Thanks for that link :)
Something else ... has anyone here had to program
some type of content management for a web application
you had to program?
Regards,
Sim085
a bit, yeh. I worked on a content management system for a few weeks, that was a web app, and ajax, too, so it was fully buzzword-compliant :-)
but I didn't do an enormous amount of work on it, and left the company very quickly

  • Plans to Open Source Identity Manager

Hello all! Are there plans to open-source Identity Manager much as Sun has done for Access Manager (OpenSSO) and Federation Manager (OpenFM). :-)
    Best,
    --John

In next future, Identity Manager will be in open source. But, Access Manager, I don't have news.

  • Adobe Open Source features in CS5

Adobe announces the issue of CS5, so what innovations in Open Source Technics will be included there? I asked Google  for software consulting services http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&tbo=p&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aoffici al&tbs=blg%3A1&q=Adobe+Open+Source+Website+CS5&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai= as the result I found that Web Premium CS5 also features support for the most popular open source content management. But what's about more advanced features? Who knows?

    Yes we use Suitcase Fusion.
Prior to updaing to CS5 we had an older version of suitcase fusion 12.xxxx
When we upgraded to CS5 we also upgraded to the current version of Suitcase Fusion 3 & updated it.
No specific plugins come to mind.

  • Managing Open Source Web Projects...

    I have checked out
    http://www.rollerweblogger.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=RollerSourceCodeAccess
the Roller 1.2 branch, using Subclipse.
Then I have chosen "Manage as Web Application" in the menu.
And I get an error message...
"Unable to find a valid WEB-INF folder in the select project."
Yes, there is a /web/WEB-INF/ folder. But there is no web.xml in that folder. What does "valid WEB-INF" mean?
Now who is "wrong" here? The target in open source development must be "Check out, Code, Test, Check in". Is it
    - Eclipse that is not flexible enough?
    - NitroX that is not flexible enough?
    - The roller project that does not confirm with Specification? (which Specification?)
    - How can this be improved?
    Best regards,
    Marky

    Yes, thanks for this advice.
So what I finally had to do was:
    ant built.xml -all
Then I have chosen "Manage as Web Application" in the menu.
Then I have chosen "Rebuild NitroX Database"
But then it did not regognize the "Struts Configuration" automatically.
    So I closed the project.
    And then open the project.
And then I was at the point, where it looked ok! I now even see the Struts Configuration.
Unfortunately all this still breaks with the rule:
"Check out, Code, Test, Check in"
since there were more steps and knowledge involved.
    So who can improve here?
    - Eclipse that is not flexible enough?: well, it seems like Eclipse can handle this.
    - NitroX that is not flexible enough?: well, it seems like Eclipse can handle this.
    - The roller project that does not confirm with Specification? (which Specification?). Yes, maybe the open source projects need to adapt to enable "Check out, Code, Test, Check in", is that right?

  • Open Source for Workflow Management

    Hello All,
a colleague of mine told me that he heard about an open source tool for Workflow Management.
Is it right that there is an open source product?
I don't know any open source products in the world of SAP.
Thanks a lot for your answers!

Please check this link. I do not think so

  • [ANN] XINS 2.1 open source Web Services framework release

XINS 2.1 Web Services Framework has been released.
XINS is an open source Web Services Framework based on simple specifications of the Web Service in XML and
generation of code and documentation from the specification.
The generation includes Client JAR with its Javadoc, Server side template with its Javadoc, documentation in OpenDocument Format,
documentation in HTML including the test forms, WSDL file, unit tests (JUnit) and stubs.
The Web Services accept several protocols including REST, SOAP, XML-RPC, XML, JSON Yahoo! and JSON-RPC.
    What's new:
    * Start the API with java -jar <api name>.war
    * Improved generated specification in OpenDocument Format
    * Include/exclude calling convention with ACLs
    * New calling convention that maps SOAP request and response as the wsdl2api command mapping.
    * Smaller generated build.xml
    * Added possibility to include other runtime properties files
    * The runtime property location can be a URL
    * Swing Graphical User Interface
    * New tools: emma, glean, webstart
    * New target: javadoc-test-<api name>, javadoc-apis
    * Bug fixes and small RFEs
    Download XINS 2.1:
    Windows installer: http://prdownloads.sf.net/xins/xins-2.1.exe?download

    Documentation: http://xins.sourceforge.net/documentation.html
    User guide: http://xins.sourceforge.net/docs/index.html

I recommend you implement your web service with JAX-WS 2.0
Axis (both version) are good but why do you want to use something that is not included in JEE API, when Java provide same thing with better performance.
personally try to prevent non standard technologies despite they can be better than core java implementation sometimes.
    I don't know Xfire.
    the good:
-JAX-WS performance is better than axis,
    - you can create your web service simply with annotation.(this means write class and then make it as a service easily)
    - support every kind of service invocation(callback,Asynchronous,...)
    - architecture is nice (you can operate on SOAP level)
    the Bad:
    - It is JEE 5 or JSE 6 dependent.
    - there is seriously lack of documentation and examples for it, on java web sites and internet.

