Alpha Transitions/YouTube

I have a short sequence on my Timeline using two Alpha Transitions. I'm using a Mac Pro. All my video is on an external drive. The video plays without a problem on the Timeline.
But whether I export to YouTube directly from the Timeline or I go through Compressor, the Alpha Transitions are not there. Instead, I get the "Media Offline" message.

Well... I did assume that it worked fine in your timeline...
But that might not be the full issue. It could be reading the render file from off the macbook and when it is trying to rerender it can't find the transition. Dbl check it again on the timeline and make sure the transition is actually there (dbl click it into the viewer) and everything is in the correct well.

Apple's Alpha Transitions and Color Looks. How to Install and Use?

A few months ago I downloaded the Alpha Transitions and Color Looks from the FCS3 website.
I have just re-discovered the .dmgs on one of my hard drives but my memory is a complete blank!
I cannot remember whether I used them or installed them but seem to recollect reading some instructions somewhere!
Where should they be installed and is there any info on using them?
(Possibly in a few more months I will come across this info that I may have downloaded originally).

Digging around I found most of the answers so will add them here in case anyone else suffers from a similar memory to mine!
The Color Looks .dmg contains the instructions, the main ones being:-
To install the Color looks
1 Locate the Color Looks folder in the image you downloaded.
2 Select the individual folders in the Color Looks folder and copy them to /Users/username/Library/Application Support/Color/Effects/.
The next time you open Color, the new looks will be available in organized folders in the Color FX bin, located in the Color FX room. Opening the individual folders with categories of looks such as "Blues and Greens" and "Glows" will reveal new Color looks presets that can be applied by double-clicking.
If you like, you can move the default looks that come with Color into these folders, to keep everything organized. You can also save your own Color FX presets into these folders.
As for the Alpha transitions, there is of course just one, found in the Wipes folder, which is modified using the media that comes in the download.

Alpha transitions are not in bold

i just downloaded Final Cut Studio 7 and my alpha transitions are not in bold [so they are unusable] Also, I can't import the color looks folder...any ideas?

Because they are not bold does not mean they are not useable. Bold transitions simply mean the transitions will playback in realtime.
You don't download alpha transitions from Apple. The alpha transition is part of Effects in FCP. The componenst you download are just video files used in the alpha transition.

How to Install Alpha Transitions into Final Cut Studio?

I downloaded the Alpha Transitions and now have a folder on the desktop named Alpha Transitions that has sub-folders. How do I install them in Final Cut Studio? I couldn't find any instructions.

Since the transitions are just media, I keep them with the rest of my media used for editing; in a folder on my media drive.

You drag them into the browser. The alpha transition is in the software. These are movies used in the alpha transition. Go to the Ripple Training web site and watch the video about alpha transitions.

They're not extra transitions. They're content to use with the alpha transition. You import the content into your project Do you know how alpha transitions work? Read the section in the manual on them.

I've used the alpha transitions with a wipe, but get a "jumpy" video for a few frames after the transition is complete, even after rendering. Has anyone had this issue?

Thanks for your reply and advice.
The second clip I have in the timeline is still dark blue after I rendered it. The audio part of the clip rendered, but no the video. Yet the playhead still stops at the beginning of the second clip and gives me the Dropped Frames warning.
I have tried to substitute other clips in it's place to no avail. My scratch drive is internal, not connected via firewire.
I have everything checked in the sequence: render selection & render all.
How do I check the clip settings?

I have not had a chance to explore the Iris Heart Transition from on online source for use in Premiere Elements. But, I did want to share with you
my initial "homemade" Iris Heart Transition that I created and explored in Premiere Elements 12/12.1.

The screenshot below shows the Premiere Elements 12 Timeline based on 6 jpg photos that was uploaded to its Publish+Share/Social Websites/YouTube with preset = High Definition Video for YouTube - 1920 x 1080.
Applied Effects Tab/Applied Effects Palette/Track Matte Panel expanded was set at Matte: Video 3, Composite Using: Matte Alpha, and Reverse with a check mark next to it.
Definitely space consuming compared to applying a single video transition between two side by side photos on a single video track.

