  • Hyperion EPM: Will Oracle Express suffice for Shared Services and Registry?

    Hi.
    I'm trying to install Hyperion EPM on Linux to make use of the Hyperion Interactive Reporting server components to allow report scheduling, web delivery of reports, etc. My data sources will all be MySQL. I'm at the point where I'm attempting to use the EPM Configurator for setting up Shared Services and Registry Database Connection. It seems my options for choosing a database on which to allow Shared Services and Registry data to reside are limited to 3: Oracle, SQL Server or DB2 (noticeably absent is MySQL)
    So, it looks like I'm going to have to install an Oracle DB instance at the very least.
    My question is this:
    Can I get away with just installing Oracle Express for the Shared Services and Registry or will I have to install a full blown Oracle DB instance?
    Thanks
    -- Tom

    Hi, I confirm that you can use Oracle Express for Shared services and registry. We have installed the complete EPM platform on a single virtual machine using Oracle Express. It’s interesting to use it because Oracle Express use less resource. We can run this virtual machine on a computer that only have 4GB of RAM and get good performance (for a single user).
    I recommend using it for proof-of-concept and Bootcamps.

  • Servlet - JSP design and performance (Tomcat)

    Hi everybody.
    I'm new in Tomcat and servlet/JSP development.
    My current design involves only one servlet (does the business logic, JSP page selections) which delegates the requests to several JSP-s (the JSP-s are included with the "jsp:include" tag).
    The questions:
    1. Has this design some performance drawbacks in contrast with a design in which several servlets are used (some of the included JSP pages will be the same)?
    2. How Tomcat resolves concurent requests (if the same servlet is involved or two separate servlets are involved)?
    Any response is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    A few things to keep in mind:
    Every JSP is really a Servlet. Behind the scenes, these are compiled into Servlets which are then run. So, you really do have an implementation with more than one Servlet.
    Controller Servlet's (one per JVM) are a very popular architecture choice. Struts, Spring and a number of other frameworks use this model. There should not be a difference between running multiple versus a single Servlet, and even if there is, your application undoubtedly has scaling bottlenecks other than this (probably orders of magnitude higher) than worrying about this particular issue.
    Tomcat dispatches the request to whatever Servlet satisfies the servlet-mapping that the URL matches. Since Servlet's are designed to be written thread-safe, and since the container will manage those instances, do not worry.- Saish

  • Analyzing design and performance activities of infocube

    Hi
    I have one InfoCube(ZICSAST) of SD application area . It's model was very bad . They put all the characteristics in this infocube . And this InfoCube uses all 13-custom dimensions .
    So i need analyze the performance and design aspects of this infocube .
    So what i need analyze like Line Item Dimension ...etc ???
    So pls let me what are the things i can analyze from this infocube.

    Hi,
        This is Thilak. There r so may aspects for designing a cube and to improve the performance. In order to design a cube.we have to consider 2 things.
    1.Reducing number of dim tables and
    2.Reducing no of records.
    Note:
    1. If the Relation between the master data tables is 1:m or 1:1 then go for assigning single sid table to single dim table.
    2. If the relation in m:m then go for assigning multiple sid tables to single dim table.
    Performance:
    1.        When u r designing a cube first think  is there any requirement of report based on Calyear/month or fiscyearperiod. If there is any requirement then go for partitionong a cube.
    2.     If u going to assign a single sid table to single dim table then go for making that dim table as "LINE ITEM DIMENSION TABLE"

  • Inconsistence with oracle express and toad

    I created two accounts(A and B) under system account under oracle express, then under system, A and B account, I created one table for each account (USER_TABLE) . I can see all three tables from oracle express. But I can't see the tables from toad. Even I can't see A andB schema from toad. Anyone knows what's the problem.
    Thanks,
    -- Allen --

    I think I access to the correct db since there is only one db instance. Only system has the DBA privilege, A and B just regular account. The accounts I created from oracle express should reflect to toad, I can't see them, but I can see HR schema from toad.

