Annotation and Fast start

Everytime I export with quicktime pro with fast start, the annotation disappears. and whenever i re-enter the annotation back into the 'fast start'ed movie, the fast start function dissapears. what am i doing wrong? there must be a way around this, all the apple trailers seem to have done it well.

Export your movie.
Open this file and add your annotations.
Save As and give it a new file name..

  • Protection Modes and Fast-Start Failover

Oracle Maximum Availability Architecture allows you to set fast-start failover (FSF)to automatically failover to the standby in the event of losing the primary database.
One condition of FSF is that it will only initiate if there is a guarantee of no data loss. This is where i start getting confused. Maximum Availability mode allows for data loss as the primary will still process transactions if the connection to the standby is lost. This means then in the event of the standby being out of sync with the primary database (i.e. network glitches) and then losing the primary database to hardware issues for example. FSF will not be able to initiate as data will be lossed and a complete loss of service will happen!
Can FSF be used in Maximum Protection mode as this will always mean FSF will be able to occur? Also what is the overhead towards the databases with regards to running them in this mode?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hi,
Can FSF be used in Maximum Protection mode as this will always mean FSF will be able to occur? Yes, Maximum Protection Mode can be used with Fast-Start Failover, please review the next link.

Also what is the overhead towards the databases with regards to running them in this mode?
Yes, the overhead is on major scale that other modes.

  • Hinted streaming, fast start and fast start compressed header

    Hi,
I am trying to export a movie trailer from FCP through Compressor for use on a website hosted by Wordpress. I am using h.264 and am trying to decide whether it is optimal to use hinted streaming, fast start or fast start compressed header. I found this discussion stream:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10451326
which was helpful, but stated explicitly to not use fast start compressed header. Can someone explain why not? I am also interested in a more in depth explanation of how/when you would choose each of these options.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Becky

The header information would normally be at the end of the file. Fast Start places it at the beginning so that this is the first part of the file to be loaded. This means that you can start playing the movie before it has finished downloading.
Fast Start Compressed Header goes one step further by compressing the header, but it is not always compatible with applications and I believe Adobe Flash Player is unable to play it.
Hinting tells the server the optimal method of streaming the movie, but this is only relevant if you have a streaming server (expensive). For most people, Fast Start will suffice.

  • Fast Start Failover has broken my Logical Standby and Flashback has not helped

    I have a primary ( PRIMARYP ), a physical standby ( STANDBYP ) and a logical standby ( STANDBYL ).
I configured Fast Start Failover ( with STANDBYP as the target ) and started an Observer. I did a shutdown abort on my primary and the Fast Start Failover did make STANDBYP the primary. I was able to reinstate PRIMARYP as a physical standby.
However when I checked my broker config it gave for STANDBYL
ORA-16795: the standby database needs to be recreated
Strange I though, since I would have expected STANDBYL to survive ok given that the new primary, STANDBYP was a physical standby of PRIMARYP.
Not to worry I thought, I simply will flashback STANDBYL to the beginning of the day and SQL APPLY will reapply all the redo.
This is where the problem begins
    I mount STANDBYL

  • Data Guard Broker: errors ORA-16816 and ORA-16817 with Fast Start Failover

    Hi,

    Primary db: orcl
    Standby db: stby
both databases are running on the same server.

    Hi DigerDBA
I did your advice , the error disappear, and thanks for your advice , but do I need to keep standby_file_management='AUTO' or 'MANUAL' in primary and standby init files?
Am asking this because when I use the observer the failover failed and I get the following error

  • Hinted streaming, fast start and the results.

    Hi,
I put some clips onto a website recently, some were 5 min movies. I was pleased with the results, as the movies started almost immediately on several computers I tried.
Unfortunately, the client had to wait over 4 min to see the video. My video was compressed with hinted streaming.
So of course 4 min. seems like they downloaded the whole video before it started.
I have a web guy looking into if perhaps this could be a server issue with the customer, but I wanted to check if anyone has some insight to this.
I personally am not really clear on the "hinted vs faststart"
    Thanks
    Jeff

