AMM changes in 11.2.0.3?
We are doing some testing on a server with 32GB of RAM running Oracle Enterprise Linux v5.4 (2.6.18-194.el5). Our baseline test, using 11.2.0.1, had /dev/shm sized at 24GB and memory_target set at 24GB. This test had no problems and we saw no swapping at all (si/so in vmstat... monitoring our swap partition with iostat). We then wiped that installation and installed 11.2.0.3, set our parameters just like we did on 11.2.0.1, and imported our data. Now after we are running a reporting workload for about 10 minutes, the system starts swapping to the point that it thrashes the disk. I've been hunting through release notes and readmes and I can't seem to find any documented changes to AMM w/ 11.2.0.3.
We see only about 12GB of data in /dev/shm, but we see 20+GB of data on the individual running oracle processes on Linux (using pmap).
Why are the same AMM settings causing swapping on 11.2.0.3 when they worked fine on 11.2.0.1? Are there new parameters that we need to be modifying? We even toned down memory_target and memory_max_target to 18GB but we still end up swapping.
I made the following changes:
alter system set sga_max_size=12288M scope=spfile;
alter system set sga_target=10240M scope=spfile;
alter system set pga_aggregate_target=10240M scope=spfile;
alter system reset memory_target scope=spfile;
alter system reset memory_max_target scope=spfile;
And restarted the instance. We do still run into the same problem. After about 10-20 minutes of reporting activity we start massively paging. I was watching nmon, iostat, and EM and have the following observations:
94MB free RAM (w/out file system buffers... in other words, consumed active memory). The breakdown according to nmon is:
Active: 24220MB
Inactive: 462MB
Mapped: 9285MB
PageTables: 6644MB
SGA allocation from EM:
Shared Pool: 1568MB
Buffer Cache: 8032MB
Large Pool: 512MB
Java Pool: 32MB
Other: 96MB
Current PGA allocated: 6414MB
Maximum PGA Allocated: 17340MB
So PGA seems to have grown to 1.7 times the amount I gave it as a target. This is likely the issue.

In my system original DTP is full and when i create error DTP, i got error DTP extraction mode is full.
Yes you are right, it is disabled.can you check the update mode of your original DTP once.
once the error DTP is created, we can not change the update of it.

I need help changing a drop down menu on a template
Hi there
ive been using dreamwearver on and of for a few years now and just about get by, ive just bought a web site template and although ive managed to ajust most things,
the template had a drop down menu using CSS currently on the "about us" option a sub menu drops down, ive worked out how to add to this menu and change the words
but what i cant do is have this same drop down menu on another part or the menu system for example i would like another drop down menu on the "our menu" part
any help would be much appreciated

I know that using AMM, Oracle manages sga and pga together.
But why shink and grow (sga pools) operation impact only shared and buffer and not also the pga?
An example, I've 5Gb of AMM, looking AWR, Oracle set shared pool to about 1,9Gb, buffer to 1,1Gb (sga target around 3,3Gb) and the results to PGA.
Looking Memory Dynamic Components in AWR, i see that shrink/grow operation uses only shared and buffer pool and not the PGA that is not used.

Thanks.What I understood from your question is that you dont see reallocation of PGA as you see in SGA resizable components.

Unless there is pressure on oracle to release the memory from PGA to allocate to SGA or vice versa you will not see the change in memory allocation for PGA -
Result_cache_max_sizeis 0 after enabling AMM
I am using. Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0 - 64bit Production. After enabling AMM, the result_cache_max_size has become 0.

Following change was done to enable AMM.

I have a very powerful server 24 Processors with 6 cores each and 74 GB RAM for my production database. The server will host only one production database. I wanted to use AMM for this database and allocate maximum memory to Oracle by setting memory_target. By default /dev/shm is set 37 GB but I wanted to increase it least 55 GB. I know I can get this changed by my system admin but I wanted to know how much memory should leave for OS?
Please help me on sizing this.