  • Display blob field image in Oracle Express

    Hi,
    I upgraded the apex in my Oracle express edition to 3.2 and tried to display image in blob field following the step in the Apex tutorial,
    but the error '*The requested operation is not allowed* ' prompt.
    I save the image file in a table with fields mime1,picture1=> blob field.
    I created a problem as follow:

    v_mime VARCHAR2(48);
    v_length NUMBER;
    v_file_name VARCHAR2(2000);

    from hotels_pic where hotel_id=1;
    -- set up HTTP header
    -- use an NVL around the mime type and

    -- set the size so the browser knows how much to download
    htp.p('Content-length: ' || v_length);
    -- the filename will be used by the browser if the users does a save as
    htp.p('Content-Disposition: attachment;

    -- close the headers
    owa_util.http_header_close;
    -- download the BLOB
    wpg_docload.download_file( Lob_loc );
    end download_my_file;
    GRANT EXECUTE ON download_my_file TO apex_PUBLIC_user;
    GRANT EXECUTE ON download_my_file TO public;
    I tried display the image by using <img src="#OWNER#.download_my_file?p_hotel_id=1" height=60 width=40 /img>
    But the image don't display...
    if I type http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex/HOTEL.download_my_file?p_hotel_id=1 to display the picture , the error " Forbidden,The requested operation is not allowed" prompt.
    Am I miss out anything? Anyone can help?
    Thanks
    Vincent

    Hi,
    I use a slightly difference code to display images: [http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=267:11]
    It is possible that your GRANT command needs to be for PUBLIC instead of public - some things are case-sensitive.
    Also, have you checked in SQL Workshop, Object Browser, Procedures to see if your procedure is valid?

  • Oracle Express Performance

    Hi,
    We are using Oracle Express 6.3.2 & Oracle 8.1.5 for a decision
    support system that we are building.
    We are using a server with 2GB RAM, Dual CPU( 550MHz) along with
    more than 100 GB HDD.The OS being used is Windows NT enterprise
    edition server 4.0.On which both Oracle Relational database and
    Express express server resides.
    The building of multi-dimensional database(MDDB) doesn't take
    time, we are using around 9 dimensions with total data in MDDB
    being in the range of 5- 10 Lakhs records.The building time is
    about 3 minutes.
    However, the running of an application(XPJ) based on the MDDB
    takes lot of time. The report takes about 2 Minutes to appear
    and situtation is even worse in what-if analysis kind of
    reports!.The MDDB is being accessed from Windows NT Client
    workstation 4.0 with 128 MB RAM.
    We have read Oracle Express Performance Tuning and Database
    Design Guide which is available from both Oracle Technology
    Network (technet.oracle.com) and Metalink, however it doesn't
    seem to be of much help.The sparsity etc. have been taken care
    of by us.
    CAN ANYBODY PROVIDE ASSISTANCE ON THIS ISSUE OR IS IT NORMAL
    THING TO EXPECT FROM ORACLE EXPRESS????...., .Request someone to
    respond to this issue, as it very urgent & bothersome to us.
    Thanks

    Dear Friend,
    I am trying to configure reports for express data and in this regard I have done the following :
    1.Machine A having reports 9i Developer suite Release 2 and Pluggable Express Connection Editor installed on Windows 2000 professional.
    2.Machine B having which Express Server 6.3.4 installed on Windows 2000 professional.
    3.In Machine A created user OESDBA with Administrator privilige.
    In the reports I am able to connect to the Express Server and attach the database and choose the measure.Once all the other steps are done I am able to print the data on the reports.
    But if I use a parameter form in which I give the HOST,USER and PASSWORD then substitute the same in the express_server parameter value in the AFTER PARAMETER FORM trigger block then the report gives an error saying that
    Express query contains incorrect,missing or damaged information.
    How to solve this error ?
    Can you please help.

  • Oracle Express(Analytical workspace?) and Oracle warehousebuilder

    Can somebody please explain when and why to use
    Oracle Express(Analytical workspace?) and Oracle warehousebuilder.
    When should each of these tools be used?

