Air Port in my Imac and Airport Express with my 360

Hi all,
Not sure if Im being nieve but I am trying to set up a network between my Imac and an airport express, with the ulitmate goal of connecting my Xbox 360 to that network. My imac has an airport card and Ihave tried doing the WDS setup any help that any one can offer would be great.
Thanks

G'day Duane,
Just clarifying things here, is it still possible to connect a 360 (via MS' networking adaptor) to a wireless network created by an iMac's built-in airport? Currently I'm using a network encrypted by a WEP password which works all fine and dandy with my MacBook. On the 360, it recognises the network, allows me to enter the password and connects, only to tell me when testing the XBL connection that the wireless network is not connected. The same problem happened when I took off the security. Is there a way around this apart from connecting an ethernet cable to my MacBook/directly into the router?
Cheers in advance,
-Tom

  • IMac and Airport Express

I just purchased Airport Express and now my IMac is WI Fi. I've noticed that it comes on even though I have not tried to wake it up. Does this mean I need to turn the machine completely off when I'm done? I prefer to leave it in a sleep mode since I'm on and off my Mac most of the time.  I also have an IPad 2 and Apple TV on this network. Any feed back would be appreciated.  Thank you....

I'd start with unchecking the option,  System Preferences > Energy Saver > "Wake for network access".
See if that works and go from there.

  • Wps HP printer to air port extreme for imac and mac air

Just purchased a HP C310c p/c/s/p/web . it has wps protection. air port extreme has wpa. how do i proceed?

The AirPorts do not directly support WPS. Instead, you would need to configure your HP printer for either a WPA or WPA2 protected network depending on how you have already setup wireless security on your AirPort Extreme. You should be able to find a setting via the printer's control panel to allow you do so.

  • IPhone 4 802.11n and Airport Express with Time Capsule

I have a Time Capsule as my main wireless router, extended by an Airport Express (both are latest versions of the hardware and software). The Time Capsule is a dual-band version (2.4 and 5 GHz).
My new iPhone 4, which is supposed to be 802.11n 2.4 GHz compatible (unlike the iPhone 3Gx models) connects to the Time Capsule, but not to the Airport Express - hence no cover in certain parts of the home. There are no options for frequency when you extend a network - it's mostly plug and play from the main wireless router (the Time Capsule). What to do?

    Welcome to the discussions!
    +What to do?+
The iPhone does tend to remember the router that it is originally connected to.
If you plan to use the iPhone most of the time when you are in proximity of the AirPort Express, I suggest that you delete the current WiFi connection on the iPhone, restart the device, locate it near the AirPort Express, and set up a new connection to your network.
Works for me. May or may not work for you.

  • IP Address Conflicts - iMac and Airport Express, Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion

In our home we have an iMac, two Mac notebooks, an iPad, an Apple TV and a Sony Playstation that all use wi-fi.  I have a recurring problem.  When several devices are connected to the Internet through Airport Extreme (wi-fi) downloads really slow down.  Since the Airport Extreme is connected directly to a Motorola cable modem that also has wi-fi, I often shift my iMac wi-fi connection to the Motorola cable modem to speed up the Internet. Lately I have been getting an IP address conflict message in a pop-up box when I shift to the cable modem wi-fi. The system preference shows the IP address automatically assigned via DCHP.  It also offers the option of DHCP plus manual.
I am now using Snow Leopard and intend to upgrade to Mountain Lion.
How can I resolve the conflict?  Or, should I consider some other wifi network configuration?  Is the upgrade to Mountain Lion likely to resolve the problem or make it worse?  Can I use the DHCP plus manual to manually assign an IP address to the iMac to resolve the IP address conflict, and, if so, what it the procedure?

Is the DHCP assignment being done by your cable modem or your AirPort Extreme?
What is the exact text of the conlict message, and where does it pop up?
If your cable modem and your AirPort Extreme are both running DHCP servers for the same subnet (which they really should not be allowed to do), they must be set to assign addresses from disjoint pools.

