Headless (Media) Server Project [AMD Fusion][UEFI]

Hi,
since my old server mainboard died, I want to setup a new rack with an Asus E35M1I.
Before I spent endless hours of searching obvious things I decided to post my most important questions here.
also to have them in one place -> depending on how it goes I might do a wiki page
64bit kernel should be no problem, right? (since the MB supports up to 8GB ram) - confirmed works fine
The arch linux wiki states that
kernel >=3.3 these is a new option CONFIG_EFI_STUB which allows launching the kernel from the UEFI Shell itself, thus removing the need for a separate boot-loader.
Should I wait for the 3.3 kernel to be in the repos ?
using standard boot method
The CONFIG_EFI_STUB config option is already in the config file on the package/linux trunk, what does this mean for me?
In Order to enhance performance I found these gcc flags

do those strike anyone as particulary bad or good ?
Is there a unofficial kernel package which you would recommend for this setup ? (similar to e.g. linux-ck[-corex] )
given I don't want to have it running 24/7 what tools or settings do you recommend to have it hibernate/standby PLUS wakeup if samba access or similar - for now I have manual acpi PRBT -> poweroff ans WOL
other optinions, hints to what to do right (or wrong) with this setup
Facts:
me: Archlinux Intermediate User, 2-3 PCs currently running Arch, no shell coward, custom kernel is an option
server loads: minidnla, samba, transmission, sshd, (future: some kind of mediacenter)
Mainboard Asus E35M1I + 4GB Ram
Findings during Install.
pacman SigLevel != NEVER, I had to edit /tmp/pacman.conf during AIF to get packages at all.
samba apperanly needs sec=ntlmv2 in client mount options, since it gives a File not Found error otherwise - this didn't happen before and there is rarely any doc on this.
the amd fusion E350 uses powernow-k8 as freqency scaling driver, I wasn't entirly sure about this.

up. I am able to run the vodtest application locally pointing the
video file to rtmp://localhost/vod/sample.flv or using the server
name instead of localhost as in rtmp://mclmedia/vod/sample.flv
I can also load the html and swf file to my xp machine that
has access to the server via our internal network. (DNS isn't
configured yet) But the connectionFailed message appears when I try

I am producing web-tv/broadcasting live/live streaming. Still I want to have the full HD quality and adobe seems to offer that. What do i get if I purchase the Adobe Media Server 5 (the latest version of media server from adobe according to the info i have got).

[solved] No sound with AMD Fusion C-60

I have a freshly-installed headless server with a Fusion C-60 APU (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6813131843). It's mostly a NAS box, but I'm also trying to set it up to run MPD. However, I apparently have no sound at all:

Thanks, apparently it was disabled in the BIOS. Never thought to check there because I've never had a motherboard ship with sound disabled by default.

How do I use Adobe Media Server 5 on Amazon Web Services?

Adobe Media Server 5 on Amazon Web Services was suggested to my project manager as a way to deal with some of the video we have to host at work, but after signing up and poking around, I'm wondering: how do you actually use it? Is it something that requires the Media Server software, or is there a web interface through AWS? I follow the links, and they tell me it's already active for my account - but I still see no way to use it.

How to get list of logged-in users from Flash Media Server in a Flash programm? (Or login/logout notifications)

I'm Very sorry for asking this. I guess it's a very basic problem, but I'm very new to Flash and Flash media Server and I need a very fast answer...
Currently I'm working on a Director project using a flash program which connects to Flash Media Server (I guess version 3, it's quite old). Unfortunately they forgot to make a flash method to send the actual userlist (or a notification when someone logged in or out) to Director. AND, unfortunately, they lost the source code of that flash programm, so I cannot look into it or alter it *sigh*.
Now I want to do a new flash programm which covers the old one, letting all known methods "pass trough" and building an additional method to gain the user list (or login/out notification).
How do I get the login information from Flash Media Server? (Would be good if you could provide an idea already for flash code... as I said I'm a tard at flash till now)

Dimo Hristov: thanks for your offer! I already tried decompiling the flash program with the shareware version of Trillix Decompiler. It only decompiled the UI (in a terrible way) but no source code at all. It was the shareware version where I can decompile 2 or 3 programms to test the software. Are you sure the non-free version of Trilix Flash Decompiler will do..?

