All of my music just disappeared

It wasn't from the update. All of my music just suddenly disappeared. I didn't do anything, change anything, and today it just said there was no music ok the device. I had about 10 gb of music, and it isn't backed up on iCloud because I couldn't fit that much. I don't think it's backed up anywhere. I just want to know what happened and where it went. Most I didn't buy. Most of it is from CDs from my friends that I no longer have. What the heck happened and why? I'm outraged.

I'm upset because my iPod is acting up, and instead of trying to help solve the problem, like why this forum was created, you brig some pathetic argument into this.
Your original post contravenes (among others) item 8:2 of Apple's Terms of Use, to which you agreed to abide when you signed on the the forum, with the description of the source of "most of your music".
Item 8:2: Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise 'work around' digital rights management software or hardware - and it is possible that your post might have been removed as a consequence.  My post sought to add some balance which may reduce the chances of that removal.
Your latest post changes nothing, no matter how much you seek to stereotype me.
Perhaps, what you need to keep in mind the next time you blab about your theft of music is that you've just confessed to the entire world (and the muscians you claim to support) about what you've done.
Ooops!
P.S. please do look up the definition of the word "blab". I think you may find it quite interesting

  • Hi, just updated hubby's iPhone 4 and all of his music has disappeared from the iPhone and from the iTunes library! He does have music still stored on his iPod, but can't get it from the library on his iPod back to phone or itunes. technophobe help pls!

and all of his music has disappeared from the iPhone and from the iTunes library! Luckily he does have music still stored on his iPod, but I can't get it from the library on his iPod back to the phone or to itunes. Please help, but technophobe so put it in simple english please!

Sounds like the music you had on your phone was not the same music on his computer. The iPhone/iPod touch is not designed to be a storage device. When you sync with a computer that doesn't have your music, it deletes your music from your phone.
Was this music you purchased from iTunes? if so, and you are in the US, tap on itunes app, tap updates, tap purchased and tap on the cloud icon to get each song back. If you're not int he us, get iOS5 update later this week and do the same.
But you need to move your itunes library to his computer. Create a user account on his macbook pro for you. From your external drive backup, load your itunes library on it. Then sync as usual! (Don't tell me you don't have a backup for your computer!)

  • My music just disappeared.

I have a 5th generation iPod touch and the music just completely disappeared. I hadn't used it in about three days and when I went to use it today there were 36 songs on it from the 467 I previously had. And it's only showing half of the songs I purchased from iTunes.
Most of the songs that I did have came from CDs I own, but it's such a hassle to redownload them all to my laptop and then to my iPod all over again; especially when I have no idea what happened to them in the first place.
Now, I updated to ios 8 when it was released and after that, most of my album covers were completely gone, even from albums I purchased through iTunes. And it annoyed me to the point that I deleted the few songs that were affected by it. I don't think that's in any way connected to the current situation, but right now I'm not so sure
    • it's not currently connected to the internet, but it's not like that has anything to do with it
•t's relatively new, I just got it this summer
    • I have iOS 8
•there haven't been any other problems other than the two I mentioned above
    • I tried resetting it by holding the home and on/off button and that did nothing
its it's just extremely infuriating when all I wanted to do was listen to some music

Glitches happen sometimes. All the music, especially non-iTunes purchases, are in your iTunes library right?
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    As necessary:
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • I cancelled iTunes match and all my imported music has disappeared. How do I get it back. Please !!!

    Hi,
When I subscribed to iTunes match, it moved all my imported songs (i.e. songs from cds that I owned) into the cloud. I finally got fed up of this, and cancelled my iTunes match subscription, and now all my imported songs have disappeared !! Can someone please help me get them back !!!
    Thanks,

Since going to match its no longer possible to back up as far as I can see, so any advice you can offer on what I should do if I want to cancel would be greatly received.
You need to import tracks to your computer in order to add them to match. You should back up those tracks before deleting them from your main computer
Make and keep a backup of your iTunes library, and only stream from the cloud.
As you did not keep the originals on your computer, I suggest that you create a new library on the external drive and download them. You would need to do this in any event if you decided not to renew match. Use this library to manage your music in the cloud - new tracks added will be available in the cloud once match completes it's scan of your library.