  • Printer not working with Leopard and Airport Express

    Hello!
I have seen that this is a common problem but I've tried several solutions that seemed to work for others but still not for me.
I have a Macbook Pro unibody and airport express with OS X 10.5.6. I used a Samsung CLP-300 wirelessly though my airport express (with Tiger on my older macbook). The printer works fine when it is plugged into my USB on the Macbook but not on the airport.
Here is what I've tried in the past 8 months:
    - update the Samsung printer driver
    - used "fixairport"
    - configured HP IP with airport local address
    - spent 2 hours on the phone with apple
None of this seemed to work. The printer will print the first page and then any subsequent pages it gives me an error host message.
If anyone can give me an idea of what did work for them in this situation, or maybe I'm doing something wrong, please let me know. It would be greatly appreciated.

kelscan, Welcome to the discussion area!
You need to reconfigure your AirPort Express (AX) so that it joins the wireless network provided by the "modem". Follow the directions in KB 302153, AirPort Express: How to join an existing wireless network in client mode.

  • The air port on my imac went off and i can not get it to work

my air port on the imac weny off and i can not get it to work now

Apple used to use airport name for everything.. is this the internal wireless card?? Or external airport router?
If it is the internal wireless card, is it still listed in system profile.. and do a hardware test with your original CD.
    See http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509
The problems with Mavericks are very great.. if you upgrade installed anything can happen.. a common feature is the internal wireless card fails to work.
Give details and we can figure it out.
Here is discussion about the same thing as I think has happened to your imac in macbook.

  • AirPort Express with Air Tunes and wired router

Do any of you using AirPort Express with Air Tunes as a base station have it connected to a wired router, just as an added precaution?
    thanks,
    --h

As far as I know, AirPort Express w/tunes has a firewall, but a given router may offer more protection options than just a firewall. I'm wondering about security on the wired side of the connection, not the wireless side.

  • Connecting wireless modem and airport express

I currently run internet with an old Motoirola Sideboard cable modem and Airport Express - previous version. All runs well. Now my Optus provider has upgraded my service with a Premium account for higher speed. They have also given me a free wi fi Cisco modem - DPQ3925. How can I replace my old Motorola modem and still maintain Air play etc with my new modem using Airport Express. I need to know exactly wire per wire help - please, if possible - Thanks

    Hi - I have a similar issue.
I have a new macbook pro, ATV (3rd Gen) and AXn (purely for Airplay of itunes).
All three are wirelessly connected to my HG556a Huawei WiFi Router.
The Macbook pro and ATV work fine and can see each other for airplay mirroring and itunes.
The AX connects and comes up in Airport Utility (AU) and itunes shortly after you turn it on, but if you either dont use it or stop using it and switch to ATV or whatever it dissapears from itunes and AU says it cant find it. Randomly the light on the AX stays green the whole time.
I have to switch the AX off and on to get it back working again (i.e. itunes and AU can see it).
Following other forum posts I've set the AX up by hard connecting it to my router, setting a static iP and reserving ports 5353 and 3689 to that address. I've also turned off ipv6 or whatever using the networksettings Terminal code string. I have also repaired permissions with disk utility!
It still dissapears from available options in iTunes and AU. ideas?

  • Imac-ethernet-airport express-2wire gateway

I bought an imac g4, 17" 1.25GHz. I am trying to connect to a ATT DSL 2Wire gateway. The iMac's wireless was via a hawking usb adaptor. That worked clunky, and when I tried to update the drivers it started crashing the system. I uninstalled the drivers and now the stick is non functional.
I went to the genius bar and asked what to do. Answer: buy a used airport extreme card on ebay. I did that and installed it. The reception was very weak, and I could only connect if I was within 4 feet of the gateway.
I went back to the genius bar. The genius put a different airport extreme card in the iMac and verified the weak reception; genius says the antenna doesn't work. I asked him what to do. He said third party repair shop to fix the antenna, or connect with airport express.
I have an airport express that I use for airtunes, so I decided to try that. I have it configured to Join A Wireless Network and to Allow Ethernet Clients. I had previously connected my Viera TV this way, but it was a pretty fragile connection.
The iMac says that ethernet is working but it will not connect to the gateway. (i.e, in network assistant the first button is green but the second is yellow.)
    Any help would be appreciated.