  • Most Important Conference for Enterprise Content Management (ECM) marketplace in India

Enterprise Content Management (ECM) is no longer just about
technology, or just about content. It is about content, community,
and context. The deluge of data and information, coupled with the
ever-increasing need for compliance is forcing enterprises to take
a strategic look at ECM and its associated disciplines. To stack up
to competition, enterprises are looking up to faster, flexible, and

C-level executives, senior IT process management personnel,
marketing and content managers are looking to find the precise
solution that will fit the needs of their organization. What are
these available solutions, and how do they stack up to the needs of
a specific enterprise? What roles do strategic topics such as
Governance, Collaboration, Enterprise 2.0 play in the evaluation of
these solutions? What is a promising approach, and how do I find
the correct partners? The ECM track at Business Technology Summit

  • ANN: Ajax4jsf . New Open Source project that brings AJAX capability to JSF

I would like to inform everybody about the new Open Source project - Ajax4jsf. It is hosted on java.net
    URL: https://ajax4jsf.dev.java.net/
Ajax4jsf is a rich component framework that has been created exclusively to bring rich user interface functionality to the JavaServer Faces. It enables page-wide AJAX support instead of the traditional component-wide. It means you can define the event on the page that invoke AJAX request and area(s) of the page that should be synchronized with the JSF Component Tree after the AJAX request changes the data on the server according to the events fired on the client.
Actually, ajax4jsf is based on the framework, Alexander Smirnov introduced last summer ( http://smirnov.org.ru/en/ajax-jsf.html ) . He is an architect for ajax4jsf right now.
In addition to the features the previous version of his framework had, we already added the following:
    * Framework for support easy change "look and feel" ( skinning )
    * Support for handle off-page resources ( JavaScript, CSS styles, images, objects). Resources can be placed in application classpath ( for example, put in JAR), generated by program ( for example, paint images by Java2D or JAI ), with full caching support
    * Templating system for easy creating components renderers ( using jsp-like xml template instead of direct call write...() methods )
    * Special JTidy-based response filter - it can correct any HTML code from components to avoid incompatibilities with DHTML

  • DBAShell - New Open Source Project for Oracle DBA's

I'd like to have this project included in the Open Source Oracle tools list at: http://www.oracle.com/technology/community/opensource_projects.html
I’'ve been an Oracle DBA for quite some time (since 7.0.13) and a developer for many years. One of the things I'’ve always wished for was an easier way to set up environment variables for different Oracle Home’s and a way to provide passwords to scripts without embedding them in plain-view.
About 3 years ago, I started a set of functions and scripts at my company that did exactly just that and provided many more functions for things like checking database status, running scripts quietly unless errors are detected, running actions in parallel (like fast shutdowns at once, or multiple analyzes), restarting databases in a guaranteed fashion, aliases to common folder locations, etc..
About a month ago, after putting all this time and effort into these scripts and using them in production all this time, I realized I wanted more out of the scripts like support for other databases and thought that it would be best if I gave it new life as an Open Source project.
So that is how http://sourceforge.net/projects/dbashell/ was started. Now it’s in a second release (DBAShell 0.85) that is more modular and would allow other people to easily add support for other OS’s, other Shells, and other Databases.
Here is a description of the project from the latest news item:
DBAShell is a project based around Shell functions and scripts designed to make it easy for DBA's to use Databases in a command line environment. Currently supported is Oracle with ksh and bash on AIX, Solaris, Linux. The code base itself is 3 years old and has been in use in Production environments all of that time.
    Features include:
    * Automatic setting of all environment variables based on SID requested.
    * Manage PATH's and other path like variables for each ORACLE_HOME needed.
    * Run scripts with stored passwords (no more hard-coding of passwords!!)
    * Automatically set SID based on Script location (makes it easier to share scripts between SID's)
    * manage temporary script output and check for oracle errors in output
    * check database status and versions from scripts
    * stop/start databases in parallel (faster startup)
    * compile all database objects
    * analyze objects in parallel (Faster analyzes)
    * set aliases and variables for common SID areas, etc..
    * many helpful commands for common Oracle tasks
Over a thousand people have already downloaded the prior release and more are downloading every hour.
I'm seeking feedback from anybody that would be willing to take a look at the project, trying it out, give me any feedback you have on it, and perhaps even direct me to where I could best promote this project.
I wrote a tutorial that shows at a glance some of the more useful features of DBAShell:
    http://sourceforge.net/docman/display_doc.php?docid=34041&group_id=170224
    Main site:

    Download:
    http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/dbashell/dbashell-0.85.tar.gz?download

Always glad to have people thinking about the poor DBA's. Usually, the developers get most of the attention in open source.

  • Out of the box porlets for Content Management with BEA Portal

I am looking at BEA Portal for a simple Intranet site with some basic content management system capabilities. I would like to implement this without the use of a third party tool and wanted to know if there are any open source or out of the box BEA portlets/web-apps with basic CMS capabilities beyond what has been shown in the Portal tutorials around CMS. From doing the tutorials, I have learned how to manage content, and how to build a site from scratch to access the content using the <cm:> tags. However, without additional third party products such as Documentum or Interwoven, is there any free BEA/open source portlets to:
    - Configure exposure of this content in a runtime framework? (ie content manager can expose new content from the repository by a configurable admin GUI, place where this content is on the page)
    - Allow for a simple approval workflow where content that gets added to the repository by user A has to be approved by user B before automatically exposing?
Interested to know if custom portal type development is the only way to do these kind of simple functions, or third party product.

    Hi,
Did you have a chance to look into WebLogic Portal 8.1 SP3? Check out the new Library Services features, which includes versioning and simple approval:
    http://e-docs.bea.com/wlp/docs81/adminportal/help/CM_MAN_LifecycleOV.html
We also provide a few ootb portlets that allow users to interact with the CM system. Let us know if you have additional questions.

    Hello,
When I copy and paste (or move) a content that has a property binary, in the second instance (the copy) these properties are corrupted. When I try to access to these properties, I receive the next exception:
com.bea.content.RepositoryException: No binary value could be found for property.

Is this a bug of Portal?
Is there any way to do this and the data are not corrupted?

WLP 814 using content management P13N tags or APIs. While your portal is up and users have browsed content, run the portalAdmin--content update content, or use load_cm_data.sh and you get exception.
FYI I believe this bug will most likely happen on SMP boxes. IE you'll not likely see this on a single CPU box. Just my guess based on experience.

iSync automatically takes the newest changes to data on your devices and applies them to all other devices when you sync.
There is no manual override for similar content when syncing your phone. The ability to select data on one device or another appears on an initial sync when you choose to 'Merge' the data on the device and on the Mac. Doing this is often unsuccessful, so for an initial sync its better to start with a fully up-to-date Mac Address Book and a completely empty phone.
Have you renamed the telephone number fields in the Mac Address Book? If you have, that can cause multiple phone numbers of the same type to appear. However Sony Ericsson phones only support one number of each type:
    work
    mobile
    home
    fax
    other
If your fields in the Mac's Address Book are named anything other than this, set them back. Then make sure your Mac's Address Book is fully up-to-date, back it up, then click "Reset Sync History..." in iSync Preferences and re-sync your phone.
.Mac Sync is separate to iSync and is for syncing Mac-to-Mac, so you can ignore any references to .Mac if you're just syncing your phone.

