Allowable path loss between Cisco XENPAK-10GB-LR & HP BLc 10Gb
Greetings All!
How much attenuation loss should be allowed (upper & lower range) for 10Gb link between Cisco XENPAK-10GB-LR & HP BLc 10Gb?
Thanks.
Regards,
Well the Cisco XENPAK 10GB-LR is spec'd for spans up to 10 km.
Per its data sheet, the transmit power ranges from +0.5 dBm max down to -8.2 dBm min. Receive levels must be no greater than +0.5 dBm and no less than -14.4 dBm.
The HP BLc 10GB (assuming it is the LR type transceiver) does not have any such detailed specification that I could find.
I'd estimate worst case planing would would be the difference of the minimum Cisco Tx and the least allowable Rx power = 6 dB loss end to end. When in doubt, measure it!

CISCO XENPAK-10GB-LW (WAN PHY)
hi,
do you know if installing the CISCO XENPAK-10GB-LW (WAN PHY) you need a SONET/SDH multiplexer or you can connect it directly to the SDH network?
any document explaining it?
thanksThe WAN PHY module will appear to your SDH network as a SONET tributary interface. Its signal will need to be carried intact as an OC-192 (approximately 10 Gbps) across the SDH network since it's not a bunch of STS payloads but rather a single 10 Gbps IP stream encapsulated in SONET framing. Other than that, it should be able to feed your SDH network's ADM just fine (given attention to your optical power levels, etc.).
Hope this helps, please rate helpful posts. -
Cisco XENPAK - HP2910 10GB interface
Hi,
We need to connect a Cisco XENPAK-10GB-LR module with a "HP ProCurve 2-Port 10-GbE SFP+ al Module (J9008A)" (a module inside a
"HP Switch E2910-48G al(J9147A)")
The HP switch module would have an "HP X132 10G SFP+ LC LR Transceiver (J9151A)".
Where can I find some info if this kind of fibre connection is supposed to work ?
The specifications for both the devices (XENPAK and the HP module/tranceiver) are same - 10GBASE-LR (single-mode fiber, 1310 nm).
Regards,
FlorinYes, the two transceivers will interoperate.
Make sure you order the correct singlemode fiber patch cords to interface to the LC/UPC connector type on the HP transceiver and the SC/UPC connector type on the XENPAK. -
Difference between cisco prime infrastructure and cisco WCS
Can you explain me difference between cisco prime infrastructure and cisco WCS.. I'm little bit confuse...
Thanks..Hi Hasan,
In terms of features...You can say PI is more advanced version of WCS and NCS. All the stuff possible in WCS/NCS can be done on PI as well.
But from the architecture perspective , there are differences. If I remember correctly , WCS is based on 32 bit OS while NCS and PI based on 64 bit OS. For the same reason you cannot do inline upgrade from WCS to PI via any path and will have to change the platform/Hardware itself before moving to PI. However , inline upgrade from NCS to PI is possible if we follow the correct path.

Routing issue between Cisco Nexus and Cisco 4510 R+E Chassis
We have configured Cisco Nexus 7K9 as core and Cisco 4510 R+E as access switches for Server connectivity.
We are experiencing problem in terms of ARP learning and Ping issues between Cisco Nexus and end hosts.Hi,
So you have N7k acting as L3 with servers connected to 4510?.
Do you see the MAC associated with failing ARP in 4510?. Is it happening with all or few servers?. Just to verify if it is connectivity issue between N7k and 4510, you can configure an SVI on 4510 and assign address from same raneg (server/core range) and perform a ping.
This will help narrow down if issue is between server to 4510 or 4510 to N7k.
Thanks,

I don't hve any NAT-exemptions in Cisco IOS Router. Transform-set I will change soon, but I've tried with tunnel mode and it didn't work.
Maybe NAT-exemptions is the issue. Can you advice me which exemptions should be in Cisco IOS Router?
Because on Cisco ASA I guess I have everything.

