captured and translated into a meaningful message for the user.
    - Network I/O errors while communicating with Application Server, or to a proxy plugin.
    - Out of memory conditions on the web server.
    - Problems with the Java runtime.
    - System errors, like running out of disk space, insufficient permissions, running out of threads, etc.
    - Errors in the servlet code itself. Example: NullPointerException
    - Invalid or corrupted Session information, perhaps caused by Proxies, Load Balancers, Timeouts.
    - Incorrect web server, JRE, OS patches and or versions.
    G'Luck,
    David

  • HT4539 Apps isn't available Automatic Downloads on my iPads anymore. This is very frustrating because I work in a school library and have 30 iPads connected to a Macbook, and since this spring I've had to drag the new apps I've downloaded to each iPad.

I work in a school library and manage a cart of 30 iPads with 1 Macbook. Apps is not showing up under Automatic Downloads anymore, so I can't turn it on. Therefore, when I download apps requested by teachers, I have to drag the apps one by one to each of the 30 iPads. This is taking a lot of time that I don't have to spare. Is there a fix for this? Thank you.

Yes, Nathan. I have Automatic Download options for Music, Books, and Updates, but not for Apps. I turned on the Updates, but it didn't help. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

  • Errors because no free space on / ? [BTRFS]

    Hi,
Two weeks ago I reinstalled my pc from scratch. Systemd all the way. The pc doubles as a desktop pc and mediaserver, and everything worked as planned.
Yesterday I installed mkvtoolnix and used it to strip some audio channels from a .mkv. After that, I used packer (AUR installer) to install the faenza and faience icon set. The faenza icon set installed correctly, but the faience icon set did not install because the downloaded package could not be expanded.
    This could have two causes:
    1. There is no space left on the device.
    2. The device is mounted without write-privileges.
    I checked both:
    1. with 'df -h' -> I have at least 2GB free on every partitition (NOTE: there is my 'media'-partition that is listed as 100% used, but it has 6GB out of 996GB free...)
    2. with 'mount -a -o rw' -> /etc/mtab shows that all are mounted rw
This didn't help: pacman refused to install complaining it could not write any file inside the package
I rebooted to make sure it's not a problem with a temporary folder that had been flooded, and now gnome-session refuses to start. X starts, but Gnome/gdm gives me the sad faced computer that something has gone wrong. I can work in the console and checking both hypotheses results in the same conclusion: I have plenty space left and the (relevant) partitions are all mounted 'rw'.
    Help?
    /EDIT: more info:
    * My rootfs is btrfs and systemd warns me that there is no fsck.btrfs, but also that I can safely ignore that warning
    * gnome-session complains about I/O-errors when writing to /usr/share
    * My SSD is 1.5 years old and I have never had problems before.

Hi, it's because the metadata in btrfs takes up all of your 2GB.
Btrfs is claimed to be clever enough to allocate inodes dynamically but actually it's not the case.
    Try to run
    btrfs filesystem balance /
Btrfs is far from stable. Today I just encountered another strange problem of btrfs. I can't delete an empty directory even with
    rm -rf foo

  • Error message when working on one pre-recorded track

Hello!  I'm using GB 5.1, and have been encountering a frustrating problem:
I have one mp3 audio track (of a group discussion) imported from a digital recorder.  I've processed this kind of file many times, as a Real Instrument track. Mostly I've had no problem.  But with this track, after some editing, when I advance the playhead to a different place in the track, a loud click happens and the following text appears in a window:
Part of the project was not played.
This project has too many real instrument tracks to be played in real-time.
To optimize performance, see the 'Optimizing GarageBand performance' page in GarageBand Help.
Moving the playhead to different places in the track brings the click and the same error message, except that sometimes the track will begin playing, only to have this repeat again. When I quit the project, delete it, import the raw mp3 again, and begin editing, sometimes it works, but sometimes, like now, the same problem occurs after just a few edits.
I don't understand the "too many real instrument tracks" error, because I'm using only one.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

The error message may be misleading. You may see this warning, when your Mac is running out of RAM. For example, when you have too many open applications that are RAM hogs, like Safari, iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, iTunes. Or when one of the applications you are running has a memory leak. Do you see any error messages in the Console window?
I'd recommend to reboot your Mac, before starting to work on your project - that will free any memory, that other applications may have been leaking;  also close any application that you do not really need, while working on a music project.
How much RAM do you have, btw.? And how full is your harddrive? If this is running out of space, you may see similar warnings.
    Regards
    Léonie

  • Working space settings for Grayscale?

