Alternative to Motion 4?

I'm working on a web site and would love to find a cheaper alternative to Motion 4.  I don't need the entire suite of Final Cut and really just need/want the capabilities found in Motion 4.  Are there any alternatives that are available on the Mac App store or for purchase elsewhere? I have an old PC copy of DreamWeaver but never took the time to learn how to use it and am also looking for something that has the simplicity of typical Apple programs.
Thank you for your suggestions!
Derek

There's no direct application of Motion to Web design except as to build video effects. There is no analog for Dreamweaver in the Apple lineup.
Buy Adobe Flash.

  • PVC2300 - Alternative to Motion Detection Event / FTP Upload

    Hi Cisco Community,
My apologies if I am not posting this in the correct section / allowed to post here.
I've got a PVC2300 mounted inside a pelco enclosure that is positioned 6 meters high. Sometimes the motion detection event doesn't work to well (this is due to the fact that its in an enclosure and pointed out towards the ocean at a beach location).
Also the motion detection event is pretty much useless at night without surrounding illumination.
In Australia we also have severe lack of broadband speed and also download allowance, therefore it is not practical to broadcast streaming video (we would get charged excessive fees for exceeding download quotas and only one person could view the camera at any one time).
I've written a custom windows service that reads the PVC2300's MJPEG stream over http at a specified interval and saves a single .JPG file in which the windows service uploads the .JPG file to a specified website. This means that you will always get an updated image from the camera every 5 minutes, rather than based on motion detection. It would have been nice if cisco / linksys implemented this within the camera's firmware (maybe in a future version?).
Anyway, communities share things with each other, so i've made the software freely available to anyone who wishes to use it. I would appreciate any feedback from Cisco / Linksys.

You came to the right place and thats a very cool post IMO.
First, thanks for using Cisco Small Business products and you can look forward enhancements and options in our line, of course.  I think I noticed your other post mentioning you are in Australia?  We have a few really top BU folks (TMEs and Biz Dev) down under and they are very active in the BU solutions area for Small Business.   Do you know Leah Davis and Dave Harper (they are Participants on this community as well)?
In any event, I think compressed streaming is a very valid design idea and we are actually looking at similar partners in the US experimenting with the same.  In one Partners case he has a lightweight application (java) that runs on your mobile and allows all the mobile streams to come compressed from a server farm.
Typical use case is a Day Care where 15 parents want to watch the same camera, and the compression benefit becomes crucial in scale.   But your case is a financial one (therefore good too) where you would have to pay for streaming video.
While we dont offer this today (the external managed service that is), I am sure you have played with the camera GUI and realize you can try some of the following to reduce bandwidth
1- lower quality of video (resolution, FPS, illuminate Audio, etc)
2- reduce motion detection size (seconds)
3- Purchase a local NSS2100 or NSS3x00 to store High Quality video on the LAN and only alert for motion via email (not realy friendly for remote monitoring I admit).
For sensitivity in an enclosure, have you played with Sensitivity settings thresholds in the Camera GUI under motion detection?
For night illumination without an external IR Illuminator, have you tried the 'night schedule', which activates (or deactivates) the IR Cut Filter?
For the periodic updates, I'll let Davin Oishi comment as he is about ready to announce the PVC300 and I know it offers a browser based periodic refresh and I am not sure how far he has extended that to an API for external access.....
    Thanks for your post

  • Any way to make Motion Effect work in CS3?

I had some problems with animated motion effects in CS2, but now they seem to be even worse in CS3... Along with all the other CS3 problems I've encountered, I'm considering going back to CS2 - but I thought I'd try here first...
With an interlaced video project (NTSC SD) anything (title, photo, or video) that is put in motion using keyframes for the built-in Motion Effect comes out VERY bad.
I tried a test with a clip that is only three frames long, consisting of white box approx. 100x100 pixels (made via Titler) and starting at frame 0, offset horizontally by 360 and at the 3rd frame (frame 2) offset horizontally by 380. (20 pixel shift)
FIRST PROBLEM: Look at the frame 0 and frame 1 in the program monitor at 100%. Now try any other magnification - completely different results!!
SECOND PROBLEM: To export these three frames, I have to set the work area bar to include FOUR frames, because if I animate motion of a clip and then export, the last frame is SOMETIMES not included in the output file. If you're playing along, output five frames just to be sure.
THIRD PROBLEM: Open the clip in Photoshop. (The only application in CS3 that appears to work correctly.) At first glance, frame one appears to be interlaced because of the motion. But it's not. The second field is nowhere near where it should be in time relative to the movement. If you use an actual photo instead of a white box, you can see how badly it's mangled. (Not just fields in wrong position, but badly mangled.)
FOURTH PROBLEM: Frame 1 and 2 (the 2nd and third frame) are also badly mangled.
FIFTH PROBLEM: The fourth frame (frame 3) consists of the the final resting place of the object - BUT IT SHOULDN'T BE THERE AT ALL! (The 4th frame is blank.)
I know, I know, long rant... I'm just getting so fed up with all of the problems with CS3...
Anyway, are there other alternatives that will work on interlaced video??? (For now, I had to create a different project that was progressive, and render to a temp file to import into the interleaved project. It looks better, but not nearly as smooth of motion as it should be.)