  • ConfigMgr 2012 Update Source content deleted

    Greetings,
I am experiencing a problem that is appears to be the same as the old thread here:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/bee18ffb-f779-4aa4-900d-046e7711424c/sccm-2012-source-content-gets-deleted?forum=configmanagergeneral
Rather than revive an old post, I thought it best to start my own.
We have a rather large environment (CAS +5 Primaries + Many DP's) and we are currently adding several new remote DP's each week. Each time a new DP is added it is placed in a Distribution Group and the "core" package content is sent
    to it.
I have a problem where my Windows Update Packages keep failing due to content disappearing from the source folder location. This started some time ago, and is now becoming a regular event to correct. Not every day, but once a week or so.
The Update group has the updates all showing as "downloaded"
I have a report query that matches the updates to the "GUID" subfolder so I know all the content is there
I distribute the content from the CAS. Distrmgr.log shows all is good. Packagemgr.log on the Primaries show all is good
Client have been installing the updates as expected so the deployment does work
Days/weeks later, ALL the DP's will show as "failed" for that update package. Checking the distmgr.log shows that it is failing to distribute due to a missing source folder. I use my query to work out which update that subfolder GUID belongs to,
but it is already flagged as downloaded, and when trying to download it again CM just "skips" it thinking it already has the content in that package.
The "fix" is to download the same update to a new package instead. CM then does a proper check, realises it doesn't have the content and will download the update to the new package source location. I can then copy the missing GUID subfolder
from the new package into the original package and try the distribution again.
The problem now is that there are usually many folders missing, so distmgr.log will fail again on the next missing folder. Because it stops at the first error, repeating the above process is incredibly tedious when there are a lot of missing folders.
My current "solution" is to select ALL the updates that should be in the current package and download them all to a "Temp package" that isn't deployed or distributed anywhere. Then in future when the main deployment package fails, I just
"select all, copy" the contents of the temp folder into the original folder (skip duplicates) and it puts back all the missing content and distribution will work again.
We are not using ADR's for this content, although I do have an ADR for the Endpoint updates which go into a completely different distribution package.
*Something* is cleaning up or purging these folders from the source location, but I have no idea what process or mechanism this might be.
Any thoughts or suggestions most welcome.
    Scott.

I've found the cause, blog post write here:
    http://kickthatcomputer.wordpress.com/2014/10/11/configuration-manager-update-source-content-being-deleted/
Microsoft was working with me trying to identify what was deleting the folders, however nothing was appearing as the cause.
I just realised this morning that I had used the built-in CM12 Migration function some time back to migrate update packages and groups over to our second hierarchy but hadn't updated any of the migrated content since then. The migrated packages on the second
hierarchy still point to the same source location and so whenever my original hierarchy added content to the update packages, the second hierarchy would delete it because it though it was "orphaned" content.
This is something people will have to watch out for when using the migration wizard as the same type of issues will impact things like WIM boot image packages as well where the source content can be manipulated directly by the CM12 system on one hierarchy
without the other one being aware of that change.
At the moment the options are to either
Make sure you run a "migrate changes" job whenever you make changes to updates on your source hierarchy to keep them in sync
Manually make a copy of the source content to a different folder or location, then update the package source location on the migrated packages to point to that new content (undesirable for massively large content)
Create a scripted method to schedule regular migration jobs between the hierarchies (looking into this option now)

  • Open Source equivalent to Adobe Illustrator?

What is the best Open Source equivalent to Adobe Illustrator?
    (or closest equivalent)
This may be a matter of personal preference but could anyone share their thoughts or opinions?
    Thank you,

I took Inkscape for a test drive in order to compare it to Adobe Illustrator. Here are my comments I would like to share with this newsgroup. Generally and professionally, I prefer Adobe Illustrator over Inkscape because Illustrator is a more responsive program - faster during some key drawing procedures, however Inkscape should not be ignored as it is available for no cost and is very capable and sufficient as a drawing tool. I was impressed with Inkscape - except for its typesetting features, its lack of being able to use spot colours and its limited PDF export options.
I hardly touched all the Inkscape features in this review - only a few main features which seemed to work sufficiently.
This review is written for someone looking for a vector drawing program to learn and use who may not have a lot of experience with a professional drawings programs such as Adobe Illustrator and who may be looking for a no-cost alternative that is sufficiently acceptable.

