Albums Split Up When Importing

Hi,
Some albums I import into itunes get split up, when I look at the album artwork, so instead of one Album I get 18 single albums... Anyone else have this problem?

Edit the CD settings before ripping so the artist, album and album artist all agree. Some of the CDDB/Gracenote info is very odd.
Even if you have an album of Spanky Joe with 18 different guest artists (those "duet" albums come to mind here) you really don't want 18 different Joe Spanky & Jill Panky...X18... variations in your iPod or iTunes artist lists anyway. Yo can correct the CD info to whatever you want ahead of the rip (Tip: getting rid of "complications" is another fine idea.

  • Songs, albums etc blank when importing!

    You've gotta love iTunes..
The last couple of days iTunes refuses to add songs/albume/artist etc name when importing music. Sometimes buying music at work, bring it home to load it into my iTunes here. I am doing nothing to the album, just burning it as it is. When I get home I put the cd in and iTunes finds it through Gracenote and everything looks to be in order. But upon importing all info about every single track is gone. All I get is # 1,2,3,4,5,6 etc and so forth.
This is starting to make me angry. Any solutions out there?
PS; tried importing both as mp3 and with "apple lossless"
PS2; tried importing three times now, and track # 1 and 2 is there, as they should, but the rest of the 30 tracks are just numbers.

  • Keeping the album songs order, when importing songs from different sources

    Hello
I imported lots of songs into my itunes library from various sources (itunes store, CD's, and audio files converted from my vinyl records) This way, songs from a specific artist, and sometimes from a specific album, could come from different sources.
Now, I hope to arrange all the songs from a specific album to appear in the appropriate order, but I just can't find a way of doing this! The songs just appear in the way iTunes sorts them, without any relation to the original order of the album. Even more, in the iPod itself, the order changes once again with no appearant reason! (Interestingly enough, when I import all the songs of a specific album from one source, the order is kept)
I tried changing the names on the files in itunes to include serial numbers (01, 02 and so on, at the names of the songs). but then again, for some reason, no order is kept.
How can I sort the songs in the album according to the proper order? I don't want to use a special playlist for each album.
Thank you in advance for your replies
    Zak.

iTunes sorts things in thew following way (based on having the correct ID3 tag info)
Album > Disc number > Track Number
if you sort things by Album
iTunes does NOT take anything from the file name unless no ID3 tag info is present in the file, then you will see the file name appear as the track name and all other fields blank. ID3 tags are the way most meta-data is handled noawadays.
    Hope that helps.

  • Album details blank when importing.

When I insert a new music CD (i.e.; Sony BMG, etc.), iTunes obediently opens and blindly lists the tracks and times (track 01, X:XX, etc.) but no details.
Even the artwork (which I can't imagine a Sony BMG album not including) doesn't appear (even if highliting a track, etc.).
Seems like either I'm missing some iTunes setting or there's a bug that requires the user to (before importing) go to iTunes main window>files>get info before the (buggy?) program will list the track titles, etc. Only then does 'my' iTunes importing list details. Still failed to show the artwork (i.e.; The Best Of Mandy Moore)
Does everybodies iTunes do this? Surprise me and answer no.

You're never going to get the artwork from
    gracenotes/CDDB.
You can look it up yourself at places like amazon.com
or allmusic.com and cut/paste it into the song inof.
Or use Tag&Rename to get it automatically, free
    30-day trial.

Thanks. Been screenshotting the Music store album covers, pasting them into paint, cutting the album out, converting them to jpeg and importing them into the CD info window. A lot of effort, but I avoid amazon, ebay and all those weird places who want my ccard and personal info.

Generally setting a common Album Artist will fix things. For deeper problems see Grouping tracks into albums.

  • How do I maintain adobe photoshop albums when importing into ipad photo albums

How do I maintain the adobe photoshop albums when importing them into the ipad photo library?

Do these albums on the iPad have the cloud icon next to them? If they do, they are albums that you have previously purchased from iTunes. You can remove them from the Music app by going to Settings>iTunes &App Store>Show All>Music>Off.

