Anchored Frame with auto shrink wrap

Hi
I have an issue that I need help with.
I'm importing a range of graphics into my document and in my read/write rules I have all of the required properties to the images.  When the images are imported they are correctly displaying (size etc) but the default margin of the anchored frame is still there.  Is there any way that you can automatically apply the shrink wrap to the anchored frame (or set the anchored frame to have a default margin of 0?).
Some of the images that we have are only 5mm x 5mm and there may be several of these on a single page.  Therefore selecting each individual image and pressing Esc m p to shrink wrap will become a very time consuming process.
Any suggestions that may be provided would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Reeta.

You want Bruce Foster's ImpGraph plug in.

It works well.

  • Converting All Figures in Anchored Frames With Callouts

    I need to take a few hundred linked graphics in anchored frames that have FrameMaker callouts,save them as PNG files with the callouts embedded (yes, I know I won't be able to edit the callouts later) using different names (or another location), and relink to the new graphics. Doing this one by one is doable, but suboptimal.
    I'm not sure if I need a script, some other tool, or if there is some easy way I am missing. Anyone else have to do this and can give me a pointer or two?
    Thanks,
    Marc

    This isn't a full solution, but does reduce the workload.
    Using Acrobat Pro (possibly Standard, probably not Reader),
    use the Document > Split Document feature set to:
    (*) Number of Pages [ 1 ]
    and:
    Output Options:
    [*] Use Label [ Page ]
    The file names won't be your image IDs, however.
    This gives you the original PDF as single file per page, which dramatically enhances options for batch processing with other apps.
    For example, you could use PhotoShop to batch convert those .pdf's to .png's, with full control over res. Illustrtator can also do this (File > Export), with res control.
    You could actually re-import those page images back into the FM doc, using Graphic Frames (clipping paths) to hide all page content except the desired images.

  • So simple, yet so annoying: problem resizing anchored frame with grab bars

    Asked a question yesterday on how to 'snug' an anchored frame to an image. Got the answer and it works great (Esc-m-p)
    Now... the reason I needed to do this is that when I try to resize a frame with the grab bars, it 'jerks' as I move vertically or horizontally.
    What that means is...
    With borders on, the frame border is a dotted line.
    If I grab the left side of a frame and move my mouse to the right to make the frame smaller, the border doesn't move smoothly -- it jumps a distance of about 1.5 of those dotted lines. Thus I can't always make the frame fit nicely.
    Talked to another Frame user and she said that her's drags smoothly.
    So... am I missing a setting somewhere? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    ##&*!
    I was working over a VPN when I first experienced the problem... everything was slower than molasses. Set Snap off, did some other work, Frame crashed.
    Setting didn't persist, but everything had taken so long I forgot to check it.
    Gah. Yes, Snap off works wonders when it's *actually* off.

  • TCS 3.0: Anchored Frames contain callouts with german special characters Conversion to RH nok

    Hi all,
    I have Frame documents, which contain anchored frames with callouts. The callouts are created with Frame and contain german special characters like ä,ö,ü. These characters are not converted correctly.

  • Anchors above anchored frames

    Hi all,
    I'm developing some templates for computer software manuals. I need a nice neat generic method for adding images and their titles. I need the figure titles to be positioned in the side heading, aligned with the top of the figure beside it.
    For tables I use a TableTitle side heading paragraph format that has a Table paragraph format after it with a negative space after value. The table format has a negative space before value, so when inserted it lines up nicely with the top of the table title.
    I would like to do something similar for figures, but I can't seem to find a method of positioning the anchored frame that works. 'Below current line' would be ideal, if that didn't leave me with the line holding the anchor above it, which the side heading is then aligned with instead. Is there a way to apply a paragraph format to the anchored frame that would allow me to enter a negative space before value like i do with the table? Or is there some other way to align the anchored frame with the top of the title beside it?
    Thanks very much to anyone who can help,
    Kat

    Kat,
    I hope I understand your problem correctly.
    The paragraph containing the figure title is positioned in the side head with alignment set to Top Edge. Then that paragraph is followed by another paragraph, which of course is in the main text column, empty, and aligned at the top with the side head.
    With the insertion point in the second paragraph, import the image file. This puts the image below the line. Select the image, not the anchored frame, and scale it if necessary. If not created at the correct size, you probably want to scale it down to fit the width of the text column. Now press the key sequence Esc, m, p (note m and p are lowercase). The anchored frame shrinks to fit tightly around the image and changes it position to At Insertion Point. If you turn on Text Symbols, you will see the end-of-paragraph symbol at the lower right edge of the image, and the top of the anchored frame will align with the TOP of the side head text.
    You also have to be sure the line spacing of the paragraph holding the image is NOT fixed or Frame will move the image up.
    Hope this is what you need,
    Van

