AMD Fusion Processor

Is there any way to get an AMD Fusion Processor in the macbook air? Or is Mac looking to put AMD in the macbook air soon? I find Intel's Graphics Very poor, especially in comparison and i don't mind the CPU trade-off

You aren't the only one.
In his biography, Steve Jobs said that Intel's graphics "suck", and Intel doesn't innovate well and "doesn't listen".  He also indicated that Intel's processors are power suckers.
Read Steve's bio.  I think it is on page 493 or 497 or something like that.  Well, if Steve Jobs (and we all know he wasn't shy about making big industry-changing decisions) decided to give Intel the boot for sucking at graphics in the Macbook Air, it certainly would explain why Intel is paying all the PC makers to make underpriced clones of the Macbook Air to cut into Air sales?
Did anyone see that demonstration at CES where Intel faked video game play by "playing" a recorded video of a video game on VLC player?  Yes, I guess that's what Steve meant by "suck" graphics.

  • AMD fusion in mac

I am thinking about buying a laptop that i can do a little bit of everything with. I want a true quad core processor. My question is will AMD fusion ever be put in a mac? it is a new technology, and apple is known for being at edge of new technology. just wondering

Typically, Apple does not release their plans in advance, so your question is almost impossible to answer.  Apple's quad core machines are indeed true quad core machines.  If you are looking for performance, you can't go wrong with Apple's Intel quad core machines.  In my humble opinion, the fusion platform is better known for cost effectiveness, cooling (one less GPU to cool), and power consumption.

  • CS5 Compatibility with AMD E350 Processor

I just opened up my new computer and I realized it didnt have a CD Drive.  Later looking into the specs I failed to check if the CS5 Design Premium Suite will run on my AMD Fusion E350 Processor ( 1.60GHz 1MB ) APU.  Its an 11.6 inch netbook with a screen resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels.  3GB of RAM and plenty of Hard Drive Space.  But I am mainly asking if the AMD E350 Processor is enough to run the CS5 Suite (Mainly Photoshop) well.
PS.  If you know how to install photoshop cs5 without a built-in CD Drive any advice would be helpful.

Yes, it will run.  When I travel, I take a HP DM1Z-3000 along that is loaded with PSCS 5, Illustrator CS5, and LR 3.5.  That HP line uses the AMD E350 Fusion processor.  Is it as fast as my HP DM4 laptop with an I5 processor - no, but it will get the job done.  The bottleneck for you will be the RAM, not the processor.  It really is quite fast and very energy efficient.  My recommendation would be to up the RAM and you will have something that will work quite well.  I upgraded the RAM of both machines to 8 GB (quite cheap at this point), and even the little DM1Z can run circles around my 2 year old Core2Duo laptop that now sits on a shelf. For comparison, the old Core2Duo laptop also has 8 GB of RAM and it is simply not as responsive as the DM1Z....

  • AMD fusion + xbmc12 + lvl5.1 howto?

    Hi there folks!
Well, nice to meet you all. I am one of those who is trying to move from ubuntu-xbmc to something more handmade and didactic.
I have a asus e35l-1 deluxe based on e350 fusion amd chip. I have xbmc12-ubuntu enabled xbva working flawlessly. Low cpu consumption and playing h264-5.1 without any artifacts.
I have a fresh arch_64 install. I also install xbmc frodo and catalyst-dkms catalyst-utils lib32-catalyst-utils. I managed to make all work, but I still have issues:
    - The cpu load is very high, even configuring dirty regions. But I guess it is because is not a xbva-xbmc enabled version. I'll try to install from AUR if I am able to understand and fix the next issue:
    - Lvl5.1 not working. Since the latest fglrx drivers from community are based on 13.1, the command:
    aticonfig --set-pcs-u32=MCIL,HWUVD_H264Level51Support,1
    might work but it didn't.
Any one have a xbmc12 working in a amd-fusion machine? Should I try VI0l0 fglrx? or the AUR packages? I would love to find a workaround being as most standard as possible.
    Thanks in advance
    Cheers!

    Bump,
I found that community catalyst and xvba-video-open should work flawlessly. Definitely vainfo and fglrx show the proper the info.
I've compiled from AUR xbmc packages with xvba enabled:
xbmc-xvba: xvba not working propperly. While a video is playing (sd-xvid to h264-5.1) cpu load is about 80% and drops almost a frame per second. I've also check the ati gpu clocks and it is kinda weird as sometimes is idle and very few times at 100%.
xbmc-git-xvba: there is one dependency left from AUR (xvba-sdk) but even resolving it I couldn't make it work. There might be a problem with libdvdcss that I cant manage to elude. In the post of the AUR repository they said that there is a workaround using before the bootstrap, whatever it means:
    # fix configure: error: Submodule lib/libdvd/libdvdcss failed to configure
    (cd lib/libdvd/libdvdcss; sed -e 's/AM_CONFIG_HEADER/AC_CONFIG_HEADERS/g' -i configure.ac)
    source: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/xbmc-git-xvba/
    Can anyone helpme?
    Thanks in advance