    1. Is it correct to configure Airport Express to Join Another Network and Allow Ethernet Clients?
    Yes
    2. If so, what do I have to do to get the Imac to connect via the ethernet connection? (on 10.4.11)
Verify that you have a good ethernet cable by testing it. Then verify that the ethernet card is working correctly on the iMac. You'll need to temporarily connect the iMac directly to one of the LAN <-> ports on the 2Wire router. If you can connect to the Internet, you know the ethernet card is good on the iMac.
Then verify that the ethernet port is working on the AirPort Express by testing it with another computer's ethernet port. Turn off the wireless on the computer and verify that you can connect. If you can't, power cycle the entire network as follows:
Power everything down, order is not important
Power up the modem first and let it run a few moments, then start the 2Wire router and let it run a few moments, then the AirPort Express the same way and finally your computers one at a time the same way
Once you have verified that the ethernet port is working on the AirPort Express and the other computer, try connecting it to the iMac. Power cycle as above if necessary.
    3. Is it possible to fix the airport antenna, or is it a hopelessly expensive repair?
Assuming that the antenna is at fault, it's almost always a very simple connector that has come loose or wire that needs re-soldering. This takes a few seconds to fix. But it probably takes an hour to disassemble the computer first, then assemble it after the repair. It's time intensive, so you might want to get an estimate first. If no problem is found, you'll still pay the same labor rate for the "repair".

  • Creating a bridge with airport extreme (base) and airport express

i am having trouble creating a bridge with airport extreme (base) and airport express. i got the airport express to connect to my network. Airtunes sees it fine. i have an iMac (running Tiger) connected to the airport express via ethernet which i was hoping to get internet on (the iMac doesn't not have built in wireless and i had a spare airport express). now the airport express is no longer visible to the airport setup assistant on that iMac. but, like i mentioned, Airtunes is working fine, and the light is green.
i'm new to the wireless stuff. i am sure i just missed a step. how do i get the iMac to connect to the internet via my airport express bridging to my airport extreme wireless network?
    your help is appreciated.

You can do this with the equipment you have. Configure the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) to act as a WDS main base station and configure the AirPort Express (AX) to act as a WDS remote base station. That will allow you to use the Ethernet port on the AX.
Unfortunately WDS also causes the available wireless bandwidth to be cut in half.

I have a pioneer vsx-910-k and airport express.I have a wireless network at home. What's the best arquiecture/config to do with this hardware?

I would suggest that you connect the Pioneer to the AirPort Express Base Station using an optical digital audio cable that has a TOSlink connector on one end and a 3.5 mm optical connector (Mini Plug) on the other. You can then connect the Mini Plug end into the AirPort's audio port and the TOSlink end into one of the Pioneer's optical digital audio ports.

  • Apple TV Inference with Time Capsule and Airport express?

I have recently bought an Apple TV 2, which seem to be working fine, however since installing it on my wireless network both my Time Capsule and Airport Express can't be found. Following some fault finding it seems that when I unplug the Apple TV I can reconfingure the TC and AE.
The TC and AE are configured to join my existing network....and have happy sat there for a few years.
I would really welcome any ideas.
    Thanks
    R

    Welcome to the discussions!
It sounds like you have the basic configuration covered correctly.
You might want to check some settings on the TC:
Wireless Mode would be create a wireless network
"Allow this network to be extended" should be checked
The AX should be set to "extend a wireless network"
The "allow wireless clients" box should be checked
In this configuration, the ethernet port on the AX is active so things should work.
A minor point...Although the TC is a dual band device, the AirPort Express is not. Can you make sure that that the Express is connecting to the "main" network on your TC? The "guest" network cannot be "extended".
If you place your laptop close to the Express and hold down the option key while you click on the AirPort icon, some connection information will be displayed. The MAC address of the device that the laptop is connecting to will be indicated. Make sure that that this is the MAC address of the AX, and not the TC.
Another note...If you have not changed the default "main" network, the radio mode is broadcasting 802.11n only at 5 GHz. These higher frequencies are absorbed by walls, ceilings and any obstructions much more quickly than 2.4 GHz signals. So, if you AX is some distance away, you may not be receiving a strong signal for the device at that location.
If you have a signal strength utility on your laptop (the "bars" at the top of the screen are not a very good indicator of actual signal strength), turn off the AX and take a reading to see what kind of signal the Express is receiving where it is located.
Please post back with your results.