    Please provide
these details to help us help you.

  • HT200246 how do i set the decode template in motion 5 to pal

How do change the frame rate of the decode template from 29.97 secs to 25 secs in Motion 5?

Create a new project @ 25fps. Copy and paste the Decoder layers to the new project.
Alternatively, create a PAL project in FCPX and bring the 29.97 Decoder QT into the new project.
It could also be done in Compressor.

  • IPhone 6 Plus IOS v8.1 Slow Motion BROKEN

Film in either of the two slow motion speeds and plays back ok on phone.  I put the files in the computer (grab the raw file via explorer), on Win 7 Professional, and played with both windows media player AND Quicktime player (up to date players) and the videos play either no slow motion, plays alternating between fast and slow, one time it played slow but had normal voice pitch, other times played slow with low voice pitch.  On youtube, they don't play in slow motion.  One I shot vertically (which I did just as a test) and it was sideways in the computer, however, youtube rotated it so it's vertical but it is not in HD and it does not play back in slow motion.  This same file that was sideways in my computer stopped playing after about 2 seconds in the computer, but played through ok in the phone.  I noticed that as the video plays in the phone, there are blue vertical lines below the left/right scrub/scroll bar for the video.  This can be set to play only a portion in slow motion.  But WHY does it start each video with the ends nudged in so the first 3 sec is regular speed and the last 2 are also reg speed also w/the slo-mo in between?  It defaults to this each time an you have to spread it out to get all slow motion..
In Win XP, some of the video files don't show up.  It shows .aae files with corresponding numbers to the videos, but most of the videos are not there.
I think this is a huge software bug that needs to be tested.  I updated the os on my new phone before I put anything into my phone.  Everything else has been perfect till this.  HELP!

You said, "...plays back ok on phone."  That's where Apple's software stops.  Your problems with Win 7, Win XP, Quicktime, and YouTube need to be addressed on forums for those programs and/or sites.  Presumably the issue has already been resolved by users on those sites, with different solutions for each.

  • Quicktime squishes to 4:3 after Motion parameters changed

I videoed something using two DV camcorders simultaneously and both were set to 16:9.
I captured the two lots of footage having specified DV-PAL Anamorphic in Easy Setup.
I synchronized the footage on V1 and V2 and, using "Image+Wirefire", I manipulated the corners to show both on the Canvas.
I then chopped out bits here and there in V2 to show the event from different angles as it proceeded.
To review what I had done I exported to Quicktime and all looked fine - two small 16:9 windows, V1 showing continuously and V2 appearing and disappearing exactly as hoped for.
Next step was to resize the video images back to full screen. I doubled clicked a clip, clicked on the Motion tab, clicked on the red cross opposite 'Basic Motion' which set the scale back to 100 and the Center to 0 and 0.
(At this point I would have used Paste Attributes to promulgate the new attributes to other clips but for the purposes of this question I currently only have two short clips on my Timeline)
For the next review I once more exported to Quicktime and to my consternation I see that the whole little movie has been squished to 4:3 format.
I checked the Aspect Ratio under Distort and that remains as 0 both before and after clicking on the red cross mentioned above.
Instead of pressing the red cross I have also tried changing the Basic Motion Scale to 100 and Center to 0, 0 by hand but the subsequent Quicktime movie gives the same squished result.
I have the same problem with AVCHD footage that I have used Log and Transfer to acquire.
Is this a bug? Is there a setting in Quicktime that I've not come across?
If you have time then could you too try putting a short clip on V1 and on V2 and trying it. And please let me know if you get the same result..? It's all very worrying as I do a lot of multi-camcorder stuff.
Many thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for that Tom. I was thinking of iDVD but from what you say it looks like I should be looking for an alternative. Is there another product that is recommended around here? I'd be most interested in knowing about it. Something that maybe takes the MOV file, allows me to specify animated menu buttons, has a reasonable range of modifiable menu templates, is of reasonable cost and maintains a good level of image quality?
I'm very new to FCE but I'm already much enjoying the easier way of editing multitrack video and stability by comparison with Premiere Elements.
I very much appreciate your advice and the superb support that is so apparent round here.

  • Motion tracking in PE12

How can I only get text to show during motion tracking? - I don't want the animation which is included!
    Best regards...

