Airport drops down, Beacon lost thing...

H*ll, I got this problem since 10.5.3 and now I am sick of it.
Is Apple gonna fix this? I'm thinking of selling my still brand new iMac cause it's done nothing the past 6 months.
I tried 1000 of things.
It's amazing. Hope this will be the central topic for calling apple to do something.

William,
I know nothing, and wish to know nothing about deep going computer technics and such, this is the main reason for buying a mac.
However, if my internet connection was 100% stable before the update and continuously drops after the update then indeed there might be something else the matter and it would be unfair to blame anyone.
However, having re-installed a 10.5 basic OS on my iMac, which was having exactly the same problems, it ran smooth again.
And running Vista on my MacBook Pro doesn't have any problems either.
I know this is not a scientific trial and error testing method but the sequence of events do allow blaming the external factor as opposed to the internal factor..... ie. something Apple added/changed/deleted within the update.... hence my post.
The change/addition or deletion might be for the best, this I cannot judge, but in this case it would of been good if sufficient information would of been provided in order to provide a proper basis for these changes/addition or deletions.
The fact that this has been going on for over 4 weeks now without any sign of a change deeply disappoints me. And the fact that 1000's of other users don't have this problem, good for them, but judging by the amount of "noise" on the internet I am definitely not the only one experiencing problems with this update.
And being a Mac enthusiast enabling one to technically solve these issue from behind your own desk is nice, but I definitely am not, nor do I wish to be one of these people, I bought my Macs for ease of use, reliability and it's idiot proof setup and use..... and this is not what I am currently experiencing.
Kindest regards
Jan

  • Time Capsule appears twice in Airport drop down menu

Menu Bar > Airport drop-down menu: My Time Capsule's wireless name shows up twice in my list of wifi sources. Once in the group with all the other routers and again in a group called "Devices".
    Long story short…
I start with a perfectly functional, WPA/WPA2 password-protected Time Capsule: Over a year old. Two MbP's using it for Time Machine backup. Connected to a 1.5TB MyBook external HD via usb. Doubles as my wifi router. Everything's connected to it, including my wifi-enabled printer. Works great. No issues.
I get this idea in my head that I need to hide my wifi signal. I figure it out and ¡Viola! Hidden. Then I try to add my wifi-enabled printer to the list of allowed devices in "Access Control". I hit a big snag and can't figure out how to get it to connect (btw, don't buy a Brother printer. Pure crap). So, I give up and revert permissions back to visible, password-protected state.
Skipping irrelevant issues that I already resolved, I now have the wireless name of my Time Capsule appearing twice in the airport drop down menu. It appears with all the other wifi sources my machine detects AND appears at the bottom under a new category called "Devices".
All I want is to have things back the way they were and this anomaly in the drop down menu is a constant reminder that I #1 failed and #2 bought a crap printer.
(Long story long, I guess. Sorry.) How do I delete this "Devices" group from the airport drop down menu?

  • Airport drop-down menu greyed out

On my MacBook, the drop-down menu that appears when the Airport menu bar icon is clicked has greyed out. Although the MacBook joins my primary network just fine, I cannot choose my secondary network (second base station), even though it is listed. All action choices like "join other network", etc. are also greyed out and cannot be chosen.
I've rebooted, cycled Airport on/off/on, checked settings in Sys Prefs -> Network, etc. I've checked the Airport Extreme Base configuration using Airport Admin utility. This is a new problem, no known changes to system or applications other than installing Apple software updates as issued with a 2 week delay in case there's an update problem.
My Mini shows the drop-down Airport menu normally, and I can choose/join both my primary and secondary networks. Same software status as the MacBook - no new apps, all Apple updates after 2 week delay.
Any ideas for how to get my MacBook to un-grey the Airport menu items? Thanks!

Closing this question out, the MacBook reverted to normal behavior sometime since I posted the problem and this post. No clue why.

  • How can I get the airport drop down menu to allow me to enter a WPA2 Personal Password

Powerbook G4, with Airport Card firmware 9.52. Through the System Preferences, Network, using the "edit" button, I can enter a WPA2 Personal password, but when I go to connect to the network, the drop down menu only allows me to enter a WEP Password.  And, obviously, I get an error message saying I have the wrong password. Why can I use WPA2 in the system preferences, but the airport menu doesn't then allow me to enter a WPA2 password to connect?

Try Connect to Other... from the Airport menu.

  • GoogleWiFi not a choice on Airport drop down and can't add it

I'm confused, my old PowerBook had GoogleWiFi as a Network choice, but MacBook Pro does not, nor can I add it. I live in Mountain View, CA and want to try Google Wifi. Google WiFi sites are no help as they assume the network is on the airport list. Help?

If it doesn't show up that means there's no WiFi site nearby. Do you get your internet service from Google? Do you have the computers Airport card turned on? Are you connected to a different service such as by Ethernet?

  • Drop Downs  (or how to earn 10 easy points)

I'm following the tutorial for building online interactive form, which describes how to use different ui elements in Adobe Interactive Forms. One of the sections describes how to populate a drop down with values from the web dynpro, but I can't get that to work. When pressing the arrow next to the drop down the system think for a couple of seconds but doesn't show anything.
(When I try to use the ready-to-use project  the drop down works fine, but when I try to built my own drop downs it doesn't work)
Is there something else I need to do beside use the Value help drop down from the WD platte and drag the requested node from the data view onto the drop down.

    hi,
The thing you are missing is you need to put some script in the script editor:
    somethng like this
    var jsToExecute = "event.target.SAPValueHelp(\"" + this.somExpression + "\");";
    app.eval(jsToExecute);
on that particular drop down. And also check whether the binding that you are giving is correct like $record.PersonalData.Department.
Hope this would solve your problem
    Thanks,
    kris

  • I was trying to figure out how to stop my pinned apps from disappearing after I've shut-down my computer during storms. In the process of trying things I lost the Orange Firefox drop down box in the upper left corner. How do I get it back?

