Airport and my printer no likey!

Hi everyone. Here's my prob. I have an iMac g5 and an iBook Graph. SE 466Mhz. I can not for the life of me get either of them to detect my printer. It's connected to the airport extreme base station (the brick) and I have tried turning the airport off and on, disconnecting the printer, re-loading the software and nothing works. How can I get it to work? PLease help!

Use the process outlined here:
HP Printers (and others) not on compatibility list and Airport Extreme Printing
http://tech.ifelix.net/1300.html
Using the Gimp-Print drivers for the HP PhotoSmart P1000 printer.
The supplied HP C3100 series drivers will not work when the printer is connected to an Airport base station.

I use a macbook, apple airport and epson printer. After several printer jobs, I get a message "printer offline". I have tried restarting computer. restarting printer and still cannot connect, I can print directly with a USB cable. How can I connect to my printer via the airport?

Delete the printer in System Preferences and re-add it. You may also want to restart the Airport.

  • Multiple duplicate prints via apple airport and bonjour printer driver on HP Color Laserjet 1600

Please advise if this request will incur any costs as I have exhausted all self-help resources and articles in your knowledge base. Nothing applies to my issue. I used to be able to use this printer via USB or wireless network using apple airport base station and bonjour printer driver. When my company ugraded to Windows 7, USB seems to work ok and wireless under same setup works too, but each page prints out many duplicates >40 duplicates when in wireless state. I am also trying to print from my IPAD and this does not seem to work at all. If you tell me this printer will not perform, please just be honest and let me know. I don't mind buying another printer if needed but don't want to incur more high level cartridge costs (bought many due to duplicate issue) and could afford the new printer instead. Deciding between brother or hp depending on usable feedback here. Using Lenovo T410 for all that matters...Thank you, Marc

Unfortunately, without knowing the model of the printer I wont be able to let you know too much information on the issue or how to resolve it. Also, when you upgrade your OS you often have to update the programs you are using, I would recommend uninstalling the printer and using the software available on http://goo.gl/7R6HT.
    Let me know Marc!

  • Parallels (Win XP), Airport, and wireless printer

Hello, I am a very novice Parallels user with an issue. I need to be able to print using Word 2007 with Parallels on my macbook and mac pro. The problem is, I have my printer hooked up via USB to my airport extreme to print wirelessly, and I can't figure out how to get the whole setup to print wirelessly in Parallels. I'm clueless. Can you help? Thanks!

I was able to get my HP DeskJet printer running using Windows XP in Parallels, by doing the following:
Select 'Add a new printer' in Windows
Select 'Local Printer' in the dialog box (auto detect and install should be off), click next.
Choose 'Create a new port' and "Standard TCP/IP Port'. Click next.
For the printer IP address, enter the address of the base station ie. 10.0.1.1. The port name will be filled automatically. Click next.
For the device type, choose 'Hewlet Packard Jet Direct', then click Finish.
Choose your printer from the list and follow the rest of the prompts to install and configure the driver.

  • Can the Airport and the Printer be in Different Rooms?

I have the Airport Express in my old Chicago apartment. I also have Direct TV, where there is only one phone jack that works for the TV line so my modem is positioned next to it. I also have the Airport Express there so ethernet cord can make it from the modem to the airport.
Now that you have the background info, I currently have my HP c3180 connected via USB and it works perfectly. (Thanks for the kudos on setting up multiple laptops to it). But, I want to move the printer to another room down the hall. Is there a way to maintain wireless capabilities without the USB? Or do I need a really long cord to snake around door and floor moldings?
Hope I wasn't confusing. Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance.

libbytd, Welcome to the discussion area!
If the printer does not have built-in wireless you would need to run a USB cable between the printer and AirPort Express (AX).

  • Airport and Wireless Printing?

I have an older airport. The domed one that looks like a UFO. I'd like to be able to print wirelessly from my Dell and Mac laptops. Does anybody have instructions on how to do so? My printer is a Lexmark X2650. I have a Powerbook G4 and a Dell Latitude D620. Right now, my configuration is as follows: Ethernet cable comes into the Airport router. Ancient Dell desktop is physically connected to the router and the two laptops connect wirelessly. Any printing has to be done from the Dell desktop (the printer is connected to it). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If your AirPort unit has a USB port (not all domed models do), you may be able to print through it to your printer. Here is a Lexmark Web page that discusses that:

  • Airport and network printer

Well, everything works fine. Internet and mail. But I cannot print. Airport is plugged into an ethernet network. The printer is in it too. A GCC Laserprinter Elite XL 40. Yes, apple talk is acitvated. When I try to ping the printer it says 100 % loss. Could it be the dsl router?

Use AirPort Admin Utility to disable that option. This picture shows the option enabled. You want it DISABLED.