Automatic Memory Management
Starting with Oracle Database 11g, the Automatic Memory Management feature requires more shared memory (/dev/shm) and file descriptors. The shared memory should be sized to be at least the greater of MEMORY_MAX_TARGET and MEMORY_TARGET for each Oracle instance on the computer. To determine the amount of shared memory available, enter the following command: # df -k /dev/shm/
Note: MEMORY_MAX_TARGET and MEMORY_TARGET cannot be used when LOCK_SGA is enabled or with huge pages on Linux -

We had just migrated from Oracle 10g to 11g without changing the Oracle 11g default settings.
OLD 10g Settings:
PGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET: 32MB
WORKAREA_SIZE_POLICY: AUTO
SORT_AREA_SIZE: 65536
HASH_AREA_SIZE: 131072
New Oracle 11g setting.

I understand that because memory_target and memory_max_target are set, so the AMM in 11g is enabled. Therefore PAT is 0 and WASP is set to AUTO.
Our Problem is that every Thursday/ Friday morning, the database is working on memory_intensive operations: create index, analyze, select distinct, group by, order by, union, intersect, minus and sort-merge joins. We had problem of ORA-01652. Unable to extend temp tablespace by 128 in tablespace TEMP.
In old DB with 10g, this wasn't a problem.
My question is how this new setting affected the DB performance? How to adjust the settings?

I don't think the TEMP tablespace is not big enough. Because we just upgrated to 11g. I guess this issue is because of the difference of memory setttings.

It could very well be that you've done something like convert a PGA thrashing query to a non-thrashing query, or perhaps even a direct read, leaving only other random queries to hit the PGA. Is anything else slower? Rather than result b being a problem, it could be you just demonstrated the back-asswardness of hit ratios - things may be "better" with a "worse" ratio.

What is the consensus regarding AMM
Hi I am running a test database on AIX and have just upgraded from 10.2 to 11.2
When i created my database using DBCA i set the SGA to 512 mb. When i upgraded to 11g it said the minimum was 624mb which i increased it to.
I have just had a message in the alert log : ORA-12751: cpu time or run time policy violation but cant see any issues.
Anyway after looking at various different sites I decided to switch from using ASMM to AMM. What is the general concensus regarding AMM? How do most be manage the SGA- ASMM, AMM or manually?Am i right in thinking i no longer have to worry about changing any parameters in the SGA now?

Exadata V2 (Linux) - AMM enabled - memory target/max = 40Gb, SGA max = 40Gb, PGA not set, shared pool not set, buffer cache not set - runs perfectly
11.2.0.3 (running on AIX) - AMM enabled - memory target/max = 15Gb - for this one, we had to explicitly set minimum values for PGA, SGA, buffer cache, shared pool (and subpools)
If I let Oracle have complete control on the AIX-hosted database, the performance was quite wild. Not sure whether that's because of the O/S or just because of the type of workload. I would suggest setting minimum values for the key components and then allowing Oracle to decide what gets any overhead at any particular time. -
Constant change in SGA components up-down

i am surprised to know that our smart oracle is doing a lot of shrink and grow on SGA components specially shared pool and db buffer cache
is it ok or some thing wrong?
i checked another development DB and found that it should be infrequent..
do i need to turn of the ASMM?

thank youI saw this a lot on an highly OLTP system once at 10gR2. My SGA was thrashing wildly between buffer cache and shared pool due to a bug in AMM and it was causing performance impact (cursor S pin on X) for no apparent reason. This was particularly prevalent when I moved from a two to a three node cluster.
If you check out v$sga_resize_ops and see if you see a lot of thrashing (sometimes once every three seconds on one instance for 3 hours, then it'd switch to another instance), then my solution was to hardcode the various settings and disable AMM. However, in your case, you're resizing fairly irregularly - probably due to either an undersized component or workload changes. AMM is meant to do what you're describing - is it causing you any issue or is it something that you've noticed and are curious about? -

If you use function BUPA_NUMBERS_GET then your BP number will already be buffered and you can avoid a DB read. It may also be that the BP is not in the DB yet anyway.
You can only pass one GUID in at a time - loop through IT_CHANGED_INSTANCES into a variable of type BU_PARTNER_GUID and pass that into the function as input parameter IV_PARTNER_GUID.

VenkatAs per SAP Standard, when the main Item quantity is changed, the Free Goods are redetermined. In this case any manual changes to Free Goods Quantities are lost.
But your requirement is for restricting the Chages of the Quantity of Free Goods Correct?
I believe there is no SAP standard solution for this. You will have to apply a User Exit, which will check the Item category of each LIne item & if it is free goods (TANN) then changes are not permitted.