  • Headless (Media) Server Project [AMD Fusion][UEFI]

    Hi,
since my old server mainboard died, I want to setup a new rack with an Asus E35M1I.
Before I spent endless hours of searching obvious things I decided to post my most important questions here.
also to have them in one place -> depending on how it goes I might do a wiki page
64bit kernel should be no problem, right? (since the MB supports up to 8GB ram) - confirmed works fine
The arch linux wiki states that
kernel >=3.3 these is a new option CONFIG_EFI_STUB which allows launching the kernel from the UEFI Shell itself, thus removing the need for a separate boot-loader.
Should I wait for the 3.3 kernel to be in the repos ?
    using standard boot method
The CONFIG_EFI_STUB config option is already in the config file on the package/linux trunk, what does this mean for me?
In Order to enhance performance I found these gcc flags
    CFLAGS="-O1 -pipe -march=amdfam10 -mcx16 -mpopcnt -mmmx -msse -msse2 -mssse3 -msse4a"
do those strike anyone as particulary bad or good ?
Is there a unofficial kernel package which you would recommend for this setup ? (similar to e.g. linux-ck[-corex] )
given I don't want to have it running 24/7 what tools or settings do you recommend to have it hibernate/standby PLUS wakeup if samba access or similar - for now I have manual acpi PRBT -> poweroff ans WOL
other optinions, hints to what to do right (or wrong) with this setup
    Facts:
me: Archlinux Intermediate User, 2-3 PCs currently running Arch, no shell coward, custom kernel is an option
server loads: minidnla, samba, transmission, sshd, (future: some kind of mediacenter)
    Mainboard Asus E35M1I + 4GB Ram
    Findings during Install.
pacman SigLevel != NEVER, I had to edit /tmp/pacman.conf during AIF to get packages at all.
samba apperanly needs sec=ntlmv2 in client mount options, since it gives a File not Found error otherwise - this didn't happen before and there is rarely any doc on this.
the amd fusion E350 uses powernow-k8 as freqency scaling driver, I wasn't entirly sure about this.

  • AMD Phenom Processor not supported by 2.0 beta

After trying out the slow and very bug ridden 2.0 beta on my old windows XP 32 bit version computer, we decided to try the 64 bit version on my new 64/128 bit computer under XP pro SP2. After a few seconds it decides the "processor is not supported".
This is a AMD Phenom processor with an AMD video card running parallel with the onboard video processor. It is reccommended by AMD for compatability on their website. I have 8 Gigs of ram installed. It should just fly, but won't even finish loading.
Has anyone else gotten this message? Will Adobe support the new AMD graphics processors and CPUs? I really do like some of the things lightroom can do but we need it to run fast and not crash, choke, ect.

Your processor is 64 bit but your OS, if it's XP Pro SP2, is not. You need the 32 bit version.

am looking at buying an Aspire Netbook with 4 gig ram, dual core amd c70 processor and windows 8, will it run my cs5 suite

    Mark,
Adobe generally requires a minimum CPU clock speed of 2.0 GHz or higher in order to run CS5 or higher. Unfortunately, the AMD C70 CPU in that netbook operates at only 1.0 GHz, which is far below Adobe's minimum requirement. In addition, even if it did run Premiere Pro CS5, performance will be excruciatingly slow, not only due to the extremely weak CPU, but also due to the complete lack of a discrete GPU with CUDA capability. As such, that system, if it even runs Premiere Pro CS5 at all, would be at least 80 to 100 times slower (in terms of the Relative Performance Index (RPI) in Bill Gehrke's and Hard Millaard's PPBM5 tests) than even a mediocre quad-core desktop PC, let alone a fast overclocked i7 monster PC.

  • AMD FX processor incompatible with Steam

A few months ago I purchased a brand new HP desktop with a top of the line AMD FX processor. However, it seems that there are some issues with them and the gaming platform Steam. Several games won't run, such as Total War: Shogun 2, on an AMD FX processor. This is a known issue by AMD, and all major motherboard companies have fixed their BIOS to address the issue. (See:  http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/STEAMGamesonAMDFXplatforms.aspx ) However, since HP customizes their motherboards, none of these fixes will work. When will HP be addressing this issue? I've sent multiple tickets and emails on this so far.
    Thanks

Ok. It looks like the BIOS for your PC has been updated (I believe this is the BIOS for your PC, but double-check model in the page heading and the OS version just to be sure):

