Alert Volume Keeps Setting Itself to 0%

Every hour or two applications like iChat will become silent, and under System Prefs > Sound > Sound Effects, my Alert volume slider will be set to 0.
Does anyone have any ideas why this keeps happening?

That's it! Thanks for the help!
I thought it may be a shortcut to begin with, so I opened up the Sound preferences and hit ctrl + option + space but it would do nothing. The pane has to be closed for it to reset the alert volume.

  • Ringtone volume keeps setting itself lower!!!??????

I have the iphone 3g and my ringtone volume won't stay up. After a while, if i return to the settings menu, i notice that the ringtone volume has mysteriously gone down. When i woke up this morning, the volume was all the way down. I discovered that it occurs after i make a call. i just set the volume to max, made a call, and after the call the volume was down (and i never touched the volume controls on the side). Please please please help

My 1st gen iphone is up to the same antics. Pre 2.0 all was perfect. Then then update... During calls, if you adjust the volume for either the iphone earpiece, speaker phone, or bluetooth headset (I'm using the Plantronics voyager 520, which was purchased at the apple store), the ringer volume gets adjusted as well.
Just go into the sounds option under settings, make a call, and watch in awe as you adjust your call volume and ringer volume at the same time.
I've missed calls b/c the volume resets it self to a lower (random) setting. Now I must check after every call. The best part is if you push up on your volume button while at the home screen (the ringer volume pop up appears) and note that you have it on the highest setting, go ahead and check the sound option under settings. It will be at some random lower level. Oh my phone never did this on 1.4. I do hope the engineers are reading this and release a fix ASAP. The main purpose of the iPhone is to be a phone. Missing calls due to a low ringer volume is crazy.

  • Iphone 4 ringer volume keeps turning itself down

iphone 4 ringer volume keeps turning itself down?

    Hi cainstigator,
If you are having issues with your iPhone's volume setting not staying the way it should, you may want to try some things to troubleshoot.
First, quit all running applications and test again -
Force an app to close in iOS
Next, I would try restarting and if needed resetting the iPhone -
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If the issue is still present, you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • IPhone 4S ring volume keeps turning itself down

The ring volume keeps turning itself down, I have been into the Settings and turned OFF the "Change with buttons"
and set the volume as high as it will go but after leaving the phone for an hour or so the volume is wound back to
minimum again. Siri is turned off.

Try this... You will Not Lose Any Data...
    Turn the Phone Off...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear and then Disappear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... (But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...
    Turn the Phone On...

  • Ipad Volume keeps turning itself all the way down

ipad Volume keeps turning itself all the way down rendomly i`ve tryed everything from upgrading to V5 to rest the device what should i do

Is the switch above the volume set for mute?  Accidentally bumping that would turn down the volume.
Try Settings > General > Lock Rotation to On and see if that eliminates the problem (although beware that the switch will now control screen rotation.  If sound starts working corrcetly, but your screen lock keeps setting, then I think you are having a switch problem.

  • HT1766 Recently updated my iPhone 4s to the iOS 6. Now I can not install application updates, my music library has vanished, iTunes Match (in Settings) keeps setting itself to "Off".

I recently updated my iPhone 4s to the iOS 6. Now I can not install application updates, my music library has vanished, iTunes Match (in Settings) keeps setting itself to "Off". I have also logged off of iTunes in Settings, and it will not let me log back in. Just a few moments ago when I again tried to log into iTunes, it asked me for my Password, then replyed that I had no Match account; but I do. Is Restore the best option?
    Any suggestions

I couldn't find the edit button on my original post so I am posting an update here.
I have gone through more apps and have had good luck on all but one more.  And it's not that the app doesn't work, I am talking about the Yahoo Weather app, It works fine, but when you swipe between cities the screen lags a bit and it sometimes doesn't move between pages the way it should.  On iOS 7.1.2 it was smooth as butter but on iOS 8.0, not so much.  I will post a note in the app store to let them know.  I really like the Yahoo app better than the new stock app.
I have been going through my games and they all work fine. Angry Birds (Original and Stella), Canabalt, Minecraft, Bejeweled 2, Silly Walks, PopWords, Doodle Jump, Deep Green all seem to work just fine.
Starbucks app works as it should.
I will stop back again next week after I have had the weekend to play with it in detail and post my thoughts again.

  • Compaq presario cq45 (volume keeps activating itself)

Hi, was wondering why the volume keeps activating itself.
There's a volume touch sensor on my laptop, although i didnt touch it, the volume screen keeps appearing and disappearing.
It's very annoying when it appears because i cant click on the webpage.
I contacted the outlet salesman at hougang mall, he told me to reformat my laptop as it might be virus.
So i reformatted it, but i'm still experiencing the same problem.
    what should i do now?

No, i never heard that kind of virus.

