Albums lumped together in coverflow

Not sure if this has been discussed or not, but I realized recently that albums with the same name i.e. "Greatest Hits" albums show up perfectly fine in list form, but are all lumped together under one album name in coverflow. Usually the band that is first alphabetically. I reported it to apple feedback. Just trying to be informative. Hopefully solved with next update.

Dealing with your last sentence first, when you installed Mavericks it should have left iMovie 9 in a folder in your applications folder assuming you had imovie 9 installed.  When you update projects created in iMovie 9 to imovie 10 it leaves the iMovie 9 projects and events folder intact so you can still work in imovie 9.
All iMovie 9 projects on update get tranferred to the same "updated projects" event but you can more them to other events or to new events as you wish.  I am puzzled why they don't show names - are the project names completely blank?
Did you have a "#" in any of the project names?   This causes problems

  • I downloaded 2 albums and it mixed the album songs together

I downloaded 2 albums and it mixed the album songs together.  The songs are not in the right albums and some are not in the albums at all.

  • Keeping album tracks together

This topic is a little hard for me to explain but I'll try my best.
I'm cleaning my library and found a couple of songs I wanted to put together in one album, three tracks from the Jet Set Radio game on Xbox. So I put them all in an album called Jet Set Radio. Trouble is when I view it in either Grid or Cover Flow mode, it separates one of the tracks out as an album called J.S.R, then the other two tracks together in a second album called J.S.R. The weird thing is, two of the tracks are by Artist A and one of them is Artist B. But it's taken one of the Artist A tracks and put it in the solo album, them lumped A and B together in the second. If that makes sense...
I've tried EVERYTHING to meld the three together. They're under the same folder in the library, they all have the same cover art, marking then a compilation, marking them a gapless album...they all have the same information in every field, expect for the track title and the artist fields.
    What have I done wrong?

Fixed it. Had to scrutinize every track listed + the info to find the little blip.

  • Keep album stacked together by album artist, in a library sorted by artist?

I have my iTunes library sorted after “Artist”. Which gives me nothing but trouble with collections or collaborations.
So what I would like to do is have iTunes to ignore the default or general sorting by “Artist”. And instead sort only this album by “Album Artist”.
I have 12 songs with the same album title, same genre, same album artist but with different song names and artist.
But regardless of how I try to tell iTunes that it has to sort this one by album artist and not the artist, it never does.
I have tried at select all the 12 songs, get info. Write the same Albums Artist, the same Album Title and leave the Artist blank. And I choose sort by Album Artist and under option I choose part of a collection.
But this isn’t working for me, As soon I go back to my library, which sorted by Artist. The albums is still spread all over the place.
HOW DO I KEEP THESE 12 SONGS STACKED TOGETHER, without having to chance the Artist to Various Artists and write each individual artist to the song title?
Which in my opinion is the wrong and oldschool approach.

Yes, I have just checked and rechecked it again. I have set an Album Artist value for each songs and the album in general. And even if i add the Album by Artist to my list view and sort after that. It still acts up. It can't for some reason keep the correct collections together, eventhough they are set as a collection in options.
But i don't really, keeping collections together didn't used to be a problem before. But i will keep trying some different things. But it's pretty annoying, that iTunes has such trouble with this.
I really have a pretty tighty library, everything is named and set up correctly (haha, or apparently not).
    But thanks for the help.

  • Any other choices besides the portrait Album View or landscape Coverflow?

Is there a way to get the iPhone to display the Artist and song in something other than the 6 point font used to display the Artist/Song Title/Album while in the iPhone is in portrait orientation? It is hard to read with the gray and white fonts and nearly impossible to read in the car due to the small font size. The Coverflow display in landscape is fairly useless with the small font, the inability to display the correct artist information for compilations, and the fact that it does not always show the song that is currently playing?

  • Itunes not grouping the same album artist together

I have had a quick search but not found anyone talking about this issue, apologies if it has been mentioned before.
I have a number of albums that are mixed by DJs. I have set it up so the artists in each album reflect each individual song and the "album artist" is the name of the DJ. I have selected compliation and assigned an album cover. This works fine and each album is grouped together as one album as it should be. The problem is that iTunes doesn't seem to want to arrange these albums in the order of the album artist (ie. the DJ who mixed it).
If I order by "Album by artist" all these albums are placed at the end of the list and ordered by album name and not album artist. If I add the "album artist" category to the display and arrange by this, the albums get split up into individual songs - which is even worse!
Is there a way to get iTunes to sort these albums so they remain together as each album and are also arranged in order of the "album artist" so that eg. All albums mixed by DJ X appear first, followed by those mixed by DJ Y and finally those mixed by DJ Z?
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Grouping podcasts
A podcast series will split up in this way when its feed is moved to a new URL. Merging the series requires editing all the older episodes so that they appear to have come from the current feed. Download and install Mp3Tag (not sure of a Mac equivalent offhand). Use it to explore the Extended tags of podcasts from the same series. PODCASTURL (formerly ITUNESPODCASTURL) is used to link different podcasts from the same subscription (as opposed to fields like Album & Album Artist etc.) and PODCASTID (formerly ITUNESPODCASTID) determines the order. Everything else seems to be optional. Backup your files, tweak a few a tags then play each track briefly in turn. If iTunes still fails to notice the updated tags try my script UpdateTagInfo (Win).
As far as I'm aware the order is determined by the PODCASTID, but if you need/want to modify the Release Date then in MP3Tag/Extended Tags it corresponds to RELEASETIME in the format yyyy-mm-ddThh:mm:ssZ, e.g. 2008-02-20T09:10:52Z

  • ITunes 10 (Humpty Dumpty) - Getting albums back together again?

