ANM disk space management?

ANM seems to be using a lot of disk space. I can see a lot of old files in /var/lib/anm/mysql named mysql-bin.* that are months old.   Are these some type of mysql log files that can just be deleted with rm ?  Looks like they have an index file though - mysql-bin.index?
Also the LOG db table what is the best way to reduce this? Is there a retention setting in the app?
Running ANM 2.0(0)    Upgrade on the todo list
Thanks, Graeme

Is there a Disk Space management utility for Macs as there is for Windows. I had to re-install my Leopard OS and I've just lost 10 Gb of space. It may be something to do with archiving but a bit mysterious! You can probably tell from this that my computing knowledge isn't great!!!

  • Disk Space Management Utility

I was having an issue on my MP this weekend to only find out the issue was because I had no free hard disk space.  1TB (RAID 1 non boot drive).  I know I have stuff I no longer need, but I find it difficult to determine what needs to go without going through every single folder.  If could start with the biggest space hogs and work my way down that would be very helpful in my efforts to recover space effectively. Also, it would have been nice if I had been alerted that I was running low on disk space before I actually ran out.
Is there some sort of application that would help me identify my largest files as well as monitor my disk usage and alert as I approach capacity?
    Thanks

Grand Perspective will give you a visual representation of your disk usage which you can click on to show you where the files are.
I don't know of anything that will tell you when you are getting close to capacity. I just have the status bar turned on in the finder and look at the disk space periodically.

  • Time Machine disk space management?

My 2009 MacBook Pro (500 MB which has 160 GB of space used) hard drive has a Time Capsule (2 TB, USB which has 323 GB of space used) and seems to work fine.
I'm getting suspicious because whenever I check backupd with Console, Console reports back Time Capsule always has 1.52 TB of free space.   It says this after I've added movies, music, and photos.  It seems like it should be using more of the Time Capsule as I add more files.
Time Machine indicates it has daily backups for a month and then switches to weekly backups until Time began.  I can retreive deleted files through Time Machine with no problem.
Do I worry too much or have a problem?

You're probably ok, but it wouldn't hurt to "spot check" via the "Star Wars" display to be sure your recent movies, etc., are really there.
And/or, use one of the apps in #A2 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting to see exactly what's getting backed-up each time.
If everything is there, what you may be seeing is the rather odd behavior of the sparse bundle disk image that Time Machine puts your backups in when they're made over a network.  It will grow as you add things, but doesn't shrink automatically when you remove them.
So what may have happened is, some large things that weren't on your system for a long time were deleted, and after 24 hours or a month, Time Machine deleted the backup copies of those items.  But that didn't recover any space.  Instead, all your new backups are using that vacated space.  Once it's filled-up, the sparse bundle will start to grow again.

  • Managing Hard Disk space

    Hello all
Well I'm glad to say I'm near the end of my first FC project, it has taken me a couple of months but I'm for the most part of happy with and, it has been a learning experience for sure...
One thing I have learned is the amazing amount of hard disk space consumed, this has me questioning a few things.
Is it normal for an average of 1 minute to consume 1 Gig of HD space ?
What is the best way for one to manage HD space when working with FC ?
I know I'll need to up-grade my HD to one much larger, my thought is going with an external HD. If all goes as planned I'll have a G5 and can retire my G4.
Thanks for any and all advise....
    James

"If you get an external HD make sure it is a Firewire one and not a USB 2.0."
My advice (from bitter experience) is to get TWO separate external HDs, one for the Scratch and one as a backup of the Scratch, backed up regularly. If the Scratch disc fails you will have to re-capture from your camera and if you have several active projects that is a pain - in fact a disaster if the failure damages the captured files and you can't re-shoot.
A RAID seems an attactive proposition because whenever you save a file to the RAID, (and I think that applies to capturing), the data are written simultaneously to the other drive in the RAID, so making a continuous and automatic backup at thast time. However, if the internal power supply circuitry in the RAID case failes, both drives fail. So two HDs, each in a separate case, seems safer.

  • Fresh Install of Oraclve VM Manager?  Not enough disk space?

    Hi,
I am very new at this.
I have installed Oracle VM from the ISO and took all of the defaults.
Next, I have mounted the Oracle VM Manager ISO and when I run sh ./runIntstaller.sh, it starts to work, but when I choose the option to install a XE database, I get an error when it checks the available disk space and it says I have less than 2600MB free.
I know this is not true since it's a brand new machine with lots of space.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    _Brent

Part of the recipe is described here: http://technology.amis.nl/blog/7733/oracle-vm-single-box-install-server-managernovm but as mentioned in the post it is a NOT SUPPORTED configuration, although I hope it will be in the future for small environment/business solutions. Oracle VM Manager needs a minimum of 2+ Gb for the / (root) volume and approx the same for swapspace. If you get this right during the installation of Oracle VM Server, this will give you the option to install the Oracle VM Manager part in Domain-o / dom0. The advantage of this setup is that it will boot automatically all the essential parts (vm/oc4j/db).
The Domain-0/dom0 vm will have lack in resources regarding memory. Alter the grub settings to give this part a minimum of 1 GB RAM to work with otherwise the whole setup will be unstable (probably due to the JVM that takes all memory when under stress which will cause paging...)

