Alter settings pdf after original save?

Using adobe acrobat 7.0 professional on mac.
I scanned something recently, saved it as a pdf. Upon the first time saving (every time with first save of new document) I had the options. To save as 5 version or later all that stuff! Once it has been saved as a pdf. no longer these options are available. When when using the command 'save as' and under the format drop-box 'format as pdf', to the right there is 'settings' button. Though this is faded and not available to select. It is available when saving it as other filetypes.
How can I format my document so it can send to windows?
Having trouble emailing to windows systems as they can't open.

Go in menu: Advanced>PDF Optimizer...
It will give you different settings to change, and after will take you with those settings to "Save as..." dialog box.
But I did not figure out so far what to do if I want to replace the previous settings to the new ones permanently. Where this change of "standart" preset to "custom" may be done?

  • Milo: "The settings you choose in Save Adobe PDF dialog...

Something has changed in CS4 for me on my XP based PC.
When I try to save a PSD as a PDF now, I get a box that pops up with the message
"The settings you choose in Save Adobe PDF dialog can override your current settings in the Save As dialog box".
    "OK" is the only option.
But beyond the fact that I don't know why this comes up and that I'm taken to another screen with the title "Save Adobe PDF"
where I have to click  "Save PDF", one of two things then happens:
    1)  I click Save PDF and no PDF is created in the folder OR
    2)  I click Save PDF, the PDF IS created, but my PSD goes away and I'm being show the .pdf file in Photoshop.
Hoping someone recognizes what could be behind all this.
In your response, please remember that I'm not all that much of a tech-y and my system knowledge isn't deep.
    Thank you so much!

***You chose File --> Save As... instead of Save Copy. Normal behavior - the PDF becomes your working file,
*** but if you ever saved your original PSD, it will still be there.
I've pasted a number of screen prints at http://www.improventures.com/temp/temp2.htm including one showing
that my version (11.0) of CS4 does not have a Save Copy option.  But I've been using Photoshop CS2 and CS4 for years
and I don't think I've ever had to do more than say "Save As..." and choose PDF to make a copy of the current
PSD as a PDF without leaving the PSD.  It certainly works that way for .jpg, making a copy without leaving the
original PSD!  But I guess it's possible that I've done this infrequently enough that I have that wrong...but it still doesn't
explain why I'm being taken to the "Save Adobe PDF" screen instead of the "Save As..." like I had been.
Or why I'm missing the Save Copy option you mention.
****Your PDF options have a conflict somewhere, so no file is saved. Hard to tell  without seeing your settings.
I've pasted a BUNCH of those setting on the webpage above, hoping to help diagnose this because I'm sure stumped.  Though I may have found it...I have a feeling one cannot create a PDF from a multi-layered PSD.  When I saved a copy and flattened it, that version created the PDF correctly!
*** As for the warnings - normal and "good software design" Simply have them not  show again by clicking the checkbox, if they are annoying you...
oh, now, I may not be tech-y, but that much I knew.  :-)  he he.   It's not the fact that it's telling me this that's the problem.  It's the fact that either I should only be taken to the Save As screen or that I think I have something "off" in my PDF settings, as you say.
    Thanks, Myl!

  • When saving a PDF file, it saves multiple of the exact same documents, why/or how do I change those settings?

When savind a PDF file, it saves multiple of the same document, why?  Are there settings to adjust or what am I doing wrong?

This might help - I'm not sure:

  • Users are not able to save pdfs after editing - Adobe XI. They do not use the Win7 explorer preview pane.  If they completely close the Win7 explorer window, they can save - Adobe XI thinks the preview pane is open when it is not.

Users are not able to save pdfs after editing.  Product is Adobe XI, OS is Win7 64-bit.  When saving, an error pops up that the file cannot be saved, it is in use.  If they save as a different name, it works.  Found several forums/blogs/etc that suggest the problem can be solved by closing the Window7 explorer preview pane.  They don't use the preview pane.  I figured out that if they completely close the explorer window, they can save.  But this means they have to open and close explorer for each file.

Hi, I would like to chime in and say that this problem has not yet been resolved. It is extremely annoying when all I do is highlight a document in the file explorer and I get 5 errors (evenly spaced out about 20 seconds apart telling me that "Microsoft
Word Cannot Start (24)". These errors persist even after windows explorer and word are closed. And I don't want to start terminating processes just to make them stop every time.
I'm a little frustrated with this problem and the other problems I've encountered with MS Office 2013 with file corruption, crashing, 2010 compatibility issues, and the whole host of errors when trying to actually do WORK with Word.
I do work with long, complex reports in Word because that's the best way available for myself (and my coworkers) to use. However, I sincerely regret upgrading to Office 2013 because of it. I love it, all of its features, and its interface, but I simply cannot
    use it without problems.