  • Can I use Airport Express for printing and Ethernet printing at same time?

I've been trying to set up a couple of laser printers that were given to me recently. The printers are Apple LaserWriter 16/600 PS and Samsung CLP-510. The reason I'd like to have both up and running is because the black toner for the Samsung costs twice as much as the toner for the LaserWriter. I have two questions that I am hoping someone will be able to answer.
    1) The CLP prints a test page just fine. I was finally able to get the Samsung printing while directly connected to my PowerBook G4 via usb (I had to install a Xerox Phaser 6100 driver to do so!). Today I tried putting the usb into my Airport Express (which I use for my portable internet and airtunes) and now the printer does not respond. When I try to add the CLP as a bonjour printer, I get an error adding the printer and the printer does not respond. Can someone offer some advice as to how and if the CLP may work via the Airport Express?
    2) The LaserWriter prints a test page just fine. I purchased a transceiver (albeit not an Apple transceiver - this one says Asante Friendlynet, the guy I bought it from said it would work though). The transceiver is connected to the Ethernet port on the printer - and I have a yellow ethernet cable (?) running from the transceiver to the ethernet port on my computer. I read somewhere on the internet that I need to turn on Appletalk in order to use the printer via ethernet but when I went into my network settings to do that, there was a warning that I could not turn on appletalk for ethernet without forsaking my airport. Can someone offer some advice as to how and if the 16/600 PS may work via ethernet without disrupting my (working) airport express? Also - I did not receive any software or drivers with this printer but I read that I may not need to (they come with Tiger - ?) Is anyone able to confirm this?
Any help would be TOTALLY appreciated!
    Leigh-Ann

Hello Kappy! Thank you for taking the time to reply to my question.
I should update you at this point to say that I can add the 16/600 PS printer through a process that I found called 'Direct IP printing over ethernet'. (I think I've done this correctly - but I honestly have no idea about network stuff). Here's what I did:
-went into system prefs and looked at the network settings under built-in ethernet tab. Under TCP-IP I found the IP address of my network host.
-In the Printer Setup Utility I tried to manually add the 16/600 PS printer. In the Printer Browser window, I selected IP Printer.
-Under IP printer, I selected LPD Protocol. I inserted the IP address copied from my network settings (above) in the address bar. In the Queue bar I typed in the name of the printer 'Apple LaserWriter 16/600 PS'.
-Again in the Printer Browser box I gave the printer a name and location. Finally, in the 'print using' box I selected Apple and then chose the model from the drop down list. 'Apple LaserWriter 16/600 PS fax v.2014.016'
-I got a dialogue box that asked about other installable features - clicked ok.
-when I tried to print a Word document, the Apple LaserWriter driver opened up and appeared in my dock and then I got an immediate error saying "network host ---.---.--.--- is busy, down, or unreachable..."
-I tried to repair permissions, but it did not resolve my issue.
-I noticed that even after adding the 16/600, it did not show up as a bonjour printer, but remained visible as a printer in my list (although grayed out).
I did some troubleshooting and the best I could find as a close match for my problem was that perhaps I had entered the name incorrectly in the Queue box...? If anyone knows how to find the appropriate name to insert I would sure appreciate knowing.
Finally - you should probably know that I received this printer from someone else. I guess I'm wondering if I need to be resetting network settings on the printer somehow? The test page lists the following:
    Ethernet (Address: 08:00:07:84:78:e9)
    EtherTalk: PostScript
    NetWare: AutoSelect
    TCP/IP: AutoSelect
    IP address: 0.0.0.0
And - now finally, to answer your questions (the best I can, that is)
I did connect the yellow network cable directly into my laptop (right side, 4th input, counting away from me). I have a portable internet modem that plugs into my wall (for power) and then has a cable (Ethernet?) that goes into my Airport Express (LAN port?). I have no other router and there are no other inputs or outputs on my modem. My Airport Express has only one input for the modem, one mini input for airtunes, and one usb input (in which I have a cable connecting to my other laser printer (now working wirelessly via Airport Express!!)
Should I have these cables hooked up differently?
What is a Phonenet adaptor? My internet is provided via a cable service (not DSL). It is wireless and portable - I can take it to any major city in Canada and it works as long as it is plugged into a power source and near a window.
I really appreciate any help you can offer. At this point I must have spent the better part of almost two weeks trying to get these older laser printers up and running.
    Thank you again.
    Leigh-Ann

+For now I have it set to Share Public IP address - Is this correct for my Network Setup with The Airport Extreme being the only router being used ?+
This would be the correct setting if the AirPort Extreme is connected to a simple modem (one ethernet port).