  • Help!! iTunes music just disappeared.

    Hey,
I have a MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard and I was running Safari and iTunes. My computer froze and was completely unresponsive so I forced it to shut down and restarted. When it started again Safari ran fine but it wasn't until i opened iTunes* an hour later I found all my music had disappeared.
I've looked on forums and tried everything: I updated and restarted, I tried to repair disk permissions, I tried "Import a new playlist" to import the iTunes library and the .xml file but nothing works.
The weird thing is there are a few songs in it and they're the first songs I put on my iTunes like 4 years ago.
All of my music is in a folder iTunes Music but i don't want to have to reimport everything, it will take ages so is there something i haven't tried??????
*When i opened it a message came up that said it had to make a new file or something iTunes Music (damaged)
** Also my computer has the same amount of free space as it did before the crash so i assume nothing has been completely wiped.

Restore that backup you take regularly... Ah, OK.
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes. In the *Previous iTunes Libraries* folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename *iTunes Library* as *iTunes Library (OLD)* and then rename the restored file as *iTunes Library*. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.

  • All my contacts have just disappeared from my iphone 5c

as it says, I just went to send a text message and noticed all my contacts are just numbers, went into my contacts and there are no contacts there at all, I have not used iCloud nor have I synced my phone with itunes previously, so do this mean they have all just gone! I hope note as I rely on it for my business contacts, I couldn't sync with iCloud because my MacBook Pro is 10.6 so I can't get the app, don't understand whats going on and panicking! They were there this morning and since then I haven't updated my phone or done anything out of the norm. Any help please!
    Thank you

Click on the Apple icon in the upper left hand corner of the desktop. Select "About this Mac" and it will tell you which operating system you are using. It is a moot point now since it would seem you are not using Time Machine. If you are on Leopard (10.5.x) as your signature indicates then I highly recommend you get Time Machine up and running so that you can recover from such emergencies that you are now faced with. If you are still on Tiger (10.4.x) then upgrade to Leopard and get Time Machine working for you. It has saved me several times already and is worth the price of the upgrade by itself.

  • IOS 7.0.2 - ITunes Manually manage music and videos option - all of my music has disappeared?

Hi all - I clicked the above option because I was having issues moving tracks to my I-Phone.  Except now, ALL of the songs I have ripped manually from my old CDs previously have disappeared - ***?  I'm talking well over 800 songs!!!!!!
I can't see them anymore in my IPhone or the Library, so assume they have gone.
How the f*ck is this possible?  I didn't choose any delete option.
Has anyone had this happen to them?  Guess I have to spend hours doing them all again.
I-Tunes is an absolute joke - I've had issues with it since year dot.  So p*ssed off right now.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Happened to multiple people and everyone blames different things. What they don't realize is that itunes, just like Windows Media player do not contain music. They just see it on the computer and allow to play. Music can only dissapear if was deleted from itunes or if itunes do not have access to library. There are multiple programs on Windows that can stop itunes from accessing library, example McAfee real time scanner did it 4 months ago and
I don't know if that was ever fixed. So find that music and reimport that is all.

  • How do I copy my library from an external drive to my computer without bringing all of my music just the library?

I have 137,000 songs on an external harddrive.  I just loaded them all into Itunes on a new computer and took the time to sort through all of them and remove duplicates and correct artists ect to have it all sort well.  I narrowed it down to 20,000 songs.  Now I figured out the Itunes library with 20,000 songs is still on my harddrive and is just pulling the 20,000 from the 137,000 songs available.  How do I copy just the 20,000 in my library onto the hard drive on my computer.  I want to upload these into "Cloud" but want to keep them separate from the rest of the music?  Does anyone know how to do this?
    Thanks

Designate a new iTunes Media folder outside of the current folder structure and consolidate the 20,000 files to that location.
I don't have iCloud but I presume it counts the files in your library. If so you may not need to do anything at all, assuming you've eliminated the other entries from the library, but the method above will let you create one clean folder with your keepers.