Hinted steaming is for streaming videos like the Apple's VideoKeynote presentations. For Example:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/guide/appleevents/
Fast start is for progressive download of the video. For example:
    http://www.apple.com/getamac/ads/
I have feeling your server is not a streaming server so you need fast start/progressive videos. A fast start video will begin to play after a few seconds while the video is being downloaded into the browser.
Open all your videos in Quicktime. Do a SAVE AS and save each video to a new folder. Doing this will activate (place back) the fast start in each video.
Send one video to the server for a test. Make sure your html embed code for the video has AutoPlay set to true.
(Steaming servers aren't cheap. If you click on the keynote presentation you'll notice that you can jump to anywhere in the video without having to wait for the video to load. Streaming videos don't download to you browser/computer, they stay on the server. Fast start/Progressive video download to you bowser/computer. Also streaming videos are one way to discourage people from downloading the videos. The only way to capture a streaming video is to use a screen capture program, Quicktime X has this capability.)

  • How to export as mp4 and achieve effect of "fast start" in mov export

When exporting as a .mov one can check the "fast start" prepare for internet streaming option. This option allows the end user to start watching your video without waiting for the entire file to buffer/download. That's great.
However, when export as a .mp4 file, the same option does not exist.
Does anyone know how to achieve this "fast start" effect if exporting as an mp4?
I have an existing work around...just rename the .mov to .mp4.
I would like an .mp4 file because I use ezs3 to host my videos and the mp4 player options are far superior to the mov player options.
    Thanks for your help.

I'm having the same problem. I want to export an .mp4 that can start playing as soon as it starts downloading from a web site. Until I can find a solution, I'm using .m4v files, but they're huge.
    Does anyone have a solution?

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue?  Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC? Have you tried a different USB cable?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?

  • Fast Start Stub Projectors and Director 12

I created a fast start Stub Projector following the instructions here:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/director/kb/create-fast-start-director-stub.html
I have the "Xtras" folder in the same location as the .dir file, but for some reason the Xtras aren't loading.
    1. Do I need to call these Xtras in some sort of fashion from my .dir file?
    2. I have the .dir file and Xtras folder located in the "Contents" folder of my stub.app package. Do they need to be located in a different area (the root, or Resource, etc.)?
    3. Is there something else I could be doing incorrectly?

I don't know of any way you can put the Xtras inside your stub.app file. Nor can you have that Xtras folder anyplace other than the same folder that contains the stub.app file.
If you want a single file for your final product, you could create a Mac installer package that contains everything.
If your final goal is the Mac App Store, maybe you could instead stuff the projector and Xtras folder and .DIR files inside an app you produce using Xcode. When the Xcode app is launched, it would validate the App Store receipt. The app would then quit (perhaps with an explanation to the user) if the receipt is no good, or launch your projector and then silently quit. I'm planning on taking this approach.

  • IPod Touch randomly pausing, starting, and fast forwarding?

I have a 16 GB 2nd gen iPod touch and about 6 months ago I purchased Beats by Dr. Dre for them. They worked perfectly until the headband snapped. I then switched to using the earbuds that came with the iPod. A few days ago I purchased another set of Beats by Dr. Dre. They worked fine while using them the first time, but the second time using them any song I would listen to would randomly pause, start, and fast forward. I switched back to the earbuds that came with thr iPod and the problem didn't occur. I'm not sure what the cause of this is so if anyone could help it'd be much appreciated.

    Hello,
I am having a similar problem with my 5th generation Nano (5 weeks old). It started about 1 1/2 weeks ago and paused in only 1 song. When I touched the right side of the screen, the song restarted and continued playing. It happened 2 more times on different days and in different songs. Tonight, it paused 7 times during 3 or 4 consecutive songs. I used the same procedure as above to restart each time. Tonite, after a few more songs played without pausing, I backed up to the first song that had paused and let the song sequence replay. No problems this time??? I have not noticed if there is any fast forwarding occurring, but some songs end abruptly before the end (a separate problem). I am thinking that there may be a glitch at a certain spot on the Nano hard drive causing songs to pause. Is that possible? When playing, my Nano sits on a desk top and nothing is touching it. Thanks in advance.

  • Fast start problem

I'm playing around with options for sticking movies on my site and have run into a problem with fast start. If I enable 'fast start' the movie does indeed start playing in the browser shortly after it begins to download. No problem there. However, if I use QT7.0.3 to add annotations or set the 'automatically play...' option before uploading the movie no longer plays in the browser until it has completely downloaded.
Is this the expected behaviour? Are Fast start and annotations (and automatically play) mutually exclusive?