Question 1 - How do I restore the Orange Firefox drop-down box that was originally at the top of the screen.
Question 2 - How do I undo the last command I changed
Question 3 - How do I prevent my pinned apps from disappearing. I have about 10 loaded and it's a pain to have to reload those several days a week. Seems to only happen if I shut down the computer.

You see the orange (on Linux gray) Firefox button if the Menu Bar is hidden.
    *View > Toolbars > Customize
    *Right-click a toolbar).
*Press F10 or tap the Alt key to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily if the Menu Bar is hidden.
Make sure that you do not use "Clear Recent History" to clear the "Browsing History" when Firefox is closed because that prevails and prevents Firefox from opening tabs from the previous session.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Clear+Recent+History
What do you mean with Question 2: ''How do I undo the last command I changed'' ?
Which last command are you referring to?

Awesome. I REALLY appreciate this. Everything you said directed me to do all the right things. Thanks again. It really is nice not to have to type in my e-mail each time I log in to my frequently-visited sites.

  • Lost all the text in my drop down menus

All of a sudden I do not see any text in my drop down menus or on pop-ups. I tried to open Safari and got the pop up menu with a yellow triangle with a black exclamation point in it. It also had the three buttons at the bottom - one was blue - but no words.
I can open Firefox but not Safari. I can open the System Preferences widget but all I see are the icons, not the names of the choices. No matter what application is open I do not see any words in the dropdown menu.
First I tried zapping the PRAM. Didn't work. Then I booted from the startup disk and ran the disk repair utility, it repaired several things, but I'm still having the problem.
The font on my menu bar has changed too.
I installed x11 two days ago - not from the startup disk but from a website a friend helped me find when I didn't have my disk with me. I also installed Open Office. Should I uninstall those?
Is it possible I got a virus?? I have no clue how to deal with a virus on a Mac. I haven't had any trouble with my iBook since I got it in November 2005, and I don't know any tricks.

    hi Rina!
my apologies, i'm guessing from your name that you might be from a non-english-speaking location ... if so, check to see if this is an issue for you (also see other posts in the thread):

  • We are trying to connect a new WPS printer to our network. We go into Airport utilities and then hit the Base Station drop down to access Add WPS printer. However, when you hover over the Base Station menu, nothing is highlighted. Suggestions?

We have tried to add a WPS Canon Pixma-Pro to our Airport Extreme network. However when we are in Utilities and try to access the Base Station drop down menu nothing is highlighted. Therefore we can not click on the Add WPS Printer title. I'm sure it is some user error that we are overlooking, but extremely frustrated. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Open AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Extreme icon
Click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Now try the Base Station menu again

You need to select the "Manage My Account" link and not the "Reset Your Password" link.  Once you use the "Manage My Account" it will ask you to log in and in there you should see which email addresses are verified.

  • How do I move emailed photos to iPhoto with Lion? I've lost the drop down option.Karen

How do I move emailed photos to iPhoto using Lion? I've lost the previous drop down option.
    Thank you, Karen

There are multiple ways. I am not at my Lion machine at the moment, so I am not sure I can remember them all, but here is one: Click on the "Details" button in the upper right corner of the message. If there are image attachments, the drop down menu should appear.
Or, try right click on the image. I think I saw "Add to iPhoto" in the contextual menu.

Turning the Menu Bar on and off is a new feature in version 3.6.

<u>''Windows'' Method 1.</u> '''''Hold down''''' the key and press the following letters in this exact order: V T M
<u>''Windows'' Method 2.</u> Press and release the key. The Menu Bar will be displayed; then choose ~~red:V~~iew > ~~red:T~~oolbars and click on ~~red:M~~enu Bar.
The Menu Bar should now be displayed permanently, unless you turn it off again using View > Toolbars. Check mark = displayed, NO check mark = not displayed.

  • I have lost all of my bookmarks from the drop-down menu. It says it is empty, but never have I deleted them. And when I bookmark a page it does not save it. Please help

    Question
I have lost all of my bookmarks from the drop-down menu. It says it is empty, but never have I deleted them. And when I bookmark a page it does not save it. Please help

    Ok this is bizzare!
Thank you for your response, I went throught each and every step without any luck, even got the recovery programme, and painstakingly tried to sift through all that mumbojumbo to find what i needed. finally found the bookmark bit, but it had been fully overwritten :(, so on reading about previous ff versions, found the sqlite thingys, and they were relatively unscathed(partly written over, but saveable apparently TG), saved them to adiff drive, amongst other possibly good folders. Then looked up how to install them, and it said to close FF, and install to profile folder.
So i tried to close FF, and the original problem from a few days ago, where it asked me if 'i was sure i wanted to close this window as it has X tabs open', popped up again. This is where 'open blank page' selection was set, over 'open previous tabs'. Wanting to save that info on how to sort out these friggin files, I reset the Option to 'open previous tabs', and closed FF. After unsucessfully searching for the profile folder on my laptop, i opened FF intending to search online for where i could find said folder.
AND BANG, surprise surprise, the FF I had just closed with only tabs open about finding out what the heck to do, had disappeared, and instead my original saved tabs were up, and my bookmarks are there..... I am gobsmacked! what the heck just happened there???
I have made 3 back up in different folders now, of those friggin bookmarks. I am weary now tho of shutting it all down.... what if its back to the other pages I had with no bookmarks, tomorrow :(
