Analyzing design and performance activities of infocube

Hi
I have one InfoCube(ZICSAST) of SD application area . It's model was very bad . They put all the characteristics in this infocube . And this InfoCube uses all 13-custom dimensions .
So i need analyze the performance and design aspects of this infocube .
So what i need analyze like Line Item Dimension ...etc ???
So pls let me what are the things i can analyze from this infocube.

Hi,
This is Thilak. There r so may aspects for designing a cube and to improve the performance. In order to design a cube.we have to consider 2 things.
1.Reducing number of dim tables and
2.Reducing no of records.
Note:
1. If the Relation between the master data tables is 1:m or 1:1 then go for assigning single sid table to single dim table.
2. If the relation in m:m then go for assigning multiple sid tables to single dim table.
Performance:
1.        When u r designing a cube first think  is there any requirement of report based on Calyear/month or fiscyearperiod. If there is any requirement then go for partitionong a cube.
2.     If u going to assign a single sid table to single dim table then go for making that dim table as "LINE ITEM DIMENSION TABLE"

  • Servlet - JSP design and performance (Tomcat)

    Hi everybody.
I'm new in Tomcat and servlet/JSP development.
My current design involves only one servlet (does the business logic, JSP page selections) which delegates the requests to several JSP-s (the JSP-s are included with the "jsp:include" tag).
    The questions:
    1. Has this design some performance drawbacks in contrast with a design in which several servlets are used (some of the included JSP pages will be the same)?
    2. How Tomcat resolves concurent requests (if the same servlet is involved or two separate servlets are involved)?
    Any response is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

A few things to keep in mind:
Every JSP is really a Servlet. Behind the scenes, these are compiled into Servlets which are then run. So, you really do have an implementation with more than one Servlet.
Controller Servlet's (one per JVM) are a very popular architecture choice. Struts, Spring and a number of other frameworks use this model. There should not be a difference between running multiple versus a single Servlet, and even if there is, your application undoubtedly has scaling bottlenecks other than this (probably orders of magnitude higher) than worrying about this particular issue.
Tomcat dispatches the request to whatever Servlet satisfies the servlet-mapping that the URL matches. Since Servlet's are designed to be written thread-safe, and since the container will manage those instances, do not worry.- Saish

  • InfoCube Design and Partitioning

Hi All, when we design an InfoCube, like when we decide which craracteristics to go in which dimension, does partitioning decided at this time as well? If os, please provide some details?
Can somebody guide me on this? thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Both Infocube design and Partitioning will help in improving the performance.
Partioning will be decided based on the data to be stored in the Infocube. If for example, lets assume that the cube will hold 15 yrs of data. As you know, partiontioning can be done only based on Fiscal Year or Calmonth
If partioning is done on Fiscal Year, we might decide to go for 15 partitions as we have 15 yrs of data. If we decide to go for 7 partitions, then 2 yrs of data will be stored in each partition.  Like wise for Calmonths, we might go for 15*12 partitions.
If your system is 3.5, data should not be there to do partioning, if your system is BI7, partioning can be done even if data is present in the cube.

  • Color and styles of the performance point scorecard changing between designer and published version.

    Greetings specialists!
I'm experiencing a problem with one of my scorecards. I designed the scorecard using performance point dashboard designer and used it to color the top level KPI letter white. The rest of the letters is using a dark grey, but when I use the socrecard in a
webpart in a performance point webpage all the letters appear colored in dark grey including the top level kpi letters which in the designer have been parametrised to use white.
Is it some sort of problem or known bug? It there any reason that can explain this erratic behaviour? Maybe it's inheriting the style from something else??! Any ideas clues or something I can do to help solve the problem?
    Thanks in advance!

The first thing will be to determine what is overriding the colors. Follow this guide to select the object that is the wrong color and post a screenshot of the CSS styles that are being applied (in the right panel).

  • Diff b/w Run time Analyizer(se30),Sql Trace (st05) and Performance Analyzie

Can any one tell me the Diff b/w Run time Analyizer(se30),Sql Trace (st05) and Performance Analyzie(al21) ?