Motion Transition Glitch - DVDSP 3

I'm relatively new to DVDSP, but I've successfully used the Menu Transition feature on a number of occations. I find it much easier and much faster than building my own transitions, especially when dealing with large numbers of menus. This is the first time that I've run into trouble.
I recently authored a project with 7 menus. 6 of the menus were "motion" menus comprised of a .pct bacground file and a .pct overlay file with an .AC3 audio track. These 6 menus were set to loop after the audio track finished playing. The 7th menu was a true motion menu with an .m2v background and a .pct overlay and again with an .AC3 audio track. This menu was set to pause on a still at the end of it's run.
I built and formated the project without incident and it played back correctly on all test systems (MAC, PC, Set-top). After reviewing the check disk the client requested that menu trasitions be added. I added the transitions and built and formated the project (after checking the disk in the simulator) reusing the original build folder. Upon review of the disk, I was shocked and confused when I discovered that rather than the motion dissolve transition that I expected to see inbetween menus, I was instead seeing seemingly random sections of my 7th motion video menu. I attempted to delete the build folder and and rebuild the disk from scratch, but to no avail. Same problem.
I was successful in solving the problem by doing three things (I'm not sure which was responsible for fixing the glitch) by saving the project under a different name (and building it in a different build folder), by removing and reapplying all of the transitions, and by removing and replacing (with the same files) the .m2v and .AC3 files from my motion menu.
Now that I've solved my own problem (during the course of writing this post), I guess that my question has become: Has anyone else encountered this particular glitch and is there a way for me to avoid it in the future?

I've tried to follow the steps in the Building an Alpha Transition, but it says that you need 2-3 different files, but no mention on exactly how to make those.
I exported from motion and have a file named Trans1-Animation NTSC Alpha.mov but I think I still need to create other files. All the tutorials that I can find show how to do this in After Effects but none explain how to create the need files from motion.
Is there a tutorial that explains the process in motion?

Is there a way to make a custom transition

Okay so Is there a way I can make my own custom transition for final cut pro and once it's made use it as if it's a normal transition. Like I know you can create templetes in motion for final cut but I want to make a transition instead. I was thinking it would just be something like you set the drop zones to be what ever clip is before and after wherever you are placing it but I can't seem to figure out how to do that. Thanks in advance.

come on Bogie, don't you remember those cheesy video toaster transitions with silhouttes of women doing gymnastics across the screen as a transition. They were very popular in public access here in NY.
to the OP, do a search for alpha transitions in the fcp manual. I think that's probably what you're looking for. You can also customize many of the attributes of the existing fcp transitions and save them for reuse by simply dragging the transition to the browser effects tab.

Photo Montages + Transitions

Hi All,
2 Questions:
Anyone know of a great plugin or stand alone app for the easy creation of a nice looking photo montage? I've heard of ImageFlow and it looks good... any others out there?
How about anyone selling FCP transitions that are 3D animations? I mean, I'm talking about somewhat cheesy cartoon transitions here. All I can seem to fine are nice blur/wipe/zoom/dissolves...
For example, a soccer ball wipe, leaves falling, snow falling, etc... the more cartoonish the better.

In Final Cut Pro, there is SupaWipes from Noise Factories, or various alpha transitions from DigitalJuice.

Video transitions for corporate videos

Hello,
I am doing my first corporate video and wandering which transitions work and aren't too cheesy. It's for a building merchants. I have downloaded alpha transitions but haven't used them before. I had a quick look and they seem to say 'insert text here'. Am I doing something wrong? I want transitions without text.
Any advice would be great.

But since you have my attention, and I also work with video, I can say this:
Do the transitions look cheesy to you?
Are they stock transitions that came with you NLE?
Take some pride in your work, and do what the pro's do:
Build, and automate your OWN transitions that look good to you. Chances are, they will look good to other people too.

Changing colors on Satin Transition.

I'm mastering a DVD in which the color violet is used a lot. I love the Red/Blue satin alpha transition, but wish it were purple. A big red/blue transition seems out of place.
I tried editing the video within the .dsptransition file, in quicktime...altering the color, saving it (it does save), but when I put everything back...it's still blue.
The other approach I had was to do a video filter on the blue, within Final Cut Pro, saving the file, putting everything back, but the alpha is off, and no fabric, just an a/b transition.
I hope apple could work this feature into future updates.

You need to set up FCP for and export your satin clip using a codec that supports the Alpha channel such as Apple Animation.
Make sure the color depth is set to Millions+ the plus represents the Alpha channel.
