Airport Express worked with previous ADSL modem, not working with new one

hello all.
maybe the majority of you people won't be able to help me, since i am in Brazil.
this is the story:
for the last 4 years i was a subscriber of the Speedy ADSL provider (in conjunction with the Terra content provider). the Sppedy service is part of the Telefonica telephone company and uses the regular telephone infrastructure to provide the ADSL signal thru telephone lines.
approximately 2 years ago i bought an Airport Express and set it up with the ADSL modem that Speedy provided to me. configuration was a breeze and it worked flawlessly since then.
as of last thursday (april 7th) i became a subscriber of the Ajato ADSL provider. the Ajato company is part of the TVA (cable tv) company and uses the TVA cable tv infrastructure to provide the ADSL signal.
the problem is: when i connect the Cisco DPC3000 ADSL modem to my Macbook via ethernet cable, i can surf the internet with Ajato with no problems. but when i connect the modem to my Airport Express (even though i have reset AE in order to clear the previous Speedy/Terra configuration), i get no internet in my home wireless network.
i know you guys don't have Ajato there, of course. but i suppose some of you might have faced similar problems in similar cable ADSL environments.
this said, any kind of help or hint is greatly appreciated.

First that Cisco DPC3000 is a cable modem, not a ADSL modem. You probably don't need the DSL configuration that you had before.
when i connect the modem to my Airport Express (even though i have reset AE in order to clear the previous Speedy/Terra configuration), i get no internet in my home wireless network.
How did you "reset" the AE? How is it configured now? You probably need a setting of "Connect Using:" "Ethernet", rather than the "PPPoE" setting you may have had before.
If everything else looks good, it's common to have to reset a modem when switching what device is connected to it. Try powering down the modem for a few minutes. If it has a reset switch, press that.

  • Airport Express w/ 3Com 11g ADSL modem, wireless router

    Hello all,
I have been tring to set up my Airport Express with my 3Com ADSL modem and wireless router all-in-one using WDS.
Initially while experimenting the express was showing up in the Airport Admin Utility, I tried a few settings and it does not show up anymore. The amber light keeps blinking and thats that!
Is there anyway I can reset the airport express? Also, how should I use it to extend the range of my wireless connection through out my home?
Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Also, how should I use it to extend the range of my wireless connection through out my home?
You can't wirelessly. The 3Com is not compatible with Apple's WDS which is the method for using the AirPort Express to wirelessly extend a network.
You can do it by connecting your AirPort Express via Ethernet to the 3Com.

  • Airport express light is green but is not working

My airport express is on,light is green, all of my computers see it though Airport Utility however the computer that is 2 feet away has no internet abilities. It however see the house network, sign in but no not able to communicate with other house computers as well as the internet. 'The lights are on but no one is at home'

If all the other computers can connect to the Internet, try power cycling your entire network.
Power everyhing down on the network...all devices, order is not important
Wait a moment, then start the modem first and let it run a moment by itself
Then start your AirPort Express the same way
Continue starting the devices the same way until everything is back up
Check for Internet connections on all devices
    Please post on your results

  • Airport Express WiFi network MAC address filtering not working

I have an Airport Express WiFi network which I bought and installed new in 2011. Initially I enabled MAC address access control and populated a list. It was working perfectly, I know, because a niece visiting tried to connect her iPhone and could not until  I added its MAC address to the allowed list. Now however, anyone can connect without being added to the list. I think I read somewhere that a recent firmware update permanently disabled MAC filtering in Airport Express, even when it was previously working? Can anyone enlighten me about what's going on here?

In a sense those are/were/should operate as two separate functions, which they did before recently.
They do operate as two separate functions.....but it all depends on how you have the default rule setup in Timed Access.
If the default rule in Timed Access is set to No Access.......then a wireless device cannot connect....even it has the password for the network.....unless it has been setup on the list of allowed devices in Timed Access.
I have checked this 3 times this evening to verify. It works as it always has, and as expected.
If the default rule in Timed Access is set to Unlimited, then any device can connect to the network if it has the password. Devices that are listed or specified in Timed Access will be allowed to connect at the specific times that have been set up for each device.
So, if you want to use the more traditional MAC Access Control settings, the default rule has to be set to No Access and then you must set up a rule for each device that you want to allow to connect to the network. Only devices on the Timed Access list will be allowed to connect to the network. Other devices will not be able to connect to the network....even if they have the correct password.
If a recent firmware update has changed things from what they have always been.....then I am not affected....and I should be if I am using the same firmware as others.

  • Airport express 802.11 solid green but not working

My airport express has been working for several months but will not now.
I bought it to extend our internet to the upstairs as it was too far from out
    internet location.
I have restarted it and moved to different outlets upstairs, but it will not work.
It goes through all the proper color changes and is solid green now. I can stand next
to it and there is no connection.

Did you happen to firmware update the main router?? That seems to cause the issue. Or even the express will cause it.. there is a new firmware just hit the web.. 7.6.4 so if you vaguely remember doing it .. or see the main router is now running 7.6.4.. that is why.
Reset everything to factory and start over.. that is the best way to get things running again.

Even if the update didn't go through.. still do the factory reset and reconfigure.. it will all come good.

  • ZTE AC2792 USB Modem Not working in RV215W

    Dear Sir/Madam
    Greeting's from Udayraj Rokad.
I am Udayraj Rokad form India. I have RV215W Router of cisco. Recently i buy ZTE AC2792 USB Modem from MTS service provider company. But When i attached with router that modem not working because of USB module file . Please update and send us ZTE AC2792 USB module file so we can use that modem and enjoy internet speed .