  • ITunes volume slider automatically sets itself back to 0

    Hi
I have a very strange problem since yesterday.
When launching iTunes I get a warning message saying that my volume is set to 0 so I won't hear anything. When I try to raise the volume, it sets itself back to zero as soon as I let the mouse button go. I have tried setting it to different levels, no luck, it immediately sets itself back to 0.
I am not using any remote speakers or things like that...
    Does anyone have any idea?
    Many thanks in advance

    No I checked that.
After several reboots the issue fixed itself. I don't know how but it's working again.
    Thanks for helping out though

  • My Clock Keeps Setting Time Wrong

    Hi there,
I have a 15" MacBook Pro from Dec 2011 which has a bit of a problem. Recently (within the last couple of months), the clock keeps setting itself ahead 3 hours. I have no idea why. I even unchecked it setting from the clock at apple, and took my city out. But almost every time that I log in, it sets itself ahead three hours, and sometimes a whole day and three hours forward.
I reset the SMC, as well as the PRAM. It still does it most of the time (sometimes it does get it right).
I have no idea what to do anymore. I've looked online and couldn't find any other recommendations, so I'm wondering if anyone else had some ideas.
    Running Mavericks btw.
Thanks for any help or info.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Display for: timer sets itself, no matter what

I was prompted to download an update to Captivate today. So,
I did. Now I am having problems overriding the "Display for:"
timer. It keeps setting itself, I need to override it to something
less than what it thinks it needs. Is there a way to turn this off.
I was not having this problem until I downloaded the update...so,
    I'm frustrated.
What am I doing: I want to create a slide, and the user can
click/not click on the correct area. If not a failure message pops
up for 0.2 secs. Then, I advance to the next slide and I display a
text box with the same error message and add some animation.
However, I am having a hard time gettng the Display for: timer set
to 0.2, it keeps setting itself to 4 or 5 seconds. Is anyone else
having this issue? Are you able to get around it. Otherwise, I'll
have to try to remove the update.

    Capti8r,
I don't know if that was the issue or not. (I wound up
restoring my system because I wasn't able to be productive).
However, here is what I know, I NEVER unchecked that option to
begin with. What was happening was that I would go to the Options
page and manually type my change in the Display For: field. Then,
I'd hit Apply, and it would change the time to what it calculated
and not keep my manual changes. I would expect that no matter what,
if I made a manual change, then it should keep it. Unless the new
version enforced that option differently. But, why would they do
    that...

  • Has anyone found the iPhone 4 alerts sounds keep turning down. The only way to get them back up is to switch the phone off and then back on.

My iPhone 4 alert volume keeps turning its self down even though the volume is turned up. The only way to correct is to turn the phone off and then back on.

YES!  This is really killing me and you're the only one to bring it up in discussions!  I constantly have to turn it off and on to get it back to norm, and this other reply about clean wiping in/resetting it is just too much of a pain in the @#*.  I don't have the apple warranty, but do have verizon as a carrier with insurance.  I wonder if they'll have a clue as to what to do, or just default to the idiocy that is the norm.  Good luck to us both.  Btw, I have the 4s..

  • The volume icon on my ipod won't disappear and the volume sets itself at full.

The volume icon on my ipod touch won't disappear and the volume sets itself at full. I have tried a master reset etc, but it doesn't want to cooperate. Any ideas?

    Try:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod
If you still have a problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
I do not know what a "master reset" is.

  • My 3gs keeps switching itself off and when i turn it on, the date is set to 1st January 1970

I Have an Iphone 3gs that keeps switching itself off and when i turn it on, the date is set to 1st January 1970 :S   ... many software resets and updates won't do any good .. repaired at the manufacturer twice for the same, and works till it happens again on it's own. When it was repaired, the fix was mentioned as a reset done for the device. I have a friend who is alse havng same issue.
can someone tell what is the reset that can be done to tr and do it from my end plzzz?

Sounds like the battery is dead.  Bu try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iPOd
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
If still problem your battery is very likely dead.  An appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Why does my 4s volume keeps going up by itself?

Hi. Thanks for your advice in advance!  For the past 4 weeks, the volume of my 4s keeps going up on its own and then the volume screen doesn't disappear.  It's really hard to manage texting/talking with this annoying issue.  Has anyone had this same issue?  Would apprecite some feedback.  Thanks!

I had the same issue but on my iPhone 4S the volume keeps going down on its own and then goes on mute which really frustrates me. I can't believe you have the same problem.
@pogster Well,I already tried resetting all the settings and nothing changed.
I'm sure there is something wrong with the Hardware, software is not related to this issue.
I think something is repeatedly pressing the volume button and its going down or up.
A way to avoid this is to stop pressing the volume buttons from now on,thats what I did. Increase the volume from the screen not from the volume buttons and visit the closest Apple Store to help you with this.