Quicktime Media Server

I was wondering why no one talks about using QuickTime media server. All I see is folks talking about are XBMC and Plex.
Is there an issue with the QuickTime Media server? My purpose for buying the Mac Mini is to use the computer both as a server ans a HTPC.

The QuickTime Streaming Server (QTSS) feature was deprecated and removed from OS X Server a while back, so you'll have to get Darwin Streaming Server (DSS) working (there were reportedly issues with that at 10.7 and the project doesn't seem to be active), or install XBMC or Plex, or use HTTP live s[t]reaming, or maybe something like El Gato EyeTV software will suffice for your requirements.

Well, I'm not sure what exactly is going on yet, but here's what I've done:
I followed these steps for the "Unable to connect to background process" issue that Compressor sometimes has, even though that wasn't the issue. It sort of made sense to do, though, because when I reinstalled FCP and DVDSP, I did DVDSP4 first, then FCP HD 4.5, which predates DVDSP 4 by a generation (I think). So it was possible that Compressor got screwed up in the install...still hard to tell, though.
So then I just tried a bunch of videos in Compressor. After several various attempts, it appears that *perhaps, maybe* it was just a bad custom preset. The built-in 150 min 2-Pass is currently working away on the video, and is 10% into it, which is 10% more than the custom preset ever got.
So, I'm gong to let that encode, and then try to make the preset again, from scratch, and see I can figure anything out. The only thing different between the 150 min 2-Pass preset and my version of it was the addition of a Gamma Correction filter. So, who knows...
If anyone knows anything else, please make a post.

Dynamic Link Media Server error - lost video reference file and can't replace

I've had this problem twice in the last 4 days and both times it's coincided with an internet drop-out in the office. I've imported an uncompressed QT .mov into Audition CC, splitting the video and audio tracks, and added both to a multitrack session. I'm using the video reference track to sync SFX to an animation. The problem is that the video track stops playing in the video window, and Audition crashes. We've had problems with our internet connection and this problem occured when the internet dropped out. I wait for the internet to come back online and restart Audition, and get the following message:
"This file can only be imported using the Dynamic Link Media Server process, but it is still starting and cannot yet be used. Please wait while the process initializes and we import the selected files."
The app takes 30 seconds to load and my video reference track has disappeared and is labelled "Offline". I can't replace it in the multitrack timeline, even if I try to reimport the original .mov file into the project it only displays the file as audio with no video. I'm not using Premier and don't need to sync between apps, I just need Audition to recognise a video track on my local hard drive.
FYI: I'm running OS X 10.9.1 with Audition CC and have turned on "Enable DMLS Format support" in preferences.
Any help would be much appreciated as I'm thinking of reverting to Ableton!

On the 'about' link it says at the top "The OS X Mavericks v10.9.1 Update is recommended for all OS X Mavericks users." Sounds pretty unequivocal to me. You'd need absolute confirmation from Durin, but I can't on the face of it see why the latest version of DMLS wouldn't be compatible with the previous version - IOW, it should be fine. So it's not blind prejudice, or even blatent bias this time either - FWIW I'm similarly underwhelmed with Windows 8.

Share media and projects?

Hi, I have a question regarding FCP 6, Xsan/Xserver & project sharing. Is it possible? I've read some things that say people used to be able to with FCP 5 but not 6. Permissions issue and all that. I come from several years of working on avid and sharing media and projects not just the media on a avid unity. The company I edit for now has 4 FCP edit bays ver 6.0.1. Out xsan tech people have made it so that all permissions are for read and write. Kept having authentication issues. We're starting a new project soon and have already been bitten by two editors working on the same project but at different times and therefore neither had the most current version. So, I'm wondering is it possible or even advisable on a FCP system to share the projects from the server. Thanks for any help and insight.