  • Cannot drag and drop to Albums when importing photos

When you import images to Photos, you cannot drag and drop the photos to any of your albums.  What was Apple thinking by eliminating this organization feature that has been part of iPhoto since 1.0?  For example, when you import photos from your SD card (from your DLSR camera), you cannot drag and drop the photos to an album (when you have view sidebar selected).  If you select all the images, Photos for OS X will not let you drag and drop them anywhere.  Clicking on the selected photos to drag them will only de-select the photo you are hovering over.  How stupid is that?  How can Apple call that photo management?  People organize photos in Albums, but Photos for OS X only wants you to dump them into the program without any organization.  In order to drop the photos into an album, you have to import the photos and then click on Last Import.  Then select all the photos from that location, and then you can drag and drop them into an album.  Totally stupid.

Solution may be found if you search in the "More Like This" section over in the right column.

  • No seperate albums created when importing folders containing photos

Hi ... Need some help here please..
When importing folders containing photos in iPhoto each folder would be made into an Event. When I do the same with Photos all my pictures are placed into Albums  - All Photos. No separate Albums are made for each folder, all pictures are mixed up together.
    Why is Photos doing this?
(Im not importing from iPhoto ... New Mac)

    Simon
Yes it does say that, but I have to say that a significant number of people can't get that to work, and I've never found an adequate reason why.
I recommend that you begin to import at the bottom of your hierarchy. Drag to the left hand pane and iPhoto will create a Roll and and album of the same name. You can then create the enclosing folders in iPhoto: (File -> New Folder).

Also check to make sure the Album Artist is the same for all tracks (in itunes on teh computer). Aslo check the Music app to see if you are sorting by Album Artist (its under Other on the menu bar at the bottom of the screen).

  • Can I force iTunes NOT to create artist/album folders when importing?

I've unchecked the "Let iTunes organize your music" box. All I want is to have iTunes rip the song, and place the song (unburdened by artist and album folders) in an external hard drive.
I can't seem to make that happen - can iTunes do it? If not, any Mac-based program you can recommend?
    Thanks.

Can I force iTunes NOT to create artist/album folders when importing?
    No.
Just RIP it and drag it from the main iTunes screen to wherever you want it.

  • Albums split up in new grid view on itunes 8

when browsing my albums in the new grid tab of itunes, some of my albums are split up into their own separate album. for example the "august rush" album i purchased from itunes is split into twelve different albums. how do i combine those songs so all the songs are in one album slot?
i have already changed the "sort album by" to "title" in the "view" tab.
any suggestions and i would really appreciate it

    *Grouping tracks into albums*
Excuse the long post, but hopefully covering all the bases (that I can think of) will help you fix the other issues you are likely to run into as you try to organise your library.
The iPod (and iTunes to a lesser extent) conflates two or more albums with the same title, most obviously with *Greatest Hits*. On the iPod this can result in one album acting as a combination of two or more. Selecting any cover gives all the tracks of all albums with the same title. The workaround for this "Greatest Hits" bug is to give each album a unique title - I tend to go for *Album - Album Artist* as this reads clearly in the iTunes browser. Alternatively you could use the wording as it appears on the cover, append different numbers of spaces for each different album or set different values for the Sort Album.
iTunes relies on the Gracenote CDDB database when identifying CD's. This often marks collections or anthologies of an artist's work as a compilation. In iTunes, however, the compilation flag has the logical function of grouping together tracks with the same album name, but different artists on each track, e.g. "Now That's What I Call Metal 666!". These compilations are then all grouped together at the end of cover flow. Most of us however, would expect "Greatest Hits" albums to be listed with the other albums by the same album artist. For albums which are essentially by a single album artist or group it is best to set the appropriate value for the album artist and clear the compilation flag.
Sadly the iPod ignores the Album Artist field when grouping albums which causes problems when some tracks list guest artists. You can simply mark the entire album as a compilation which seems to be the way iTMS handles it, however that's not an ideal fix. Short of waiting for Apple to address this issue (and as far as I can tell it goes back to the 1st gen. of iPods) we need a workaround. What I do is to put any additional artist info. in square brackets after the song name. E.g. *Track \[Feat. Guest\]* and then set *Artist=Album Artist* for each track. For anthologies where the Album Artist is credited as part of another group, e.g. for Cream tracks on an Eric Clapton anthology, I use *Track \[As Group\]*. For a track where the main Album Artist doesn't receive a credit, e.g. the first track of the Slim Shady LP credited to Jeff Bass, I just set the track name to *Track \[Guest\]* while still setting the artist to the album artist. N.b. I use square brackets to indicate this is information about the track rather than part of the song title and also use this style for Mix/Live/Bonus info.
iTunes may split albums into two or more sections if some tracks from the album have different values for Artist, Album Artist, Album, No. of Discs or Part of a Compilation. Tiny differences such as trailing spaces, accented characters or variants of symbols can sometimes be quite hard to spot. The iPod is also more sensitive to case variations and may split or reorder an album that looks okay in iTunes. Normally overtyping the desired value for each shared field will complete the grouping of the album into one entity. Occasionally, however, this method seems to fail. When this happens I've found that you can force every field to update properly by adding some extra text - e.g. a trailing X, which once applied seems to complete the joining of the tracks into one album. Once this has happened the extra data can be removed and the album should remain properly grouped.
The Sort Artist, Sort Album & Sort Album Artist fields can be used to override the normal sort order. For example iTunes automatically drops leading prepositions (a/an/the) so "The Beatles" are arranged under "B" instead of "T". Occasionally different tracks from the same album can have different values in these sort fields which can also break up the grouping. Making the sort columns visible in iTunes can help with spotting & correcting such problems.
Multi-disc albums are often listed as *Album (CD1)* for CD 1, *Album (CD2)* for CD 2 etc. To display these properly using just one cover, each disc should have the correct *Disc X of Y* values set, and then the entire album should be given the single title Album. Being somewhat obsessive I also renumber the tracks sequentially, working backwards from the last track until I reach disc 1.
With classical music you also need to be wary of alternative representations of artist/composers names. The menus will work best if for each composer you standardise on just one form of their name. E.g. make a choice between Mozart, W.A. Mozart or Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and then apply it consistently. I tend also to use the Composer as the Artist & Album Artist and either discard performer details or place these into the Description field. (I’d use Comments but iTunes has a habit of writing long hex strings into it for no readily apparent reason).

