Airplay mirroring intermittent sound only through Onkyo Sound System

Downloaded the Mountain Lion y'day. The video is perfect but the sound is intermittent. I got an apple TV y'day which I connected to my Onkyo sound system. I can play itunes and get sound through the sound system both via macbook pro as well as iphone. I can't understand what's wrong when I mirror my laptop. Sooooooooo frustrating. Any good soul who would help me ;(

Update:
First Applecare chat session:
1. Was asked to boot in safe mode. No luck.
2. Was asked to zap the pram. No luck.
Second Applecare session:
1. Was asked to archive and install. No luck.
Third Applecare session:
1. Was asked to try with a clean user. No luck.
At this stage the tech told me they will approve a second mid plane swap, all I have to do is call them in to arrange for the spare part to be shipped to my local Apple techs.
I have to say this: While I am terribly annoyed at this whol e ordeal, having Applecare has made an incredible difference in the stress levels of this whole business. Each of these 3 sessions were done as an onine chat. I kept working and only had to make sure to keep an eye on the tech in case he was asking for something.
It is a **** of a lot better than to play phone tag with two tiers of tech support. While sure, I am glad that Applecare extends my coverage by two years, the combination of being allowed to deal with these issues over a chat session totally kicks ***. And the on-site repairs are awesome when going to an Apple store is too much of a hassle.
This is the last time I don't purchase Applecare at the same time I purchase a Mac.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Only through iTunes/Quicktime and only if the TV supports HDCP.

main speaker stopped working. Phone does not ring, sound only through earpiece/headphone. What to do?

I spoke to the reseller today and they aggred to exchanged it. They didn't elaborate on the actual cause but thought that it had to be a hardware issue.
It could either be the issue that Euvix suggested or it could be as simple as the outer speaker is simply not working.
Anesi, did you use the phone before the upgrade? Looking at what you've written I take you didn't so I would go back and get it exchanged.

  • ITunes only through external sound card

    Hi,
I've recently bought a Focusrite Liquid Saffire 56 and am really enjoying it. When i'm not using it for recording, I keep it connected to my speakers as it gives a better output than that of the 3.5mm headphone jack (for an aux in to my speakers).
I was just wondering if there was any way that i could get ONLY iTunes out of the external sound card so that all my sounds from other apps like Mail and Safari etc. would come through my Macbook Pro's speakers? I just don't like it when I get the big air rush sound coming through my speakers when an email is sent using Mail, and then other little bleeps from everything else are quite annoying too.
    Thanks in advance

    Open the "Sound" "System Preference"
Select the "Sound effects" tab. Tell it to play sound effects
    through Internal Speakers.

  • No sound only through built in speakers!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have just had the ipod nano 5th generation but cant get no sound! The sound is coming through the built in speakers. Ive tried the headphones and on the dock but still no sound!!! Ive gone through all the settings and sound checks and theres nothing in the manual does any one know how to fix this????

Yes, make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store to have it replaced, or take it back to where you bought it and exchange it.

  • Incessant clicking sound, only through internal speaker

My powerbook is making an incessant clicking sound from (or near) the left speaker that turns off when I plug in an external speaker. I've searched the archives and found that Tiger was supposed to fix this ages ago, but I'm on OS 10.4.11. What do I do?

May I ask what you use as a work around?
I just noticed that if I change my system preferences to digital out - the internal speaker no longer functions with FCEHD - so now I am thinking that I can run a optical to the input of my M-Audio box and monitor it that way - or it may even feed back into the USB speakers. I feel stupid having to rig up a $4,000 computer system...

  • Sound only through digital out

Ok! Forum doesn´t allow you to make a search before you write, these days.
    Nevermind!
My daughters MacBook will not play through internal speakers.
In sys. pref. only option is digital out.
However connecting speakers/headphones works as normal.
Is this hard/ or software based?
We asked this Q before, but are now ready to send the computer for repair.
If it is hardware based, it´s probably not worth doing?