'Save as...' offers no Fast start option here. All it offers is 'self-contained' or 'reference'. Assuming this isn't caused by some long-standing QT bug then it would at least be decent of Apple to pop up a window to tell you about it when you use Save. After all, it isn't exactly obvious that Save will kill fast start is it? The only way to find out is to upload the movie to a site, which can take an age, and try to play it.
While I'm here, does anyone happen to know if the 'codebase' and 'classid' attributes are still needed for QT playback on a Windows box if the object tag is set up to play the movie in the QT Player instead of the browser window? I have no way of checking this as I have no access to Windows from here. I want to get rid of it so that I can get rid of the embed tag (which is non-standard). The presence of codebase and classid kills playback in Firefox windows (on a Mac at least) unless embed is present. I'd be prepared to forgo playback in the browser window if this would work.

  • Questions on the @ServiceClient annotation and Asynchronous webservices

    1. Is their a way to invoke a webservice in an asynchronous manner without using the @ServiceClient annotation? I’ve tried a few things to get access to the async versions of the web methods and each time I get an exception stating “java.rmi.RemoteException: Asynchronous methods can only be invoked from stubs with the ServiceClient annotation”.
    2. Is their anyway to generate a dynamically sized array of service port variables with the @ServiceClient annotation? All the examples that I have seen only have a single port variable annotated with @ServiceClient. I’ve tried creating a class that uses the @ServiceClient annotation, and while it does compile it fails when I try to invoke the services methods. I also found in some documentation a restriction that the @ServiceClient annotation can only be used in the core java (jws) webservice class.
    3. Is their a way to use a single service port variable with the @SeriviceClient annotation to invoke multiple calls to an asynchronous web method if that web method is part of a conversation? When I tried this I found that even though the asynchrounous calls were going out with any problems they were being processed serially on the target services side (I assume due to the conversation).
The problem I am trying to solve is I need to invoke a stateful webservice in an asynchronous manner multiple times from the same starting service.

    Hi
That is how I understand that document:
Locking: Forms, by default, locks a row as soon as the user starts modifying the data. That is pessimistic locking. Apex, on other hand (and optionally forms also) do not lock the record, but before applying any changes checks if the data has changed since the user queried it (what for some reason is called optimistic "locking")
DB connections: I am not sure why they used the terms synchronous/asynchronous, but the difference is that Forms, by default, keeps an permanent DB connection while the user is using the application, while Apex gets a connection from a connection pool every time a page is requested/submitted.
Architecture: Forms (in its web version at least) has 3 tiers: the browser, the appserver where the forms service runs and the database. As Apex runs inside the database, there are only 2 tiers: the browser and the database (though you still may need an http server in between which serves static content, I don't think it is considered part of the application in this context). If you are talking about client/server forms, then there are only 2 tiers.
    I hope this helps!
    Luis

  • The First execution of a Stored Proc shows a delay between SP:StmtStarting and SP:Starting

We experience a performanceproblem with some of our Stored Procedures. SQL Server is "Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (SP1) - 11.0.3128.0 (X64)"
    Situation:
SQL Server Proc1 executes some SQL Statement and starts some other SQL Stored Procedures. I open a SQL Management Studio Session "example session_id 105", trace the session 105 with the SQL Server Profiler.
I start Proc 1, when Proc1 starts the execution of Proc 2, the Profiler Trace shows a delay of 6 seconds between SP:StmtStarting "execute db..proc2 @SomeVar" and SP:Starting "execute db..proc2 @SomeVar".
All following executions of Proc1 in the Session 105 runs without a delay between SP:StmtStarting "execute db..proc2 @SomeVar" and SP:Starting "execute db..proc2 @SomeVar".
But when i open a new SQL Server Management Session "session_id 124", the first execution of Proc1 when it executes Proc 1, there is again the delay of 6 seconds between SP:StmtStarting "execute db..proc2 @SomeVar" and SP:Starting "execute
    db..proc2 @SomeVar".
Proc 1 starts the execution of Proc2 with a simple execute statement like this:
    Execute DB..Proc2 @SomeVar
    So its not dynamic SQL.
What is SQL Server doing? I understand that SQL Server has to do some work when it executes the first time a Stored Procedure. But why is the SQL Server doing it in every new Session?
How can i prevent this behavior or how to make it faster?
    Best Regards
    Paolo

