Aliasing (aka jaggies) only in quicktime

Anyone else notice that when watching animations in quicktime, sharp edges have aliased pixels? VLC , and Windows media player don't give this issue, only quicktime. This happens on various codecs, h.264, sorenson video 3, and others. It doesn't seem to be a compression thing either, since I've tested small files, and 'animation' compression files.
Does anyone know why this happens? How to fix it? Or if apple is working on fixing this issue.
thanks

So you're taking your original progressive AVCHD content that hasn't ever been transcoded by prelude or anything else and pulling it straight into premiere now right?
Okay so if I'm understanding correctly you now tried  to make a progressive sequence then place your progressive footage in the timeline then export it as progressive from Premiere pro's progressive timeline?  Then after you do this is it messed up in both VLC and Quicktime? If you have done this just for fun I'd like to have you just use the upper field first sequence you said it creates you and try exporting to both progressive and upper just to see if this changes anything.
Also when you right click the clip in your footage bin and click "modify>interpet" what does it say the field order is (next to "use field order from file" or w/e)
I just want to be sure I am understanding you. However If you could please upload a very small portion of the original .MTS  AVCHD footage you're using that hasn't been altered for testing purposes that would be great I'm intrested to see for myself If I can find/reproduce the problem you're experincing.
I haven't ever seen this occur before unless some sort of setting is incorrect somewhere.   (Except when I have scaled something but even then there is always a workaround. )

  • I only want quicktime

I'm new on these forums and was just wondering if there was any way to get just quicktime installed without having to go through the hassle of installing the itunes S**TE?
If anyone knows of the best way of doing this then I would like to know asap because then I could post how to do it on my website because I know a lot of people who JUST WANT QUICKTIME and no other C**P installing on their pc at the same time.
Also I don't know if anyone else has had any trouble trying to contact apple via e-mail but I have been all over their bloody website and cannot find any e-mail links for support on itunes or quicktime, I mean what is with that, instead of e-mailing them I have to put a post in a rubbish forum to try get some sensible answer from someone else other than themselves.
If anyone has a contact e-mail for support on itunes or quicktime then i would like to know what they are so that i can have a go at them about their rubbish software.
Any response would be greatly appreciated and you can reply to me via this post or by e-mail on [email protected]

I have one solution for you.. I just also bought my Ipod VIdeo 60 GB 3 days ago and having problem with Quicktime 7.0.3.
Everytime I click on Itunes Icon on my desktop, it says you have older version of Quicktime 7.0.2, Itunes need 7.0.3 or later to be able to play Itunes, Please reinstall Itunes....I did reintalling adn uninstalling millions of times.. still it was the same problem.
Now what I recommend is to uninstall all Quicktime version and Itunes in your computer. Delete everytime you have... shutdown wait for couple of minutes and then go to the above site address I provided. Only download Quicktime alone. Do not download qiucktime and itunes together.. It is no good. And do not go to Apple site to download because it will download together.. That's not what we want. Download Quicktime 7.0.3 version for windows. After successful installation.. Only then Go to apple site and only download Itunes alone. This will work I guaranteed. Because mine is working now!!! Let me know the outcome.. Good luck!!

  • Why do only some QuickTime movies play on the iPhone?

Why do only some QuickTime movies play on the iPhone?
I have noticed that only some QuickTime movies play on the iPhone, does anyone know why?
    Thanks,
    Brandon

Depends on how the movies are encoded for Quicktime (i.e. which compression/codec). The iPhone supports only H.264 video.

  • Is there a way to only download quicktime 7.1.3 and not 7.1.6?

Quicktime 7.1.6 is not compatible with another program I need to use and iTunes says it needs at least 7.1.3 to work. Is there a way I can download that version and not the newer one?

After searching Apple Downloads, the only other version 7 I could find was 7.1.5. Would that help you at all?

  • I paid for Quicktime Pro but only show Quicktime. I need to rotate a movie.

I have registered successfully with the license code they sent me after I paid for Quicktime Pro. The email from them says that I now have Quicktime Pro, but still I only show regular Quicktime, not Quicktime Pro.
I DO HAVE A NEW DELL LAPTOP SO THIS MAY BE OPERATOR ERROR.
I'd like to be able to rotate a movie but the directions I have don't work for regular Quicktime.
I found directions online that tell me to open Quicktime Pro. Go to "Window". Then to "Show Movie Properties" then to the icons for rotating a movie.
I can get as far as "Show Movie Properties" but after that there is a strange chart and nothing about rotating anything.
How do I get the Quicktime Pro to show up instead of regular Quicktime?
Thanks in advance for any help you may give to me.

Thank you for responding! Unfortunately, it doesn't give me this option. When I go to "Windows" and then to "Show Movie Properties" and I click on the video, nothing happened other than it is highlighted in blue. I tried clicking once. Nada. Twice Nada. I tried right clicking. Nothing comes up. The options I have are below. Is this making any sense to you? Thanks.
    <Extract Delete Columns
Name Start Time Stop Time Duration Data Size Data Rate Sample Count Channels
Format Sample Rate Sample Size Timecode Start Time Timecode Stop Time>
Shouldn't my program say Quicktime Pro?

  • Realmedia streaming video attempts, firefox only offers Quicktime and won't

I've attempted to view streamed video in Realplayer format but the popup only allows for Quicktime as the player and that won't work of course. Anybody know how to set up Realplayer or Firefox to work together? I downloaded the latest Realplayer and Firefox and don't know why it reads the streaming video as Quicktime.

