Air deflector sensor issue

I've got an issue where the powermac thinks that there is no deflector installed (red LED on, racing fans), and so far the flashlight test has yet to work, along with shoving a broken DVD fragment into the hole (both sides were shiny). Any way to reseat/take a look at the sensor? so far the only thing I can see is to pretty much completely take apart the whole machine.

Hi. There is some discussion of the sensor and tape here
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5101876#5101876
Note the use of the compressed air. Sometimes you have to move the torch/flashlight around - and angle it towards the outer edge of the slot where the sensor is located to get it to trigger.
Unfortunately, you do have to pretty much completely take apart the whole machine to get at the sensor - page 58 here.
But it might just be dust on the lens.
Please post again if you need more info. Good Luck.

  • Air Inlet sensor problem

I am beginning to wonder if my problem is linked to others on the forum relating to unexpected fan noise. After my G5 has been to sleep, Temperature Monitor shows no reading for the Main Logic Board Air Inlet Sensor. Could this be a reason for the fans kicking in? After rebooting, the sensor displays normally and the fans run at their normal speed. I have read elsewhere that this has been a problem for G5s since 2005 – the only workaround seems to be to not sleep the Mac. Hardly an energy-efficient solution for such a supposedly green company. Does anyone know of a better solution?

Convince yourself what you may, but many people with G5s have absolutely no problem whatsoever. This is a hospital ward. You'd hardly expect healthy people to come into a hospital and rant about how healthy they are. That would just be insensitive. Lemons do occur. If you are convinced about it being some unfixed OS issue, you'll never get to a solution. Preconceptions cloud ideas and prevent troubleshooting from taking place.
Apple has not made all its sensor readings available to the general public. We can't say why, since no one knows. If the developer has complained and received no response one could just as easily guess it is due to Apple's desiring to prevent people from overheating their machines unnecessarily by turning off the fans at the wrong time, as making equipment get out of sync if they are run when they aren't supposed to. Regardless of the actual reason why, if you are seeing some behavior that appears to be hardware related, run the hardware test that came with your machine. If it detects nothing, and no third party cards are installed, and no third party peripherals are there, and the system still misbehaves with no third party software, I'd guess possibly it is some item the consumer available hardware test is not able to detect. The most common is RAM. RAM can go bad at anytime, and create issues for the machine. The next most common would be some sensor that only an authorized technician knows how to detect if it has gone wrong.

  • DC In Proximity Air Flow - sensor is red in iStat

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro Retina that is almost two years old.  Have 768GB SSD and 16GB.
I run iStat and look at it every once in a while (it is a very good tool for those that do not know).  I have noticed the "DC In Proximity Air Flow" stat is red and fluctuates between 117 and 119, but it stays red.  I manually set fan speed to to high see if I could lower it and was able to get it to 116 and it turned black.   As soon as I let the MacBook go back to normal operation, it jumped back to 117 and is red again.
What is the "DC In Proximity Air Flow" sensor and how can I make sure the airway is clean?  I was thinking about opening up the back and cleaning out what I can, but I would prefer not to open her up.
Please let me know what you think, where it is, and what it does!
    Thanks!
    -Kirk

Same exact issue here - iStat 5 (latest version), DC In Proximity Air Flow 118F (48C). Showing red. I don't know if this has been going on for a while, or if it's associated with the iStat upgrade I just bought, or the update I just downloaded today. It's the first time I've ever seen red in the sensors section.

Go step by step and test.
    1. Power off the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait a while.
Plug it back to the wall. Power the router on. Wait until all the lights are lit properly. It will take a while.

  • PM G5 Quad - no air deflector no fan speedup

The search did not get me too far in this, so I started a new topic:
When I remove the air deflector from my running PM Quad (late 2005) the fans' speed remains unchanged; red, yellow and green LEDs are on.
Shouldn't removing the air deflector make all of the fans run on max RPM? Is something wrong with my Quad?
    Oliver
PPC mini, PM Quad 4,5 GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Same here. I only left if uncovered for a few minutes, didn't notice any speed change.
Since the computer works correctly, and fan speed does change in response to CPU temperature, I'm not concerned.

