Is it possible to distribute builds to employees/clients of a company without a verisign certificate?
What is the best (and cheapest) way to do it?

For mobile apps you don't use a Verisign key - you use the one supplied to you by Google, Apple, and/or RIM.
For Android apps: just link to the .bar file on a protected part of your website.
For PlayBook apps: If your app is intended for a limited number of users, you can either side-load the app onto their tablet from a PC/Mac, use the sandbox option to to allow them access to unpublished apps in App World, or you can publish it in App World and control who can use it via a licensing server.
Also, RIM is working on a "corporate" App World, where an enterprise can simply add their own private apps for internal use and control it via BES policies. They talked about it at DevCon in november. Not sure about a release date.
For IOS: don't know, probably something to do with the entrerprise distribution options in App Store.

So we heard from Mr. Bair that we will be getting the ports this week. I am curious about the no VM part. Does that mean we have to code it in our IDE, then port it to android and test it that way, or make our own VM? :P
I want to start making apps :).

As they have said the source for Prism/Glass is out there(somewhere) but someone needs to port it. I'm only going by what I've been told, I'll try to find the link, I believe it's in fxExperience.com

Tobi, I'm curious how you did the port with openJFX. Was there anything special needed? Also OpenJFX is tied with the OpeNJDK builds right?
Also I don't know how hard it is for Apple to allow it, but I have heard there are FX apps in the APPLE STORE currently. That is most likely for Mac OS, and not IOS, but still.... A big step forward for Java who wasn't on Apple previously.
Also the Java Dev team said that they have created code for both Android/IOS in the labs, and that was shown at the 2011 JavaOne I believe. So it's been available for quite some time over at Oracle, but when we get a Port IDK!!!
I also heard there is a team of EX-Sun employees making a Java Port to Mobile, which I haven't heard anything about recently, nor do I remember the project name >(

Ipad2 stay on iOS 7, cosmetic question:
Like many tried updating my ipad2 to ios8. Not so good.
Rolled back to IOS 7.1.2 and happy camper again (Apple are still signing it).
Just a cosmetic. It seems that the iPad 2 will need to stay on IOS7, which is fine with me, but can we remove the red
update flag in order to not see that and peacefully stay in IOS7 land like on the iphone4 from the same era for a bit more.

The only way I know to rid the device of the update badge on the Settings app is to restore the device as new (not from a backup), then re-add all of your content and settings back to the device manually. But it's NOT permanent either as the next over-the-air update will re-trigger the update flag and the badge icon. To prevent the device from looking for updates, there's a way to block Apple's update server but you probably wouldn't want to go through this procedure. As James Ward4 said, there is no setting on the device to control the behavior of the update badge.
Even though you didn't ask, I thought I'd bring it up anyways as it's pertinent info for those wishing to stay on an older iOS version than what the device qualifies for...
If at some point you need to restore your iPad, do NOT do it through iTunes as it will update the iPad in the restore process. This is the nature of restoring through iTunes; the device will be updated to the most recent iOS version that your device qualifies for.
Instead, do the restore on the iPad itself (remember to disable Find My iPhone/iPad) which will retain the iOS version that is currently installed on the device. This is done under Settings/Reset/Erase All Content and Settings.

Installation: HPLIP, and remote printing from ANDROID, & iOS to a static networked HP printer

I recently installed an HP LaserJet Professional m1212nf MFP Printer on my network and gave it a static IP address. On my main computer (also statically networked - Ubuntu 12.04) I installed the hplip services and can successfully print to it. On the same computer I have a Dymo Labelwriter and an HP ColorLaserJet 1215 connected by USB.
I can print from my iPhone and tablet running Android's ICS to the labelmaker and the color laserjet using Airprint services, but I can't print to the m1212nf with Airprint. If I print via the CUPS driver using Airprint I get a successsful completion of the printout, but the printer doesn't print. Now, since the printer m1212nf is NOT connected to the CUPS print server by USB, that makes sense unless I can be told how to set up CUPS to print to the device on the network.

I think, from what I've read so far, that Icould use eprint if there was a way to put a windows driver (Yes, begrudgingly I have access to a Windows laptop that I can put on my network) on the m1212nf as well as the hplip driver that currently lets it communicate with my primary computer.
I would prefer an Airprint solution as Airprint works with the mobile devices to the other two printers.

OK, Egg on my face!
Turns out iOS worked perfectly fine, but the Android app I had on my tablet didn't. Upon further pursuit of the Android issue, I found only one free app that did work (at least for text) in the play store, but that one was really a "trial" version as the printout was watermarked, but one could remove the watermark for two separate prices, one for text and another for photos.
But, by replying with a solution to this problem myself, I consider it {SOLVED]. Futhermore it leaves no doubt that Airprint and the "airprint-generate" script do work for versions of Ubuntu on the Ubuntu side.

JavaFX mobile (Android/iOS) update?