  • Anchored Frame in DITA file

    I inserted an <image> element in a DITA file. In the dialog box, I selected a screen shot (JPG). FM inserted an anchored frame with the graphic in it. The anchored frame was cropped, so I did Special>Anchored Frame and cleared Cropped. Worked fine, so I saved and closed.<br /><br />I opened the file and the anchored frame is cropped again. Re-did above steps, saved and closed, reopened, anchored frame is cropped again.

    Hi Michael...
    In the read/write rules file, add the following rule to the image element ..
    fm property cropped value is "0";
    If you make this change, be sure to update the rules files in both the Topic and Book applications.
    This and other FrameMaker/DITA tips are available at ..

  • Deleting anchored frames

    Hello all,
    What happens with a linked list of objects when I use the Delete method on one of these objects ? The FrameMaker Scripting Guide does not say much about this, nor does the FDK reference guide. I have tried the following but it does not work as I expected:
    doc = app.ActiveDoc;
    theGraph = doc.FirstGraphicInDoc;
    n = 0;
    while ( theGraph.ObjectValid() ) {
              tobedeleted = false;
              if ( theGraph.constructor.name == "AFrame" ) {
        theObject = theGraph.FirstGraphicInFrame;
        if ( theObject.ObjectValid() )
          if ( theObject.constructor.name == "TextFrame" )
            tobedeleted = true;
        if ( tobedeleted ) {
          nextGraph = theGraph.NextGraphicInDoc;
          theGraph.Delete();
          n++
          theGraph = nextGraph;
        } else
            theGraph = theGraph.NextGraphicInDoc;
    alert ( n );
    The document has 18 of the specified anchored frames (with embedded text frames), but the above code only deletes 5. If I just walk through the list and skip deleting the objects, the count goes up to 18, as expected. So there must be some crazy side effect of deleting an object from a linked list. But what exactly ?
    How can I walk through a linked list and delete some objects from them without disrupting the linked list ?
    Jang

    Hi Rick,
    The method you describe is what I tried to use in ExtendScript, as shown in my first posting, but apparently deleting an object after first saving its forward pointer still invalidates the forward pointer in some mysterious way. My expectation is that ExtendScript is fiddling with pointers to structures in the background, i.e. not copying objects but only the pointers to those objects.
    I found something like this when I tried to set a TextRange to contain a frame anchor.
    myrange = new Textrange;
    myrange.beg = myrange.end = anchor;
    myrange.beg.offset = 0;
    myrange.end.offset = 1;
    Believe it or not, but after these lines, both offsets are 1. So I tried to unlink the beg and end textlocs in my textrange object:
    myrange = new Textrange;
    myrange.beg = anchor;
    myrange.end = anchor;
    myrange.beg.offset = 0;
    myrange.end.offset = 1;
    Still the same result. The code that does what I expected looks like this:
    myrange = new Textrange;
    myrange.beg.obj = anchor.obj;
    myrange.end.obj = anchor.obj;
    myrange.beg.offset = 0;
    myrange.end.offset = 1;
    Isn't this total madness ? But it does tell me that some pointer juggling is going on behind the scenes. I will have another go at the linked list member deletion code and post a solution if I can find one.
    Ciao

  • Indesign Bug with Auto-Size and fitting in Anchored frames

    Hi,
    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Create a text frame with 2 Anchored text frames with the same width.
    2. Make the anchored frames Auto-Size --> Vertical only
    3. insert text to the first frame, when type enter to the next line the frame become higher but the next frame remain in the same position. just after typing the first character in the second line the next frame adjust in the right position.
    4. The same happen when pasting text that make the frame bigger.
    5. The same happen without Auto-Size when fit frame to content.
    Does anyone knows about it?
    Any idea how to bypass?
    Thanks

  • Irregularity with anchor behaviour - inserting anchors in anchored frames

    I am experiencing irregular behaviours with anchors and I'm not sure if it's a glitch or something I am overlooking. Sometimes it works, sometimes it dosen't, and I can't tell what is causing the difference.
    What I want is an anchored text fram to a main body text - which is an imag caption - and from this text frame I create a new anchored image frame, in which I put the image I am referring to in the caption. Sometimes this process works smoothly, while other times, when I go to insert the anchor in the anchored text frame it re-routes me back to the main body text from where I came. I have tried different insertion points within the anchored text frame, but nothing seems to solve the problem in this scenario....
    any ideas?