  • NI Configuration Manager: Insufficient disk space to perform backup

    Hi,
I'm having an issue with my PXI-8110 controller running LabVIEW Real-Time 10.0.1.  On start-up, I receive a message is displayed saying "NI Configuration Manager: Insufficient disk space to perform a backup"  This message just appeared.  Upon starting an FTP session I was able to see that there is only 181 megs of data on the hard drive.  In MAX, when I view the system settings of the remote PXI controller, it says that there are 0 bytes available.  I'm not sure why this is the case.  I'm not able to deploy any Veristand projects to the controller as a result.  Has anyone experienced this problem?
    Thanks,
    Cosimo

    Hello WillPwr,
I have now had 2 different systems develop this exact error.  After the first occurrence, I assumed that it was a problem with the HD and replaced it.  Now, I am starting to worry that there may be an issue with the file management routines in LabVIEW RT.  I understand how to fix the issue, but do you have any idea of what causes the issue.  In my application, I create a temporary file to store DAQ data then save the data to a log file.  After a test is complete, the log file is transferred to a "Host" computer and the process is started again by the user when they initiate a new test.  My question: can the continuous creating and deleting of temporary files be causing the file management in the RT system to become corrupt?
It is annoying for a customer to have to go through the process of formatting the hard drive and re-installing the software.  Not to mention that it makes the software appear to have issues...  Which it may have, but I have been very careful to close and open new files as to not develop open file references.
    Any Thoughts?
    Big Ev.

  • Managing disk space

    Hello Mac gurus!
I'm wondering if there is any way for me to manage the disk space taken up by different user accounts on the same laptop. My laptop has two user folders on it. One of them, the one I use most often, has only 100MB left of space. The other, which I use less frequently but which I need to have on the machine, has 25GB of space available.
Is there a way to transfer to my main user folder's allocation the disk space that my laptop is allocating to this second, less-frequently-used user folder?
Many thanks to anyone who can help me! I appreciate it...

I do think FileVault is probably the problem. I don't like it in general, and I suspected it here because a FileVault user account actually IS inside a separate volume - a password-encrypted disk sparse-image which is normally invisible because it is in /Users/.username/ , a hidden folder. It sounds like that disk-image volume is out of space.
The size of the FileVault sparse-image is normally set to the size of the entire disk when created, so running out of space doesn't usually happen unless the image file gets corrupted. However if the FileVault account was migrated into your present computer from an earlier computer with a smaller disk, it doesn't get updated and won't take advantage of the increased disk space. Had you done this?
Regardless, the goal now should be to free up enough space to turn off FileVault. How big is your HD, and how big are your two user accounts? Is the second account also FileVault protected?

  • Managing Disk Space on ACS5.2 VMWare

    Hi,
is it possible to change the default Disk Space reservation for the Viewer database in ACS5.2 VMWare installation (see Table 3-1 on ACS5.2 cli-reference guide)?

If this area is outside of the Flash Recovery Area, then it is up to you to manage the space. You can set an appropriate retention policy to accommodate your expected recovery/space requirements.

  • Managing Time Machine Disk Space

I have a NAS server that I use to back up all my computers (3 PCs, and 2 Macs).  For various reasons that I won't bore you with, I cannot partition that storage into multiple partitions.  Is there a way to control how much disk Time Machine uses before it starts dropping old backups?  I do not want it to use up unecessary space to keep backup longer than needed.  I there a way to control the amount of disk space available to TM or control how long to keep backups?
    Thanks.

Thanks for the reply but this link did not give me anything new that I did not know.  Good overview of Time Machine but did not answer the question.

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.
If you select the disk icon for your hard drive on the Desktop, then Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the upper panel it will show your drive's space statistics - Capacity, Used, and Available. It is the latter you are interested in to see how much space is left on the drive. If you have less than 1 GB or so, then you must stop trying to write to the drive or you may corrupt it completely.

  • GW Disk Space Usage Management

    Hi There!
We have a client who amoung 20 employees uses around 250GB of Disk Space for
    GW.
Whilst we aren't having any significant issues presently around GW, each of
the mailboxes for the heavy users is around 20-30GB. They have asked us to
show them what is taking the most space, and get their levels down a litte.
    Say 4GB a Mailbox.
Is it possible to run a report that shows me the 5000 largest messages in
the system across either mailbox or Post Office.
I can do this with a find * from the client and sort by size, but it doesn't
really show me if deleting said message will actually bring down the size,
as if someone else has it too, then it just removes the pointer.
Also is there something required once a customer removes say 5000 messages
from their mailboxes, to tell GW to release the space etc?
    Cheers
    Andre