5 GHz name indicates that you have elected to use the option to assign a separate name to the 5 GHz network. This will allow you to "tell" compatible computers to connect to that network, rather than the slower 2.4 GHz network
Use Wide Channels is recommended for 5 GHz operation.
Interference Robustness often does more harm than good and should not be used unless you know you are in a area with a lot of wireless networks and you feel that your network is experiencing interference issues from a nearby network.

  • I have an airport extreme with a HP Folio laptop and cannon pixma MX882 printer. when i am VPN'd in thru Cisco vpn and try to print the wireless print connection stops. i Un-VPN and it prints. then i have to go back into VPN to continue?how do i configure

i have an Airport Extreme wireless router, HP Folio laptop (company supplied) and a Canon PIXMA MX882 wireless printer, copier, scanner and fax.
when i am VPN's in thru CISCO VPN to my company Intranet site I cannot print wirelessly. i have to turn off VPN, priint and log back into the company intranet site.  is there a way to configure the router so that it is not blocking the signal?
    Tx

The problem is not the router.. the issue is the vpn has put your computer in a different IP range with a different gateway. When you turn off the vpn the computer returns to local lan and can print.
Some vpn software allows you to set gateway to use local net instead of remote gateway or access to other webistes or local lan.
    Read up the issue.

    Cisco vpn client..

I did not search much.. just grabbed the first article I could find that explains the issue.
The whole point of the vpn is whilst it is connected your computer is NOT part of the Local Lan .. it is part of the Remote LAN via the vpn tunnel.
It is also a security risk using split tunnelling so often it will not be allowed.
Plug the printer directly into the computer via usb or whatever.. Local connection will work.. not local lan.

  • Airport Extreme Sharing printer to Leopard and Windows 7 via Ethernet port.

    Hello!
My home office is in a mixed environment, 1 iMac with Leopard 10.5.8, and the other iMac running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on bootcamp. Both computers are connected to the Airport Extreme (dual band version, firmware 7.4.2) via Ethernet. I attached the HP LaserJet P1006 to the Airport's usb port in order to share the printer to both platforms.
My problem is that, I got the printer installed on Win 7 by using bonjour print service v2.02 without any problem as it said works in both Ethernet and wireless, I sent a print test from win 7 successfully, then I did another test from leopard ( as I presumed it should works also), however, it says "the printer is in use". and wouldn't print. I tried restart the Airport Extreme and tried print from leopard again and that was fine but then Win 7 couldn't print.
Is there any solution for Mac + Win environment like my description? If I have 2 computers running on OS X they print perfectly well. Thanks all!
My solution for now is to physically plugging the printer to where I need to print from. I use Ethernet wired both computers is because I want to take the advantage of the gigabyte lan port for speedy files transfer between both computers.

If networking isn't working out for you, you may want to try out a swtich. Best Buy sells one by IOGEAR that allows for two USB connections to tie into one computer. So long as windows 7 can either download its own driver for the printer for basic features, or if you want to download canon's driver this solution will work. The only draw back is having to bring the laptop near the printer when you need to print.
    IOGEAR SWITCH
    MX860 Drivers and Support Page
My opinions do not in any way shape or form represent Best Buy's Official decisions.

  • Airport and Printer Not working: Please Help!

I'm considering of trowing out my printer or the airport extreme, or my mac pro. The thing is, I don't no which one, So one more try; hope someone can help me!

  • Macbook airport extreem and brother printer/scanner DCP-330C

I have macbook airport extreem and brother printer/scanner DCP-330C and everything works fine.
    I can print wireless.
The only thing that irritates me is, when I start my macbook I first see a screen with MFL-ProSuite, I quit then a screen with connect with USB, I quit and then I see a small blue screen.
Is there a way to get rid of these things, so I can start directly with the things I want to do.
    Thanks for the reply.
    Frank

That is something that has to do with the brother software. Doesn't have anything to do with the airport base station.
I would try and Contact brother to see about disabling it.
What I think , is probably because the printer is on the airport not the computer so brothers software is getting confused.
See about deleting just the software and not the drivers. That is if you dont need the software.

  • Airport Extreme and USB printer

This past week upgraded my home system to Verizon's FIOS--new router, wiring, etc. Got the Airport up and running without too many glitches. I did have to unplug it a few times in the process. But now I find the Airport no longer sees my Lexmark C510 printer. It's never had a problem seeing it before and I fail to understand why any external changes would affect this connection between the Airport and printer. I note, too, that in the past week I updated the Airport firmware to the latest, and have heard that others have problems with printers subsequent to that. The Airport DOES see the USB hard drive connected. No trouble there. This is purely a printer issue.
I have unplugged the printer, unplugged the Base Station, and shut down everything and brought it up one piece at a time, but no change in the status of the printer.

Try as others have to roll back the firmware to 7.3.2. Worth a shot since it was running ok before the upgrade.
