Amarok crashing on me :(

Hey,
I've been using amarok for like 3 days and I already like it very much. The thing is that when I run for the first time as a normal user it runs perfectly stable. unfortunately, when I close it and then open it again it crashes right at the startup :?
Running as root I don't see this happening.
I don't have kde installed, but all the relevant stuff like kde-libs or kde-base is installed anyway, because I use k3b(great app!) and quanta.
Here's the output:
[amaroK] Connecting to /home/dreameen/.kde/socket-DreaM/amarok.loader_socket
[amaroK] Starting amarokapp..

Now what, I feel like i'm breaking new ground here.
Name           : amarok-devel
Version        : 1.1.cvs20041011-1
Update: I've made symbolic link to libFLAC.so.6 and it works and the problem with amarok crashing is gone. yuppi )
And pacman -S kde still gives me about 86 Mb to download. So i guess it's not so bad after all.
amarok-devel-1.1.cvs20041011-1 ????
in extra, there is amarok 1.2.beta4
in unstable, there is amarok-devel 1.1.cvs20050128-1
both run fine without any symbolic links of libs
EDIT: when did you last time updated your repository db's?
I've tried two servers anthesis and chemnitz.de and both had the versions that I mentioned earlier. Anyway it's time to change to some more up-to-date servers like...darkstar? Yes, it has the newer versions up so upgrading wasn't a problem at all.
Unfortunately, the 'unstable/amarok-devel 1.1.cvs20050128-1' turned out to be completely unusable for me. The previously mentioned crash occured again so I thought I'd try 'extra/amarok 1.2.beta4-1' and this time it worked. To sum up, these are the two versions that seem to be working for me so far:
'amarok-devel-1.1.cvs20041011-1'
EDIT: 'extra/amarok 1.2.beta4-1'(no longer stable, 'appamarok' [the tray] crashes often&playlist creation is borked.
@Mith: I have no idea why your amarok crashes, but you may try some of the amarok-devel versions from unstable. Cheers.

    I built my own test a few minutes ago to avoid libgpod and mtp, one of the first problems is segfaulting at every exit so it looses many settings like the current playlist. Playlist importing from v1 is still broken, rtsp streams are not recognised (even though it is still the xine engine), there is no EQ, random crashes here and there... If you still want to try it check this build http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=19633
    haha wow.  i guess ill stick w/ 1.4 untill they get this sorted out.  was hoping for sumthin new but owell

  • Amarok issues after upgrade to KDE 4.6.2

    Yesterday after upgrading to KDE 4.6.2 and rebooting, amarok started having issues.  I was already running amarok 2.4.0-4 before the upgrade and it was working well.  After the upgrade, it would start normally in the tray but crash every time I tried to maximize it.  So I cleared out all amarok config files from ~/.kde4/share/apps and ~/.kde4/share/config.  After restarting and reconfiguring, the crash went away.  However, now the window does not stay maximized after closing it to the tray.  If I maximize, close to tray, and then open it, the window opens with 1130x540 dimensions, and the widths of the three main panels has been reset.  It's not critical since it stopped crashing with a clean config, but it's an annoyance.  Maybe it just needs to be recompiled with the new kdelibs or something.  Anyone else experience the same thing?

    Here's what's printed in the terminal when the crash happens:
    amarok(12603)/libplasma Plasma::FrameSvg::resizeFrame: Invalid size QSizeF(0, 0)
    amarok(12603)/libplasma Plasma::FrameSvg::resizeFrame: Invalid size QSizeF(0, 0)

    QSocketNotifier: Invalid socket 30 and type 'Read', disabling...
    KCrash: Application 'amarok' crashing...
    About one out of 10 times, it also causes kwin to crash and restart.

    and now I have another couple of problems :
    mplayer, vlc says segmentation fault any time Im trying to play a video.

    vlc that_70s_show.6x04
    VLC media player 1.1.0 The Luggage (revision exported)

    I did try reinstall vlc by pacman -Rs vlc but its the same...
    I do remember times when arch was pretty stable, so is it so now or Im the one who cause this ?!
    thanks in advance!

    this is output from amarok's start :
    $ amarok
    <unknown program name>(14670)/: Communication problem with "amarok" , it probably crashed.
    Error message was: "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown" : " "The name org.kde.amarok was not provided by any .service files" "
    KCrash: Application 'amarok' crashing...
    sock_file=/home/tepo/.kde4/socket-server/kdeinit4__0
    about that 60fps ...it have been told me that this (even with 250fps) that ist wrong installed graphic card, but I followed archwiki during instalation and there are just few (I dont know now how many exactly but I guess 2) steps to follow so there in no place for mistake...
    which logs should I post too?
    thanks for helping me...

