AIR-LAP1242G

Hi Everbody,
Cisco 8500 controller's (software 7.4.100.0) datasheet clearly states Cisco AIR-LAP1242G series access point can join cisco 8500 controller. I am using Cisco AIR-LAP1242G  software version (C1240-K9W8-M, 12.3(7)JA1, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)) and IOS (c1240-k9w8-mx.ap_jmr3_esc.201204191421/c1240-k9w8-mx.ap_). I tried both console and web interface but Ap did not connect the Cisco 8500 controller.
Is anyone have an idea about this problem
Regards

We are normally using AIR-LAP1242G series Ap with Wism controller. AIR-LAP1242G APs connect to Wism Controller using DHCP option 43 and its also capwap compatible.
"3) Do a capwap events enabled while the ap joins - do you see anything ? If so post" I do not understand this one
We are also using AIR-LAP1131AG-E-K9 with Wism controller. When I send AIR-LAP1131AG-E-K9 series Ap to 8500 controller, it connects and works fine. But when I send to AIR-LAP1242G series AP, it do not connect to 8500 controller.

  • AIR-LAP1242G-E-K9 do not work with AIR-CT5508-K9 while AIR-LAP1142N-E-K9 do

    Hello,
we do have a site where we need to deploy AIR-LAP1142N-E-K9 and AIR-LAP1242G-E-K9 APs. We have two AIR-CT5508-K9 controllers with SW version                  6.0.188.0.
AIR-LAP1142N-E-K9s work okay, as expected, we do not have any problems with them.
However AIR-LAP1242G-E-K9s do not, there is a problem with establishing CAPWAP tunnel with the controller. The AP is seen on the controller for a while, with 0 time up-time, cannot change any settings on the AP via controller, and after a while it disapears from the controller, apears again and this repeats.
The APs and controllers are connected to the LAN campus.
Controllers via two 1G links configured as Etherchannel to WS-C6506-E VSS switch with s72033-ipservicesk9_wan-vz.122-33.SXI1.bin on it.
APs to WS-C3750G-48PS with c3750-ipbasek9-mz.122-50.SE2.bin on it. 3750 is connected to the C6505 via two 1G links configured as Etherchannel.
Below I copied the log I captured on 1242 and the controller. Highlighted ones are the ones which I think might bring a clue.
    I performed some troubleshooting steps.
    - As we have some other controllers available over WAN, I  tested the 1242 AP  with 2100, 4400 and also with the same model AIR-CT5508-K9 with SW version                  6.0.188.0 over WAN and this worked always okay.
    - I wanted to be sure that I eliminate any kind of out of sequence packet issue, so I brought down all redundancy L2 links so that the L2 path from the AP to the controller was only through one leg links.
    - I also brought the second controller down to eliminate potential issue with having two of them up.
    - The AP gets its IP from DHCP configured on the C6506 switch, I am always able to ssh to AP, so the IP connectivity does not seem to be an issue.
    - I have more 1242s, all behave in the same way. I also connected them to some other 3750 switches we have in the campus, always the same.
    - As this seems to be maybe a kind of ssl issue, I tried to play with controller settings, like enabling Accept... options  under Security/AP Policy, but this did not help.
    - I also tried to reboot the controller, no improvement.
    - The APs came from the factory, so in the beginning everything was factory default in them. They were always able to download the image from the controller in the very initial phase. I still do have some of them untouched, so I can perform any troubleshooting steps with the fresh one.
I can reproduce this, can also send debugging logs if needed.
Any idea on what could be wrong is highly appreciated.
    Thank you.

Thanks for such quick response and suggestions.
Yes, I seem not to to be 100% perfect as for the list of troubleshooting steps I took.
I had already tried the two commands you mentioned. I tried again, this time with some other 1242, but these do not help.
Yes, I was already thinking that this could be in theory a licensing issue. The controller is bougth with 25 licenses.
In the beginnign I had one 1142 on it and tried to enable 1242s which did not work. Now I have five 1142s on it, as this worked okay, I guess it could not be a licensing issue.
I think that I can see in the log files that the machines communicate to each other, L2 or L3 paths seem to be working okay. I forgot to mention that I am using option 43 on the DHCP server, so the AP clearly finds its way to the controller. What's more both APs and the controllers are in the same VLAN, so they are in the same broadcast domain.
Below is sho ver from the AP. The AP seems to have Certificate type - manufacture installed, so I guess there should not be a problem with the certificate, especially knowing that the AP works with other controllers over WAN.
My guess these messages seen on AP especially "Invalid event 38 & state 3 combination" might tell us what's wrong.