Hi all,
as I am quite desperately eager to start JavaFX mobile development,
I would like to ask, if somebody has any update on recent status and progress, if any.
I have found quite a lot of news titles like 'JavaFX for iOS/Android soon!' at the beginning of the year, but not any other update since.
According to Javaone 2013 Session Updates
there should have been some very interesting presentations at JavaOne 2013 last week:

I know the politics of getting JavaFX on iOS, Android, and WinRT are complicated, but I'm still hoping Oracle changes their mind. The idea of Microsoft, Google, and Apple controlling the mobile platforms top to bottom doesn't strike me as something that's going to be good for anyone (else). I'm rather amazed at the faith everyone is putting the idea that Microsoft, Google, and Apple won't leverage IE, Chrome, and Safari to give their SaaS initiatives the advantage.
I'd rather hedge my bets with the JVM and Linux than trust 3 companies who have been making obvious moves to close up and control the computing industry. Honestly, look at the setup. They all have hardware branches now and they already control the OSs, the native runtimes, the browsers, and the primary distribution channels for their respective platforms. Oracle should be worried about getting anything on those platforms 5 years from now.
IMO, they should be pushing ADF and JavaFX on mobile, not trying to choose one or the other.

In my ISE deployment, once the guest succcesful authenticated will be assign guest VLAN for internet access.
we are using guest portal to do the vlan override once user authenticated.
Window 7 Internet explorer (Active X), Chrome (Java Aplet) is working fine.
but Android,Apple IOS devices unable to release the DHCP and get new DHCP.
because from ISE and WLC we can see the Vlan have change, how mobile devices initiate dhcp release for Guest Portal

I don't have such documentation nor I could find any on Cisco's site. With that being said, it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. I just know that Active X is windows specific framework and Java is not supported on either iOS nor Android:

The good news is that Cisco appears to be steering away from Java so it is possible that in the future this will be supported.

Adobe AIR Needed on Android / iOS to Run Adobe Flex Apps

Hi all,
I want to confirm if the user has to install Adobe AIR before launching Adobe Flex apps on Android and iOS Devices. Is there any way that we could embedd Adobe AIR setup in the app file so that the user dont have to hastle in installing Adobe AIR.

It gives you only three options:
Signed packages for each target platform.
Signed AIR package for installation on desktop.
Intermediate AIRI package that must be signed later.
For mobile apps, we need to select the first option to get the .apk and .ipa file as the second option would generate .air file. None of the options offer to package AIR runtime. Only the first option gives you the option on NEXT window to include the download link of AIR Runtime.
If i am wrong, kindly point me to that specific checkbox.
OR do i have to put Runtime.apk in the assets folder of my source code so that it gets packaged?

Exchange 2013 Autodiscover Android IOS not working

I configured exchange 2013 in my organization. Android, thunderbird and IOS not working with autodiscover.
Windows Phone example Lumia worked with autodiscover correctly.
All needed DNS entry and certificate are uploaded to Exchange.
Test on https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com/ ended successfuly.
Can Android and IOS supported autodiscover.

Restricted Distribution Question

I understand you need an enterprise account for private distribution, but what about restricted?? Even in the link above I can't get a clear picture.
For example, can we get a Pro account, and create a publicly available multi-folio app... but then require a username and password to access additional folios. Therefore, we control who can download the folios within the app (ie: not have them publicly available per se)...?
We have a client that we've created a number of digital sales brochures for, but they are only for use by their sales force. Currently we're using the Adobe Viewer to distribute them "privately" to the sales force, but this has been troublesome and the user group is expanding too much globally. So, we need a method to distribute the sales brochures, but not have them available to the public. Enterprise level account is probably out of the question due to cost... so I'm hoping "restricted" distribution using the Pro account is possible!
If this won't work, any other suggestions would be more than welcome!

Thanks for the info everyone. I talked briefly with Adobe today and I agree the Enterprise account seems to be required for what we'd like to do, but at $50k+ per year, its out of my small media company's price range! They are supposed to talk to me about their agency solutions sometime soon... waiting for that Adobe person to call me.
I'm curious about what Richard brought up, the B2B store... does anyone know if its possible to publish (using a DPS Pro account) to the B2B app store instead of the "public" iTunes store??

It was "easy" to set up (quotes: as easy as something complicate can be).
Consumables, or One-time-purchases worked out of the box, but restore, subscriptions and auto subscriptions (like newspapers) had bugs like hell and were unusable.

AIR for iOS Data Protection question again

We are looking into Protecting Data Using On-Disk Encryption for our AIR for iOS iPad apps. An article on the adobe site (Protecting content on an iOS device with DPS | Adobe Developer Connection) mentioned this can be achieved by generating Data Protection enabled AppID/provisioning profile to pacakage in the app.
After we packaged and published the app using the appropriately configured provisioning profile (Complete protection), we run an analysis on the iPad files. It's reporting that the files are using an encryption class, but the wrong one.
We run into two kinds of scenarios -
1. For App ID that "complete" data protection service is specified, the class utilized should be NSFileProtectionComplete. Instead, the class being utilized in the files is NSFileProtectionCompleteUntilUserAuthentication
2. for App ID without any data protection service selected, the files saved in the app documentDirectory is utilizing "NSFileProtectionCompleteUntilUserAuthentication".
We cannot find why is it using the wrong class when specified with another class, and why are other apps utilizing the class when they weren't designed to any data protection? Could something in Adobe AIR be overriding it or setting a default to use "NSFileProtectionCompleteUnitlUserAuthentication"?
Any feedback is greatly appreciated. We cannot find much information on this issue but data encryption has become more and more critical now. Thank you very much.