Thanks so much for your reply. It seems odd that the website would not have heard from other subscribers before about this problem but they didn't mention it when I contacted them.  I was on another site yesterday with similar educational workshop videos (though MUCH longer)  & my Mac worked fine.  Unless like you said, they weren't high-quality.  I guess I'll have to wait for the website to remedy the problem!  Thanks!

  • Why is Quicktime Pro only for Quicktime 7??

I just bought an upgrade to Quicktime Pro, but it is for Quicktime 7. My Mac seems to be Quicktime 10 and the instalation istructions don't work.
Why did the Apple store sell me an upgrade that is 3 versions out of date?
How can I get Quicktime Pro for my version of Quicktime?

    Hi there!
I am a Mac newbie - just switched from Windows about 4 weeks ago.
    I am confused!
My MacBook Pro came with QuickTime Player 10. I have downloade QuickTime Player 7 from the link Niel provided. I install it. But Version 10 still shows in my applications! Even after I reboot my Mac.
I purchased the Pro upgrade and obviously cannot register it until I figure out how to get 7 to appear.
Help! How do I get my MacBook to recognize Version 7?
Thanks in advance for any help!

  • Iphoto only using quicktime 10, not QT 7

I installed quicktime 7 from install disk, and set qt7 as default by way of this method: right clicked on a movie clip in iphoto 09, then show file, then get info, and selected qt7 as default.
It works when i click on a movie title from the finder, but when i play a movie from iphoto 09...then it brings up qt 10. Any ideas?????
    Message was edited by: pemarsh

If QT 10 is popping up, then you are using Snow Leopard. _*Please correct*_ your system info as it shows you are still using the Tiger OS.
The correct system info will help the users here in providing you w/correct troubleshooting suggestions.
    Thank you.

What kind of video? Downloaded, one you created yourself?

  • Uninstalling only Quicktime not iTunes

First, I installed iTunes with Quicktime. Can I only uninstall Quicktime and not uninstall iTunes. If not, how can I back up my songs and videos on iTunes and put them back?

are you having a problem with your QuickTime and/or itunes, Yoloni? could you describe your symptoms, please?

  • QuickTime stutters only with .mpg files

Only since I've updated to Mac OS X 10.5.2 that I've been experiencing this problem. I have a load of .mpg files recorded using my digital camera, as well as a bunch of files I've downloaded from the net. These used to play back perfectly fine and smooth in QuickTime, but now every few seconds there is a big stutter. The files aren't corrupt as every other media player plays them fine. Also, it is just .mpg files QuickTime is struggling with, any other supported format plays perfectly fine.
The file codec is 'MPEG1 Muxed'.
I've tried reinstalling QuickTime, the Leopard Graphics update and neither have provided me with any fixes.

Why did you uninstall Perian? You need it!
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, QT 7.3 or 7.4 and OS 10.4.11. (If you are running Leopard, ensure that all plug-ins have been updated for OS 10.5.2, but please see my footnote).
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.9 or above (this has not yet been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs.
Adobe FlashPlayer should first be uninstalled using the appropriate uninstaller available here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2 and then the latest version obtained from here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash and installed.
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS, but please see my footnote if you are running Leopard.)
In earlier versions than QT 7.1.3 in Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11 or Leopard, that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Update 2007-009.1.1, which also deals with the Quicktime/Flash issues you may have experienced, such as the '?'. What happened was that both Quicktime as well as Adobe FlashPlayer tried to play the Flash video at the same time. This no longer happens. (N.B. Security Update 2007-009 1.1 requires both a restart and a permission repair.)
If you get problems with viewing video on a website try moving this file to your Desktop:
    Hard drive/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/QuickTime Plugin.webplugin
and then restarting Safari. If all now works, you can trash that file.
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.
    FOOTNOTE
    If you are running Leopard:
Some users have mentioned that the latest Flash Player (v.9.0.115.0) conflicts with Leopard, and that they have needed to revert to v. 9.0.47. This can be downloaded from here:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14266&sliceId=1

  • Quicktime only exports audio in Lion

I have just upgraded to Lion and I can no longer get Quicktime to export video. When I select Export>Format>480p (for example) only the audio will export. What's goign on? Is there a fix for this?

    What version are you using?
I was using QT 7 Pro version 7.6.6 as indicated by the ability to select different video compression formats as stated above.
As far as I know, there is only one QuickTime version available for OS X Lion, Version 10.1. It is the program that came with the new OS X Lion.
If you had QT 7 Pro installed on your Snow Leopard system at the time it was upgraded to Lion, then it would still be there after the upgrade. In addition, users can install the QT 7 Player to Lion after upgrading and key it for QT 7 Pro use if they so desire.
I was capable of exporting video and sound in Snow Leopard. Here is the flow process: In OS X Lion, open a .mov file. Go to File then Export. At the bottom of the dialog box it says Format. You can choose 480p, 720p, 1080p, then a line, then iPod..., Ipad..., Mac & PC, then a line, then Audio Only. These are the presets.
You still should be able to do so. I just ran four additional tests using four of the QT X "presets" at random. All successfully created an H.264/AAC file with playing video.
I'm not sure you are using the same version of QuickTime or the same OS if you do not see these things. At any rate, no matter the selection I choose, the only output I receive is an audio file. I think there is a bug in the new QuickTime.
I wasn't. That is why I asked which you were using so I could try and duplicate your work flow. Since I have no problem converting files, it does not sound like a bug—rather a bad software install or a conflict between the QT Player X and some third-party app you have installed on your system which I don't. However, you still have not indicated what video compression format was used in the source file. WMV for instance would be playback compatible if you had the free Flip4Mac player codec component installed but not conversion compatible without paying a minimum of $29 for the WMV "import" codec.