    Hi
these all are doing t he same thing that is checking the program for better performance
    Tools for Performance Analysis
    Run time analysis transaction SE30
    SQL Trace transaction ST05
    Extended Program Check (SLIN)
    Code Inspector ( SCI)
Run time analysis transaction SE30 :This transaction gives all the analysis of an ABAP program with respect to the database and the non-database processing.
SQL Trace transaction ST05: The trace list has many lines that are not related to the SELECT statement in the ABAP program. This is because the execution of any ABAP program requires additional administrative SQL calls. To restrict the list output, use the filter introducing the trace list.
The trace list contains different SQL statements simultaneously related to the one SELECT statement in the ABAP program. This is because the R/3 Database Interface - a sophisticated component of the R/3 Application Server - maps every Open SQL statement to one or a series of physical database calls and brings it to execution. This mapping, crucial to R/3s performance, depends on the particular call and database system. For example, the SELECT-ENDSELECT loop on a particular database table of the ABAP program would be mapped to a sequence PREPARE-OPEN-FETCH of physical calls in an Oracle environment.
The WHERE clause in the trace list's SQL statement is different from the WHERE clause in the ABAP statement. This is because in an R/3 system, a client is a self-contained unit with separate master records and its own set of table data (in commercial, organizational, and technical terms). With ABAP, every Open SQL statement automatically executes within the correct client environment. For this reason, a condition with the actual client code is added to every WHERE clause if a client field is a component of the searched table.
To see a statement's execution plan, just position the cursor on the PREPARE statement and choose Explain SQL. A detailed explanation of the execution plan depends on the database system in use.
    Extended Program Check
This can be called in through transaction SE38 or through transaction SLIN. This indicates possible problems that may cause performance problems.
    Code Inspector (SCI)
You can call the Code Inspector from the ABAP Editor (SE38), the Function Builder (SE37), the Class Builder (SE24), or as a separate transaction (SCI).
The Code Inspector indicates possible problems. However, note that, especially with performance issues: There is no rule without exception. If a program passes an inspection, it does not necessarily mean that this program will have no performance problems.

  • Reg: Open and Closed Activities in DTR

    Hello Guru's,
I am confused with the Open and Closed Activities in DTR, What are the significance of these activities?
And when does an Open Activity changes to Closed Activity?
And why does an Empty Open Activity gets created?
How does the Open Activities effect the Performance of the system?
In NWDS what is the significance of the Public Part and the dcdef xml files?
Please explain and if possible send the links to better understand these? I tried searching for info but with no luck.
    Appreciate the Help.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Pramod

    Dear Pramod,
Activity in general can be considered as the wrapper of your changes.
While working in NWDI, any modification that you perform on your source code must be associated with an Activity.
    Some Definitions:
Client DTR: Represents the Local Track file system present on you local machine, where Checked-out a desired code from Server DTR
Server DTR: Represents the Central Repository present on the server, where your source code is checked-in.
    Open Activities
These are the activities that are not yet checked-in to Server-DTR, and they represent the Open Version.
    Exmple:
    1) Suppose you have made some modification in "File A" which is associated in Activity-1
    2) When you open the DTR Perspective in your Developer studio, you will be able to see all the changes that you have associated in the Activity-1, this DTR-perspective of your NWDS is also termed as Client-DTR.
    3) But, when you open the Server-DTR in DTR Web interface, you will not be able to see the same file structure that is present in your client DTR, it will not contain the changes that you have incorporated in Activity-1.
    4) The changes present in Activity-A are not available to any other developers, even if you try to use the same developer ID and load the same track, the activities are still said to be purely Local.
    Closed Activities
These are the activities that are already Checked-in to Server-DTR and they represent Closed Version.
    Example:
    1) In the same example explained above assume that we now Check-in the Activity-1.
    2) Now, if you open the Server-DTR in DTR Web Interface, you will be able to see the same file structure that is present in your Client-DTR.
    3) Now the changes that were present in Activity-A are also available to other developers too.
    Open Activity and Performance
    1) Open Activities create a temporary entry point reference on the Server DTR you can serach for open activities in Secer DTR web interface, every single activity occupies space on your local machine. So it may affect the performance only if the activity count is very high.
    2) In the local file system, the meta data is stored in the .dcdef file in the _comp
    subfolder.
    3) The meta data is stored in the .dcdef file, every public part has its own meta data file. They are located in the def subfolder of the component and have the fileextension pp.
Every component (DC) is defined by a set of files, stored and versioned together with the
    component in the repository.
u2022 A file with the reserved name .dcdef stores the basic attributes such as name,
description and component type, the parent component (if there is one), a list
of child components (if there are any), a list of dependencies, links to the component
sources, and the access control list. The .dcdef file must be stored directly
    in the _comp folder.
u2022 The folder _comp/def contains one file for each public part of the component,
which carries the name of the public part with the extension .pp. This file contains a list
of the development objects belonging to the public part and an access control list for
    this public part.
Both .dcdef and .pp files are stored in an XML-based format; you can display them in the
content display of the Repository Browser or with any text editor. However, this is
not necessary. To create and edit these files, use the component tools of the SAP NetWeaver
    Developer Studio.
In exceptions, you can manually repair the .dcdef or a .pp file of a component.
Note that direct manipulations are dangerous and can render a component
    unusable.
I hope you will get a clear picture now.