FCP does not act like an Avid...you cannot share the actual projects. That is, only one person can open a project at a time. This is due to the file structure. FCP projects are ONE file. Avid's projects consisted of several files...one foe each bin. So it wasn't an issue. There are work arounds and workflows, and I can give you a quick tip. But as for a complete workflow, I sell a DVD that goes a bit in depth on this.
Have a main project that is your footage, and another one that is your cut. The other editors have their own CUTS projects. Store the main project on the SAN, and copy it to your computer to work with. Have your CUTS project on your computer as well, and at night before you leave, back it up to the main SAN. This way, if someone needed access to your cut, they could copy it from the SAN and open it.

Do I need Flash Media Server?

Hi all,
Sorry for this question, but I'm a bit confused. Is there a
way to broadcast live flash video using just flash, or do I NEED
Flash Media server. I don't really have the budget for it, and
don't really know another option if Flash doesn't work.

You need a streaming server to do it. FMS is (IMO) the best
choice, but there are two others I know of
Red5 (
http://osflash.org/red5) . Red5
is an open source, free (as in beer), java based flash media
server. It's still in beta, but I hear it's shaping up to be a
pretty solid server.
Wowza Media Server (
http://www.wowzamedia.com)
also has a java based flash server in beta, and the beta program is
open to the public. The projected prices (on their site) put the
price at about half that of FMS.
Just curious, how many people do you need to serve at once?
If it's 10 or less, you can use the free FMS developer
license.

DynamicLink Media Server won't let me import video for video frames to layers anymore.

I am trying to load a video into photoshop cc (trial) via File > Import > Video Frames to Layers. It has worked in the past, but for some reason has seemed to have stopped working. I have uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times, and I've shut down my computer and rebooted it multiple times. I have also looked into the other questions listing "dynamiclink media server" as a problem and have tried to figure out what is wrong, or how to fix it. I have not been able to understand what I should do, so I was hoping someone would know how to help me.
I have a macbook pro, which is about 2 years old. That's all they've told me to list, so thank you if you're able to help!!!

Including the Dynamic Link Media Server Update 1.0.1 are all individual apps up to date as of today, March 9 2015.

but non of the solutions under the post #4, #17 either did not work or applied to me, because they were suggested for a Windows user.
Other notes:
Bridge is not working at all. It launches, but crashes as soon as you see the workspace.
Hence, Mini Bridge in Photoshop is also crashing.
I do have all codecs for the videos, that I was trying to open, though.
It cannot be an issue, that I have not enough RAM.
After several other problems with After Effects, Premiere Pro and Media Encoder, which remain partly unsolved, this post starts form a fresh installation of the whole Adobe Suite. Even used the Cloud Cleaner Tool beforehand and made sure, all presets are from this CS6 version only.

Yesterday's Updates to Dynamic Link Media Server

I woke to find four updates to CS6 (Au, Ae, Ps, and Pr) yesterday, which the Updater called "Dynamic Link Media Server CS6 1.0.1 Update."
I updated, and I updated my CUDA about the same time.
Pr started working slower. So, I reverted back, using my clone.
Not sure if this was a coincicence, or which update to blame.
I'm back to the performance from both that I was used to.
The CUDA update was for bugs I wasn't experiencing and for compatibility to 10.8, which I'm not running.
Was I too hasty? Do these Dynamic Link updates do anything? Improve anything?

I don't doubt your engineer for a second. I'm convinced now that the nVidia or most likely the CUDA driver is behind all my Serious Errors. I was getting them right after opening a project and trying to do anything at all today. I turned CUDA off, and was able to finish the project. When that was out the door, I reinstalled the CUDA and nVidia drivers, rebooted, opened my project, enabled CUDA, and Pr has been working without the errors.