  • Shrink image frames with page size?

    Is it possible to gave the image frames I have laid out in-line thorughout a book to auto shrink proportionately with a page dimension change?

    Have a look in the layout adjustments policies.
    Also how did you set up the used object styles for the image's frames.

  • Hel with modifying cs5/6 script...create anchored frames from text

    hello
    I have one great time saver script for cs5 for create anchored frames from text tagged with/or charachter style/paragraph style. This work in cs6 but have some "bugs" for me. Script need to be compatible with InDesign CS6.
    1. script in original (look bellow) create text frame which is fitted to lenght of the text. I make change and change 466 line:
    AnchoredTextFrame.fit(FitOptions.FRAME_TO_CONTENT);
    now frame is wide as I write in check box, good. But frame not resize to lenght of the text so I add after above lines 466-470:
        var FO = FitOptions.FRAME_TO_CONTENT,
        tfs = ([]).concat.apply([], app.activeDocument.stories.everyItem().textContainers),
        t, i = tfs.length;
    while( i-- ) (t=tfs[i]).overflows && ( t.locked || t.fit(FO) );
    now all is ok but is here better way to make this to work? Simply, i want to spec text frame width in dialog box, frame will resize only verticaly in direction to amount text in frame. I dont want any overset text.
    2. One "bug". For some reason script alter paragraph style of other text which is not subject to be cutted in anchored frame.
    How to resolve this?

    Скрипт предназначен для создания привязанных фреймов из текста, отформатированного
    каким-либо абзацным или символьным стилем. Эти стили задаются пользователем в диалоговом
    окне скрита. Там же необходимо задать объектный стиль для привязанного фрейма, в котором
    пользователь должен заранее задать оформление и параметры привязки. Далее необходимо
    указать ширину привязанного фрейма, а его высота будет рассчитана автоматически исходя из
    объема текста. При вводе дробных значений ширины привязанного фрейма в качестве
    разделителя целой и дробной части следует использовать не запятую, а точку, следуя западным

    Hi Cari,
    I did create a new user account (admin level) and InDesign works like a charm.
    When I went back to the other account, plug-ins gone, I deleted the prefs and caches, restarted and still everything is crashing as before.
    At least I am working on one account and I will contiue to troubleshoot on the other account. And at some point either the new account will crash or the old account will work and I will go from there.
    Thanks for the info about Mac remembering info. Always trying to be helpful these Macs.
    And thanks for getting at least into a workable space!!! I am supremely grateful!

  • Fm9p237, probs with Save As PDF, turns *some* anchored frames blue

    I am using Save As PDF because have to create CMYK PDF. I know how to do that. The issue now is that FrameMaker is sticking blue boxes around only *some* of the graphics.
    They are all EPS graphics imported by reference into anchored frames. These boxes do not appear in the FM file.
    The boxes clearly are the anchored frame bounding boxes.
    Any ideas? Any switch I should set? Any ritual incantations that will appease the FM Postscript generator?
    Thanks for your help, Becky

    Hi Bernd  and Art,
    Yes, I am using spot colors. I did some more testing and here is what I found:
    Use Save As PDF in FM-->all colors except for spots are correctly converted to CMYK. Bitmap screenshots are also converted to CMYK. If I convert the  spot colors to CMYK SWOP  in Acrobat 9, using its preflight tool, the spots are all converted to the same CMYK values that they were assigned in Frame. BUT there are  random  blue boxes in the doc, clearly where FM for some reason colored the bounding box of an anchored frame or a table cell.
    Print to Adobe Printer instance in FM with the Press Quality job options-->All colors come out CMYK, including spot colors and bitmapped
    and there are no random blue boxes BUT the CMYK conversions of the spot colors are wrong.
    My choice: Save As PDF. I will just remove the blue boxes with Acrobat.
    I considered PitStop Pro and downloaded the trial copy,  but its userdoc is terrible and I can't figure out how to batch-convert the incorrect CMYK colors t. Can't find any good help on line either. Too much bother.
    Sigh. Adobe, are you listening? It's ridiculous that the company that produces Photoshop can't make CMYK color conversion work in Frame.
    TThank you, Bernd and Art. I appreciate your feedback very much.