  • U330 Diagnostics Program and Keyboard Sensor Issues

I'm sorry if this has been posted before but I've been searching for awhile now and can't find it.
I was wondering if there was any type of diagnostics program for the U330 to test my cpu, fans and the general hardware.
Also i was wondering if anyone else with the U330 notices any keyboard sensor issues. Such as, I have to press firmly in the middle of the keys for it to register. Or I have to press firmly on the "T" or "Y" button for it to register the click. It's  very bothersome and I was wondering if anyone else with a U330 has a similar issue?
Message Edited by droptopmetro on 05-15-2009 01:01 AM

What do you mean by testing cpu/fan/ram? You can test cpu by OCCT or S&M and you can test RAM by memtest86+
Regarding keyboard - you should have it replaced, it's a common faoult in some ideapads.

  • Those Who Got 'Reset All Settings' to Fix the Proximity Sensor Issue...

I thought I would start a thread dedicated only to the steps that people took to get their proximity sensor issues resolved. So far, there are only scant posts lost deep in huge threads.
For example, did you do a hard or soft reboot after you reset all of the settings? Did you make calls right away? Did you change all of your settings back first before making a call? Did you only change some settings before a call and then others after? Did you set up your visual voicemail right away? The reason why I am asking is perhaps there is a problem with a particular setting that we can narrow it down to...or maybe a certain combo of settings since resetting just the network settings seemed to work for some and not for others.
Also, if it worked, was it only a temporary fix?
Please post constructively. I have been following the threads for days, and I am well aware that this may be a hardware issue.

On my fifth phone and am currently working with an apple engineer to help investigate the issue. The best thing I've done to help temporarily is to reset all settings. That seems to hold for 24 hours or so but the issue always returns.
Hope you get something to work, but I'm fairly certain apple won't be able to do a firmware update to fix this or they would of already done so or at least mentioned it.
Thanks! That's what I was beginning to think as well...and it's also what I was most afraid of...

  • Proximity Sensor Issue, But It's Not The Proximity Sensor...

So, has anyone had issues with apps that use the proximity sensor (like this one, for example: http://appshopper.com/utilities/touch-lcd-designer-speaking-clock)?
I noticed, the bright light of the sun seems to be messing it up, and was wondering if anyone else was having proximity sensor issues, without it actually being the proximity sensor (where it seems to think something is in front of it, when it is not).
When you watch the videos, please put your volume on mute, as there are outside, natural sounds and white noise, that will make you go deaf, if you have the volume on loud. The first video needs the sound on, but low.

its not that noone cares its that anything related to the proximity sensor has been beaten to death and frankly there is issues with it that may or may not be software related could be hardware related apple said they fixed it and they didnt fix it

Hi BlackBerry community,I had a weird sensors issue from the official 10.2 update. and I'm sure that it's a software issue since it works sometime but not every time. I can not leave 10.3 because I can't live without timer in camera and panaroma and good android runtime...... any help?

It will be more helpful if you would please post ALL details:

  • Otterbox Defender Case causing Proximity Sensor issues

I think the otter box defender case offers the best protection for my Iphone4 but I also think it is causing my proximity sensor issue. I cant make a call without the screen becoming active. I have surgically removed the built-in screen protector (and the associated glue) but I think I need to remove the small plastic pieces that cover the front facing camera and the sensor. Or I will try another case that doesn't cover the sensor. Has anyone else noticed this issue with the Otterbox case?

I notice this issue using the case however I didnt notice it until 4.1 and I removed all plastic on the front facing camera and the plastic over the proximity sensor I also removed the plastic covering the screen didn't fix the problem at all

  • 70d is producing shots with prominent white streaks! Cleaned everything. Sensor issue!? Thoughts?

