ANM 5.2 Virtual Appliance Internal filesystems problem

Good day,
We have an ANM Virtual Appliance, version 5.2, were we login and can go no further. This was working for fine for approximately two and half weeks. We created a backup and re-loaded the system via CLI with the same result. We logged in again via SSH and we have noted the following:
cscoanmsa/admin# sh disk
temp. space 4% used (141244 of 4951688)
disk: 7% used (353916 of 5935604)

Is there any way to access and clean out the /var directory from the CLI. is this achieved simply via the "delete" command with the full path ?
I believe this may be the issue, and we need to resolve this before we can move forward.
Any assistance or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
Paul.

We've seen this on ANM 5.2.1 as well. In our case it was that /var/log/messages was taking up nearly 85GB on the var volume. ANM, at least in 5.2.1, doesn't seem to rotate this log file.
The way we fixed it was to mount the var volume using a Linux live CD like Knoppix and clear our /var/log/messages. Very unsupported, but gets you out of a hole:
Boot the ANM machine with Knoppix (KNOPPIX_V7.2.0DVD-2013-06-16-EN.iso)
As root run:
pvs (to work out LVM physical volumes and volume groups)
PV        VG
/dev/sda2 smosvg
vgchange -ay smosvg (to activate the volume group)
lvscan (to work out what logical volumes are available)
ACTIVE '/dev/smosvg/varvol'
mount /dev/mapper/smosvg-varvol /mnt
echo > /mnt/log/messages
umount /mnt
reboot

  • Question about ANM Virtual Appliance ESX support

    Hello,
    I have a question:
I need to install ANM 5.2 on a virtual appliance (using the .ova file).
What ESX and vSphere versions does ANM 5.2 support?
I don't see any information regarding this on the release notes or installation guide.
    Thanks.

Looks like the only requirement is Vcenter and Vsphere 4 client.  So version 4.0 and up is supported.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/app_ntwk_services/data_center_app_services/application_networking_manager/5.1/device_support/table/sdt.html
ANM 5.2 and 5.1 includes a plug-in that allows you to integrate ANM into  a VMware virtual data center environment. VMware is a third-party  product for creating and managing virtual data centers. Using VMware  vSphere Client, you can access ANM functionality and manage the ACE real  servers that provide load-balancing services for the virtual machines  in your virtual data center.
To use the ANM 5.2/5.1 plug-in, you must use VMware vCenter Server and  VMware vSphere Client 4.
For more information about using ANM in a VMware virtual data center  environment, see the User Guide for the Cisco  Application Networking Manager 5.2/5.1.

  • ANM Virtual Appliance - SCP, TFTP or SFTP Support

    Good day all,
I would just like to know if, as part of the back-up configuration supported on ANM 5.2, to back-up the ACE configurations, licenses, etc., and then have them copied to another system via SCP, SFTP or TFTP, is this supported to have these copied to ANM.
So my question is, does ANM Virtual Appliance have support/functionality for any of these services (TFTP, SFTP or SCP), or would this need to be a separate system? I do not think ANM supports this, but would just like confirmation one way or the other if possible please.
    Thank you in advance.
    Paul.

    Hi Paul,
If I understood you correctly, you want to copy the ACE backups to the ANM to store them there. That, I'm afraid, is not supported. You need to define an external server to store them.

  • MSE Virtual appliance installation problem

Hi, I'm currently going through an MSE virtual appliance installation and I've run through the setup wizard and I log on as root.
From root when I attempt to start the MSE service (using either service msed start or /etc/init.d/msed start) I get the following
    "Starting MSE Platform
MSE installation is either in progress or terminated in the middle. Please wait for the installation to complete or reinstall. MSED start failed."
I've stopped the service and tried to restart and get the same thing.
I've rerun the initial setup and rebooted. I've looked at the setup.log in /opt/mse/setup/ and it says configuration successful. Although it then says /opt/mse/framework/bin/local_watchdog: line 17: ciscoSSLEnvironment.sh: No such file or directory.
I'm guessing this is why it's not working. Any ideas how to resolve it? Or do I just blat the VM and start again?

    Hi,
can you describe what you are doing, please.
I think we need some more Information:

  • Can ISE 1.2 Virtual Appliance assign VPN address pool like ACS does?

    Dear friends,
I have observed that Cisco ISE Virtual Appliance (VMware) can act as a RADIUS server in the same manner as ACS does, but I cannot find the way of assigning an IP address to a remote VPN client (only assigning a VLAN).
At this point I don't know if it is strictly necessary to have the IP address assignment for the remote VPN clients done in the external firewall (i. e. Cisco ASA) in this case.
Is there any way of defining an IP address pool in the ISE itself for VPN clients authenticated against that ISE?
If the answer is not, which ones could be the options for that assignment other than the ASA pool assignment? Could it be possible defining the corresponding address pool in an internal DHCP server that could provide the IP address to the VPN client after successful authentication through ISE?
Any help would be really appreciated to clarifying these questions.
    Thank you and best regards.

Please find the link below for the may help you to get the answer related to comparision and even for deployment.