  • Sound doesn't work

    Hello,
    Yesterday I decided to do a fresh Arch install. Everything worked fine, except my sound.
    Here's what I did:
    - Added myself to group audio when I created my account
    - Installed amarok-base with xine and gstreamer engines.
    - Found out that amarok crashed when trying to play a file
    - lsmod | grep snd
    - alsaconf
    - alsamixer
    snd_intel8x0m 15940 0
    snd_intel8x0 30528 2
    snd_ac97_codec 85116 2 snd_intel8x0m,snd_intel8x0
    snd_pcm_oss 51104 0
    snd_mixer_oss 18432 1 snd_pcm_oss
    snd_pcm 84868 4 snd_intel8x0m,snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss
    snd_timer 22660 1 snd_pcm
    snd 49380 11 snd_intel8x0m,snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_timer
    soundcore 8032 1 snd
    snd_page_alloc 8840 3 snd_intel8x0m,snd_intel8x0,snd_pcm
    So everything is supposed to work correctly. But it doesn't. Amarok crashes with the xine engine and outputs nothing with the gstreamer engine (gstreamer cannot play mp3??? This is not Debian, I hope? ).
    mplayer -ao oss alsa [file] outputs silence and mplayer -ao alsa [file] does nothing. Actually, alsa  outputs this:
    Starting playback...
    A: 0.0 (00.0) ??,?%
    [^C]
    MPlayer interrupted by signal 2 in module: play_audio
    alsa-uninit: pcm closed
    aplay [file]:
    Playing raw data 'music/01 Speed Of Sound.mp3' : Unsigned 8 bit, Rate 8000 Hz, Mono
    Aborted by signal Interrupt...
    Complete silence...
    Anyone got a clue what it could be? Sound has never failed me before .

    Snowman wrote:snd_intel8x0m  is a module for modem sound. It is known to interfere with the other sound module (snd_intel8x0). Try adding it to /etc/hotplug/blacklist
    Afaik I do not run hotplug anymore. Just the hardware detection that is built into rc.conf. I have already added that module to the blacklist in rc.conf, but in vain.
    edit:
    I checked my lsmod, and I saw that snd_intel8x0m was loaded, despite the fact that I blacklisted it. I'll try the hotplug blacklist...
    edit2:
    As I expected, adding it to the hotplug blacklist doesn't help, since I have hotplug prefixed with a ! in rc.conf. Btw, what is the syntax for the blacklist array? This is how it look now:
    # Scan hardware and load required modules at bootup
    MOD_AUTOLOAD="yes"
    # Module Blacklist - modules in this list will never be loaded by hwdetect
    MOD_BLACKLIST=(hw_random snd_intel8x0m)
    # Modules to load at boot-up (in this order)
    # - prefix a module with a ! to disable it
    MODULES=(acpi cpufreq_ondemand)

    Okay, I launched dbus

  • Alsa sound and xine engine suddenly stopped using the right soundcard

    I have a relativly fresh arch install and was astonished how easy the installation of alsa was. I just installed the alsa-lib package and it automatically detected my PCI soundcard instead of using my onboard chip.
    But suddenly (about some hours ago) Amarok refuses to playback on the right soundcard. Instead i get output on my onboard card. I'm using gnome and if i check the Audio settings everything is on "Alsa" and if i click on the "Test" button i get that annoying sine-sound - on the right soundcard. If i try to manually change the sound output in Amarok from "Autodetect" to "Alsa" i get a xine error and Amarok crashes.
    Then i tried to define my default soundcard in my .asoundrc:
    pcm.!default {
    type hw
    card 2
    ctl.!default {
    type hw
    card 2
    No luck. What's happening here?