Sometimes the micro switch inside the headphone socket gets stuck.  Look inside the socket - if you can see a red light, that's what's happened.
To unstick the microswitch, plug and unplug a headphone jack into the socket 20-30 times.  If that doesn't work, use a non conducting probe (like a toothpick) to gently reach inside the socket and flick the switch

  • I have connected my MacBook Pro to my television using the correct cables, but now I cannot hear sound, only through my MacBook. How do I get the sound through my television?

My MacBook Pro is up to date on updates and it's a Westinghouse television with a rocket fish hdmi connecting cord.

What MacBook Pro have you got? Not all MacBooks Pro can transfer audio through Mini DisplayPort, Thunderbolt or HDMI > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4241
If you have connected the TV to your Mac through Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt and your computer doesn't support audio over that port, you have to connect external speakers

  • Sound only plays through one earphone

hey i'm new here so bear with me if i make any mistakes.
recently my 30GB ipod video started playing sound only through one earphone, i tried several different pairs but the problem was the same. i took it to my local apple shop and they said it can't be fixed, but you could have it replaced for £109, i'm a student i don't have £109!
he said i could get a radio remote, something like this:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Apple-MA070G-C-Radio-Remote/dp/B000MTEER4/ref=pdbbs_sr4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1200145716&sr=8-4
i wasn't prepared to spend that much so just got a standard remote control with no radio function, however i didn't realise that this had to be connected through the headphone socket! what's the cheapest and most convenient way i can get sound going through both my headphones again? can i get a standard remote that just goes through the adapter at the bottom?
    many thanks, jack

  • Headphones stopped working after update, sound only on left side.

I have a good set of Bose headphones that have worked great for my MacBook Pro, iPad, and iPod. I noticed after I updated the software for my MBP, sound would only come out of the left side of the headphones. I checked for mono vs. stereo, balance, all the other stuff I could find, but had no luck in finding a fix. I gave up and just used the headphones for with my iPhone and iPad...until I updated those to iOS 8.2 and the same problem happened: sound only through the left side. The headphones still work with other non-Apple devices and even with other apple devices not upgraded to the most recent OS.
Any suggestions on how to fix? Not a fan of my $200+ headphones being useless now just because of a software update.

    Try a NVRAM reset:

  • Can I connect imac to HDMI and also Surround sound also through HDMI using the thunderbolt sockets via an adaptor into a HDMI?

I want to be able to connect my imac to my TV and Surround Sound, from what I have read the best want of doing this is both via HDMI. Before I go out and buy another adaptor for a second thunderbolt to HDMI I was wondering if this would work? I basically I want to be able to stream videos from Imac to TV with sound coming through surround sound and also when I am on itunes have the music come through the surround sound. At the moment I have an adaptor (thunderbolt to HDMI) which goes into the TV and a optical cable from TV into the surround sound, then I also have a 3.5mm from the imac to the Surround sound, but I find this lacks in quailty. Would upgrading to a HDMI work and be better ? Should I also look into an optical cable though I dont see how to connect this to the imac?

OK. From what I can tell here, the Sony HT-SF2000 has 3 HDMI inputs & one HDMI output, so the simplest hookup would be to connect the iMac to one of the the Sony's HDMI inputs via the Thunderbolt-HDMI adaptor, & connect the Sony's HDMI output to the TV's HDMI input.
Use the Sony like an HDMI input selector for the TV (plugging in your other HDMI devices, if any, to it). Use the HDMI input on it from the iMac for both movie & iTunes sound output, & for TV output for video. (You can even use the TV as a second screen for the iMac.)
If for some reason you want a separate input for the iMac's sound output, you can use the optical input on the Sony for that, with a TOSLINK cable connection to the iMac. You will need either a Mini-TOSLINK adaptor or a TOSLINK to mini-TOSLINK cable to connect to the audio output of the iMac.

  • HT201335 does the Ipod touch work with the airplay mirroring

Does the Ipod touch work with airplay mirroring?