  • Error message when importing CD's into iTunes.

I've just started getting an error message when importing audio CD's into itunes. +"Error occured while converting the file "........". The disk could not be read from or written to."+ I've been importing CDs for years now and this just started happening last night. The disk image shows up on the desktop, itunes opens and recognizes the disk and searches the database and finds the artist/track names/album etc. Then when I click the import button, I get this message. If I click on the disk image in the desktop and click on a specific file it will play through iTunes. No new changes except for maybe downloading the latest iTunes update. Any suggestions? Thank you very much in advance.

Every time I import a CD, mp3 is louder then AAC. It's just every so often if I try AAC the volume will be really low. Like barely hearable. Maybe it has to with the fact the CD was released long before AAC format was around? Something to do with compatibility maybe?
Iron-Mike, MP3 and AAC were both invented well after CD audio and both algorithms are well aware of CD format. Make sure you have "Soundcheck" settings turned on both for iTunes playback and for CD burning. iTunes Soundcheck is supposed to normalize the volumes in spite of variations in the files. Many people have noticed that they don't really work very well, but having them on is better than nothing.

  • Is the prores file that FCPx creates when importing c300 .mxf files stable/quality enough to then copy to other drives for further use? Are there any quality disadvantages to doing that?

Im wondering if I can directly copy the prores files fcpx creates when importing c300 .mxf files from the "original media" folder, reimport them for another project to and use them that way. Is there any problem with working that way? I'm doing this bc I want to have an organize finder structure for a client but cant break the c300 card structure to split clips on a card into different "scenes" to make it easier for them to understand what they're looking at. This is all to stay NLE nuetral--we like fcpx but they might want to edit somewhere else and more details in the finder level seems like the best solution? Suggestions on any of that? Thanks.

Thanks for your response. Are you sure that FCPx is working with .mxf/c300 natively? I thought it was just a background sort of repackaging or transcode into prores that it does without you having a choice? And bc of that, for me, it's sort of a "back end" feeling file: I'm curious if it's bad to get into the package contents folder to copy it over? Not about copying prores in general-- specifically, is the prores created of c300 footage in fcpx more of a fcpx, high quality alias file? Maybe I'm just feeling a little uncomfortable grabbing things from the inside/finder level of fcpx.

I want to dump them all in one project in Aperture, but after selecting the iPad from the import source list, it grays out the options to select the destination.