    SG
    On what Premiere Elements version?
I am talking specifically about your second option for this Premiere Elements 12 Motion Tracking question....
The other option is to create the title BEFORE you do your set up your Motion Tracking, and then just drag it from the Project Assets panel onto your Track Object.
I see no opportunity to get to Project Assets to get at the title/text without shutting down the Motion Tracking workspace. But, if you insist it can be done, we will give it another look with Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 7 64 bit.
One alternative that does work (that you did not mention) was
    a. create a text title
    b. save the text as a .prtl file
    c. place the saved .prtl file in the path
    Local Disc C
    Program Files
    Adobe
    Adobe Premiere Elements 12
    Clip Arts
    Common
and in the Common Folder place a folder named something like My Text, with My Text Folder containing the .prtl file.
That My Text category and the text file in it will show up in Graphics from which you can drag the text to the screen at the appropriate prompt in Motion Tracking scheme. In this approach, the text becomes a permanent and reusable resource under the Graphics Tab.

  • Slow motion and speed changes blurry jittery - SOLUTION!

I Have had a few issues with slo mo and sped up stuff going blurry or jittery on me.
This is from HD from a HC3 down converted (camera does this) to SD anamorphic (pal).
I think i have found the solution - and welcome any exra content from more experienced heads than mine.
Of course there are limitations to how far you can slo mo before you get the jitters - anyway- here is my hot tip!
Change your speed (fit to fill , or modify speed) of the clip in the canvas (leaners - watch your sound timing - it can be thrown off if you have locked off ausio tracks) open up your clip from the canvas by double cliking it, tap the motion tab, cross the motion blur box - adjust the sample setting from 4 to 32 (i dont know exactly what this does but this is the key!, drop motion blur down to 0 %.
RENDER! voila! This has quickly resulted in some speed changed clips that hold their form rather nicely (no blurring or strobing , jitters etc - that have plagued me in the past - i'm doing lots of sport stuff where speed changes are common)
Hope this helps other relative newbs out there! And if anyone would care to comment on why this works i would be all ears!

I know what you mean, I end up with an extra frame if I set an in and out point then insert/overwrite replace or superimpose.
I find the quickest work flow is to
    0. mark the in point at start of clip
    1. copy the clip, command c
    2. go to the end of the sequence, end
    3. paste clip
    4. change speed, look at duration of clip, change speed %, command j
    5. change duration back to original duration,
    6. cut clip from end of time line,
    7. return to in point and paste clip.
I find this does give me control over the clip, does not affect the timeline and is frame accurate.
I agree you should be able to change the clip speed without affecting the duration.
    The alternative is as Andy described, fit to fill, here is an alternitive way of doing/describing this process;
adjust the out point of the clip to the new point you want,
move the clip out of the space on the timeline where you want the clip with the speed change to go,
place the CTI in the space where you want the new clip to go,
double click on the clip you want to adjust, opening it in the viewer,
drag the clip from the viewer to the canvas and the fit to fill option will appear along with all of the other options,
this will also do what you want, I believe there is no one click solution.
Someone please prove me wrong! I would love to be able to "command j" in to the speed dialog box, click on a check box that says keep duration or in/out points and simply change the duration.

  • Imported video has "motion-blur" artifacts, but original is fine.

    Hi,
I've just purchased a Samsung SMX-F30 standard-def camcorder. I've shot a few clips and decided to test its compatibility with iMovie. iMovie recognised the camcorder with no problems and imported all my clips without any hassle. However, when I play the clips in iMovie if the clip has any motion, say an arm or hand being waved or head moving, then the image blurs in a way I can only describe as "interlace staggering". That is, alternate lines in the fram shift position left and right alternately. This is really annoying as you can imagine!
A few details about my setup other than the machine details below:
    Clips recorded in 4:3
    iMovie defaults when importing
iMovie version is 8.0.2 (I think)
iMovie imports to an external firewire 500GB hard drive
Clips not analysed for stabilisation after import
Camera records in "H.264/AVC Format" according to the manual
    Recording at approx 5Mbps
Camera was using built-in electronic anti-shake
I hope someone can suggest a few things to try as I've just returned to movie making after owning a Mini-DV based camcorder 10 years ago!
    Thanks
    Stuart

His book gives specific directions and more info on AVCHD with frame rates and bits...so definately buy the book. Your question: It kinda depends on your set up. Many people need to import into imovie 9 just so they can get an editable copy of the footage. So then you make your way over to the events folder and import the events into another program for turning it into progressive and de-interlacing it. You have to becareful because you will have duplicate footage.
He goes into details on how to do this. I have a different workflow because i import on a different machine using imovie6 since i am working with tapes. Then i convert it before i import it again into imovie. My DV footage doesn't get motion blur though so i am only doing this workflow to ensure no quality loss.

  • Adding titles/project to FCPX from Motion 5...