My 70d suddenly started taking shots with a PROMINENT white streak! The smaller the aperture the more prominent it is...this led me to believe it may be a dust issue ( although I have never seen dust accumulate this way) so I thoroughly cleaned everything. It didn't seem to help. Any thoughts? It seems as though it might be a sensor issue...which I would hate to replace!

  • Continued Proximity Sensor Issue After 4.1 Upgrade

I was told by Apple Care and the Genius Bar that the proximity sensor issue was going to be resolved with the new 4.1 update. "This was after I exchanged the new IPhone 4 two times prior to the update. When the update arrived, it stated the items that would be resolved with the update which included the proximity sensor software fix. This update did not fix the issue and I exchanged my IPhone 4 for the third time with the same issue but slightly worse. Same issue exists with my cheek placing calls on hold, pressing numbers or even worst, placing them on speaker while having a private conversation. I have restored this phone and re-did everything from scratch and yet have the same issue. Is any one else having the same problems that I am facing, or have I just got four bad phones in a row? HELP.

Since I know for fact, it's possible to have a phone without PS issues, I would go to the Apple store, and get a replacement, but I wouldn't leave the store until you're sure the new phone doesn't have the same PS problems. Maybe the Apple Gods were smiling on me, but both my phones were bought on launch day and neither have suffered. 4.1 didn't have a negative effect. And I know people who did have the problem, which 4.1 resolved. You should have a phone that works too.......

  • Has 4.1 fixed the Proximity Sensor issue for you?

At work, can't download 4.1 yet, but I'm eager to see if the Proximity Sensor issue will be fixed. This is my last straw, if 4.1 doesn't do it, I'm afraid I can't wait any longer. I need a phone..

For those who are slow on the uptake what is the issue with the proximity sensor? I have noticed no issues with mine.
We have three iP4s in our family and none are experiencing the Prox issue, but for those that do it is extremely frustrating. Proximity sensor system seems to fail and activate the keyboard at odd times allowing your face/ear to randomly press 'buttons' resulting in all sorts of weird behavior.
Got it. Mine is fine so I guess I should be grateful. Apart from the signal issues my phone works perfectly. I hope this update doesn't screw my phone up.

  • OSX-software for USB Air Quality Sensor ?

I'm trying to find MacOSX-compatible software to read the data-output of the iAQ 77-0900 Indoor Air Quality Monitor USB-stick by AppliedSensor.
    http://www.appliedsensor.com/products/indoor-air-monitor.html
This product is sold under variuos names and brands, e.g. :
    Volcraft CO-20 USB
    MSR CO2 Air Guard USB
    Butterfly Indoor Air Monitor USB
    Dwyer AQStick model ASQ-1
    eNasco Indoor Air monitor USB
    FRAKTA co2-Air Gard USB
    Sentinel-Haus Institut RaumluftWächter
...but they all have only one piece of compatible software : AirMonitor for Windows-PC
I've not been able to find compatible sotware for OSX, but a similar & compatible piece of software does exist for Linux :
    http://code.google.com/p/airsensor-linux-usb/wiki/About
Can anyone help me to read-out the data from the Air Quality Sensor USB-stick from an Intel-Mac ?
    Thanks !

    Hi Sebastiaan,
Thanks for your reply and your directions.
I am not a developer, and I do not like messing around in the Terminal.
So when I got an error-like warning when I entered the first sudo-command, I did not procede with your directions.
But... if you give me a link where I can download the app you've compiled, I'm willing to test it.
(I have xCode and XQuartz installed)
Furthermore... I did do some other things that might be of interest :
1- I found an MacOSX-compatible Java-app called "DataExplorer", that might do the trick, but I couldn't get it to run properly :
    http://www.nongnu.org/dataexplorer/#downloading
2- I managed stand-alone apps using both WineBottler and WineSkin ; they both run, but refuse to see the USB-stick when it's pluged-in...
3- I was also able to install the windows-app on WinOnX, but I get the same error there... the app runs, but it doesn't detect the USB-stick either...
    Thanks for your help !
