An easy way to clean up Excel .hmtl pages?

I have 5 .html pages that are exported from Excel 2007. In essence they are the same spreadsheet, but sorted in different ways. They can be seen on http://ppbm5.com under the Benchmark Results options. This is one of the pages: http://ppbm5.com/Benchmark5.html
I export the spreadsheet from Excel as a webpage, have a .vbs script to insert the Spry tooltips and set the title, then upload them to the site. So far, so good. But, when using Firebug/Pagespeed I notice there are huge amounts of unused CSS code in the page, generated by Excel.
Up to now I have manually adjusted the pages, by first minifying the HTML, then editing in DW, deleting all the superfluous lines with unused CSS code and uploading again and repeating that for all 5 pages. Since these pages are updated sometimes daily with new results, this gets pretty tme consuming.
It results in much better performance after removing the unused CSS and with page sizes of around 1.2 MB each, but the workflow is far from optimal.

If you use Firebug/Pagespeed you will see the huge amount of unused CSS on this last page.
Is there a better way to get rid of all that unused CSS than the manual optimization?

I had the same problems every week using Excel '97
. In DW I created a "edit/find and replace" routine which i saved to delete various formatting tags which bloated the code.
that I didn't want on my web pages.
I now use Excel 2010 and find that the way to get the simplest table is to highlight the cells you want then use the copy command.
Then in DW paste the table and format it using css. This works much faster and the code is much leaner than before.

You can drag a selection of contacts into Numbers and it will grab a little of the Info, putting it in columns.

Is there an easy way to clean up HTML

I'm currently converting a lot of installation guides from PDF to HTML files, however, when the documents are output to HTML, the <p> tags have specific styles applied and they all vary and I find myself having to scour the code by hand. Would like to get through this much faster because I have dozens of files to edit.
Here is an example of what Acrobat creates.

I can't figure out how to replace variations of the above style using the Find/Replace tool. Ideally what I would like to do is replace the above with a simple <p> tag, the content is going to be placed in a Template page that has a master stylesheet.

I hate my new update. All pages are printed too small for my aging eyes! Yes I know how to do Command but don't want to do this every time. Also, more importantly, where is my Google search engine? And why no easy way to click back to previous page?

Okay, as soon as I sent this I figured out where Google search is!

The desktop, the mail, all webpages. I know there used to be a way to fix this in preferences but now cannot find it.

What did you just do? Did you by anychance change systems and import an old iPhoto library into the new one? NEVER do that - if you did drag the bad iPhoto library to the desktop and drag the old library to the pictures foldr of the new machine and launch iPhoto

If the Word file is a document file type (.doc), you may be able to save it as a .html file, then import that .html file into Firefox.
In Word, open the .doc file containing the Bookmarks,
*click File > Save As,
*in the "Save in" box, choose a Folder or location on your hard drive to save the file where you can find it later,
*in the "Save type as" box choose ".html",
*in the "Filename box" enter "bookmarks.html" (without the quotation marks),
*click "Save"
Then follow the-edmeister's instruction in Firefox:
*Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks -> Import & Backup - Import HTML... = from an HTML file

Is there an easy way to see how many rows in a table? (selected or unselected)

Hi all,
Forgive me if this is a REALLY dumb question but I would love to know if there there is an easy way to to see how many rows there are in a table in InDesign?
(And I bet I am really going to kick myself when I hear the answer and how simple it probably is..lol !)
I am working on a huge catalog and am dealing with LOTS of tables...very long tables too at times. I am also doing a lot of copying and pasting back and forth between InDesign and Excel and it would REALLY help if I knew how many rows there are in a table without having to manually count them (TIRESOME!!).
Also, is there a way to see how many rows I have selected at any one time? It would be SO WONDERFUL if the info box could also provide this information.

You need not select whole rows, just one or a couple of cells.
Then run the script.
An alert message is telling you how many rows belong to the cell range you have selected and:
which rows of the table are selected…
A typical message would be:
6 row(s) selected.
3 to 8 out of 20 of current table.
The script does some basic checks of the selection.
If no cell or table is selected, it will just do nothing…

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now. About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

Any Easy Way to pass initial parameters to a VI created with New VI?

In LabVIEW 2010 I can use OpenG's New VI function to create and launch a VI that is built from a template.
Is there any easy way to pass initial parameters from the VI that creates the New VI to the New VI that will be available as soon as the New VI starts?

Check out the Control Value Set invoke node. I personally don't like this node, and tst has got a great suggestion to promote cleaner, less fragile syntax for launching VI's dynamically that require input parameters.

Clearing Duplicates the Easy Way

Due to a rookie consolidation move, I've got duplicates of most of my music in my iTunes Music Folder--all in the same file. The duplicates I'd like to get rid of all have a "1" tacked on to them, like this:

I'd like to clear up space by removing all of those "1" duplicates, but I've got a ton of music to go through and select. What's the easiest way to select and delete duplicates?

Is there an easy way to get GPS coordinates from Maps.app in Mavericks?

My DSLR doesn't have a GPS built in, but I like to Geo-tag some of my photos. I usually just take a pic with my iPhone and then copy the geo data (GPS coordinates) and paste into the photos (in Adobe Lightroom). Unfortunately, I didn't have my phone with me. I have the location stored as a bookmark in Maps, but I don't see any easy way to just pull coordinates.

I am doing the same thing too. I have to call my reports thru menu. I tried web.show_document in my menu and it works. I also added paramform=yes and it gives the report parameters, but I want to give the user the choice of format for the reports. eg. pdf, html, excel, etc. instead of hardcoding it.

The easy way?

I must admit that this has saved me hours of time and ultimately brought me out of Flash retirement.
My question is this.
When creating a portfolio with thumbnails as buttons that change a larger image to what the thumbnail displays. Am I doing this right by creating several pages just to make an image appear for each individual image? Seems like allot to me and wondering if there is an easier way to accomplish this.
Also wondering if I should optimize the jpegs in Catalyst?

Pretty much, yes. Here are two ways to improve on your approach, however:
Place the thumbnails into a Data List. This makes it less work to edit things like item spacing/layout, or the selection highlight, since you don't have to do it once per thumbnail image. To display a different full-size image depending on which list item you clicked, create a series of "On Select" interactions using the "When a specific item is selected" option.
Put your image gallery into a custom component and have one state in the component for each image. This keeps your list of top-level application pages/states clean, so that if you later decide to add other screens such as contact info, info page, etc., they're not all mixed in alongside your image-specific states.

We here on the Catalyst team agree, and are looking into ways of making this simpler in a future version!

You should definitely optimize your images for the web by adjusting the resolution and compression settings. You can do this within Catalyst, or within the original tool that you used to create the jpegs (e.g. Photoshop's "Save for Web" command contains all the same optimization controls, and then some).