    Review by Mike
platform: mac computer on OS 10.4
    March 2009
Generally, a very capable and extremely useful program - especially considering there is no cost. Under the "Help" menu, is a link to the online manual which you can download too - but I just read that parts I needed online.
I found the info I was looking for a few days ago when I first tried the program. Initially, I couldn't find a way to convert a point from a smooth point to a corner point. I found this feature in the menu bar. When you use the "edit path my node" tool (second tool in the tool box) you can make this choice (corner or smooth point) from a row of icons along the top of the document window - very obvious but I didn't see that at first. Its a good feature to know to manipulate your shapes to exactly as you would like. With this ability, you can choose to convert your point to a corner point or a smooth point - important to being able to draw any shape you like.
You can also adjust the bezier curve angle on the fly (while you draw) (see last point [1] at the end of this review) by holding down the shift key or the control key but that would depend on how much users would want to practice this program. The main thing is, that it can be done - just like in Illustrator. Illustrator users would just have to remember a few different key stroke patterns while drawing.
Doesn't seem to be much this program can't do, except for spot colour capability. Compared to Illustrator, I would be curious to know if there was anything critical you can do in Illustrator that you cannot do in Inkscape. Typesetting in Inkscape isn't so great but generally the program is sufficient.
    Here are four main points:
    1. Inkscape doesn't have spot colour capability
This is probably the biggest disadvantage of Inkscape for professionals. For commercial artists, printing spot colour is a critical capability which enables such things as specifying a pantone colour to a printer. However, for web pages and CMYK artwork, Inkscape is sufficient because web page art is all RGB in colour (no spot colours are used in web page art).
    2. No PDF export options.
Inkscape's PDF export features seem to be limited and do not give you many options such as compression options. That is probably the second most noted limitation of Inkscape for professional artists. There may be a work around however. If you export the drawing as postscript and open it in Adobe Acrobat Professional you could set these options here instead. But then you would need to buy Adobe Acrobat Professional - but which is a very useful program - one that is indispensable for managing pdf files quickly. "Web Capture" is one of my favourite features of Adobe Acrobat Professional - can save a website or a web page to pdf for archival purposes. Merging several PDF's into a single document is also a good feature of Adobe Acrobat Professional for general purpose file management.
    3. Inkscape is slower than Illustrator. Some Inkscape features are OK but others are slower.
But that might not be a fair comparison because I am testing Inkscape on my ten-year-old 350 MHz Mac G3. But then again, I am also using Illustrator on this same G3 and Illustrator is very fast. I wonder how fast Inkscape would feel on a newer mac?
Overall, these speed issues may not be relevant because for most projects and drawing tasks Inkscape is fast enough.
The slowest feature of Inkscape I find is selecting a typeface if you are setting any type in your document. It takes too long to scroll down your selection of fonts. Could be my computer - or could be Inkscape ot something to do with the fact I have many fonts - but they are all managed by fontbook. I am not sure why selecting a type face seems to take so long to scroll through the list of fonts.
    4. Inkscape struggles with type setting.
Typesetting in Inkscape is slow. The critical problem with Inkscape type is that the type in the final Inkscape document (which is natively in the .svg format) will not open in Illustrator. This is not good. I am not sure why and I may possibly be doing something wrong - but I tried this in many ways and there appears to be a problem with the way Inkscape saves type - maybe its just certain fonts (non-type-1?) - not sure. Any Inkscape documents will open in Illustrator but the type will appear in a large black box - major problem. Obviously there is a font translation problem with the way Inkscape saves blocks of type. The solution is to not expect type to work between these two programs (between Inkscape and Illustrator) - but often you don't need to transfer your files between Inkscape and Illustrator and so for these projects this may not be a problem. Another solution is at the final stage of your drawing in Inkscape, convert all the type (if there is any type)to paths ("convert to path" feature) - but this procedure is irreversible - so save a copy of your document first with the fonts not converted to outline. I am sure newer versions of Inkscape will correct this problem eventually. I think there is future hope for Inkscape on this issue.
Here are some other general points I noticed about Inkscape:
The pattern tool (good for wallpaper):
For fun, I tried the pattern tool to try and design a wallpaper pattern. Its pretty cool. You can turn any objects you draw into a wallpaper pattern.
Another way to do wallpaper is to just manually copy and paste in a repeated manner offset by the length of your object until you have enough copies to make a full piece of wallpaper - but that takes longer than simply using the pattern tool.
However, the best tool for generating patterns for wallpaper is probably this tiling feature:
    tiling:
    http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Tiles.html
I wouldn't bother reading the whole manual - just the parts you might need to reference while working on a project. The bezier curve section in the manual is good to read:
    bezier curves:
    http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Paths-Creating.html
As mentioned on that page, paths can be created using three ways:
    1. the Freehand tool
    2. the Bezier
    3. the Calligraphy tool
My favourite is the bezier tool. It offers precise control.
The other tools are good too (and probably fun to use) but for precise drawing, I like the Bezier tool myself.
Other users might prefer the other drawing tools (Freehand tool or Calligraphy tool) for faster stroke creation and faster line effects.
Once you draw a shape and close it (click on the first endpoint when placing the last endpoint) (I always recommend closing a shape - but you don't have to) then you can colour the shape any colour you would like or with a shaded gradient or even make it transparent to any degree and overlay it on top of other shapes. Lots of control to do some pretty creative stuff.
I would also recommend organizing your drawing into layers. If...(continued on next post...)