  • Repeating frame with anchor

    Hi all,
    I have a repeating frame in a report and it is anchored to a text field object (variable height). This repeating frame is Across/Down mode, but its behavior is like a Down mode repeating frame. Could anyone help me?
    Att.
    Diogo Domanski de Souza
    PS: I've already verified the width of the repeating frame and it fits twice per row.

    For easy to illustrate, let's call the variable height text field F_1, and repeating frame R_1. When you anchor from R_1 to F_1, the position of the anchor is very important and it affects the location and formatted size of R_1.
    For example, if the anchor starts on the left-top corner of R_1 and ends on the left-bottom corner of F_1, that means formatted R_1 and F_1 will anchor together with 0% on the left of F_1 and 0% on the left of R_1 from the original position. In this case, you should see two columns per row.
    If the anchor is in the top-middle of R_1 and bottom-middle of F_1, that means formatted R_1 (which has different width than you see on the layout model because it could expand across) and F_1 will anchor together from middle of R_1 (50%) to middle of F_1 (50%). Because of the anchor condition, you should notice even the left position of formatted R_1 would be different than on the layout model if R_1 still can contain more than one column.
    In summary, the anchor is defined based on the percentage of formatted object. Once you understand that, you can adjust the position of the anchor to achieve what you want.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    -Shaun

  • Drag and drop images into anchored frames -- can this be done with the images imported by reference?

    My company bought a product from another company and the only manuals files that came with it were in pdf format. I am currently grabbing text out in Acrobat, then pasting and reformatting it in FrameMaker. Boring and tedious. . . .
    Eventually I get to the point of importing the illustrations. There are *hundreds* of them. As a rule, we import the files by reference, to keep the chapter size smaller and to be able to double click the image to open it for modification.
    However, I can drag an image file from the folder window and drop it into an anchored frame. Oooh, this is fast--way faster than all the mousework that goes into clicking file>import>file>[choosing the file then hitting the import button].
    But, dang it, that copies the image into the FrameMaker file. No double-click opening. Giant fm. file size. Mad boss, shaking an SOP standards sheet in my face.
    So, my question: Is there a way to import an image *by reference* by dragging and dropping them into an anchored frame?
    Thanks, folks.
    Moore. Matt Moore.

    I tried the RTF route and, in addition to getting the body text I wanted, got paragraph after paragraph of the page numbers, the illustration text, the header and footer verbiage, all randomly placed between body text paragraphs.
    I did the same file twice, once by saving as RTF and deleting unwanted stuff, then repairing body paragraphs (each line of which is a seperate paragraph in the RTF file) and also by sweeping only the necessary text, then copying and pasting it page by page. The second method was a bit faster and less frustrating. Not to say that it isn't slow and frustrating in itself, but just a bit less. Less errors, too, with the second method.
    Bummer about importing by reference. I don't suppose there's a way to set up recorded actions with hotkeys, is there? Like in Illustrator?
    Thanks, Art.

  • Frame in frame with graphics problem-or maybe not

    Hi from Croatia.
    Well I have and extremely demanding costumer that wants to control every single bit of the project.
    The problem is as follows.
    I have a book that every once in a wile has annotation which above and bellow has a graphic line (not simple line but complex graphic imported from illustrator.)
    I tried to anchor one object above and another bellow this text which lets say stands in the middle of text frame and for me everything works ok.
    But this demanding customer wants that those annotations are in separate frame so that he can have full control over them(?).
    So I made frame in frame-put wrapping around this smaller frame.
    The problem is- is it possible to put those graphics in this smaller frame, create text object and add it to library so that i can use it multiple times. I have more than hundred of those annotations.
    And is it possible when i cut the text from this main frame to paste it in this smaller one and that this small frame automatically fills with text so that frame expands vertically according with amount of text. I am not placing text but pasting. I hope you have understood but in every case here is an example.
    Main text frame(text fills full width of page)
    sadbhjasdsdab
    sagsafgsfgafsd
    agsfgfasg
    (Now smaller frame with graphic fills full width of main frame)
    ewfewtf
    agasg
    sdagasdga
    (text fom main frame continues)
    fasdfs
    dsgasgasg
    dfgdfsg
    dfsgsd
    Uf this was exhausting even for me.
    THX for any help.

    I tried to use 3 row table with header and footer, but the problem is that indesign does not allow tables to break when the part of table goes to another page.
    And THX for in for on those plugins.