    Oracle Express is an old, de-supported product that has been replaced by Oracle Database OLAP Server http://otn.oracle.com/products/bi/olap/olap.html.
    Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB) is a data integration design and management tool. One of OWB's areas of functionality is enabling OLAP. All OWB OLAP related materials are summarized and linked from OWB Self-service Education page here http://otn.oracle.com/products/warehouse/selfserv_edu/OLAP_cube_creation.html

  • Deploying Oracle Express and Java Application in one installation

    Is there a way to deploy a Java application using Oracle express as the back end in one installation? So in other words, rather than installing oracle express separately from the application, we are looking to install from one executable including both the java application and all the necessary components for oracle express to run.
    Your help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Mahmoud

    Hello,
    you can install the database using a response file. Depending on the installer of your Java application you could create a kind of meta-installer that creates a response file for the database as well as one response/parameter file for your application installer and hence run both in one step.
    See the [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17781_01/install.112/e18802/toc.htm#BABCCGCF]corresponding section of the Installation Guide for details on the response file.

  • Oracle Express and regedit

    Hi!
    I installed Oracle Express on Windows XP and I want to use PL/SQL Developer (could be any other tool) to develop with pl/sql. But I realize that the Express installation does not creates the usual HOME0 or HOME1 nor ALL_HOMES Oracle entries in the regedit, and I need them so my tool can detect the instance.
    Why the Oracle Express does not create these entries in regedit and how can I create them? I don't know which entries I need.
    Regards

    Hi,
    Thank you for your fast response.
    RPuttagunta, with the new PL/SQL Developer 7 trial it works fine and the database name XE is found, but with earlier versions like 5.0 (which is what we got in my project) it doesn't work. A workaround I found is to manually create the HOME1 and ALL_HOMES entries in the regedit, taking as a reference an Oracle 9i client installation. My question is if that regedit entries are present in the 10g and future versions, or we will have to patch all the installations.
    Legatti, SQL Developer is fine and I liked, but PL/SQL Dev still has some additional features we are used to work with. Anyway I will suggest it to the manager as an alternative to get an upgrade of PL/SQL, since it is free to use.
    Thanks & Regards

  • Oracle Express Edition And Windows Encrypted File System (EFS)

    Hello,
    I want to use oracle express edition with windows encrypted file system. I tried some possibilities like encrypting xe folder. But connection can not be established when efs is used. Is there a compatibility problem between oracle xe and windows efs? On Oracle's page, it is declared that oracle database is compatible with Windows EFS.
    Thank you for help.

    Pl identify which version of Win 7 - 32-bit or 64-bit ? Home version or something else ?
    The 11g XE install is only available for 32-bit version of Win 7 Professional or higher - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17781_01/install.112/e18803/toc.htm#BABHICJH. If you are installing on 64-bit version or Home version of Windows, then you are on your own. What is the reason for enabling EFS on this database ?

  • Oracle Reports 6.x and Oracle Express Server

    What are the benefits of using Oracle Reports in conjunction with Oracle Express Server? We are currently using OFA for planning and forecasting, and are evaluating Oracle Reports as a tool to produce and publish key financial reports for a large user community. Is there any benefit in using Oracle Reports rather than just creating and publishing the reports directly within OFA?
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Bill,
    we tried to use Reports 6i with Express server. There were many troubles.
    1. It is very hard task to establish connection Reports/Express
    2. It is not possible to enter parameters for the reports
    3.There are limitation on the number of dimensions in the report

  • Calculating the memory and performance of a oracle query

    Hi,
    I am now developing application in java with oracle as a back-end. In my application i require lot of queries to be executed. Hence, the system is getting is slow due to queries.
    So, i planned to develop one Stand-alone application in java, that should show the statistics like, memory and performance. for ex:- if i enter one SQL query in the text box, my standalone application should display, the processing time it requires to fetch the values and the memory is used for that query.
    Can anybody give ideas, suggestion, etc etc...