  • Database design and pl/sql vs external procedures

    hi,
My project involves predicting arrival time of a bus at a bus-stop, given statistical data of traffic patterns on the previous ‘n’(say 3) days, as well as the current location of the bus(latitude-longitude).
Given current bus location, I derive my distance-until-destination bus-stop, which must be translated into time until arrival.
Ive enlisted the triggers and procedures involved in making the prediction. Thse procedures especially the determination of perpendicular distances involve some complex trigonometric operations. I would like to know if my approach is correct and my database design is suited for the operations to b performed.
Will it be more efficient to implement the procedures as external procedures or as pl/sql blocks
    This is my database design:
LINKS ( a link is the road segment between adjacent bus-stops)
    LINK_ID                NUMBER      [PRIMARY-KEY]
    START_LATITUDE          NUMBER
    START_LONGITUDE     NUMBER
    START_STOP_ID          NUMBER
    END_LATITUDE          NUMBER
    END_LONGITUDE          NUMBER
    END_STOP_ID          NUMBER
    LINK_LENGTH          NUMBER
    BUS_ROUTE
    ROUTE_ID               NUMBER
    LINKS_ENROUTE          VARRAY(30) OF NUMBER
    STOPS_ENROOUTE          VARRAY(30) OF NUMBER
TRACK(keeps track of current location of bus)
    BUS_ID           NUMBER          [PRIMARY-KEY]
    ROUTE          VARCHAR2(20)
    LATITUDE          NUMBER
    LONGITUDE          NUMBER
    TS               TIMESTAMP
    LINK_ID          NUMBER
    START_STOP     NUMBER
    END_STOP          NUMBER
ARRIVAL_TIMES(actual arrival times of the bus, updated by track)
    BUS_ID           NUMBER     [PRIMARY-KEY]
    BUS_ROUTE          VARCHAR2(20)
    ARRIVAL          TIMESTAMP
    STOP_ID          NUMBER
    ETA (expected time of arrival)
    BUS_ID          NUMBER
    BUS_ROUTE          VARCHAR2(20)
    BUS_STOP_ID     NUMBER
    ARR_TIME          VARRAY(5) OF TIMESTAMP
    Triggers and procedures
    1)TRACK_TRIGGER
On insert/update of track determine which link the us is currently on.
Invoke a procedure that calculates perpendicular distance from current location to all links en-route (cursor on LINKS).
Results are stored in a temporary table. Select the link-id of the tuple whose perpendicular distance is MINIMUM. This is the link the bus is currently on. Place link-id, start_stop_id and end_stop_id in corresponding row of TRACK.
    2)ARRIVAL_TRIGGER
update ARRIVAL_TIMES.and store in ARRIVAL_TIMES that start-stop id with the time-stamp of the current track record.
b)update ETA: Find the BUS-STOPS that come before the START_STOP of current track record. All these rows are deleted from the ETA tables, as the bus has already crossed these stops.
    3)Prediction Algorithm Procedure.
Determine distance until destination for each STOP, 20 stops down from stop current location.
Determine current avg. speed of the bus over a 2 hour window, by dividing total distance traveled by time taken.
Calculate time-until arrival T1=current avg. speed * distance until destination
From the records of previous ‘n’ days (say n=3) find those buses on the same route that were near the link the bus is currently on. Again determine avg speed over 2 hour window and calculate avg. speed.
    Calculate travel time T(i) = speed*distance until destination.     i.=2,3, 4…
The final predicted arrival time is a weighted sum of all T(i).
I hope Im not asking for too much, but the help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thankyou,
    Amina