Hi Udayraj.  Unfortunately, cellular Internet access here in the US is not as prevalent as it is there in India.  Hence, there probably won't be any update to the router anytime soon.  My suggestion would be to use a supported usb modem or to get a different router to connect to the modem and then connect that router to the rv215.  Good luck!

  • Is there a real benefit between airport express and extreme if you do not have the platforms with ac norm?

Is there a real benefit between airport extreme vs express if your pc is not in the same ac norm?

Not a lot, unless you plan to connect to the AirPort using a wired Ethernet connection, or connect a hard drive to the AirPort.
The Ethernet ports on the AirPort Extreme are 10 times faster than the ports on an Express. You can connect a hard drive to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme. You can't on the AirPort Express.
There are more wireless antennas in the "new" AirPort Extreme and they are located up at the top of the "tower". That might improve things a bit as well.

  • Anyone recommend an ADSL modem for use with iChatAV?

    Hi,
I have recently bought an iSight to run with my iBook 700mhz & 1mbps Broadband connection, and intend to get an airport express shortly.
I have accepted that I must ditch my current Netgear DM602 Modem/Router because it simply wont work with iChatAV no matter what you do with the ports.. and trust me I have fiddled extensively.
I was thinking of Airport Express because the Airtunes sounds pretty cool and it's also one more Apple link in the chain which further reduces native connectivity conflicts..
Anyway. I am looking to get a new ADSL modem that is all but garunteed to work well with iChatAV (using my iSight) and Airport Express..
I have searched the net but cant find anything terribly useful.
Does anyone out there have a good reliable - not too expensive - ADSL modem that works with that setup that they can recommend?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!
    SW

    Hey,
No Firewalls running no.. Well no software ones, just the hardware one in the DM602.
Incidentally I managed to find another DM602 user who said to me that the Modem / Router in 'Modem Only' mode works fine.. just using the Airport Express/Extreme set up as the router.
Will have to wait and see once I have bought the Airport Express as Modem Only mode without another Router caused me all kinds of confusion and left me unable to connect to the net or even to the Modem/Router directly when I was fiddling around with it.
But yeah, I agree that it's odd that Mac make everything else BUT the modem to connect to an ADSL line.. and then recommend rubbish 3rd party hardware that wont allow it's customers to use it's own well designed software..
Bit annoying.. you try and be a good Mac disciple and model consumer - Mac all the way, and still run into grief..

This is the exact document i have followed.
    Sample Configurations
DSL Router With Built-In Modem - DHCP
o DHCP and DSL requires you to get a pppoe password and username from your ISP. Most ISPs have a homepage where you can register to get the username and password, ask customer service for the URL. You should substitute this username and password for PPP "username" and "password" listed below.
o Cisco IOS doesn't support DHCP DSL and NAT. If this is so, then putting an Internet accessible web server on your home network would be impossible using the routers mentioned above in this configuration.
o Here is a sample configuration for a Cisco home router. Some of the commands listed are part of Cisco's default settings. Do the "show run" command before starting to configure your router to see what commands you'll really need.
o Remember to be in "config" mode to enter these commands and remember to do a "write memory" at the end to permanently save the configuration

  • Connect airport express to Thomson GT782T router modem

I have a non Mac router and modem. I cannot get my Airport Express to connect either wirelessly or by attaching ethernet cable directly to DSL modem. Can anyone help?

Just to clarify, the "modem and router" you mentioned in your first message is the GT782T, right?
Assuming it is, and assuming you've got your ISP username and password to hand:
While the manual for your modem (the GT782T) doesn't go into quite enough detail for me to give you complete step by step instructions, essentially what you need to do is to log into the GT782T and hunt around for an option to switch it into something called bridge mode. This should essentially stop it from acting as a router and instead allow the Airport Express to do that instead, though t's important to be aware that until you do the next part, your internet connection won't work.
Once you've enabled bridge mode on the GT782T you'll then need to connect it to the Airport Express via the WAN port, then open Airport Utility, select it, click Edit, then on the Internet tab, click the dropdown next to Connect Using and select PPPoE, entering your ISP username in the Account Name box, and the password in, er, the password box, then click Update. The Airport Express should restart, and hopefully come back online with your internet connection in toe .

  • Modem not working in T61p

    Hi
I have a problem with getting my modem to work on my Lenovo.
It can't dial any numbers and does not even attempt to before telling me that it failed.
The driver version i have installed is  7.70.0.0 from 2007. There is a later version available for download but the installer fails on that one every time while copying files and stalls so i have to kill it and after that my cpu usage goes up to about 50%  because of mmc.exe.
If i try to remove my modem from the unit manager before installing the new driver the removing process dies after a few sec so that is not an sollution eighter.
The modem test in "lenovo thinkvantage toolbox" shows that all tests except for the "modemloopback" test is OK
What else can i do to get this thing working?
    Thanks

    smf, welcome to the forum,
    it's been a while since I played with modems, but here goes. Please try the following;
in Control Panel > Phone and Modem please select the modems tab, ensure the modem is highlighted and then click on properties at the botton of the window. Select again the modem tab and then remove the "tick" in Dial control next to the message "wait for dial tone before dialling."
    Hope this helps
