I have a strange problem. I decided to reinstall archlinux and notice that i can't mute PCM channel. In my previous installation i had that option.

Anyone had that strage problem?

I found out a way of adding a mute switch to controls.

I don't know if this is "correct," but I could add the capability for both my Master and PCM channels (not at the same time though).

After a reinstall I'm missing the PCM channel in alsamixer. Is this new behavior or can I add a virtual PCM with asoundrc? My card is a hda intel type idt 92HD87B2/4

I created /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf because the default card is the HDMI output and I need SB as the first card.

Removing this alsa.conf does not help however.
There is no pulsaudio (edit: libpulse is installed but not pulseaudio), no /etc/asound.conf and no ~/.asoundrc
I think the audio driver is bugged because about every 15 minutes the audio stops playing. Whether it's mplayer, xmms or youtube, after a while they stop and I have to restart the browser, xmms or mplayer. Mplayer gives this warning when the audio is stuck: audio device got stuck

  • The "alsa audio output error: cannot write: Broken pipe" problem

    [Solved]
(No place for this word in the Subject field, so I put it here.)
    Hi Arch community!
I noticed I have this problem and not sure when in started. Several months ago I bought and installed new videocard "GeForce GT 630". Right after installation I lost sound in the system. Having internal sound card (in mainboard) and SB Audigy2 (PCI), I searched for solution and found I had to disable "snd_hda_intel" module to restore sound to work through PCI sound card. Did it.
    echo "blacklist snd_hda_intel" >> /etc/modprobe.d/no-nvidia-sound.conf
After that sound was working as it should. And I noticed recently that during playing of any sound file the sound interrupts. If run VLC from CLI I get "alsa audio output error: cannot write: Broken pipe" message. And my system hasn't been upgraded since I don't know when. I still ran Firefox 26. So googled again and found it's a bug in a kernel or somewhere else.
    ==========================================
    https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=69942 :
    2013-10-01 01:39:40 UTC
I ran a system update last night, and this issue appears to have been corrected.
    ==========================================
And so I thought upgrade would fix my problem since mainstream bug is fixed. After upgrade sound interrupts again, maybe even more often.
Do you guys have this issue and does anyone have a solution?

Not particularly wise to blacklist the module, since it probably is also used by the integrated sound card. With vid and pid you could just disable the nvidia card alone using parameter enable=0. Unless you do not mind having both disabled.
Where do I need to input "enable=0"? When I was searching for solution to make my Creative card work with new nVidia card I installed, the only way I found was blacklisting the module.
    dmesg says:

  • ALSA problem: "Unknown PCM eq"

When attempting to play a sound:
    aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
    I get:
ALSA lib pcm.c:2202:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM eq
aplay: main:590: audio open error: No such file or directory
As far as I know, all modules have been properly loaded, and all devices are in place.  Does anybody know what's going on, and how I can fix it?  I'd like my sound back!  This has only happened recently, since a reboot; before which I could play sounds quite happily.
Any advice would be most welcome!
    Thanks,
    -A.

After a reboot funnily enough it worked. I can't remember having installed something special...

  • No PCM channel in alsamixer

I've recently installed Arch and it appears that I don't have a PCM channel in alsamixer. I recall that I had ALSA issues the last time I used Arch (although I do not recall having this specific problem), and my Debian install on the same computer has a PCM channel, so it's definitely not a hardware-only issue. Alsamixer lists both Nvidia and Intel HDA under the device menu. The Intel device seems to be the right card, as it has all the usual options (besides PCM).
The solution found on the wiki does not work:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Al … CM_Channel
    My asoundrc is as follows:
    pcm.!default {
    type hw
    card 1
    ctl.!default {
    type hw
    card 1
I cannot find many resources on this problem, so I'm not sure what other information I need to supply. Please notify me if further information is required, and I'll do my best to obtain it.