  • LMS 4.2.2 virtual appliance fresh install : DCR Server Error

    Hello,
I have installed a new version of LMS 4.2 on virtual appliance (VMware 4.1) and I have an issue.
When I go the "Device Administration --> Manage Device State" I have the following error :
    Server Error
    Error
Error in communicating with DCR Server. For more details click here.
DCR Server may be down. Please start the DCR Server and then refresh the page.
Following the details link I have : (I did all the check written below).
    DCR Server Error
The communication error may be due to the following reasons:
The DNS resolution does not match with server assigned IP Address. Workaround: DNS resolvable IP Address should be same as server IP Address. DHCP is enabled in the server. Workaround: DHCP should be disabled in the server. The server’s original IP Address may have changed. Workaround: Restart Cisco Prime Daemon Manager. CTM registry corruption has occurred due to rebooting the server without stopping the Cisco Prime  Daemon Manager. Workaround: Delete the ctmregistry and ctmregistry.backup file in  NMSROOT/MDC/tomcat/webapps/cwhp/WEB-INF/LIB and then restart the Cisco Prime Daemon  Manager. DCR Server and related process might be down. Workaround: Check the processes to make sure DCR Server is running, and restart it if not. The hostname change is not done by the hostnamechange.pl in LMS. Workaround: Hostname change should be done using NMSROOT/bin/hostnamechange.pl in LMS. LMS self signed certificate would have been expired. Workaround: Regenerate the certificate and restart the daemon manager.
I try to reinstall LMS 4.2 with or without patches 4.2.1 and 4.2.2 I always have the same problem. The DCR server process is running.
Here the result of the show application status LMS in SSH :

    Hi Afroz!
    Thanks for the quick reply!
    1) I checked files - and indeed, the third link of the file was empty.
I restored contents of the same test server (as an attachment - original files) - now everything is working fine. Many thanks for your advice!
Because of what could this happen?
Current settings are as follows (i did not change them):
    [lms42/root-ade etc]# ls -la /opt/CSCOpx/MDC/tomcat/shared/lib/ctm_config.txt
    -rw-r--r-- 1 casuser casusers 1037 Jul 22 13:54 /opt/CSCOpx/MDC/tomcat/shared/lib/ctm_config.txt
    [lms42/root-ade etc]# ls -la /opt/CSCOpx/MDC/tomcat/webapps/cwhp/WEB-INF/lib/ctm_config.txt
    -rw-r--r-- 1 casuser casusers 1084 Jul 22 13:54 /opt/CSCOpx/MDC/tomcat/webapps/cwhp/WEB-INF/lib/ctm_config.txt
    [lms42/root-ade etc]# ls -la /opt/CSCOpx/MDC/tomcat/lib/ctm_config.txt
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 casuser casusers 1104 Aug 20 12:07 /opt/CSCOpx/MDC/tomcat/lib/ctm_config.txt
    2) It was also noted that if address on the link "Inventory>Device Administration>Discovery>Schedule", then an error message appears:
    Error
Error in getting the Discovery configuration information, please configure Standard / Custom Discovery and start the schedule.
    - no any records for Discovery Schedule and not accessible button Add (for add new Discovery Jobs).
    This is related errors?

  • Exchange 2010 - Virtual Directory Internal & External URL's with Wildcard Cert

    Hi Guys
I am trying to determine if my Exchange 2010 server Virtual Directory URL's are setup according to best practice. I'm sure anyone with good Exchange experience will instantly be able to tell me if my Virtual Directory DNS is correct or could cause issues.
    Scenario:
Hosted Exchange 2010 SP1. Multiple client mail domains hosted
    2x CA, 2x HT, 2x MB, 2x DC
Wildcard *.example.co.za certificate being used on CA servers
    AD domain is he.example.za.net
CA Server naming example: ca1.he.example.za.net, ca2.he.example.za.net
he.example.net DNS is done by DC servers
External name used by clients: outlook.example.co.za (For Outlook setup and OWA access)
outlook.example.co.za has two A records pointing to the CA IP's
    PROBLEM/CONCERN:
We have a random OWA log out issue that we believe might be due to ambiguous DNS names being used.
If I change the Virtual Directories External URL to be the FQDN of the server, we get a Certificate Error in clients (due to the .co.za Wildcard). The external URL clients use
    must be on .co.za.
So are the Virtual Directory URL's causing the CA servers to loose track of who is authenticated in where (leading to OWA disconnection)? Is it fine to load balance the CA servers with the DNS the way we are doing currently? Any other issues you see?
    Current Virtual Directory settings:
Note that they are identical on CA1 and CA2

REALLY APPRECIATE SOME EXPERT ADVISE. Thanks.

