AirPlay Mirroring shows scrambled output in guest account

When using Mountain Lion's AirPlay Mirroring in the guest account, all I see on an Apple TV is some flickering scrambled image.
The same issue is observed by one other user on the Net.
The reponse by another user is as follows..
"To be more precise: after using AirPlay Mirroring in one account, one needs to log out that account before one can use Mirroring in another account on that same Mac. The same applies if you happen to use Mirroring in the guest account first, and then leave that account logged in and try to use Mirroring in some regular account."
IS THIS A BUG?

i get this flickering from both my machines:
Mini is wired into Linksys Router and Netgear switch
MBP wireless to same router
ATV2 is hard wired into router
both my OSX devices display flickering. IOS devices are all fine.
Any one any idea at all?
i dont have any other accounts on both machines except the admin user account i use for myself

  • Airplay Mirroring shows only black screen on ATV

I have a mid 2011 MacBook Pro and a 3rd generation Apple TV. When I installed Mountain Lion a couple of weeks ago and tried out Airplay Mirroring, it worked fine.
I wanted to try it out again today, but it doesn't work anymore. When switching to Airplay Mirroring by clicking on the icon in the menu bar, the Apple TV turns black and I am getting the color wheel on the MBP ever time I get to the menu bar. The Airplay Mirroring button is unresponsive and the only way to get the color wheel to go away is to restart the MBP.
I've already restarted the Apple TV multiple times, as well as my Time Capsule.
When streaming videos from within iTunes using AirPlay, everything works fine. Also AirPlay Mirroring from my iPhone works fine.
Anyone have any suggestions what could be the cause of the black screen and MBP crash?

Just chiming it that I have the very same problem. I bought an AppleTV yesterday. I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro running OS X 10.8.2 (Is that Mountain Lion, or Lion? Whatever, it's the latest OS. Stop with silly names Apple - just versions OK - I digress). I have 2.7 Ghz Core i7 processor and 8GB of RAM. So, I am within specs for AirPlay mirroring.
So, it mirrored once fine. I logged out of the MacBook and into another account, and it would show a blank screen on the TV. Thought it might be something with parental controls or something, so logged back into my account, and now all we get is a blank screen. Reboots of the AppleTV do nothing. Went ahead and installed the latest firmware on the AppleTV.
All other AirPlay devices work fine. I can stream from my iPhones.
This is so not like Apple to have such a buggy feature shipped with a device. I probably wouldn't use it that much, but don't put it in there if it doesn't work right. There are several threads on this topic, so it's not a unique problem.
Also, Photostream for AppleTV is poo poo, too. Another topic.

  • Airplay Mirroring no sound output! (MacbookPro Lion)

I have been successfully airplay mirroring with iPad with no problems. However, when I do the same to my MacbookPro Early 2011 , it works only for graphic , but the sound seems to speak only from my Mac. I have already tried to fix this by System preference - > sound -> Output. The problem is when I click to select source for speaker that is airplay for apple TV while I'm airplay mirroring , it always disconnects my Mac from Apple TV and then Apple TV on my TV screen go to standby mode. However, I can steam movie via itunes perfectly. My wish is just to have a graphic and sound come together from the TV when I do the AirPlay for skype or something else other than Itunes. Thanks

Luxurypop, try selecting the audio output before you launch airplay mirror.  Please just confirm you are mirroring as you say you have Lion on the title not mountain lion (OS X 10.8).  Your macnook pro certainly mirrors but please confirm it is not an OS issue.
    Regards
    Jules

  • HT204291 AirPlay mirroring shows small picture on the TV

My HD TV shows a picture not much bigger than the one on my iPad.

Is it on specific content? Have you tried rebooting all devices and making sure they are up to date?

  • Airplay Mirroring

Airplay Mirroring show not devices detected, the Apple TV is on, can i help you please

According to Apple: AirPlay Mirroring is available with iPad 2 or later; iPhone 4S; iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer) with Mountain Lion.

  • Only guest account shows up at start up on Macbook Air

Last night I was updating my Macbook Air, left it alone to do it's update, came back the next morning to turn it on and it was stuck at the apple logo.
After preforming a safe boot, it took me to the login page however only the guest account shows up.
I'm not sure if something went wrong during the update, it was at 70% battery life when i preformed the update so I didn't have it plugged into a power source like recommened, but i've never had a problem with it before.
I've tried enterng control+alt+command+enter which gives me the chance to put in a username and a password.
First I enter my name and passwor, but it was rejected.
So then I tried my apple ID and password, and it was rejected again.
I know I'm entering the right username/password, because it has been the same for my Air, Pro, and iMac.
Now I'm not sure if the account even exsists on my Macbook Air, but the guest account only allowed me to use safari.
I'm not able to access system prefences or anything.
I'm also having trouble with my iMac after updaiting to Mavericks, it work fine until the update and now it's saying my disk is corrupt, but that's a whole other story.
I'm just hoping to fix the problem at home because I really don't want to take two computers down to the Apple store.

If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS. You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode.

My iPad 4 does not show up on my TV screen when in AirPlay mirroring mode using WiFi.  The iPad displays AirPlay set to TV with the Mirroring On (green).
My iPad IOS software is 8.2 and my Apple TV software is at 7.1.  The TV displays the Apple Menu.  The “Settings” does however displays the General menu allowing me to see:
    Apple software:          7.1 (7003)
Apple TV:                   Model No. A1464, Part No. MD199B/A
    Signal Strength shows 5 circles.
It does not display the iPad screen but when I use the BT Sport App I can hear the sound but there is no video.  I have searched the internet for a solution to no avail. The problem first arose when the IOS was at 8.1+ but it worked correctly briefly when I updated to IOS 8.2.  Can you help please?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    Restart your mobile device.