  • Apply button not working when changing AP settings

    Hi Guys,
I am working on installing a new 2500 Controller with 2 AIR-LAP1242G's attached to it.  I have both registered and on the controller but I am having trouble moving one of them to a new IPS AP group that I created.  Furthermore, I noticed the default gateway is missing from the static ip settings and I am unable to add that as well.  When I add the default gateway and hit apply, the controller does nothing. Same thing for when I try to change my WIPS device to monitor mode.  Has anyone ever seen behaivor like this?
A couple other things that I noticed is that when I go to AP groups and try to remove the AP's from the default group, there is no remove button when you go inside the default group like  I see when i go into my IPS group.
The AP's are on software ver 12.4(23c)JA3 Boot ver 12.4.13.0
and the controller is at 7.0.22.0
I have already power cycled the controller and both AP's.  Is there anything else that anyone can think to look at here?

Grrr.....I tried everything but closing the browser out and opening a new session.  I logged out and back in without closing internet explorer completely but it turned out closing internet explorer solved this.

  • Duplicated IP error on some clients

    Hello,  Dear All.
We have typical deployment with WLC550x (7.0.116.0) and 16 APs (AIR-LAP1242G-E-K9) placed on same site. WLC connected to 3560 (with LAG , and dhcp relay)  , and all wireless clients( Motorolla MC3100 handled PC ) work with same WPA2-PSK SSID. All APs configured as HREAP group and SSID has local switching and auth settings. DHCP server for clients work on Windows 2008r2 failover cluster, APs give addresses from WLC builtin server.
Almost all works great.  But sometimes some clients go insane . After wake up,  they show duplicate IP error and wont connect to nework.  On DHCP server  this IP shown as leased to client mac(without any errors and so).
Client reboot wont resolve this issue.
After reboot client try another dhcp address (after marking dchp decline message) but also without luck, with same error and another IP.
All this looks like client side problem . But when i try debug arp on root switch 3560  i get following situation.
    After client wake-up
    *Apr 10 18:44:32.773: IP ARP: rcvd req src 10.116.51.59 0023.68cb.a8fc, dst 10.116.51.59 Vlan51
    *Apr 10 18:44:32.782: IP ARP: rcvd req src 10.116.51.59 0023.68cb.a812, dst 10.116.51.59 Vlan51
    After reboot
    *Apr 10 19:16:40.123: IP ARP: rcvd req src 10.116.51.24 0023.68cb.a8fc, dst 10.116.51.24 Vlan51
    *Apr 10 19:16:40.131: IP ARP: rcvd req src 10.116.51.24 0023.68c9.a29b, dst 10.116.51.24 Vlan51
    *Apr 10 19:16:40.459: IP ARP: rcvd req src 10.116.51.27 0023.68cb.a8fc, dst 10.116.51.27 Vlan51
    *Apr 10 19:16:40.467: IP ARP: rcvd req src 10.116.51.27 0023.68cb.a9b6, dst 10.116.51.27 Vlan51
Where  0023.68cb.a8fc problem clent mac and   0023.68cb.a812,
0023.68cb.a9b6, 0023.68c9.a29b    - another full working clients  MACs(with another ip address).
Looks like another client (or ??  ap or controller) send ARP reqest with same IP right after problem client. How this possible ?
    I'll be
    appreciate for any opinions
    and comments!