    Hi Kane,
Why did not you use cas array to load balance client connectivity?
    If you create a CAS array, you can assign an virtual IP (VIP) for the CAS array FQDN (e.g CASarray.example.za.net), and then point all the Virtual Directories internal URL to CAS array fqdn;
For external, you can point outlook.example.co.za to VIP which had been assigned to CAS array.
I recommend you refer to the following article to understand CAS array:

    Hi!
Don't know the reason for your crash, but I recommend you try a more recent version of JRockit as the first step. Download here:

1.4.2_12 R27.1 is a good option. If you wait a week or so, 1.4.2_13 R27.2 will be out which is even better :-)

  • Error when installing virtual appliance for r12.2.4

    Hello
I have downloaded Oracle Virtual Appliance for Oracle  E-Business r12.2.4 in a following step by step manner but I am running into an error.  As per the readme, I have gone through the Note:1928303.1 but it does not address the issue.
That said, is there any comprehensive, step by step document that outlines installation and implementation of Oracle Virtual Appliance for r12.2.4?
    Below are steps I ran.
Step 1:  Downloaded and Installed Oracle Virtual Box version 4.3.22.
Step 2:  I want to install Oracle EBS r12.2.4 single node installation on My Windows 8.1 64 bit laptop with 1 TB of HDD and 8GB RAM.
Step 3:  Downloaded following files for single node vision appliance.
There are two zip files for each part, so I downloaded total 16 zip files.
    V52470-01 Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.4 Single Node Vision Install X86 (64 bit) (Part 1 of 8) Linux x86-64
    V52471-01 Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.4 Single Node Vision Install X86 (64 bit) (Part 2 of 8) Linux x86-64
    V52472-01 Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.4 Single Node Vision Install X86 (64 bit) (Part 3 of 8) Linux x86-64
    V52473-01 Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.4 Single Node Vision Install X86 (64 bit) (Part 4 of 8) Linux x86-64
    V52474-01 Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.4 Single Node Vision Install X86 (64 bit) (Part 5 of 8) Linux x86-64
    V52475-01 Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.4 Single Node Vision Install X86 (64 bit) (Part 6 of 8) Linux x86-64
    V52476-01 Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.4 Single Node Vision Install X86 (64 bit) (Part 7 of 8) Linux x86-64
    V52477-01 Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.4 Single Node Vision Install X86 (64 bit) (Part 8 of 8) Linux x86-64
    Step 4:  Unzipped these files
Step 5:  After unzip, unzipped filename looked like following.  So I removed the last digit in the extension so that Oracle virtual box can recognize .ova extension.
    Unzipped file name:
    Oracle-E-Business-Suite-12.2.4_VISION_INSTALL.ova.01
    renamed to
    01_Oracle-E-Business-Suite-12.2.4_VISION_INSTALL.ova
Step 6. In Oracle virtual box, attempted to import these ova files using "Import Appliance".   This is when I am getting following error.
Oracle VM Virtual Appliances for Oracle E-Business Suite (Linux)
Failed to import appliance C:\ova\EBS\INSTALLATION OPTIONS\Option 1 Single Node ALL\0_Oracle-E-Business-Suite-12.2.4_VISION_INSTALL.ova.
Could not create the imported medium 'C:\Users\ova\VirtualBox VMs\Oracle-E-Business-Suite-12.2.4_VISION_INSTALL\Oracle-E-Business-Suite-12.2.4_VISION_INSTALL-disk1.vmdk'.
VMDK: Compressed image is corrupted 'C:\Users\ova\Oracle-E-Business-Suite-12.2.4_VISION_INSTALL-disk1.vmdk' (VERR_ZIP_CORRUPTED).
    Result Code:  (0x80BB0004)
    Component: Appliance
    Interface: IAppliance {3059cf9e-25c7-4f0b-9fa5-3c42e441670b}
This is happening with each and every file in above list.
Please advise what am I missing?  And if there is a comprehensive document somewhere that outlines details about implementation.  The above mentioned metalink note is not enough.

You need to merge all of the downloaded files first, before importing into Virtualbox. Google for my blog for detailed steps.

    Hi,
There is a solved thread on this page about this error. The solution is to replace the battery because its storage capacity is low. The right part number can be found in a maintenance and service guide. Go to Support and Drivers page, enter your model and look in User Guides section.

  • LMS 4.2 virtual appliance: How to export archive devices configs on a network drive

    Hello,
I will install a new LMS 4.2 based on a virtual Linux Red Hat appliance.
I would like to export archive devices configurations based on /var/adm/CSCOpx/files/rme/dcma/shadow on an external drive.
Do we have embedded tools on LMS 4.2 Linux to share a network drive or do we use NFS commands ?
    Thanks for your help.
    Patrice

there are no such embedded tools.
I am awaiting Ciscos return with a solution for bringing the backup out of the VA (Virtual Appliance) and to a safekeeping place.
Same issue all around - the VA is now a client only !
I saw a hack around the SCP user inorder to use WinSCP for faster file browsing etc, and that might work, but I want a supported fix for this issue. And by that I mean Cisco needs to tell me what can be done and how its supported.
please share any knowledge you might get on this topic.

  • Demo License key issue in Cisco Content Secuirty managment Virtual appliance

    Hi,
I have installed a Cisco content security management appliance for customer evaluation. I have downloaded 45 day demo license key but unable to update the license key neither in GUI nor in CLI. I have referred installation guide and user guide but did not helped at all.
    Snapshot from GUI

Would suggest to re-copy and paste the XML license - as most likely you have extra white space that is causing the malform when pasting/loading.  If using Windows, try avoid using wordpad --- and use Notepad++ or similar.