No. Only iPhone 4S and iPad (2nd or 3rd Gen) as it requires more processing power. You can still use airplay with your device though.

  • AirPlay Mirroring from Mac to Apple TV intermittent sound drop-off

I can't stream iTunes or Spotify to my Apple TV without getting intermittent sound drop-out (say every 30 seconds) when I use AirPlay mirroring through my Mac. This odd thing is streaming through my iPad or IPhone to Apple TV is perfectly fine; so is using my Mac to stream to my Sonos speakers. I can even stream iTunes pefectly fine through only the Apple TV alone - so it's nothing to do with my broadband connection
I have today performed upgrades to the Apple TV and my Airport Express firmware but the problem persists. Anyone else experiencing this or found a solution?

Hi, same here for me. Using AirPlay for streaming music from my Mac Mini (iTunes latest version) to my ATV2 (software latest version) has intermittent drop-outs (about every 10 to 15 sec for 5 to 10 sec). At the same time streaming to my Airport Express station in the kitchen works fine. Using the VOX player streaming from the Mac to the ATV works fine, only that I can only stream to one destination. Tried streaming from iTunes to ATV only, the problem remains. Streaming video - even HD - works fine. Using the ATV to select music from my Mac's iTunes library works fine, too. Still I want to stream from my iTunes on the Mac to several destiations including the ATV. Seems to me to be a problem of iTunes. I think the effect appeared after an update of iTunes or OSX, because it had worked fine before, already.

  • Airplay mirroring sound but no picture

    Hello,
I've searched through the forums and have found several threads on mirror issues with airplay but none of the answers helped me get up and running.
I have reviewed the airplay guides on apple.com as well as the trouble shooting guides for airplay mirroring with no success. I believe all my system components meet the requirements but I still get sound with no picture when using desktop mirroring.
    I am using:
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011)
Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    OSX Yosemite Version 10.10.1
    Apple TV
    Model A1427
    Software 7.0.2 (6915)
    Signal Strength is 5 bubbles
    Ipad
    4th Gen Wi-Fi
    Model MD510LL/A
    Software iOS 8.1.2
I have turned on airplay on my apple tv and restarted / reconnected it several times. I have also restarted my mabook pro several times. Airplay mirroring works fine on my iPad i just can't seem to get picture from my macbook. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello there, Aprov.
Great job being thorough on troubleshooting the issue and isolating it down to your Mac. At this point your next step would be to follow the recommendations in the following Knowledge Base article for troubleshooting with an alternate user account:
Isolating an issue by using another user account - Apple Support
If you isolate the issue to only your user account, then the article offers the following recommendations:
If the issue happens in only one user account
If you have isolated an issue to a single user account, then you should focus your troubleshooting on that user and specific apps that have symptoms when logged in as that user. Mac OS X: How to troubleshoot a software issue provides some assistance with this. If you are just seeing the issue in one account, you most likely do not need to reinstall any apps.
Make sure you're using the most recent version of Mac OS X. If you're using a version of OS X Lion earlier than 10.7.4, see this article for assistance.
If you are seeing issues with an application unexpectedly quitting in just one account:
See this help article for additional assistance in OS X Mavericks.
See this help article for additional assistance in OS X Mountain Lion.
see this help article for additional assistance in OS X Lion.
Other, app-specific issues isolated to a single user account can be caused by a preference file (plist) or setting. Check the app's documentation or support website for instructions on troubleshooting specific preference or setting files. For example, iLife preference troubleshooting is documented in iLife: Troubleshooting Basics. If you are looking for help with troubleshooting a specific alert message or issue, you should try searching the Apple Support website for the text of the alert message you're seeing.
If you need more help with troubleshooting an issue isolated to a specific user account, you may wish to contact Apple Support. If you work with AppleCare to troubleshoot the issue, be sure to mention any troubleshooting steps you have already performed and the results, and the text of any alert messages you're seeing. You may want to take a screenshot of any alert messages so you can refer to them later.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.