    hello,
actually i can manage ETA without a varray, since there will b a maxximum of 3 -4 values of expected arrival times at each stop. this can b done with separate columns.
though i dont quite understand how lag() will help me...from what i understand lag() is to access values of previous rows. but in ETA table each element in the varray(if there is one) is going to be the expected arrival time of buses on a particular route at that particular stop, and is different from the arrival time at a previous stop(i.e.row).
but for my other table BUS_ROUTE i have 2 varrays describing the links and stops enroute. in quite a few procedures i have to loop through these arrays and perform some calculations in every iteration is varray the best way 2 go, or nested tables?
    Thank you
    Amina
As an aside, external procedures tend by their very
nature to be slow - there's an overhead incurred
each time we step outside the database. Therefore
you really ought to avoid using a C extproc unless
your calculations really cannot be done in PL/SQL or
    a Java Stored Procedure.
Also, before you go down the VARRAY route you should
consider the virues of analytic functions, notably
    [url=http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B1050
    1_01/server.920/a96540/functions56a.htm#83619]LAG()[/u
rl]. I think you really ought to do some
benchmarking of parformance before you start afdding
denormalised columns like ETA. You may find the
overhead in maintaining those columns exceeds their
    perceived benefits.
    Cheers, APC

  • Important!! Improve the life and performance of the battery.

Reduce the operating temperature and increase battery life
The battery in your notebook PC is designed to provide the necessary amount of energy for the processor while maintaining HP high safety standards. As a result, the battery may not charge or may stop providing power to the notebook when the battery temperature exceeds the specified, design safety level.
If the battery life appears shorter than normal, the battery stops charging before it is 99%-100% full and the battery appears warmer than usual, the battery has most likely reached its designed "no charge" safety state. The battery will no longer charge until the temperature condition is corrected.
Try one of the following methods to correct the battery temperature:
When charging the battery, do not use applications that require large amounts of system resources such as graphic or memory intensive applications, heavy and extended hard drive usage.
Turn off your notebook and remove the battery to allow it to return to a safe operating temperature.
Make sure the notebook PC is operating on a hard surface. Using the Notebook PC on a bed or sofa may block the vents causing the notebook PC to heat up and shut down.
By taking these steps, the battery will return to its normal operating temperature range and continue to charge and discharge as designed.
Calibrating the battery while PC not in use
Recalibrating the battery requires a cycle of a complete charge and a complete discharge. To recalibrate the battery while using the PC is not is use complete the following steps.
The recalibration may take 1-5 hours depending on the age of the battery and the configuration of the notebook PC you own. The PC should not be used while you perform the following steps. Completing all the following steps will also calibrate the battery so that the power meter readings are accurate.
    Shut down the notebook PC
Connect the AC Adapter to the notebook PC and to an electrical socket.
Charge the Notebook PC until the Battery Charge light is Green. This indicates the battery is completely charged.
Press and release the Power Button to start the computer.
Press the F8 key several times when the HP Logo displays.
When the Windows Advanced Startup Menu displays, select the Startup in Safe Mode option.
Remove the AC power adapter from the notebook PC.
Allow the battery to discharge completely until the notebook PC turns off.
The battery is now calibrated and the battery level reading on the power meter is now accurate.
If you are not using the notebook regularly then please unplug the AC adapter and shut down the notebook. By following these practices will improve the life and performance of the battery. Here is a quick list of Do's and Don'ts for the care of your Li-On batteries:
    Do's
When you receive a new Notebook or Tablet PC, leave the battery to fully charge overnight.
Condition a new battery by using it until it is fully discharged, and then re-charge it fully. Doing this once a month will help to accurately calibrate your battery.
Always ensure the battery is recharged as soon as possible after it becomes fully discharged. A battery will be permanently damaged if left for an extended length of time in a fully discharged state.
Remember that a Lithium-Ion battery will slowly deteriorate; a new battery will always perform better than one that is 6-months old.
Remember that the battery half-life is rated for a certain total number of charge/discharge cycles (see your User Manual or Quick Start Guide for the rating). For example, a battery that is rated for 3 hours and 500 charge/discharge cycles, will still be considered as within specification, even if it only lasts for 1 hour 45 minutes after 500 charge/discharge cycles.
Heat is the worst enemy of a battery. Allow plenty of air to circulate around the Notebook/Tablet PC, so that the battery is kept as cool as possible when charging and also when in use. If provided, use the integrated 'legs' under the Notebook to raise the notebook and improve air circulation.
Remove the battery if storing for several months (the battery should be at approximately 50% charge or higher).
If you use a NoteBus or if charging your Notebooks or Tablet PCs in a confined space, allow for adequate ventilation in order to keep the batteries as cool as possible.
    Don'ts
Do Not - Expose the battery to excessive heat or cold (i.e. outside the range of 10-35 degrees Centigrade ambient).
Do Not - Store the battery in a fully charged state (store batteries with about 50% charge).
Do Not - Allow a nearly flat battery to be unused for more than a month or so. The battery will slowly discharge until it becomes fully discharged and this will permanently damage the battery cells.
Do Not - Charge your Notebook/Tablet PC inside a carry case - the battery may overheat.
Do Not - Charge your Notebook/Tablet PC when stacked on top of each other - the battery may overheat.
Remember: Your battery is slowly degrading all the time, even if it is not used. Keeping your battery as cool as possible will slow down this degradation considerably.