  • [SOLVED] Amarok fails to start / crashes while starting

    Hello,
    Amarok on my primary Arch x86_64 machine just started to fail staring. It probably is not caused by some upgrade, as downgrading related recently upgraded packages (mysql, phonon) didn't help. Removing of /.kde4/share/apps/amarok* and /.kde4/share/config/amarok* stuff didn't help either. I tried to log in with clear .kde4, which seemed to help, but as I had everything configurend and done some reboots, the problem appeared again. When I run amarok, splashscreen shows up, then the window pops up and disappears. No crash report from drkonqui is displayed though.
    This is what I get, when running it from konsole:

    When looking at the output of amarok on the working computer, I noticed that following was missing:

    Although I just copied everything amarok related in ~/.kde4 from the working machine.
    OK, posted at kde.forums...

  • [solved] amarok 2.3 crash

    after upgrading to amarok 2.3 i launched the program and all seemed well. After some minutes it crashed and I'm still unable to launch it again. When i type "amarok" i get this:

    any clue? I tried to remove the amarok folder in .kde4 and also to reinstall the package but the problem is still there. Strangely, if i run amarok as root it does start...
    Cheers

  • Amarok and KMix crash on start-up [Solved]

    KMix and Amarok both crash on start-up. I have no idea why they do. I checked what happens in vanilla user, and they still crash. So I ruled out settings.
    This started today, which is strange, given the last update wasn't anything significant (at least for me).
    This the log of last update:
    [2013-09-28 01:47] [PACMAN] Running 'pacman -Syu'
    [2013-09-28 01:47] [PACMAN] synchronizing package lists
    [2013-09-28 01:47] [PACMAN] starting full system upgrade
    [2013-09-28 01:47] [PACMAN] upgraded archlinux-keyring (20130818-1 -> 20130926-1)
    [2013-09-28 01:48] [PACMAN] upgraded ca-certificates (20130610-1 -> 20130906-1)
    [2013-09-28 01:48] [PACMAN] upgraded dialog (1.2_20130902-1 -> 1.2_20130923-1)
    [2013-09-28 01:48] [PACMAN] upgraded file (5.14-1 -> 5.15-1)
    [2013-09-28 01:48] [PACMAN] upgraded imagemagick (6.8.6.10-1 -> 6.8.7.0-1)
    [2013-09-28 01:48] [PACMAN] upgraded links (2.7-2 -> 2.8-1)
    Also Amarok and KMix are only media apps that are affected. VLC works, MPlayer works, even Flash (YouTube) works. If I test sound in System Settings sounds works as well.
    The other application which also has problems at start-up is Dropbox, but I doubt it's connected. It says there's a permission error and the error report among other things says:
    OperationalError: database or disk is full
    So does that mean I have /tmp problem? It still has 3,2GB of space left (as always).
    Did update of file or dialog somehow broke this??
    Any help is welcome. At least give me some additional ideas, so I can post this on KDE forum. At least tell me if anyone else has the same problem.
    Oh BTW: I thought it might be the problem with the new kernel. But I re-built it and check if the catalyst module got built, and it still doesn't work. So it's not driver problem either.

    Ironically I already solved it, but I don't know which of the two things I did solved it.
    I first downgraded linux to previous version. To do that I had to go to /var/cache/pacman/pkg, where I noticed how much old packages I had, so I also did pacman -Sc.
    I'm guessing this was what solved it, as dropbox also works. So I think I'll upgrade back and hopefully everything will still work.
    If not well I'm kind of screwed, as pacman -Sc cleared all the older versions of linux. It was the problem with disk space and not with the kernel. So this is solved.
    BTW: is there a version of pacman -Sc that doesn't remove the one version before the current? (That would be really useful)

  • Kded crashes on amarok quit in gnome, cannot start jack after

    I'm running amarok in gnome and it works fine except that I'm getting the KDE crash handler telling me that kded has cashed just after I quit amarok. And amarok seems to keep holding onto hw:0, so I cannot start jack after. Which prosess could I kill to make jack start?
    Thanks

    ZestyTang:
    If you import the modified folder you'll just end up with duplicates as the ratings and other metadata will be lost. It's starting over from scratch.
    alexkess:
    Since it works OK in the other account it might be a preference file other than iPhoto's. Try the following:
    Trouble Shooting Preferences in Leopard
    1 - Create a folder titled "Preferences A" on the Desktop.
    2 - Open the working Preferences folder, HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences, and move the contents to the Preferences A folder on the Desktop.
    3 - Make a duplicate copy of the Preferences A folder on the Desktop as a precautionary backup.
    4 - With the working Preferences folder empty run the application again and determine if the problems is fixed.
    NOTE: you may have to drag the contents of the working folder to the trash and empty if moving the contents to the A folder only copies them instead of moving.
    5 - If the problem is fixed:
    A - open the working Preferences folder (HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences).
    B - Open the Preferences A folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Preferences folder.
    C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here.
    6 - If the problem is NOT fixed, empty the working Preferencess folder and move the contents of the Preferences folder on the desktop back into it.

