Airport not connecting computer to speakers

a few days ago, i had troubles connecting my computer to my airport express, but after unplugging it for a while and plugging it back in, it began working again.
but, since then, whenever i try and play music through iTunes/airport express (through my stereo amplifier), all that comes out of the speakers is a low hum. any advice?

It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference that has been introduced recently in the immediate area that is preventing you from getting a good clean signal.
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like MacStumbler or iStumbler to determine potential areas of interference, and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them where possible.

  • Airport not connecting computer to internet

my airport express was connecting my computer to the internet fine 2 hours ago, but suddenly, it stopped. i tried connecting my computer directly to the modem, and i am able to connect to the internet, so i'm figuring something is odd w/ the airport (the power light for the airport goes on when you plug it into the wall, so it's not that it completely died). any suggestions?

    There are several possibilities:
    (1) the "it was a glitch" category. Perhaps your ISP dropped their connection, and it started up again just before you plugged your Mac directly into the modem. Perhaps your ISP reset your connection (yes, they do that sometimes). Perhaps some heavy radio interference started up (a portable phone, microwave oven, neighboring wireless network,...) which knocked off your wireless connection.
    (2) a true hardware failure of the Airport Express, or the wireless interface on your Mac.
Connect up your Airport Express again - and confirm it shows a solid green status light (may take a minute). Then see if your Mac "sees" its wireless network. If it does, then try to connect and see what happens. Let us know how this all turns out.

When I launch iTunes on the PC, iTunes will not connect to Airplay speakers. Only after a new start of iTunes a connection is established.

Thank you for the suggestion, but the 'clean' install of iTunes (which I did twice) didn't do the trick.
    Anybody else have a clue?
I spoke with Apple Care, who was also stumped. They think it might be a hardware issue (but were probably just giving up on working with me because it was free service/I haven't paid the $50). Still seems awfully coincidental that my Airport (1st Gen - about 4 years old) would stop being able to stream music through iTunes simultaneously with the iTunes update...

  • Itunes will not connect to remote speakers attached to Airport Express

I have just bought an AX for the specific purpose of streaming music to a new mini hi fi.
I have added AX to my existing wireless network without problem. Firmware updated. Latest itunes and OS.
Itunes sees the speakers attached to AX but will not connect. I keep getting "An error occurred while connecting to the remote speaker......An unknown error occurred (-15000).
I have updated all software, reset AX and started all over again. I have given the speakers a password.
I also try and connect using my iphone 3GS - latest software. It also sees the speakers. I get no error message but nothing plays.
Help please. I have set this up as a gift for friends and I am leaving tomorrow.

    try the following:
    1) Open System Preferences
    2) Open Network pane
    3) Select Airport in the left list
    4) Click the Advanced button
    5) Go to the TCP/IP tab
    6) Set the "Configure IPv6" field to Off.
    7) Click "OK"
    8) Click "Apply"
    9) Let iTunes connect to your AirTunes speakers

  • Airport not connecting...not working

A few days ago, (what seemed like) the power supply went on my Time Capsule.  I found this very disappointing to see the product fail like that.  Since then, I connected my wireless network through my Airport Express.  It worked for a few days, and then lost connection to the internet.  It still has a power supply, but it won't connect.  Now it is just blinking orange (even though when it lost connection, it was solid green).  I have had to take the ethernet cable out of it and connect directly to my computer.
The Airport Express is still plugged in and is now still blinking orange.  I say now, because, even when it was solid green, it wasn't allowing my computer to connect to the internet.  I have gone through just about every troubleshooting step imaginable, including resetting my cable modem and calling my cable company, Airport Utility....  Every time I use Airport Utility and try to connect to my network, it tells me either there was a "connection timeout" or that it failed to connect and that I need to make sure the network name or password are correct (they are correct).  Now I can't get the Airport Express to stop blinking orange, or to stay green.  In fact, I can't seem to do anything to get my computer to recognize it.  It is as though it is invisible, so it won't even let me troubleshoot what is wrong with it.  What happened to the days where "Apple" was just so darn easy?
At this point, I really don't know what to do and I am starting to lose a little faith in Apple products.
What am I missing here to get this thing corrected?