My problem is that I cannot save my document to pdf using  cs5 presets as i was able to do in cs4.
This is very disturbing as I just finished two newsletters, 40pages and 20 pages and cannot get them to my printer as pdfs.
I tried opening them in cs4, but could not do so.
It would be terrible to have to redo them.

  • How can you disable Adobe Reader from opening a file right after you save it as a pdf?

    Hi,
I often save word files as pdf files and right after I save them as pdfs it opens the file in adobe reader. How can I disable this?
    Thanks

Ahh, but that's the design function of any PDF viewer add-on to a browser.
To avoid -- Use the browser feature that saves a file to the local machine.
Then open the file with the appropriate application.
If your machine/device does not support this then you'd want to change to one that supports what you want eh.
    Be well...

  • My iPod now loses my Klondike scores/settings after I "save and exit".  How can I fix this?

After my last iTunes sync, my iPod loses my Klondike scores/settings after I "save and exit".  How can I fix this?

I'd try a hard reset, you have nothing to lose.  If that doesn't help and you can shut off the iPod (i.e. the white screen becomes black) you can try to recover it: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
If that still does not fix the problem and it was Apple that replaced the iPod, return it to them, you have a 90 Day Warranty.  If you replaced the screen yourself,  I have no idea if you did something wrong in the repair or if the replacement screen was defective.  That is the main risk of a self repair.  I doubt whether Apple will do an out-of-warranty repair on an iPod that has been opened, but you can try.

  • Quark / PDF Printing Problems (Save as PDF in OS X)

I upgraded from Quark 4.1 to 6.5 about a year ago, and ever since then the files I create and print don't look as good. The primary issue seems to be color -- colors don't come out as deep, there seems to be less color saturation, sometimes colors are just pretty far off. I'm working in Mac OS 10.4.8.
For many years my method has been to design documents and output as PDFs to be professionally printed. These days my PDFs don't print as well. I suspect that the problem has to do with the process of creating the PDF. In Quark 6.5 I create PDFs by selecting "Save as PDF" from Quark's Print menu. Back when I was using 4.1, since Quark didn't have a built-in PDF-creator, I would go into the Chooser, select AdobePS as my printer, and then just choose Print in Quark and it would "print" to a PDF.
One other problem I've had since the upgrade is that the PDFs Quark creates are HUGE files -- tens or hundreds of megs -- often too large to email. When I used to create PDFs from the identical Quark files using 4.1, the resulting PDFs printed much better and were much smaller files (often far less than 1 meg). Solving the color problem is a higher priority for me than solving the file size issue, though.
I've spent a lot of time trying to troubleshoot this with our local printer here in Albany, NY (the same guy who printed my stuff in the old days, when it came out looking a lot better). Things we've tried that haven't seemed to solve the problem:
    - Increasing the LPI to 300
    - Checking the box for Full Resolution Tiff Output
    - Experimenting with OPI active and not
    - Experimenting with different PDF options like "Save as PDF," "Compress PDF," "PDF-X," etc. (Compress PDF does result in smaller PDFs, but the quality of the resulting prints is even worse)
Also, if anyone has suggestions about Quark-specific forums I could post this to, let me know. I tried creating an account on the discussion forms on Quark's website, but I don't receive their confirmation email to confirm my account.
Any advice greatly appreciated -- thanks so much!

    Marshall,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
colin clarke1’s info is spot on. I will add a bit more. Acrobat Professional includes Distiller in addition to a print driver called Adobe PDF 7.0 (version number matches version of Acrobat). I think the print driver installs automatically, but if not, you should choose to install it and then it will show in your list of printers. This will allow you to make PDFs from Quark XPress much as you did with Quark 4.1.
Distiller comes with some pre-defined Settings (formerly know as Job Options) for different types of printing, i.e., Smallest file (low-resolution like online viewing), Standard, High Quality, Press Quality and others. These Settings are general standards in the industry in terms amount and type of image compression, font embedding, color management, compatibility with previous Acrobat versions and etc.
colin clarke1’s method of saving a Quark doc as a PostScript and then distilling it is one method. (You can set this in your Quark Preferences.) Alternatively, you could do the following within Quark XPress…
    (a) Select Print, which brings up the Print window. At the bottom of the window are some buttons. Click on Page Setup and in its window, for Format for: select the Adobe PDF 7/8, the appropriate Paper size and then OK.
    (b) Returning to the Quark print window, make all the necessary choices for Layout, Setup, Output, Options, Layers, Bleed, OPI and Profiles.
    (c) Next, click on the button Printer (at the bottom) which brings up a Mac OS print window. Click to the right of Printer and select Adobe PDF 7/8. Next, click and hold on Copies & Pages for a drop-down list of options and select PDF Options. Click on the bar to the right of Adobe PDF Settings and a list of Distiller Settings will pop up and select the one that best fit the type of printing you are doing, e.g., Press Quality. If you want to see the PDF version afterwards, then select Acrobat for After PDF Creation. Click Ok.
    (d) Returning to the Quark print window, click Print button (lower right). A Save window appears for you to name your document and select where you wish to save in on your computer. (If you choose to see the PDF afterwards, then Acobat will launch and the PDF will then appear in Acrobat.)
You could learn more about the latest version of Acrobat 8.0 (released November 2006) by Adobe’s “tour” at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatpro/productinfo/features/
    Hope this helps.