(Preliminary remark: I'm using the German version of PS, so some items may be called differently in the English version.)
In the colour settings of PS CS4 I can define a working space for gray scale pictures. What does this setting actually do?
I know that there is no ICC colour management for grayscale pictures, so what do the dot gain settings do? Do they just darken the display or is there more? What do the gamma settings do? What does "Black&White mean? What does sGray mean? Does Photoshop somehow add ICC profiles to grayscale pictures? If yes, which and what does it do?
So far I decided to just set "no adjustment". The reasoning is that this should display the true greyscale values on the screen. I then can add dot gain as needed manually as a final step. Does this make sense or am I misunderstanding something?
Bonus question: What about the spot colour settings? Are they applied to multichannel pictures?

    p_d_f wrote:
Yes, there really are Grayscale ICC profiles...
Thank you. After contemplating a bit, I think I've finally understood where my confusion originated. But the more I understand, the more new questions arise.
So far I've understood that if a picture is to be displayed on an internet site or used in an office application, then I best work with the gamma 2.2 profile. If the target computer honours ICC profiles, then it desn't matter anyway which profile I use, but if the target computer ignores ICC profiles, then most computers out there will display the picture with a gamma of 2.2 (more or less) because this tends to be the default setting on most computers.
But when it comes to pictures for print, some questions remain.
To begin with, I could continue to work as I did without colour management. I would first "convert" the picture to the profile "no corrections". This would mean that "the numbers" in the picture are the same as the gray values the final user should see. And then I would account for dot gain by either applying a gradation curve or by saving as EPS with a transfer curve.
However if I want to use colour management, then I "convert" the picture to the the printer's ICC profile. Without a specialized program, I cannot create such a profile myself, even if I know the transfer curve. So either I find a suitable profile somewhere or the print shop must provide me that profile.
So far I think I understand. But now the questions.
Concerning missing profiles: Can I just take the gray channel of a suitable CMYK profile (e.g. ISO Coated v2) or would this contain some sort of black generation information which would spoil a grayscale picture?
I assume that it's possible to embed the black and white point into the profile, so that I don't have to worry about them anymore but can assign the full range of gray values from 0% to 100%. With the colour sync tool, I looked into the grayscale profiles that come with Photoshop, and as far as I can tell, none of them does set the black and white point. So I assume that despite using colour management, I have to do this by hand in the picture itself by assigning appropriate grayscale values?
If I find a profile which does set the black and white point, then I assume that this is done lossless when I set the intent to "photographic", but when I set the intent to "colorimetrc", then the shadows and lights are just clipped (which jeopardizes the idea)?
I see that the profiles contain a intent. I assume that this embedded intent will be overridden by the colour setting in photoshop?
What does the option "blackpoint compensation" (or similiar, I use the German photoshop) do with grayscale images? Does it alter the black point, so I should turn the potion off off when I set it by hand? Is there some documentation what this option *exactly* does?
The colour settings in Photoshop offers "dot gain xx%" settings, but I didn't find such profiles. Do I assume correctly that those are "internal" profiles of photohop? Are they documented somewhere?
    Thanks.