  • Airplay mirror imaging icon will not show up on my macbook pro even though i downloaded mountain lion. How do i get airplay icon to appear on my macbook pro?

i have a macbook pro (almost positive that its a 2010 version) and i got mountain lion. The BIGGEST AND MAIN REASON i bought mountain lion was so that i can do airplay, allowing me to mirror image what is on my mac to my Apple TV. my whole computer is updated as far as the displays and newer features but the small airplay icon will not show up on the top of my screen. therefore, not allowing me to mirror image what is on my mac to my tv... it is connected to the same wifi as my apple tv. idk what to do. could it be because my macbook pro is a 2010? desprately looking for help...please help me with this issue
    thank you

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Read > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404 AirPlay Mirroring requires an Early 2011 or newer MacBook Pro, so your MacBook Pro isn't supported.
To mirror your MacBook Pro's display onto the Apple TV, you can use an application like Beamer or AirParrot even if AirPlay Mirroring isn't compatible

  • AirPlay Mirroring and Output via Digital Adapter at the same time

    Hello,
Is it possible to use AirPlay Mirroring to an apple tv and the digital Adapter at the same time?
We want to get the Screen on a beamer and a tv at the same moment.
If this isn't possible are there any chances to get AirPlay mirroring working on two Apple TVs at the same time?
We are using the newest iPad Air
    Greets

Unfortunately not. One output is supported at a time. But perhaps you can use some sort of an HDMI signal splitter? I've not tried it, and perhaps it won't work at all, but you might try outputing directly to a splitter that then can be connected to both a TV and beamer.

  • HT1595 I am not able to connect from my laptop to airplay mirroring equipment, icon is not showing on my laptop.

I am not able to connect from my laptop to airplay mirroring equipment, icon is not showing on my laptop. It does show when I hook up a HDMI wire to the apple TV box.

I think you mean Ethernet, not HDMI wire. If the airplay icon is showing up when wired then that would indicate an issue with your wifi network.

  • Disabled guest account won't stop showing up during start up.

My MacBook Pro started displaying a guest account option (next to my log in) when I start the computer. I disabled the guest account but it still shows it on the start up screen (and allows for anyone to use safari without having to log in -- if I click on the guest account it says that it will restart in a safe mode to allow access to safari). Is this normal ? Thanks

Have a read here OS X 10.7.2 with iCloud showing Guest user account at log-in
To get rid of it, uncheck "Find my Mac" in System Peferences -> iCloud

  • AirPlay/mirroring on guest network

    Scenario: 4 SSID
    2.4GHz
    5.0GHz
    2.4GHz Guest
    5.0GHz Guest
Apple TV configured to connect to option #2: 5.0GHz
Users on guest network (2.4GHz Guest or 5.0 GHz Guest) are not able to use AirPlay/mirroring. Is there a solution so i don't have to switch the SSID on the Apple TV back and forth?
router can be either Airport Extreme or Netgear R6300 ac.
    Thanks

i'm trying to simplify my network, rather than adding devices, i'd like to take advantage of what i have.
A few weeks ago i read this article (https://discussions.apple.com/message/21353187#21353187) and tried to implement it but it did not work out. I might have missed something though. Has anyone else tried and got it to work?

  • Audio output issue using Airplay Mirroring over Apple TV

I'm using the newest version of Apple TV to mirror my display from my MAC using the newest macbook pro with mountain lion 10.8.
The problem i'm having is whenever i try to change audio output in airplay mirroring mode the mirroring shuts off. I can't change outputs!! It's like it's forcing the macbook to use the apple tv hdmi port for audio. I NEED to use my USB DAC which i have connected to my MPB.
Grateful for any ideas, i did not expect the software to act as crappy as this. Using different audio sources successfully is something i took for granted.

Well, since I can't imagine this being a feature of Airplay I assume we're either hitting the limitations of the technology, or it's a bug. Knowing Apple I suspect it's a limitation of Airplay, perhaps because audio and video are sent out as an integrated stream?
I agree, this does suck, since all I have to use as audio is the tiny 1 watt speaker on my Epson projector! I can't even use audio out from the Apple TV, since all it has is that useless optical port. Very frustrating indeed.

  • AirPlay Mirroring Icon does not show up

Hi, for whatever reasons, my MacBook Pro does not show the AirPlay Mirroring Icon in the Statusbar. Yes, it is a later 2011 model of the MacBook Pro (the one with Thunderbolt) so it is definitely compatible. Does anyone have an idea, where to find the icon?

Make sure your Apple TV is a second or third generation, the version is updated to 5.0.2 and AirPlay is turned on.
Both devices also have to be on the same network.

  • Airplay mirroring is taking very long to load and is only showing one static view then it crashes

airplay mirroring is taking very long to load and is only showing one static view then it crashes.
I am tring to mirror ipad2. I just upgraded to IOS5. Is it an apple TV problem or an Ipad2 problem?
What should I try to fix the problem?

I think i found the solution.  I got mine working.
Reboot the iPad by holding down the Home button and power button at the same time for 6 seconds.  The screen will turn black, apple logo will appear, and it will restart.
Then restart the Apple TV.  (I just unplugged the power)
Then restart your wireless router.  (again, I just pulled the plug on it)
After doing that, i tried the mirroring again, and it worked great.  As soon as I turned it on, it appeared on my TV and is working very quickly.  (well, everything I do on the iPad is delayed on the TV by half a second)