Hi, I have a very similar problem, and I can not find a solution:
I have an Intel iMac and Im using a BT Voyager 2091 as my router.
The router is set up and working with my PC.
Airport is recieving the signal from the router but when I open Safari it is saying I am not connected to the internet.
I then plugged the Ethernet cable from the router to the iMac and I got the internet straight away. I am sure the problem is with airport and I have tried many different things to get it working but still no luck.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

  • Airport not connecting automatically

Whenever I restart or wake-up my computer, I find Airport has turned off. Then when I try to turn it on from the menu icon, most times it just switches back off again. Usually it stays on the second time I click it. Also then it doesn't automatically connect to my known networks, even though I have it set up to do this. It first has to scan for the network, then when I click the network it usually connects, but every now and then will ask me for WPA password again. I know it's not a train smash, but it's quite annoying.

    Hello Runs...
Nero Wolfe is right about updating the router firmware. And if that doesn't do the trick, try this:
    • Open KeyChain Access
    • Delete any entries for your preferred wireless network
    • Open System Preferences -> Network
    • You are probably using a location called Automatic.
    • Click on Assistant -> Assist Me
    • Enter the Location Name AirportOnly (no space)
    • Select I use AirPort to connect to the internet wirelessly
    • Follow instructions to connect to your wifi network
    • Be sure to Click the check box for Remember this Network, and
    • Be sure to click Always Allow when it asks if you want to access the password in your keychain.
    • Shutdown and restart the computer
    • Open System Preferences -> Network
    • Make sure you are now using the Location you created above (AirportOnly)
    • On the left side of the window, click on every connection except the Airport and delete the connection using the minus sign at the bottom of the window
    • Click on Advanced. At this point you should only have one network in the preferred networks window. If there is more than one, delete any networks you are not actually using, and drag your primary wifi network to the top of the list.
    • Remove the checkmark from Disconnect from wireless networks ... and
    • Remove the checkmark from Require Administrator password to control Airport.
    • Click OK
    • Click Apply.
    • Shut down the computer and restart.
    hope that helps.

  • Airport not connecting

Having a problem with my airport, cannot connect to the internet wirelessly. It is not a distance problem as a laptop sitting right next to it registers three out of five bars and works perfectly. Been having this problem for several months, at first the connection was just dropping off and not working on occasion but every softwear update since then seems to have made it worse and worse. Now my internet does not work at all although it seems to pick up the signal but not connect. Any help fixing this would be appreciated, have tried a number of fixes and been through every used every help tool for connection issues available in the network preferences menu. I have several other issues with this mac however I use it for work and cannot afford for it to be away for repair at the moment. My other issues include dead pixels, optical eye doesn't work (cannot read any type of disc, DVD, softwear disc, CD you name it) And some form of leakage on the top left hand side of the screen that cases a shadow on the display. Has anyone else had problems like this? I love this mac like a baby so its not a chase of rough handling or not looking after it properly. This is my first mac and I can honestly say I am very disappointed by the quality of the product after all the good things I've heard about apple.

    hi,
your problem is not with the airport, it is how you have configured it,you need to check system pref. and make sure you eleminate all security first, you can do this also in the internet connection app as well, this sounds like a firewall issue/

  • Airport not connecting 2nd computer

HI there I have an iMac G5 and my brother has an iMac G4, We had previously both been able to connect to the internet via the Airport. My brother recently had to reboot the computer as he was having problems. Now he cannot connect to the internet at all via the airport. The modem and airport are next to my mac. On my brothers G4 it now keeps asking for a password which we cannot remember. Is there a way of retrieving this password? If anyone can help it would be of much help.

Hi ok we got it fixed sum how but as my brothers comp is a very old G4 iMac he had to wipe the comp and reinstall all the programs etc. Now it's all back on there etc etc. However we are having the same problem with the wireless internet connection. My G5 is fine however when he attempts to connect it constantly asks for a password. I have rest the airport extreme equipment and still no luck with connection for the G4! It was working fine earlier. I have tried to look for a 'change password' button but cant find it. It asks for an admin password which i have typed in and it works fine on mine. But doesn't on the G4! The G4 is on OSX 10.3.1 and has got a pending update to 10.3.9 will downloading and updating to this be of any use? HELP!!!

  • ITunes can not connect to remote speakers after upgrades

I recently downloaded the new version of iTunes and I am no longer able to connect to my remote speakers. I get a random error message when trying to connect. I've rebooted the airport station and modem. Didn't solve the problem.
    Can anyone help? I'm stumped...