  • After Effects error: Unable to allocate space for image buffer

I am having some glitchy issues with After Effects, very inconsistent, but I am getting the error message "After Effects error: unable to Allocate Space for a 7500 x 4500 image buffer. You may be experiencing fragmentation. In the Memory and Multiprocessing Preference dialog box, trying increasing the RAM to leave for other applications, and selecting the Enable Disk Cache option in the Media & Disk Cache Panel".
Pretty straightforward, but I have a brand new 8 core dual 2.25 Mac Pro with 16GB Ram. I have it set to allow other applications to use 7GB, have jockeyed that setting between 1GB and 5GB and still gotten the same error message. Disk Cache is set to 3GB, have pushed it all the up to 7GB and still gotten the same message. I am working in 1080p, but I got the error message with Open GL on, quarter resolution, and wasn't even trying to RAM preview. I also noticed that with a straight 1080p clip .mov animation codec clip, after effects will only RAM preview about 7 seconds. That is without any other layers or effects.  I do not have all of my source footage in one folder, I am going to try that next. I am running of a fast internal hard drive that is not they system drive.  It also seems like it happens after I have been using the comptuer for awhile. If I restart the problem will usually go away for a little while.
I think that I may have a bigger system error, the computer locked up bad once after I had it for a few weeks and since that happened CS4 has been unstable in general, especially Photoshop and Bridge. My guess is bad RAM, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something with my AE settings.  If any one has any input please let me know. Thanks.

    > I lowered the minimum RAM per core to 1GB, because the Adobe site recommends that as a base setting for andHD project
When you say "the Adobe site recommends", what exactly are you referring to? If you're quoting recommendations written for After Effects on the Adobe website, you're very likely quoting me. And this is what I wrote in the Help document:
    "Memory & Multiprocessing preferences":
"The amount of RAM required for each background process varies depending on your system configuration; at least 1 GB per process is recommended. Optimum performance is achieved with computer systems with at least 2 GB of installed RAM per processor core."
This blog post gives essentially the same advice, but with more explicit suggestions.
But, as I say at the bottom of that blog post, if you find that some other settings are working better for you, that's great. Every project and computer system are different. Do what works for you.
    > Also, if it is an
dual quad core system, there should be 8 cores, but in the
multi-processer preferences panel it lists CPU's as 16.
The number of "virtual" processors can be double in a system that uses hyperthreading. After Effects doesn't actually treat these as separate processors in this context, though.

  • Confused by embedded color profile vs. working space

If you know that the destination of a photo is ultimately going to need the sRGB color profile (uploading book to blurb), and you are going from Lightroom to Photoshop ("edit in Photoshop CS5") do you "Convert document's colors to working space" of sRGB?
This is what I have been doing, but when the photo is saved (in Photoshop) and then I view it in Lightroom, the photo looks completely different & gives me Exposure warnings.
Is this because Lightroom is showing me the photo with the color profile of Pro Photo RGB?
If yes, do I leave the photo alone, knowing that it should print correctly by Blurb &/or view correctly on a website?
Thanks for any help you can give me!
    Laura

The "working space" is the colour space a program uses internally.  Lightroom always uses Pro Photo RGB, there's no choice.  With Photoshop you can choose Working Space:
I'd recommend ProPhoto, if only because that's what LR uses, so it avoids any change of working space.  I would also choose "Preserve..." in the options below, and check all the "Ask When..." options (so it warns you when something funny happens).
If you save in Photoshop, and then re-import into LR, and it looks different, then some colour space mismatch might have happened.  The problem is likely to be in Photoshop (as there aren't any options in LR you can get wrong!)  Make sure the Photoshop "Color Management Policies" are as I've got them above.  It shouldn't matter what colour space the image is in when you import back into LR, so long as there's an embedded profile.  The embedded profile merely indicates in what colour space the image is.  LR takes note of the profile, and when you work on the image in Develop Module, it converts internally to ProPhoto RGB (but LR never alters files except metadata - if you import an sRGB jpeg then it stays sRGB - LR converts to ProPhoto RGB only for internal use).
When you save the image in Photoshop, if you want it in sRGB:
either use Save for Web... (and make sure "Convert to sRGB" and "Embed profile" are checked)
or use Edit... Convert to Profile (not Assign Profile) and then save.
    Does that help?

  • CS2 Version Cue: lost work space. (???)