Can't help you with your problem, all I can do is to chime in to say I'm in the same boat. I've also tried 'arecorder' to see if I can grab the ALSA output, all to no avail. I have an ALC888 chip. I'm running openbox with ALSA, trying to capture the analog output. Any ideas out there?

  • TF2 crashes 1-10 minutes into game - maybe ALSA problem?

For past 3 months TF2 crashes repeatedly. This can happen almost immediately or after 10 minutes of play. This seems to have started after I messed around with ALSA so this is why I suspect it. Also always the error report contains:
"ALSA lib pcm.c:7339:(snd_pcm_recover) underrun occurred" for which I cannot find any solution on the web, despite a few reported problems. I tried resetting ALSA, deleated .asoundrc and in /etc but this has not helped. The rest of the error is below:
Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(gameoverlayui)/version(1.0_client)
    ALSA lib pcm.c:7339:(snd_pcm_recover) underrun occurred
    /home/mike/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/common/Team Fortress 2/hl2.sh: line 67:  7649 Segmentation fault      (core dumped) ${GAME_DEBUGGER} "${GAMEROOT}"/${GAMEEXE} "$@"
Game removed: AppID 440 "Team Fortress 2", ProcID 7649
I do not have pulseaudio installed.
    System: Intel i5,  HD4000
    Any advice appreciated.

Use code tags. Increase the period/buffer size (for example period_size 1024; buffer_size 4096; if it does not work double it). To get buffer and period sizes run speaker-test.

  • ALSA lib pcm.c - mute aplicactions after few underruns.

well, it's my first post here. i hope you can help me with this.
    i installed archlinux 2009.08 iso.
after install a wm (jwm), alsa-lib, alsa-utils, slim and X+hal i started to install my programs for listen mp3, office, etc.
i installed alsaplayer and the lib to play mp3. alsaplayer get muted after few seconds or minutes.
when i installed zsnes, the console output surprises me:
    ALSA lib pcm.c:7236:(snd_pcm_recover) underrun occured
zsnes get muted too after few seconds or minutes (randomly). while zsnes were sound, they were intermittent glitches in audio.
i thought that the zsnes error were relationed with the alsaplayer error, but when i launched alsaplayer from xterm, no output was generated.
but when i start mp3blaster, the outputs is the same that zsnes output and the unusual behavior is the same that alsaplayer has:
i had tried different things to fix it:
in slitaz2.0 STABLE i didn't have this problem, so, i search which are the version of alsa lib and utils that version 2.0 uses. they were alsa-lib-1.0.20 and alsa-utils-1.0.20.
so, i did a donwgrade to these version, but the same thing happened awaing, except by one detail:
    ALSA lib pcm.c:7234:(snd_pcm_recover) underrun occured
like the guy of this post (i never tried if the ethernet conection can do this).
i tried to run mi own version of zsnes (compiled in slitaz2), and the same thing happened again.
google don't know about this problem out of blending (this problem ocurre freccuently in blender), so i don't know wath to do. really, thanks for read, and excuse by english level, if something can't be understud.

So everything looks good there as far as I can tell, but here's the output I get from the terminal when Firefox is running:
    ALSA lib conf.c:3500:(_snd_config_evaluate) function
snd_func_card_driver returned error: No such device

ALSA lib pcm.c:2143:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM default
Also, when I shut down X I'm getting something similar:
waiting for X server to shut down ALSA lib confmisc.c:670:(snd_func_card_driver$
    ALSA lib conf.c:3500:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_card_driver retur$

ALSA lib conf.c:3968:(snd_config_expand) Evaluate error: No such device
ALSA lib pcm.c:2143:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM default
Any ideas? I should also qualify this with the statement that mpd is still playing music just fine, and I'm just not getting anything from web browsers.  Everything HAD worked for a few months now up until today though.  Thanks for any help.