I have a MacBook, airport express and appletv. All three were working with airtunes on itunes 7 without issue. Since itunes 8, airport express works great, but the itunes keeps reporting that my appletv speakers are no longer available.
Problem will occur on sleep/wakeup and whenever itunes decides it is angry, even though my appletv is listed on the bar and is syncing. Sometimes it will play for about 10 seconds and then the music stops, but itunes indicates it is still playing. Pause/play will sometimes resolve the issue, but other times will report the appletv speakers have disappeared, but itunes is still listing the apple tv. Rebooting appletv makes no difference.
Workaround has been to restart itunes. For the music stopping after 10 seconds, if restarting itunes results in the same problem, reboot computer. My firewall is disabled, so my opinion .
Also - I love the remote app on my touch, but when play fails due to a speaker error there is no feedback. Instead I get no music and after a delay the icon changes from pause to play again. Of course itunes was complaining about unavailable speakers. Someone should add some intelligence to report such errors to the remote.

  • ITunes able to see but not connect to Remote Speakers

I currently have an issue with connecting to my remote speakers from my Intel Mini within my house.
The Mini is running OS X Server 10.5.6 with all updates, and the latest iTunes.
It is able to see the Remote Speakers, but on attempting to select them, it defaults back to "Computer"
If I play music, it will play with the attached speakers via the headphone jack.
The AP Express is at the other end of the house, joined to the wireless network and is able to be connected to from my MBP either cabled into the Time Capsule like the Mini or via Wireless on either the TC or Router.
Using the iPhone, its possible to select the Remote Speakers on the Mini but it won't play, however selecting the Remote Speakers on the MBP will allow it to play
See the below diagram for an overview of how things are setup.
The Mini has been rebooted, cables checked and I have repaired the permissions.
It is also able to connect into the AP Express via the Airport Utility and reconfigure the device.
    Any Ideas?

Same prob today while making some network changes... 1st thing i did was connect an old time machine drive to my airport extreme, then realized 70 GB should be transfered through USB cable instead of the network. In the same process was trying to implement an old NAS hard drive on the network through my Airport Extreme as well... so i made a few configuration changes and started uploading files through the USB cable in Time Machine... That is when i noticed the same problem everyone else is dealing with. It seemed like I had a very slow internet connection and some network congestion. I spent hours reconfiguring the Airport changes I had made and investigating this problem on line.
Here is the good news! I waited for the Time Machine backup to finish and I also removed the NAS drive from the network and it seems to be working again. Back to square one with the hard drives but my Airtunes work again and my network congestion is gone! I hope this helps some of you.

  • Airport Not connecting untill I repair Disc Permissions

Out of the blue, this morning my PC does not want to connect to my Belkin Wireless Router when I switch on. This has never been a problem up until this morning. It sees the network but cannot connect (exclamation mark). I repair permissions and it connects as it starts to run...every time!.
Shut down the computer and I have to do the same. There seems to be a lot of permissions being repaired, all iTunes as far as I can see. But the repair is not holding and every time I reboot, I have to do the same again.
    iMac 27" 3.4GHz Intel Core i7, 12Gb RAM (1333MHz DDR3), running 10.8.5 OS X, all software up to date.

Do SMC reset if you haven't already. Since upgrading to 10.8.5 OS.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
Then you can try some of the tricks suggested by Tesserax but if it extends to other permissions like iTunes then maybe there is a more major fault.

  • Airport not connecting to Internet, but I can connect directly

Hi - My Airport Extreme (4th Generation) suddenly popped up and told me it was reporting problems.  I cannot remember exactly what the issue was, but I think it was something with the IP address.   (sorry, I know that's not helpful.)  Since then I have talked with my ISP, found I can directly connect via the ethernet, and wiped the Airport back to factory settings.  Any suggestions?  I can connect to the Airport, but it doesn't go out to the Internet.  Again, it's not the ISP, because I can connect with the Ethernet.  Thanks!

A little more info - I remembered the error had to do with Bridge mode, telling me I had to either turn it on or off.  And the current issue is that it does not have an IP address???  But I see an IP address on there - it's not pulling it from the modem???  Thanks!

  • Airport not connecting to Internet

    Hi
I have an Airport network using WPA personal encryption. I've set the mac to log onto my network when booted which it does. When I try to access the Internet, it won't connect. When I check 'Internet Connect' it says that i am logged onto the network, but not the Internet. When i also check airport admin, my airport express does not show up in the window, even after rescanning.
I have to turn off the Airport, then turn it back on again, select my network and after about 20 seconds it says, 'Connected to (my network)" " Connected to the Internet via Ethernet".
I have a windows machine sharing my network which has no problems (which pains me to say!).
Any ideas how to solve this.
    Thanks