i had a iphone 3gs on contract which ended so i upgraded to 4s. had the 3gs cleaned as a second phone for my partner. i then allowed the sync between the 2 so whatever was on mine would be on the other and vise versa. this meant the contacts was aswell so i deleted them not knowing they would be removed from both, i then tried a backup to icloud to restore the lost canotacts instead it seemed to clone my new 4s from my old 3gs and now the features on the 4s wont work. music and tunes have been lost along with all my messages
please help mePlug your phone into the wall charger for at least 30 minutes...make sure you have a sim card in the phone...then:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.
Make sure you have no anti-virus software running or any firewalls...turn all of that stuff off. -
The difference of the IEEE802.1x Auth between Cisco Routers and Catalyst switches
Hello
I am investigating the difference of the IEEE802.1x Auth between Routers and Switches.
Basically dot1x auth is availlable on Catalyst Switches. however if I want to check to
PortBased Multi-Auth , MAC address Auth and any certification Auth with this feature,
Is it possible to integrate into Cisco Router such as Cisco 891F ?
In my opinion Cisco891F is also available to use basic IEEE802.1x but if it compares with Catalyst switches such as Cat3560X
I think there might be any unsupported feature on Cisco 891F.
I appreciate any information. thank you very much in advance.
Best Regards,
Masanobu HiyoshiMany time in interviews asked comaprison between cisco routers and switches that i was answerless bcoz i dont have much knowledge about that. Can anyone provide me the compariosin sheet of the same.how are the cisco devices differ with each other how much Bandwidth each routres support and Etc...
Ummmm ... The most common question I get is "what is the difference between a router and a switch".
However, if you get a question like this, then my impression to this line of questioning are:
1. The candidate they are looking for has in-depth knowledge of routers and switches. And I mean IN-DEPTH!;
2. They are not looking for a candidate. They just want to stroke their ego. There is not alot of people who can give you the "names and numbers" of routers and switches at a snap of a finger. And if you do happen to know the answer, then and there, then expect a tougher follow-up question. -
Inline Posture between Cisco ISE and Wireless LAN Controller
Hi,
I was looking into Cisco ISE solution for deploying NAC.
I have a question about the network topology.
In the user guide documents of cisco ISE, it is written that for Wireless LAN Controllers (WLC) and VPN devices, an additional server, Inline Posture, is needed.
However, in the following integration document, there is not an inline posture between WLC and Cisco ISE server.
https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-18121
I want to know if Inline Posture is a requirement, if not a requirement, what are the benefits of having it between Cisco ISE Server and WLC.
Thanks & Regards

Integration problem between Cisco Seure ACS 4.2 with LDAP
Hi expert,
I have a problem with the integration between Cisco Secure ACS 4.2 with SUN Java System Directory (LDAP). During the integration, I noticed that user failed to authenticate against LDAP via Cisco Secure ACS. The error message is "Authentication Type is not supported by external DB". In this case the "external DB" refer to LDAP. Anyone of you having an experience on integration on both product before? Can any of you give me some pointers about this. Attached are both screen capture on my ACS server.
Thanks very much,
DanielHi,
Thanks for the compatibility chart. Oh dear ..., it seems that the LDAP does not supports PEAP (EAP-MS CHAPv2) at all. Am not sure if the latest LDAP (particularly for SUN Java System Directory) able to support this authentication protocol.
Just to clarify with you all just in case if you wonder what I'm trying to do; our company wants to implement 802.1x over the network. So, every staff on the network must authenticated before able to access the network resources. Our Linksys switches supports this standard including Cisco switches of course. Our RADIUS server is Cisco Secure ACS 4.2 but all those users information including username and passwords are stored in our directory server (LDAP) which is SUN Java System Directory.
Since most of our staff machines are running on XP and Vista, the only available authentication method (beside certificate based) is PEAP (EAP-MSCHAPv2). Based on the compatibility chart, the generic LDAP does not supports this authentication protocol as what we noted the "authentication type not supported by external database" error message in the ACS logs.
From what I learned that the latest LDAP (version 3.0?) able to support this authentication protocol, but yet to be confirmed on my further research.
So... Anyone can advice me on this matter? Thanks very much ! -
Connectivity loss between PLC and Kepware
Hi Experts,
I m working on SAP PCo and PLC connectivity using Kepware.
I m trying to find out ways to find connectivity loss between
1) PLC and kepware
2) kepware and PCo
For 2nd approch,if connectivity loss is there then PCo instance will go in error state and using remote monitoring we can get alert.
But m not able to find any way for 1st approch.
If PLC connection lost then only tag quality in kepware is bad.
Is there any way in PCo expression editor to check tag quality so that i can trigger MII transaction?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
NehaTo add to Hubrisnsx's comment ... are you provisioned Ethernet or MoCA for the WAN connection?
Edit: Never mind, I see in the first post you said MoCA. So, if the MoCA channel is staying up, then it sounds like it might be something inside the ONT.
Keep in mind that while some Verizon folks do drop by these forums from time to time, that this is primarily are user to user forum where customers can help one another. -

Different between cisco NAC agent and cisco Clean Access Agent
Hi all,
if anyone has idea about different between cisco NAC agent and cisco Clean Access Agent, please share your ideas.
thank youIn 4.6, the agent was overhauled and is now called the NAC agent. Previous versions were referred to as the Clean Access Agent. So pretty much, the 4.5 agent and 4.1.3.2 agents are Clean Access agents, and the 4.6.x and 4.7.x agents are called NAC agents.
Some of the changes made were moving a lot of the agent configuration to an XML file, redesigning the GUI, adding a service portion (so that the stub agent is no longer required), and better agent logging. -
Mobility between Cisco WLC and Meraki(other vendor)
Is it possible that users can roam between Cisco WLC and other vendor wireless gear? Meraki keeps saying it is possible.
They keep saying it is a IEEE feature and everone should support but I do not understand how? While theoretically possible with the adoption of capwap, it would require all the manufacturers to follow the specs exactly the same. Kind of like hearding cats, not impossible, but highly unlikely.. That's just my opinion
