11g AMM Affection to DB Performance

Hi All,
We had just migrated from Oracle 10g to 11g without changing the Oracle 11g default settings.
OLD 10g Settings:
PGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET: 32MB
WORKAREA_SIZE_POLICY: AUTO
SORT_AREA_SIZE: 65536
HASH_AREA_SIZE: 131072
New Oracle 11g setting.
sql> show parameter memory
NAME | TYPE |VALUE
hi_shared_memory_address | integer | 0
memory_max_target | big integer |3280M
memory_target | big integer |3280M
shared_memory_address | integer |0
PGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET: 0
WORKAREA_SIZE_POLICY: AUTO
SORT_AREA_SIZE: 65536
HASH_AREA_SIZE: 131072
I understand that because memory_target and memory_max_target are set, so the AMM in 11g is enabled. Therefore PAT is 0 and WASP is set to AUTO.
Our Problem is that every Thursday/ Friday morning, the database is working on memory_intensive operations: create index, analyze, select distinct, group by, order by, union, intersect, minus and sort-merge joins. We had problem of ORA-01652. Unable to extend temp tablespace by 128 in tablespace TEMP.
In old DB with 10g, this wasn't a problem.
My question is how this new setting affected the DB performance? How to adjust the settings?
Thank you!

Thanks!
So again why do you think this problem is related to PGA & other memory configuration?
I suggest you increase the size of TEMP tablespace.SELECT * FROM dba_temp_files WHERE TABLESPACE_NAME='TEMP'
1 /DATAFILES/signet/temp01.dbf 1 TEMP 17179869184 2097152 AVAILABLE 1 YES 17179869184 2097152 131072 17178820608 2097024
2 /DATAFILES/signet/temp02.dbf 2 TEMP 17179869184 2097152 AVAILABLE 2 YES 17179869184 2097152 131072 17178820608 2097024
17179869184 bytes each for temp files.
SELECT property_value
FROM database_properties
WHERE property_name = 'DEFAULT_TEMP_TABLESPACE'
TEMP
I don't think the TEMP tablespace is not big enough. Because we just upgrated to 11g. I guess this issue is because of the difference of memory setttings.
Can also see another thread in this forum:
ORA-01652 Unable to extend temp segment by 128 in tablespace TEMP
Thanks!

  • After compressed the database table affect the system performance

There is a very big database table in my system called MSEG. It is about 910G and the wasted tablespace is about 330G. I want to compress the table, but the table is written and deleted frequently. will it affect the system performance if I compress the table. Or I can only select reorganize the dababase table avoid it affect the system performance? Thanks.

    Hi Huiyong,
If you talk about table compression, it cannot be done online. we need to do this with a planned downtime. Table compression has some percentage of overhead on CPU. Refer SAP note for

If you talk about online table reorg, yes definitely there would be impact on user performance.
As the table size is very big it may take some days or hours to perform online Reorg.
Other faster method is to perform table export import which is faster than online reorg. But it will again require downtime .
    Hope this helps.

The 15" Retina's will have better performance than any 13" Retina. Not only do the 15" machines have dedicated GPU's, but they also have quad-core processors, whereas the 13" Retina's only have dual-core processors.

Macbook Air case with magnets. Will it affect hardware or performance of product?

No, the low power N30 or N35 gauss neodymium magnets in the magnetic flap cases will not affect it.
There is no HD, and the SSD are hard (relatively) to corrupt by magnetic field unless high gauss and at close proximity.

    Thank you

    Hi Jairo,
As Cartesian product (no join conditions) selects large number of rows, it requires more exec time, temp space (if order by, group by, etc,..) , temp cache, main cache, threads.
To get close estimations about query resources consumtion, you can generate plans without execution using option NoExec.
    Query plan option recommended are : quary_name, query_plan, query_detail, query_plan_as_html, query_plan_as_html_directory, dml_options10.
    See Generating Query Plans
Note that other resource monitoring options can be enabled/used , but they require effectivel query exection. The info are collected once execution is finished with success. Eg. query_plan_after_run and query_timing.

  • Oracle 11g AMM (Automatic Memory Management)

    Hi All,
I have a very powerful server 24 Processors with 6 cores each and 74 GB RAM for my production database. The server will host only one production database. I wanted to use AMM for this database and allocate maximum memory to Oracle by setting memory_target. By default /dev/shm is set 37 GB but I wanted to increase it least 55 GB. I know I can get this changed by my system admin but I wanted to know how much memory should leave for OS?
Please help me on sizing this.
    Thanks,
    Arun Singh

    Automatic Memory Management
Starting with Oracle Database 11g, the Automatic Memory Management feature requires more shared memory (/dev/shm) and file descriptors. The shared memory should be sized to be at least the greater of MEMORY_MAX_TARGET and MEMORY_TARGET for each Oracle instance on the computer. To determine the amount of shared memory available, enter the following command: # df -k /dev/shm/
Note: MEMORY_MAX_TARGET and MEMORY_TARGET cannot be used when LOCK_SGA is enabled or with huge pages on Linux

  • 11g AMM - Diagnostic+Tuning Packs required?

Am I required to purchase a license for the Diagnostic+Tuning packs in order to utilize Automatic Memory Management (AMM) in Oracle 11g?  I haven't been able to find any documentation online stating so.

