Am not asked if I want to save tabs at the end of a session and therefore the tabs are lost

I work on a Mac. With firefox version 3.6 when I hit "quit firefox" a window opened asking if I wanted to save my tabs. Clicking "save session" saved my open tabs for the next session. With firefox version 4.0.1 no window opens and the session ends. The next session begins with only my home page open. How can I save my open tabs in this version?

Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.
Another possibility is to use:
* [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Menu_differences Firefox > Preferences] > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"
Make sure that you do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the 'Browsing History' when you close Firefox.

  • On exit, I am not asked if I want to save existing tabs and it closes all of them without saving. How do I get F-F to save my tabs on exit?

I upgraded from version 3.5 In that version when I wanted to quit for the day, I could hit exit and it would ask me if I wanted to quit or save tabs and exit.
In version 4 when I hit file, then exit, it does not ask if I want to save the tabs that are open, it just closes everything and does not save them. When I restart, I get a new tab window, but none of the other tabs I was working on are there.
I need to keep the tabs I am working on available to me; that is what I liked best about the old version.

Firefox now always stores the old session, and you can access it by going to the History menu and selecting "Restore Previous Session"
If you want Firefox to display the message to save the session, it can be turned back on by changing some preferences.
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
    # Locate the preference '''browser.tabs.warnOnClose''', if its value is set to '''false''', double-click on it to change its value to '''true'''
    # Repeat this for these 3 preferences '''browser.warnOnQuit''', '''browser.warnOnRestart''' and '''browser.showQuitWarning'''
If you always open the last set of tabs, an alternative approach is this:
    # Click the orange Firefox button, then select options to open the options window
    # Go to the General panel
    # Change the setting "When Firefox starts" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

  • Firefox does not ask whether I want to save multiple tabs when I close, and I must sign in to every website every time I go there (even ones that I've been to 100 times). Why? How do I fix this?

This happened very suddenly. I have gone through Preferences carefully twice, checking all settings. Safari is not giving me similar problems so I assume the problem is with Firefox.

You can reset the warn prefs on the about:config page via the right-click context menu.

The website may be using autocomplete=off to prevent Firefox from saving the name and password.
You can remove autocomplete=off with a bookmarklet to make Firefox save the name and password.

Instead of saving my work I continue to get a "could not complete your request because of a program error. My work can't be saved. I tried downloading the Creative Cloud and tried both settings, save to the cloud and do not save to the cloud. Either way I cannot save my work and I am stuck. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Sorry, but I don't understand. PSE has nothing at all to do with creative cloud. If you're saying that you can't save work in any program, that's probably something wrong with your OS X installation. If you just are having a problem in PSE, the first thing to do is to go to the editor's preferences>general, click this button, and restart the editor:

  • When shutting down, FF does not save tabs or ask if I want to save them.

Several times recently, when shutting down, the small window asking if I want Firefox to save tabs does not appear, and the tabs are lost.

One of the changes in Firefox 4: '''''by default''''' Firefox 4 does not display the "Save Tabs and Exit" warning message when closing multiple tabs, but it can be turned back on by changing some preferences.
*<u>Saving tabs was not removed from Firefox 4</u>, but it works a bit differently.
**By default, Firefox 4 will not ask to save tabs, but instead it will always save your tabs on exit. You can restore them next time by choosing "Restore Previous Session" from the History menu, or pressing the restore button on Firefox's default home page.
**''<u>Note: This was a decision by the developers. On this forum, we are all '''uncompensated volunteers''' here to help other users. The developes/employees of Mozilla/Firefox rarely, if ever visit here.</u>''
To display the "Save Tabs and Exit" message when closing multiple tabs, you can do the following:
#Type '''''about:config''''' in the URL/Location/Address bar and press the Enter key
#Accept the warning message (promise to be careful)
    #The preferences page/list will open
    #Filter = '''''browser.tabs.warnOnClose'''''
#If its value is set to false, double-click on it (in the lower panel) to toggle its value to true
#Repeat steps 4 and 5 for these following 3 preferences also:
    #*'''''browser.warnOnQuit'''''
    #*'''''browser.warnOnRestart'''''
    #*'''''browser.showQuitWarning'''''

Thank you Pat..that was very kind of you to help. And yes-it does happen with every pdf. But you're right-if I just say yes one time..then I'm not prompted the next time I open that particular pdf-but it does make me confirm I want to write over the same name the file had already in order to save it.
I made all my pdf's with the Chrome save as pdf command..never had a error message in prior Acrobat when closing the file.

  • After printing, Pages asks if I want to save changes.

When I print a document from Pages and then close the document, Pages always asks if I want to save changes. I can save the document, print it, and immediately try to close it and I still get the warning message. Is there a reason that Pages doesn't already know it's been saved?

There is no such feature and my guess is that happily, this behavior will not change.
It's the same for every Apple program.

  • Firefox doesn't ask if I want to save sites when I close it and allways comes up the same three unwanted sites when I open it again.

It used to re-boot with the tabs and sites I had asked it to save when I closed down last. Now when I close it doesn't ask if I want to 'save tabs'. And it re-boots with the same three sites which I must have saved once months ago, without asking. I've tried deleting the unwanted sites from 'history' but it still somehow finds them. Not a big deal, but irritating, so if someone can help, I'd like to be able to fix it - Robinmarriage

I couldn't find a way to resolve the problem through firefox. The saving or not saving passwords with or without asking was ridiculous. However, I did find a solution, a firefox add on called Last Pass. I've been using it now for a couple of weeks and love it. I only have to enter the main password for my Last Pass acct and from there any site I go to Last Pass captures my info, then asks if I want it saved. Give it a try it's really easy and does what it is supposed to do. It even gave me the option of disconnecting firefox's not so reliable password mgr.