  • Logical Database design and physical database implementation

    Hi
I am an ORACLE DBA basically and we started a proactive server dashboard portal ,which basically reports all aspects of our infrastructure (Dev,QA and Prod, performance, capacity, number of servers,No of CPU,decomissioned date,OS level,Database patch level) etc..
This has to be done entirely by our DBA team as this is not externally funded project. Now i was asked to do " Logical Database design and physical Database
    implementation"
Even though i know roughly what's that mean(like designing whole set of tables in star schema format) ,i have never done this before.
In my mind i have a rough set of tables that can be used but again i think there is lot of engineering involved in this area to make sure that we do it properly.
I am wondering you guys might be having some recommendations for me in the sense where to start?are there any documents online , are there any book on this topic? Are there any documents which explain this phenomena with examples ?
Also exactly what is the difference between logical database design vs physical database implementation
    Thanks and Regards

Logical database design is the process of taking a business or conceptual data model (often described in the form of an Entity-Relationship Diagram) and transforming that into a logical representation of that model using the specific semantics of the database management system. In the case of an RDBMS such as Oracle, this representation would be in the form of definitions of relational tables, primary, unique and foreign key constraints and the appropriate column data types supported by the RDBMS.
Physical database implementation is the process of taking the logical database design and translating that into the actual DDL statements supported by the target RDBMS that will create the database objects in a target RDBMS database. This will generally include specific physical implementation details such as the specification of tablespaces, use of specialised indexing (bitmap, clustered etc), partitioning, compression and anything else that relates to how data will actually be physically stored inside the database.
It sounds like you already have a physical implementation? If so, you can reverse engineer this implementation into a design tool such as SQL Developer Data Modeller. This will create a logical design by examining the contents of the Oracle data dictionary. Even if you don't have an existing database, Data Modeller is a good tool to use as a starting point for logical and even conceptual/business models.
If you want to read anything about logical design, "An Introduction to Database Systems" by Date is always a good starting point. "Database Systems - A Practical Approach to Design, Implementation and Management" by Connolly & Begg is also an excellent reference.