    Why you think so ?
Reboot of controller resolve problem for some time.
Clients work flawlessly when controller disconnected from network and APs in H-REAP mode. Also same clients (handles PC models) works  in online mode with wlc 4400 without problems.
There are two difference in this deployment:
    1. wlc 5500 and 7.0 major release
    2. APs in  H-REAP mode and WLAN configured as localy switched
From my point of view problem related with controller  incorrect  behavior(or I think so).
Process of obtaining  ip addresses interrupted by  controller   for some unclear  reasons.
1.Client obtain IP address from DHCP without problem(via dhcp relay on 3750)
    2. Client check that no one use it by sending  ARP request "ARP Who has address (leased from DHCP address here)"
    3. No response mean that address free.
    4. Controller interrupt process. By sending ARP resposne  "ARP  (leased from DHCP address here) used by (MAC of one of  client what used it in past)   "
    5. After this client show duplicated ip error.
    6. Controller log message
%APF-4-REGISTER_IPADD_ON_MSCB_FAILED:apf_foreignap.c:1504 Could not Register IP Add on MSCB. Identity theft alert for IP address. Address:00:23:68:cb:a9:87
I think this mean controller failed to update some internal table  with new ip-mac pair and prevent client work.
But how disable such controller behavior I dont know.
I disabled controller DHCP proxy , I disabled client ip learning in WLAN settings , I disabled any exclusion policies.

  • Cisco Wireless AP

    Hi
    I have a cisco wireless AP AIR-LAP1242G-E-K9
When I plug the network cable into the back this lights come on and change colour.
Does anyone know what the lights mean when they change colour?
    Thanks
    Regards

    Hi Jayesh,
Color change can be due to many reasons
Status LED indicates operating state, association status, error/warning condition, boot sequence, and maintenance status.
Ethernet LED indicates status of activity over the Ethernet.
Radio LED indicates status of activity over the radio.

  • Migrating from Cisco 4402 to 5508 - AP Compatibility

We currently run six 4402 Wireless lan controllers - these are managed by a WCS server - soon to be replaced by Cisco Prime.
We run a mixture of LAP1242 and LAP1142 wireless access points.
I need to add more but have been told by my supplier that the both these AP's are now end of sale and cannot be purchased.
The replacement AP's are the 2600 series - but I have been told that these are not compatible with my existing 4402 controllers.
To make matters worse I was then advised that if I purchase the new 5580 controllers the older LAP1242 access points will not work with it and require replacing - this, for me, is a lot of access points.
What I need to know is:
What access points, if any, are currently available that are compatible with my 4402 controllers and a future 5508 installation?
I ssem to be in a situation now where I cannot buy any access points that will work with my 4402's but if I upgrade all my current 1242's will not funtion with the new 5508 controller!
    Scott

  • WLC 5508 - AP 3602i & 1231's

    Hi all,
    I just got my "new toys" 2 x 5508 with 200 odd 3600 AP's.
I have setup all my SSID's and they work perfectly on code

    AIR-CT5500-K9-7-2-111-3
    AIR-CT5500-K9-7-3-101-0
Now when I tried adding a 1231 AP I keep getting the folloing message.