I suppose this question could go in the Motion forum or FCPX, but it seems to belong here more, I think.
I've created a brief project (about 14 seconds) in Motion 5 that I want to put at the beginning of videos I edit in FCPX.  It's just some titles that come across te screen with some animation and sound effects.  I don't need the ability to edit the Motion project within FCPX (it will remain the same every time I use it).
What is the best way to use it in FCPX?  I'm guessing that maybe I should output it as some particular type of video file and add it each time to my FCPX videos from the Event Browser just like it was video footage?  Any advice as to file type, etc., would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

Another alternative is to publish the M5 project as a FCP generator.
I use that approach with opens for a couple of reasons: easier to locate (for my set up); and on occasion I may need to tweak something for a specific show in the future in some unanticipated way.
    Good luck.

    hey guys,
I'm trying to do an ultra slow motion scene for a video, a pill dropping into a glass of water. i'm shooting it with a canon 7d at 60 FPS and for some reason i'm getting this awful warping...not smooth at all. i uploaded a video to show you what kind of result i was getting: http://vimeo.com/37878559
also, i'm using twixtor...maybe there is a better alternative to accomplish this shot through final cut pro without using a 3rd party plug-in such as twixtor? please help!

  • Final cut to Motion Freezes

I'm trying to send a clip to Motion, but every time I try to send something, I get the color wheel, and Final Cut freezes. The clip is only 6 seconds long, and Final cut used to send things without a problem. Anybody have any advice?

Would be helpful to know what format your clip is (remember that formats like H.264, Mpeg4 etc are delivery not editing formats) and if you have tried things like [trashing preferences|http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm] or creating a new project and import the clip in the newly created project.
If you need to keep going as an alternative you may export your 6 seconds as QT movie (not conversion) self-contained, which will not affect quality and import that in Motion.

  • Recording Smart Phone - full motion not capturing stylus movements

I am trying to create a recording that shows the movements of a stylus on a smart phone. I have the smart phone connected using active sync and am using pocket controller to project onto my computer. All of the captures work fine if i use the mouse to make the movements.
However, i want show how someone can use the stylus to transcribe right on the phone, rather than flipping out their keyboard.
For some reason, i can't get the full motion recording to capture the stylus movements.
    any suggestions?
    Thanks so much
    Lynn

    Hi Lynn
I find that as good as Captivate is, it falls short on full motion. So you may wish to investigate other alternatives for those full motion bits, then drop them into the Captivate slides for playback. I've done this using Techsmith's Camtasia Studio. You might try that. Not sure if the trial will watermark things or whatever. You might also investigate Jing or Screenr. Perhaps either one of those will produce a SWF you could drop into Captivate.

  • Track motion - working but AE stops responding so must force quit

    Hi,
    I'm on:
    AE CC 2014 v13.0
PC with Nvidia k4000 and 32GB RAM
    Working with 4k R3D footage.
I'm using track motion (transform - position, scale and rotation) on a precomped layer that has 2 circle effects on black background. (I'm trying to extract warp stabilizer data because the stabilizer works great for 98% of the shot but does something silly in the middle of the shot so I want to key frame the stabilization).
The tracker seems to be working but after a while I can't stop the tracker or do anything else within AE. The program hasn't crashed but it fails to respond to any commands. Even once the tracker gets to the end of the clip and stops I still can't do anything.
Really I just need the position, scale and rotation data from an applied warp stabilization of a certain clip. Anyone have an alternative way of doing this?
Really wish warp stabilizer had some key frame control!
    Thanks,
    Josh

Take your RED footage out of the equation. this stuff is flaky in CC 2014 and may have all sorts of ill side effects. Also check the track settings and the duration. Perhaps it's simply too long and AE takes forever to create those gigazillion keyframes...

  • Animation not carried over from Motion to FCP

In my FCP project, I sent a clip to Motion. In Motion, I imported another motion file of a car with spinning wheels that I made earlier and used that in the new Motion clip, along with some additional animation. Now, when I go back to FCP the car is visible, the additional animation is also visible, but not the spinning wheels. Is it not possible to embed Motion files within Motion?
When I export the clip from Motion directly to a QuickTime movie, everything is fine. But I'd rather don't go that route because it's much easier to move between FCP and Motion automatically.
Can someone please enlighten me? Thanks!

I'm guessing Final Cut is not referring back to the Motion file correctly.  If that is the case here's a fix.
Open your Motion file back up (recent projects if you aren't sure what it is) and resave it by a different name somewhere you can easily find it.  Alternatively you can export is a ProRes4444 clip if you don't want to have to render it on your FCP timeline.
Return to the clip in Final Cut.  Control-click on the clip that should be a Motion document and pick "Reconnect Media."  Point Final Cut to the resaved/exported Motion file you created.  You may have to uncheck the box about showing only media with the same reel name.  Hit Connect.