  • Business Intelligence and performance point problem

    Hi Everyone,
Please does anyone know why creating a dashboard from a Sharepoint list is such a hassle. I have configured performance point services, a secure store and a business intelligent website that has a data connection library and  Performance Point content
list . Unfortunately anytime I try to use dashboard designer to create a new data source and specify the site settings(using unattended account method) I can't save it. It gives me an error claiming that I either don't have permissions or the data source
    doesn't exist.
A search around the web for answers doesn't seems to solve my problem as it suggests that the problem is associate with many things which I'm not clear about. Please could someone who is good at this at least tell me the critical things to check and the
clearest way to set this up.
    Thanks,
    Dominic

    Hi Dominic,
According to your error " I either don't have permissions or the data source doesn't exist", it should be related to the unattended account permission.
Once the unattended service account has been configured, you must grant that account access to your data sources:
For SQL Server data, the account must have a SQL logon with db_datareader permissions on each database that you want to access.
For SQL Server Analysis Services data, the account must have read access to the cube or an appropriate portion of the cube, depending on your needs.

  • CS6 Design and Web Premium install failure (OS X)

    Hello all,
I recently was given the chance to upgrade to CS6 Design and Web Premium through my educational instutition. I first uninstalled my CS5.5 installation that I previously had through them. Now, whenever I run the CS6 installer, the timer keeps going up on the "Running package scripts" step until it reaches ~32 minutes and then it says that the installation failed. I can literally watch the CS6 pplication folders gradually appear in my Applications folder, and then the installation just reaches a point where it starts deleting everything in the folder. I have tried everything from running the Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool (nothing comes up), analyzing my installer logs with the Adobe Support Advisor (again, nothing), installing using a root account (same problem), installing in Safe Boot Mode (again, same problem), and deleting the Adobe folders in my Library/ApplicationSupport folders. I'm on OS X 10.8.2 and had no problems installing/uninstalling CS5.5.
    Thank you for your help!
    Here are my installer logs:

Looks like another instance of the Adobe installer not being able to modify/remove /Library/ColorSync/Profiles. Typicaly in cases like that you can rename "/Library/ColorSync/Profiles" to something like "/Library/ColorSync/Profiles-old" (you'll need Administrator rights to do that) and then rerun the installer. Should go off without a hitch at that point. You can move back any custom profiles you had in the original Profiles folder post-install.

  • I need to sort very large Excel files and perform other operations.  How much faster would this be on a MacPro rather than my MacBook Pro i7, 2.6, 15R?

I am a scientist and run my own business.  Money is tight.  I have some very large Excel files (~200MB) that I need to sort and perform logic operations on.  I currently use a MacBookPro (i7 core, 2.6GHz, 16GB 1600 MHz DDR3) and I am thinking about buying a multicore MacPro.  Some of the operations take half an hour to perform.  How much faster should I expect these operations to happen on a new MacPro?  Is there a significant speed advantage in the 6 core vs 4 core?  Practically speaking, what are the features I should look at and what is the speed bump I should expect if I go to 32GB or 64GB?  Related to this I am using a 32 bit version of Excel.  Is there a 64 bit spreadsheet that I can us on a Mac that has no limit on column and row size?

    Grant Bennet-Alder,
It’s funny you mentioned using Activity Monitor.  I use it all the time to watch when a computation cycle is finished so I can avoid a crash.  I keep it up in the corner of my screen while I respond to email or work on a grant.  Typically the %CPU will hang at ~100% (sometimes even saying the application is not responding in red) but will almost always complete the cycle if I let it go for 30 minutes or so.  As long as I leave Excel alone while it is working it will not crash.  I had not thought of using the Activity Monitor as you suggested. Also I did not realize using a 32 bit application limited me to 4GB of memory for each application.  That is clearly a problem for this kind of work.  Is there any work around for this?   It seems like a 64-bit spreadsheet would help.  I would love to use the new 64 bit Numbers but the current version limits the number of rows and columns.  I tried it out on my MacBook Pro but my files don’t fit.
    The hatter,
This may be the solution for me. I’m OK with assembling the unit you described (I’ve even etched my own boards) but feel very bad about needing to step away from Apple products.  When I started computing this was the sort of thing computers were designed to do.  Is there any native 64-bit spreadsheet that allows unlimited rows/columns, which will run on an Apple?  Excel is only 64-bit on their machines.
Many thanks to both of you for your quick and on point answers!