Oracle uses some features internally that you would have to pay for if you used them (even just accessing the tables).  But as long as you don't access them yourself, you are fine.  You can check the view DBA_FEATURE_USAGE_STATISTICS and the access is controlled by Options and Packs CONTROL_MANAGEMENT_PACK_ACCESS
If you have access to MOS, this is explained in AWR Reporting - Licensing Requirements Clarification (Doc ID 1490798.1)
Edit:  Oracle Database Comparisons | Oracle Database | Oracle search for "Automatic Memory" and it shows it is available for all editions, even though you can only even buy diagnostics on Enterprise.
Edit2:  Of course, some things you can use: https://blogs.oracle.com/optimizer/entry/does_the_use_of_sql

  • "FlushLogFiles" menu command in Forte e-console affects method call performance

Issue: When calling a Forte Wrapper Service Object of C Library on Unix, the execution of the call seems to be
affected by executing the "FlushLogFiles" menu command on the service. Without the "flushing", the execution seems
to take unreasonably long, even "hanging"; with the "flushing", the execution seems to reach expected performance.
    Env Details:
    Forte Verson: 5.0.3
    OS: Unix Solaris 8.0

I would check the C Library code and make sure you are not writing anything to standard output. That is the only thing I can think about that would cause this problem.

  • Will AirPort Express' own temperature affect it's performance?

I have an AE on my desk, flat on the surface. I've noticed that the side in contact with the desk's surface usually gets hot, but not sure how much. Does anyone know if this affects the performance or life of my AirPort Express?
    Thanks, TSF.

    Hi Tiger,
I am not sure, but I don't think it will be a problem. Just make sure that it has airflow around it. You don't want it to be covered up or something. The Airport Express is a heavy duty wireless router in a small package. My experience was in a hotel while traveling. I was in the shower and my little brother was playing games on my old G3 iBook. The Airport EX was connected to a lamp (the only outlet near the cable box), on the desk where my brother was playing. Somehow he knocked the lamp off the desk while it was on. It crashed, breaking the light and shocking the Airport EX. On one side of my Airport it is charred and black. It gets pretty hot at times, but I never have seen a difference.
Airport Express Feels Warm to The Touch talks about what you can do to solve the hot feeling. They also say that it is expected to get hot. Check it out.
    I hope that helps,

  • ORACLE 11g AMM

Hellow, my questions concern ORACLE 11g,
    First topic
    Tell me if i'm right:
    if i set server parameters:
    memory_max_target to 1.5 GB
    memory_target to 1GB
    pga_aggregate_target to 100MB
    sga_target to 500MB
Q1.That's mean DB will use at least 500MB for all SGA components and at least 100MB for Server Processes?
Q2.And if it's true Oracle will tune SGA szie above sga_target and for PGA above 100MB if necessary?
    Second topic:
    If I set :
    memory_max_target to 1.5 GB
    memory_target to 1GB
    pga_aggregate_target to 0
    sga_target to 0
Q3.That's mean DB wil tune SGA component's size and PGA buffer it self up to 1GB for both elements?
    Thanks for replay.

  • XP after SP2 installation affects SB Live performa

I recently installed XP SP2 and have since had trouble with my SB Li've card. I've tried reloading the software, to little avail. Certain drivers or other components simply don't load.
I've uninstalled as much of the previous software as I possibly can, and removed and replaced the card.
    Still no success. Please help?

    Hi,
have completed what I feel is a successful cleansweep. However, when I attempt to record in Cool Edit 2000, whilst I don't receive a message to the effect that there is no Soundblaster audio device installed, the sound replayed is hissy in the extreme and colourless (tinny).
It used to work perfectly, prior to XP SP2.
I'm a professional working in audio presentation, a lot of my editing was done at home. Now I can't do it, without upgrading to a superior sound card, at considerable expense.

Is there any way to get the Monthly Database performance report using OEM Grid Control... I am able to grab only one week data in Historical option....

  • Low performances when querying data dictionary Oracle 11g

    INNER JOIN user_cons_columns ucc_pk ON (ucc_pk.constraint_name = uc_fk.r_constraint_name AND ucc_pk.position = ucc_fk.position)
    WHERE
    uc_fk.constraint_type = 'R' AND
    uc_pk.constraint_type = 'P' AND
    uc_fk.table_name = 'TABLE_NAME';
works ok on 10g but is very slow on 11g? How to improve performances?

You dont need to join with user_constraints again unless you are trying to avoid references to a unique key.
    SELECT ucc_fk.column_name FK_COLUMN_NAME, ucc_pk.table_name PK_TABLE_NAME, ucc_pk.column_name PK_COLUMN_NAME
      FROM user_constraints uc_fk
           JOIN user_cons_columns ucc_fk
              ON (ucc_fk.constraint_name = uc_fk.constraint_name)
           JOIN user_cons_columns ucc_pk
              ON (ucc_pk.constraint_name = uc_fk.r_constraint_name
              AND ucc_pk.position = ucc_fk.position)
    WHERE uc_fk.constraint_type = 'R'
AND uc_fk.table_name = 'TABLE_NAME';As you can see I have removed the join to user_constraints and hence the condition uc_pk.constraint_type = 'P'
The reason being the it is already validated to be in ('P','U') for all r_constraint_names.