    >In my case the temp tables ruined the performance.
Creating temp tables takes time & resources. Temporary table usage should be justified and tested in stored procedures. There are cases when temporary table usage is helpful especially with very complex queries.
In your case it appears that not one but several temp tables were applied. That can be punishing.
Paul White's blog: "Ask anyone what the primary advantage of temporary tables over
table variables is, and the chances are they will say that temporary tables support statistics and table variables do not.  This is true, of course; even the indexes that enforce PRIMARY KEY and UNIQUE constraints on table variables do not have
populated statistics associated with them, and it is not possible to manually create statistics or non-constraint indexes on table variables.  Intuitively, then, any query that has alternative execution plans to choose from ought to benefit from using
a temporary table rather than a table variable.  This is also true, up to a point.
The most common use of temporary tables is in stored procedures, where they can be very useful as a way of simplifying a large query into smaller parts, giving the optimizer a better chance of finding good execution plans, providing statistical
information about an intermediate result set, and probably making future maintenance of the procedure easier as well.  In case it is not obvious, breaking a complex query into smaller steps using temporary tables makes life easier for the optimizer in
several ways.  Smaller queries tend to have a smaller number of possible execution plans, reducing the chances that the optimizer will miss a good one.  Complex queries are also less likely to have good cardinality (row count) estimates and statistical
information, since small errors tend to grow quickly as more and more operators appear in the plan.
This is a very important point that is not widely appreciated.  The SQL Server query optimizer is only as good as the information it has to work with.  If cardinality or statistical information is badly wrong
at any point in the plan, the result will most likely be a poor execution plan selection from that point forward.  It is not just a matter of creating and maintaining appropriate statistics on the base tables, either.  The optimizer does
use these as a starting point, but it also derives new statistics at every plan operator, and things can quickly conspire to make these (invisible) derived statistics hopelessly wrong.  The only real sign that something is wrong (aside from poor performance,
naturally) is that actual row counts vary widely from the optimizer’s estimate.  Sadly, SQL Server does not make it easy today to routinely collect and analyse differences between cardinality estimates and runtime row counts, though some small (but welcome)
steps forward have been made in SQL Server 2012 with new row count information in the
    sys.dm_exec_query_stats view.
The benefits of using simplifying temporary tables where necessary are potentially better execution plans, now and in the future as data distribution changes and new execution plans are compiled.  On the cost side of the ledger we have
the extra effort needed to populate the temporary table, and maintain the statistics.  In addition, we expect a higher number of recompilations for optimality reasons due to changes in statistics.  In short, we have a trade-off between potential
execution plan quality and maintenance/recompilation cost.

  • MainStage 2.1.3 and it starts to freeze 20 min. into set. NOT GOOD ON STAGE! What up?

I'm using Mainstage 2.1.3 and it starts to freeze with the spinning beach ball around 20 min. into set. NOT GOOD ON STAGE! What up?

I keep chronological versions of my Concerts if I do any modifications, and multiple versions had the same problem: the loading bar (which starts with Feedback Control, then plug-ins) would freeze immediately; no beach ball, no nothing. I would have to force quit. I could load a blank template and that would work. Nothing had changed on my system, no new software, no new plug-ins. And, yes, I send reports of any major bugs to Apple.
The reason I was so frustrated this time was that I had been let down by my long-time relationship too many times in the past. I went so far as to buy a fast dedicated system for live performance only. Great cables, great I/O, great peripherals. But it has been like a weird relationship: one where your partner is the best in the world for the longest time and all is carefree bliss. Then, out of the blue, they do something gut wrenchingly bad. So, you think it must be your fault and you work on stuff. Maybe get some counseling, go to the gym, get some new clothes. A hairstyle. A faster car. Things are wonderful again! The relationship is working! Then, !wham! Out of the blue, you're let down again. Well, I am now at the point I am going to try some other relationships. Maybe they won't be smart or as pretty, but I need stability. If MS straightens up and I hear from others that she has changed and seems stable and predictable, I just may give her another try. Because deep down, I really do love her.

Hey, does anyone remember which Zen firmware it was that always gave the fast start up time? And if so, does anyone have a link to it's
    Cheers

I couldn't get it to work so I contacted Creative yesterday via e-mail. And amazing fast and friendly support they have got in Denmark
He said that it was a harddisk failure and it would cost me 67.52? to get it fixed. A new player here in DK costs about 200? so it's a shame but hey - it happens sometimes.