  • Cisco Aironet 1200 LAP Issues - LAP to Autonomous Mode

Greetings! After purchasing 4 of the Cisco Aironet 1200 G Series WAPs, I'm now running into a slight issue with them.
I received these last week with the understanding that if I didn't have the Cisco controller device, I could convert them from being the Lightweight Access Point, back to Autonomous mode with an IOS.
With this, I checked the documentation that came with the device and found the "Upgrading Autonomous Cisco Aironet Access Points to Lightweight Mode" or http://forum.cisco.com/eforum/servlet/NetProf?page=netprof&forum=Wireless%20-%20Mobility&topic=Getting%20Started%20with%20Wireless&needs_authentication=yes&CommCmd=MB%3Fcmd%3Dadd_discussion%26mode%3Dshow%26needs_authentication%3Dyes%26location%3D.ee7c7c3.
From there, I followed the instructions listed under Converting a Lightweight Access Point Back to Autonomous Mode. Before the rename of the file, I checked the device and found AIR-LAP1242G-A-K9 for the Model No.
One of the Cisco Certified admins here was able to obtain the latest build for the IOS for the device or c1240-k9w7-tar.123-8.JEB1.tar. Per the instructions, I renamed the file to coincide with the model of the device.
I followed the instructions from there, and it looked as if everything was going well. However, after the upgrade, I'm running into an issue with the following:
File "flash:/c1200-k9w7-mx.123-8.JEB1/c1200-k9w7-mx.123-8.JEB1" uncompressed and installed, entry point: 0x3000
    executing...
At this point, the device just locks up. All lights are lit green on the device. According do the documentation, it should reboot and from there, I should be able to access the web interface by IP.
I've tried to perform the upgrade again using the same IOS build, but the same thing happens with the lock up.
At this point, I'm assuming the issue is with the build of the IOS that I have and I may have to look at getting an older build. However, before doing so, I thought I would post something here to see if anyone had an idea.
I may have needed to refine my searching of the forums, but wasn't able to find anything in relation to my issue. If there is something out there, I do apologize for the post and will happily refer to any current information.
If you need any further information in relation to this, please let me know. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    Hi Jeffrey,
Reverting the Access Point Back to Autonomous Mode
Have a look at Step 3
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps430/prod_technical_reference09186a00804fc3dc.html#wp161272
You can convert an access point from lightweight mode back to autonomous mode by loading a Cisco IOS Release that supports autonomous mode (Cisco IOS release 12.3(7)JA or earlier). If the access point is associated to a controller, you can use the controller to load the Cisco IOS release. If the access point is not associated to a controller, you can load the Cisco IOS release using TFTP.
Using a TFTP Server to Return to a Previous Release
Follow these steps to revert from LWAPP mode to autonomous mode by loading a Cisco IOS release using a TFTP server:
Step 1 The static IP address of the PC on which your TFTP server software runs should be between 10.0.0.2 and 10.0.0.30.
Step 2 Make sure that the PC contains the access point image file (such as c1200-k9w7-tar.122-15.JA.tar for a 1200 series access point) in the TFTP server folder and that the TFTP server is activated.
Step 3 Rename the access point image file in the TFTP server folder to c1200-k9w7-tar.default for a 1200 series access point, c1130-k9w7-tar.default for an 1130 series access point, and c1240-k9w7-tar.default for a 1240 series access point.
Step 4 Connect the PC to the access point using a Category 5 (CAT5) Ethernet cable.
Step 5 Disconnect power from the access point.
Step 6 Press and hold MODE while you reconnect power to the access point.
Step 7 Hold the MODE button until the status LED turns red (approximately 20 to 30 seconds) and then release.
Step 8 Wait until the access point reboots, as indicated by all LEDs turning green followed by the Status LED blinking green.
Step 9 After the access point reboots, reconfigure it using the GUI or the CLI.
    From this doc;
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps430/prod_technical_reference09186a00804fc3dc.html#wp161272
    Hope this helps!

  • WLAN Detail Measurement and logging

    Hello,
at an event with +150 WLAN clients should I create a report for WLAN usage over the event time..Network environment:
    - WLC 5508 (7.2), AIR LAP1242G, access switches: 2960SCriteria for the report:
    - How many wireless clients were generally in time connected / associated?
    - How long each client was connected or active?
    - What has caused traffic each client and all?
    - When was which client on which AP is associated?
    - How many clients were on the individual APs in each account?Dignity for Netflow (Prime as Collector) sufficient or do I need more? With which board means and how I can for example also in the controller LOG to see when which client was associated with which AP (to find no setting)? What tools can I help it still inserting. Ideas?
I already thank you for your feedback and professional helpBest regards

  • Access points connect to wrong WLC

    Hello everybody,
I have a problem with some access point.
We have two WLC's one AIR-CT5508-K9 and one AIR-WLC4404-100-K9.
now i have 6 access points that don't register anymore to the right controller.
in high availability i have set the right name of primary controller and also the correct ip address, but somehow they keep registering to the other controller.
Does someone know how i can fix this problem.
    info:
    AIR-CT5508:SEDA-PM_Line_1
    WLC4404: SEDA-PM_Office_1
6 accesspoints are connected to SEDA-PM_Line_1 but they should be connected to SEDA-PM_Office_1
settings in AP are correct in my opinion

i am having macbook air recently my iphotos did not open and was showing report apple and reopen but i came to know that by pressing alt and iphotos i open an new photo library and stored the pics but now how can i get the pics which i had in the earlier photo please help me to recover my photos

    Well I'll guess you're using iPhoto 11:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