Safari was crashing and error was wrong flash player plug in. SO...
I reinstalled flash player, then doing some things with the software apps and did a hard disk test, I did 'something' wrong. My computer crashed and when I restarted it, I had a totally different screen configuration. It was like starting from scratch. Lost a lot of stuff.
Safari browser bookmarks and bookmarks bar was gone, all folders in Mac Mail gone, even messages. It's like everything was wiped clean. I do have the information on my hard drive and trying to restore things, BUT... Now...
Safari crashes and gives me error message about needing Version Cue CS2 work space to run. I don't know what this means.
I must have thrown something out that had the work space with it? I was being so careful what unneeded excess stuff I tossed.
Went to Version Cue console.log this morning and this is what it says:

I can't reinstall just Version Cue, but I can uninstall it.
From what I understand, and that's not much being I'm not computer literate, CS2 needs Version Cue? Even though I had it turned off? (me thinks)
Can I uninstall Version Cue and still use all my other software?
I've had CS3 on my bookshelf for years. Never installed it because I wasn't sure how without messing other things up. Not sure what I would need to back up, etc.
Does CS3 have Version Cue? Would uninstalling CS2 and installing CS3 fix things?
My Processor is PowerPC, not Intel.
I am so frustrated and don't know what to do. Can anyone help me out here as to what I can do to make Safari happy?
    Thanks!
    PJ

    No bites yet. Okay.
    Simply put...
Can the rest of CS2 and Safari run without Version Cue if I uninstall it? Yes or No.
Does CS3 have Version Cue? Yes or No.

  • "error: out of disk space message" while creating 20gig QT file

Got an "error: out of disk space message" while exporting a 94min hdv project to the quicktime conversion (format:QT mvie, use mose recent settings / Options-dv/dvcpro -ntsc, size-dimensions compressor native) I also tried using compressor to creat a QT movie and got same error message. It gives me an estimate of 4-6 hrs, runs and at the end of 4hrs it gives me the error message. It is a large project, transitions filters 4+vid tracks 9 audio tracks, but Im using a dual4core, 4 gigs of ram.
Is this a ram or hard drive problem. I asume its the disk but cant imagine Im running out of space. I am sending it to an external hard drive with over 80gigs of free space. This makes no sense, please help.
Any help would be great since We have our sound mixer waiting for this as a video reference. This has been over a years worth of work and our sound mixing is the last thing to do. Please help us over the hump and I'll thank you on our website, www thelaughingplanet com, maybe the movie credits and maybe even send you a copy of the movie. Thanks, Marc

The 20 gig qt file was what the mixer asked for. I guess he wants it instead of a dvd because it can be inserted to his pro tools. He asked for the 16:9 size dv/dvcpro ntsc format. He may be wrong and a half frame size would work. he did say he wanted the precision info provided by the QT file. Will the half frame give him the same frame and precision movie info of the 20 gig file with only a lower quality display image?
The problem with dropping everything into a dv seq is that we have many sections that have multiple layers of video with movement and size changes. What is the problem with making a 16:9 QT file?

  • 180 GB of my 639-GB Macintosh hard drive is used. 320 GB of my 498-GB Tie Capsule is used. Only one backup ("now") exists for the Time Capsule, which can no longer backup because of "insufficient space". How come? What is wrong?"

Thank you William for your most helpful response. I shall deal first with your three comments:
Not being tech savvy, I would not have been able to make that call myself but it sure makes sense.
I have updated my profiles as you suggest.  Excellent tip.
This guidance is good.  Being new to Apple Support Communities, I did not find the field a labeling and guidance to be clear, a point you make.  Now I know, I shall do as you say and will use the small slim box as a header to the full message/question, which will place in the larger box below.
Secondly, I come to your question: Did anything change on your Mac recently, such as replacing the disk or main logic board?
The answer is “yes”.  Two events have happened both of which concerned the Time Capsule:
The telephone company, with which I have access to the Internet and I have my email account, installed a new modum.  After the technician left I had to try and get the Time Capsule and WiFi working again which ended with my having to call Apple for technical assistance.  The Apple technician walked me through a number of procedural steps which effectively re-set up the Time Capsule.
Access to the Internet failed and the telephone company reset the modum.  I had to call Apple again.  This time the technician did not reset the Time Capsule but walked me through a number of steps tha included renaming the “site”  (not the Time Capsule).
Another piece of information that may be relevant is that the MacBook Pro uses the Time Capsule for backup.  Everything appears to be in order.  When I enter the Time Capsule for this laptop I have backups going back for a long time.
Also, I do a weekly backup of the two computers onto another external hard drive using the Time Machine software.  So I have another backup of both computers.