Why has iTunes 10 suddenly split compilation albums? Some tracks will not join back into the correct album, no matter how hard I try to shepherd them there. Some tracks do not have album art, when their siblings do.
I have tried selecting all tracks, selecting 'part of a compilation' and trying to get them sorting as one album, but alas, they will come back together again.
What has apple done? Any hints?

    turingtest2,
I read your link above and found it very helpful.  I do have a question regarding it.  I am not in front of my laptop with iTunes on it, so I will go from memory.
From what I recall, in iTunes 11.0.1 on my PC laptop, it seems to be organized as such that when I click on artist (left pane) I can see all albums by that artist including compilations that they are on.  This seems tidy and well from what I can recall.
On my iPhone, when I click on artists, not all of their albums show up, specifically, if the album is a "compilation" or they are part of a soundtrack.  When I click on albums on my iPhone, I can finally see the album that they are on.  Now, this is not true for all artists it seems as some of them show up (the compilation album) when I view by artist on my iPhone, so, slightly inconsistent.  It is very frustrating because some of the albums which are straighforward albums show up as compilations so I can't see them unless I click all albums on my iPhone and then know the speficic album I am looking for.
Regardless, like I said it all seems tidy in iTunes, however I would like to:
    1.  Be able to see all albums the artist is on on my iPhone
    2.  I am concerned that if I turn off group compilations that it will split up all these tracks and make a mess of my library.
    3.  In order to tidy this up, I entered Album Artists for some where albums were split up (tracks that have feat. or your example of Clapton however the track was by Cream) so that they all were grouped on the same album as they should be.
I guess my bottom line is, how do I see all the albums for each artist even if it is part if a compilation/soundtrack without messing up my iTunes since it seems fine now that I have altered album artists in some cases and in others, artists that are part of a compilation show up as seperate artists?
    Am I making sense?

  • Viewing Album Tracks In Fullscreen Coverflow

    Am I missing something?
Is there a way to view the tracks of a selected album while in the fullscreen mode of coverflow? Some kind of pulldown menu while clicking on the album cover art or something?
    Thanks for anything . . .

I'm guessing you had a compilation album there. Should you have difficulties with other albums see my previous post on Grouping Tracks Into Albums.

  • Speed up album art generation in coverflow...

Is there any way to speed up album art generation when you use coverflow on an ipod classic?... it seems to take forever on mine and i don't know if it is on everyone else's or just mine.

No. It's just a function of how quickly the iPod can read the info from the hard drive and how much can be stored in the cache. My experience has been if you scroll quickly, once you get 20 or 30 albums down, it reverts to place-holders until you stop and let it "catch up". Oh, and if you are listening to music while scrolling through coverflow, it's even slower (since the iPod is caching music as well).

  • One album, multiple covers in coverflow, why?

I just imported Bruce Springsteen's new cd. I didn't use iTunes originally, so when I imported them every single song showed up as it's own album in coverflow. I used the group info editor and rewrote the tags to make sure that everything was exactly the same. Why are they still showing up as different albums when they have the same name, artist, album artist, artwork, disc numbers, number of tracks...

i had the problem as well... don't know where it comes from... but i found a pretty good way to solve it...
at first type in an album artist for all titles of the album which should occur under one cover.
then just get all the titles in a compilation and save the settings.
after they had been in the compilation you can open the informationswindow again and get them out of the compilation again (just change the setting in the drop- down menu from compilation: "yes"... to compilation: "no" again...
it's not very elegant... but for me it worked out all the time up to now
    i hope it helps
sorry for my english.. since i'm german it's hard for me to explain it in english... if you cannot understand everything just ask again and i' ll try to explain it differently...:)

  • HT203167 Single CD to ITunes creates several albums. How can I combine to get album back together

Transferring a single CD to ITunes, I get 2 or 3 'albums', a couple containing only one or 2 songs from the CD. How in ITunes can I combine these separate 'albums' to get the complete album back under one? Or what do I need to do in "import" set up to make sure CD is imported as an album rather than by artist?

Generally all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.

  • Is it possible to sort a 2CD compilation album where each CD has a different "album artist" together as one album in iTunes?

I have an album which I am trying to sort correctly in iTunes.
It has 2CDs of tracks by various artists, it is set up as a 'compilation' and I have 'album artist' set up.
As far as I can see all the settings are correct, however CD1 is a compilation of tracks remixed by "artist A" and CD2 is a compilation of tracks remixed by "artist B" therefore  becasue each disc has a different album artist, the album is split into two seperate albums on album view.
Is there any way to get this to display as one album?
The album is released as "Artist A" so for now I have set that name as the 'album artist' for CD2 as well to get round it but would ideally like to have the second CD labelled correctly with the second artist's information.
I suppose I could also use "Arist A / Artist B" for both CDs but would prefer not to do this as well so that it would be grouped with other (solo) albums from these artists.
    Cheers for any help!

Your options are to treat this as one collective album by the joint Album Artists, or as two separate albums by them as individuals, or I suppose you could duplicate the entire album and do both.