  • OCI 9.0.1 and AMD Athlon Processor

    Hello,
I have a client who is using an Oracle 8.1.7 server and is connecting from workstations running OCI 9.0.1 (the 9i R1 client). This is working fine except for on one workstation. The only known difference with this machine is that it is using an AMD Athlon processor (all the others are Intel processors).
The behavior appears to be that for floating point numbers, Oracle/OCI is telling our product that the numbers are integer numbers (no decimals). Thus, my application is not displaying the decimal places (since it is being told there are none).
    All other workstations work fine.
Any ideas? I am wondering if there is a known issue with the AMD Athlon processor and the oracle 9.0.1 client...? I am attempting to convince the user to try the 9.0.2 client, but I don't want to waste his time.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
    Rob

    Thanks Adrian.
I'll try to get him to run a straight select, but I don't even know if they installed SQL-Plus on the machine. He hasn't exactly been cooperative (I've asked him to check other areas of my application and he doesn't) so I don't know what he will do.
As for the sqlnet.ora file, I am not sure what to look for in there...? or do you suggest blowing it away and starting over?
    Thanks again,
    Rob

  • [solved] No sound with AMD Fusion C-60

Is the C-60 just too new to be supported? Do I need to be running a GUI of some sort to make the audio work?

  • MSI AMD Boards/K9N6PGM2-V AMD co-processor driver

Acknowledging that this is an older board, K9N6PGM2-V (MS-7309-090), I hope there is some hope of help available.
I built this PC a number of years ago with an AMD Athlon II X2 240 CPU (2.8) and it has been as solid as a rock, running Win XP-Pro, since I first hit the switch. I was so impressed with how stable the M.S.I. A.M.D. system was, I built another, more powerful, system based on the same platform. The machine also has an MSI N430GT MD2GD3 video card. I recently upgraded the OS to Win 7 32 bit HP. I have downloaded and run the following files from the MSI site:
    M7309 v1.2.zip
    mcp_732_mb.zip
    nvidia_30697_8732_vga.zip
The B.I.O.S. are the original, as shipped. I would, if necessary, flash the B.I.O.S. with the latest version.
    There are 2 issues:
    1. Device Manager shows an alert with the co-processor (no driver installed). An alert I have never seen before. I assume that all I need is the correct .inf file, but I can't seem to find it.
    2. There are 4 Gb of R.A.M. installed (2x2 Gb D.D.R.2 PC2-6400 Un-Buffered NON-E.C.C. Crucial), which Win 7 recognizes, but the system only shows 3.25 Gb usable. It was my intention to use 8 Gb. of R.A.M. (4 Gbx2), since the both the Mainboard and the OS will support it. I'm just not sure about the memory controller. I checked the A.M.D site, but couldn't find the specifications on this older C.P.U. There would be no point to installing 8 Gb if I can't use more than 3.25 Gb. I don't know if this is a problem with the co-processor not having a driver, or if some, but not all of the chip-set drivers installed properly.
I hope I have provided enough information, but, if not, please advise.
Any help anyone out there can provide would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.
    T.

Thank you for your reply. It's encouraging to know that there are people here who care about others who are having problems.
The MB was purchased new, not 'refurbished' or used.
I checked the MB, as per the photo shown. It is without question K9N6PGM2-V. The label on the B.I.O.S. chip is pale green, as in the photo. With a magnifying glass, I can clearly see 'A7309' on the top row and either 'NMS940' or 'NMS94()' (can't be sure which, it's really small).
The file 'M7309v1.2.zip' is the MB manual.
As I suggested to 'badboy2k' in a previous post, I decided to re-run the  'mcp_732_mb.zip' file (System & Chipset Drivers). This time I saw dialog boxes I didn't see the first time. Surprise, surprise, there is no longer a 'co-processor' error in Device Manager. I guess something didn't run the first time. It also offered to install the nvidia ForceWare Ethernet configurator, which I didn't get the first time. So it looks like my lesson is, if it doesn't do it right the first time, run the setup again.
The PC is now running fine, with no warnings in Device Manager.
Thanks again to all who helped.

  • Very slow performance AMD athlon processor

    Hi,
I'm working on Windows 2000 environment with an AMD athlon +3000 processor, and 1.5GB RAM.
I just installed VMware 5.0 and Linux AS 3. As soon as I rebooted the virtual machine and after having installed Linux, the guest OS (Linux) performance is very very poor.
Do you have any suggestion about how to solve this issue?
    Thanks
    Gilson Sirvas

Where does the Oracle software come into the picture? If this is a generic vmware issue please post on VMware's community forums..
    http://www.vmware.com/community/
that will be much more effective.
In general defragmenting the HD is very helpful, also allocating more memory to the Guest OS will make things run faster. look in the vmware.log make sure IO is not taking too long, look for things like:
    Jun 12 04:24:11: vmx| SCSI0:0: Command WRITE(10) took 7.347 seconds (ok)
that means that a single IO took 7 seconds, that's very very slow.. move the VM to a faster (internal) HD.. Finally check with vmware, there might be an issue with the AMD processor, not sure...
If you figure it out and the solution is interesting, please take the time and post here so that others can benefit.
    good luck,
    Saar.