  • Getting Creative Zen player to connect through amarok [SOLVED]

    Edited 12-27 to include new info
    I'm trying to get myCreative Zen player to connect through amarok but am having some problems. After some looking around I figured out the libmtp in the extra repository doesn't support this player, but the newest versions do. I made a new package for libmtp-0.2.4 and installed it since there's been some tweaks that affect this player since 0.2.2 which is in testing. I also had to recompile amarok since one of libs changed a name with the new libmtp. The instructions from libmtp mentioned udev rules needed to be defined, which was done by copying a file from the source code into /etc/udev/rules.d. That file (minus the parts relating to other players, which is pretty much the same as here):
    # UDEV-style hotplug map for libmtp
    # Put this file in /etc/udev/rules.d
    ACTION!="add", GOTO="libmtp_rules_end"
    ATTR{dev}!="?*", GOTO="libmtp_rules_end"
    SUBSYSTEM=="usb", GOTO="libmtp_usb_rules"
    # The following thing will be deprecated when older kernels are phased out.
    SUBSYSTEM=="usb_device", GOTO="libmtp_usb_device_rules"
    GOTO="libmtp_rules_end"
    LABEL="libmtp_usb_rules"
    # Creative ZEN 8GB
    ATTR{idVendor}=="041e", ATTR{idProduct}=="4157", SYMLINK+="libmtp-%k", MODE="666"
    GOTO="libmtp_rules_end"
    LABEL="libmtp_usb_device_rules"
    # Creative ZEN 8GB
    ATTRS{idVendor}=="041e", ATTRS{idProduct}=="4157", SYMLINK+="libmtp-%k", MODE="666"
    GOTO="libmtp_rules_end"
    LABEL="libmtp_rules_end"
    When I plug the player to my usb port dmesg gives
    usb 5-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 8
    usb 5-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
    As my normal user amarok doesn't seem to recognize anything, and mtp-detect gives:
    libmtp version: 0.2.4
    Attempting to connect device(s)
    usb_claim_interface(): Operation not permitted
    LIBMTP PANIC: Unable to initialize device 1
    LIBMTP PANIC: configure_usb_devices() error code: 7 on line 1561
    Detect: There has been an error connecting. Exiting
    As root mtp-detect gives me a bunch of output that seems like it's doing what it should, also while it's spitting this out the screen on the player changes to say it's docked, which wasn't happening as the normal user. This makes me think it's some permissions issue. I did find things from google telling me that sometimes the user needs to be added to a certain group to use libmtp, though it seemed somewhat distro dependent. My main user is in the following groups: dbus hal network audio optical storage scanner camera users thinkpad
    However I don't think my problems are solely permission related, since even as root amarok won't recognize the player. I can use gnomad2 as root, which mostly works, though it crashes when I try and close gnomad after adding music and the player thinks it's still docked even after unplugging it. I had to use a pin to reset it just to turn it off. When I ran it from a console I got the following output at the end after the crash
    PTP: Closing session
    ERROR: Could not close session!
    inep: usb_get_endpoint_status(): Protocol error
    outep: usb_get_endpoint_status(): No such device
    usb_clear_halt() on IN endpoint: No such device
    usb_clear_halt() on OUT endpoint: No such device
    usb_clear_halt() on INTERRUPT endpoint: No such device
    The application 'gnomad2' lost its connection to the display :0.0;
    most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed
    the application.
    Any suggestions for where to go from here?

    I've been meaning to post an update about my issues. I've figured out that when I connect the player it creates device nodes with the root group.  Some have permissions set to 666, which seems to fit with the udev rules I posted. But some of them are only rw for owner and group, others only have read permissions. As a test I tried changing the permissions by hand to 666, and I can use gnomad as my regular user, though it's buggy and seems to crash randomly (not just when I transfer files like I originally thought). I haven't been able to test what amarok does, since for some reason it stopped working this weekend and I haven't had a chance to figure out what happened. It seems there some problem with the udev rules, but I don't know much about how that works to figure out what's going wrong.