  • All of my music has disappeared from my library! Help please!

So I get onto my family's home computer to update my iPod when my whole library is empty. I've looked all over the web for help but for some reason my iPod won't appear in the My Computer folder. I had music that I had purchaced from the iTunes store that is also missing, which I was hoping I could rescue.
I have a 1st generation nano, 9.0 iTunes, and a have a Windows XP computer, if that helps any.
I hope you all can help me! I'm kind of a newbie with iTunes stuff. D:

  • Ios7 - all my phone numbers just disappeared

    iPhone 5S
    64GB
    Version 7.0.4 (11B554a)
    AT&T 15.5
I was texing some friends back & forth.  In the last reply text, I noticed it did not show my friends names, just their phone numbers.  Looked at all my other previous texts and everything is listed as phone numbers.  All the names are gone.
Went to my contacts and everyone's phone numbers have disappeared.  All the contacts are still there, just no phone numbers for anyone.
I have not done a recent update and I don't use iCloud.  It has always been turned off.  The only thing I was doing with the phone was texting.  All other apps were closed.
    Any suggestions?

  • All my contacts have just disappeared. what should i do?

All my contacts have disappeared off my phone- i have synced with my macbook but they havent come back- help!

I had this same problem.  I called Apple and they have not been helpful.  They haven't even said anything about their server but I think its the case.  It happened to me twice.  On 1/16/13 and then again 1/23/13 when the first issue hadn't yet been resolved.  Any idea who I can ask for at Apple to get this resolved?

  • All songs on iPhone just disappeared?

After visiting the itunes store on my iphone (4, iOS 5), all of my 2,500 songs disappeared. I'm unable to sync more that a dozen or so songs from my itunes list of over 4,000 songs. All the songs on the itunes list can be played on my computer without an issue. I can even see all of the songs when my iPhone is connected, but they all have exclamation points next to the (under the phone, not on itunes itself). Any ideas?

Short answer: only about half of the songs on my iPod are still in the iTunes library (not by choice, but oh well)
It's ok though, I've managed to almost fix it (the only problem now is that those songs that had remained are now doubled up - but that is way better than losing the rest of them, so it's alright for now).
Thank you for taking the time to respond though!

  • All my Sent mail just disappeared...!

Been having a couple of problems with a Time Machine drive (WD 1TB MyBook) which have had me diving in and out of Disk Utility and DiskWarrior trying to fix it, but my actual iMac is running fine. However, I just noticed that sometime in the last hour or so, ALL my 'Sent' mail has vanished from the app. Mails sent since the vanish are appearing fine but all my earlier mails are gone. I have Mail set up to use IMAP Gmail but have not had any problems with it before.
This seems to have coincided with a hanged 'Quit' out of Mail earlier today. I'd quit the app and the window had gone but the app wasn't quitting. In the end I Forced Quit but strangely the Force Quit window didn't say the app was unresponsive like it usually does, so perhaps I shouldn't have done this. Either way, I'm pretty sure it was when I relaunched the app that all the Sent mail had gone, but I can't be sure as it was another half hour till I dipped into the folder to check the wording in something I'd sent that morning.
    Any ideas?

    Owen:
The problem may have been caused by DiskWarrior or the Permission Repair function in DiskUtility. Also there have been a number of stability issues with Mail after the 10.5.6 update.
Apple has just issued a fix for Mail under 10.5.6 - check downloads. If that does not resolve the problems you can import the sent mail using the Import function under Mail/File. You may also have to rebuild the individual mailboxes using Mail/Mailbox/Rebuild.
    Hope this helps.