  • How to sign a pdf file and save it directly back to sharepoint site?

    Hello,
I own a Sharepoint site for testing. It is installed in my computer with Sharepoint 2010 (WSS). What I want to do is to find a way to achieve a signing function for pdf file type on sharepoint.
By refer to this site below, the site has been able to recognize pdf file type and open it and edit it directly on the sharepoint site.
    http://www.portalsolutions.net/Blog/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=40
I can edit the pdf file by checking out and then the modification will be save directly back to the pdf file in the shared document library when I am done. Now the problem is, I cannot save the pdf directly back to sharepoint after I inserted a digital signature
    to the pdf file.
Everytime I inserted a digital signature to the pdf file, a "save as..." window would pop up and asked me to save the signed pdf file as another file in my local computer, so the changes were not applied to the original pdf file on the shared document library
of my sharepoint site. I have to upload the local signed version back to the site and replace the old one manually.
    Any suggestion? Thank you.
    Mengxin Wu

    Hi,
According to my analysis, for Digital Signatures: Adobe has changed the behavior around digital signatures and SharePoint-hosted PDF files. Now, when digitally signing a SharePoint-hosted PDF file, it will be saved directly to SharePoint if that PDF file
is already checked out. If not, the user will be prompted to check it out. When digitally signing a SharePoint-hosted PDF file in Acrobat X, Version 10.0, the user would be prompted to save that file locally and would then need to upload it separately to SharePoint
    as a new version.
I suggest that you use Acrobat X, then check the result. For more information about Acrobat X, please refer to
    http://blogs.adobe.com/pdfitmatters/2011/06/whats-new-in-acrobat-x-version-10-1.html

  • How to modify a PDF after signing

Our company has recently been upgrading from Adobe 8 to Adobe X (more specifically 10.1.10.) In Adobe 8 there is an ability to add/subtract pages after a signature has been signed, however this does not work in Adobe X with the default settings and I have not located a way to adjust this. Within the company there is a department in legal/accounting that handles the creation of PDF documents from basically start to finish. During their creation process there needs to be two signature: one for the creator of the document (this field is important enough that I cannot simply copy an ID/key so that anyone can sign anyone’s name however it is not important enough that it needs to lock a document or prevent any changes including adding/subtracting pages.) The creator will start a document sign and then pass it on where it will be modified, pages will be added/subtracted and words may be rearranged. Once it has been revised a couple to even a few time a second signature will lock the document. Is this still possible in Adobe Acrobat X Pro or Standard? Thank you in advance.

AFAIK the signature validation rules were significantly strengthen in Acrobat 9 and later. I do not remember whether adding pages was among those. BTW, by "subtracting pages"do you mean "deleting pages"? You could never delete a page in a signed document without invalidating the signature. Generally, in order to be able to modify signed PDF the original PDF, before the first signature, needs to be certified with certification permissions for specific actions, like permission to add more signature and fill form fields. You can certify the original PDF in Acrobat and its UI gives you a few certification permissions options. Adding pages is not in this list. LiveCycle has a more elaborate set of certification permissions but this is a fairly expensive solution and I do not remember whether Adding pages is in its permissions list.

  • Cannot convert web to PDF after updating to Firefox 10.0.2

I have Acrobat X Pro 10.2.1 (student edition). In Firefox 10.0.2 I have enabled Adobe Acrobat - Create PDF 1.2. I can click to convert a web page, get a dialog box for filename & location, but after clicking save, the dialog box disappears and nothing happens (no conversion). Also, when I try to choose 'Preferences' from the drop-down box of the ConvertPDF icon, nothing happens. [Note that the conversion and preferences work fine in IE.]
I tried disabling all other Firefox add-ons -- no change to the problem. Is there some setting/option in the new Firefox that I need to alter (or make an exception) for this to work?
Also tried to 'repair' the X Pro installation (even from CD), but that did not change anything. And both X Pro and Firefox are up-to-date regarding updates / patches. ... Do I need to completely uninstall and reinstall X Pro?

I'm on a Mac, so take this with a grain of salt...
Is there a Windows Firefox 11 update? That's what I'm using and Create PDF 1.2 works just fine.
    Check for updates, maybe?