Bump. I have the same issue... works as root but not as normal user.
    Any ideas?
    edit!
Nevermind, it worked. The wiki page meant I had to log out of X for changes to take effect, I just created a new xterm session.
In any case, this helped me figure out I'm not crazy, for anyone else who is having problems with sanity and alsa:

So I knew I should be permissioned, after that. Flipped to VT, hit cmus, and bam! it worked

  • TS1538 Hi, I have the problem which iTunes cannot detect my iPhone 4s. I tried the steps you have provided in your troubleshooting, but it won't work for me because the Apple Mobile Devilce is perfectly installed on my windows.

Hi, I have the problem which iTunes cannot detect my iPhone 4s. I tried the steps you have provided in your troubleshooting, but it won't work for me because the Apple Mobile Devilce is perfectly installed on my windows. However, the driver "Microsoft teredo Tunneling adapter" has a yellow exclamation mark, which i believe means it's not installed correctly or something is wrong with it. This driver is under the Network Adapters (Please see picture below).
This is what happens when I connect my iPhone 4s to my laptop (Windows 7 Starter 32-bit)
    1. The phone charges it's battery
    2. I can open it in My Computer and import/export media files.
    In iTunes
    3. It start to sync until step 3 then stops.
    4. The iPhone option with an arrow appears beside the iTunes Store, but when the arrow is clicked it disappears.
I hope you can provide me a solution for this problem.
    Thanks,
    Ralph

    Hi ralphagir,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
For your iTunes issue with it not recognizing your iPhone, I would go ahead and suggest deleting iTunes and all of its components from your Windows computer and installing fresh.
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
As far as the arrow button that you click and the iPhone disappears, it sounds like you may be clicking on the eject button. Please take a look at the following article for information on the eject button in iTunes.

If you used Bootcamp Assistant, did you download and install the Windows Support software (drivers) in accordance with the Bootcamp instructions?

  • Problems witch channels to the FICON SAN switches

We have some problems witch channels to the  FICON SAN switches: channel 56 on Mainframe1 to switch 5B5 (FDBELF5C1_VSAN500_DISK) and channel 28 (on Mainframe1) to switch 5B7 (FDBELF5C1_VSAN510_TAPE). Forr Mainframe2 the channels are 35 to 5B5 and 37 to 5B7.

We don't think that the problem is port related but switch related!
For the moment problems are present on only one of our 4 mainframe SAN directors. Firmware level of the directors was changed 3 weeks ago to NX-OS 4.2(7b).

    Problem solved after IODF weekend.
    Channels were toggled.

I have a BTHub4 - My iMac, iPhone, and children's iPads all connect to the internet no problem. I cannot get my 2 MacBook Pros or my partners MacBook Air to connect. Have tried diagnostics - says to change DNS but  it is correct. I have re-set both router and all laptops - no joy. They can all see the network but cannot connect.

This is extraordinary. I have moved the router and also tried resetting it to its factory strings.  We have had this router for over a year and all our devices have always worked. Now all four laptops will not connect to the internet. Only one oMac and our phones and iPad.
I have had far more devices running at once before but now all laptops are timing out on connection. Some say this iIP address is already being used but if I manually set to a slightly different IP address it does not help, noir if I manually set to the correct IP address. Why would all our laptops (four) suddenly be unable to connect?

  • Receiver channel cannot access folder

    Hi all,
my issue is about my ftp receiver channel. the channel cannot access a directory found in a server.
i am able to access the directory from an ftp cleint but the channel always get a time out due to an invalid address.
what is weird is that the channel is able to access the server but not the directory in the server.
i checked other issues in the forum but most wer due to wrong directory names and slashes...
    can anyone please guide me?
    thanks.

what is weird is that the channel is able to access the server but not the directory in the server.
    Try the below:
    1. Goto Start ---> run --> drivers --> etc --> hosts --> ADD YOUR HOST NAME AND IP OF THE SERVER HERE
2.Check the root for the folder to which the ftp has been given For eg: if the ftp is activated on the path C: driver\Inbox then in the communication channel just give the value \ and nothing else as it is directly accessing the folder and the path need not be given.
    This should help.
    Cheers
