Annotations used to add Logging to an application.

Hi i want to know ...if we can use Annotation to add code for Logging to a Java application...?
I have been trying various ways using annotations, for sometime ..with no help!!! :(

You can use an annotation processor to add code to your existing application, but you CANNOT add code to an existing compilation unit (Source file).
Generally you generate a new class from the annotations. The new class can be either a helper class (often with static methods) whose methods are called from some class in source code, a previously non existent superclass of some class in source code, or a subclass of some class in source code.
Your job is to see if there is some way to do what you want within those constraints, that actually adds value. (Sometimes it is possible but is so complex there is no value add by doing it).
I don't know what you want, so I can't answer definitively, but I suspect that may be a fruitless exercise in your case, but I could be wrong.
I generally start by trying to separate the generated code into a separate class, do that by hand until you get something working. If you can't - give up. Once you have all the code you want to generate in separate classes from the source code, then you can start looking at what annotations you need in order to tell an annotation processor how to generate that source code.
If you ask more specific questions we might be able to be more help.

  • How to add log to an application

    Hi,
    Can anyone give me the procedure for how to add logs to my application
    Regards
    Padma

    Padma. My understanding is that logging is the same way in Web Dynpro as in a normal J2EE app.
    Maybe this section in sap.help will be of use to you.

    I haven't personally used SAP's logging because we ported our apps from WebSphere and we were already using log4j. We evaluated SAP's logging and didn't find that the work involved to switch or bridge log4j to SAP's logging was worth it.
    Good luck

  • Need Some Help in Using Log4j for logging

    Hi
    I am using Log4j for logging in my application . i have problem some areas .
    I want to rotate my file on basis of Time. means if my log file name format is HH:MM then after every minute new log file should be created , i am using Size based rotation its working fine.
    Plz Tell me which propety i used to set my logfile name like DATeFormat
    i tried with this Property but failed
    log4j.appender.R.File=%d{HH:MM}
    Simlarly i dont want to bound BackupSize
    log4j.appender.R.MaxBackupIndex=1000
    i want that suppose after 2 Mb automatically start new file and there is no upper bound on that
    how can i do that or from where i can see all properties of Log4j Thanks

    Thanks
    But in this case i cannot do Size based rotation
    These properties not belong to DialyRolling.. class
    log4j.appender.R.MaxFileSize=1KB
    log4j.appender.R.MaxBackupIndex=1000
    what i want is if file size grow with in one minute i create new file using RollingFileApender and if size doesnt grow in one minute and minute cross then next minute file should be created , how can i acheive both of these

  • Unable to log on Planning application using Spreadsheet Add-In

    Hi.
    We are experiencing some problem with Spreadsheet Add-In and Planning application.
    We provisioned Planning users and created regularly security filters in Essbase: in fact, we are able to see users in Administration Console with Planning as Application Access Type.
    However, users are able to connect to Essbase server using Spreadsheet Add-In but they cannot connect to any application: I mean that they do not see the Planning application and its related databases by Spreadsheet Add-In.
    Any idea?
    Thanks a lot in advance

    Just one more issue.
    I tried to create a filter in Essbase, naming it as filter 1. Actually, the filter work correctly, even if the its name has a blank space.
    However, if I verify the filter in Administration console, it returns an error ( Invalid object name specified. filter 1 ): I think that it is a bug on 9.3.0.1.
    With regards to Planning, I noticed that users are not assigned to their filter in Essbase. In fact, as I take a look under Security node in Administration Console, no user has Access Database set to Filter, even if I would expect for it. Am I wrong?
    Anyway, that it is why users ticked to Analytic Services and Planning in Shared Services are able to use Spreadsheet Add-In... Unfortunately, they are able to retrieve all data... :_|
    Thanks a lot in advance

  • How can WLS use JSP pages in a Web Application witth just a JRE [Web Application, WAR, JSP, weblogic.jsp.pageCheckSeconds and JRE]

              How can WLS use JSP pages in a Web Application (either a .war file or a war directory structure) without a java compiler?
              I suspect either the JSP specification is flawed (i.e. it doesn't take account of servers using just a JRE), or BEA's implementation is broken.
              Production servers do not have a JDK installed. They only have a JRE. Therfore a java compiler is not present on the machine that the Web Application is deployed onto.
              On the development machine, when the server is requested to load the JSP it creates a tmpwar directory within the Web Application directory structure. This is then included in the resultant .war file thus:
              D:\war>jar -tf gmi.war
              META-INF/
              META-INF/MANIFEST.MF
              gmiService.jsp
              WEB-INF/
              WEB-INF/classes/
              WEB-INF/classes/com/
              WEB-INF/classes/com/bt/
              WEB-INF/classes/com/bt/gmi/
              WEB-INF/classes/com/bt/gmi/gmiService.class
              WEB-INF/getList.xsl
              WEB-INF/getListByConnection.xsl
              WEB-INF/getListByDistrict.xsl
              WEB-INF/getListByDistrictConnection.xsl
              WEB-INF/lib/
              WEB-INF/source/
              WEB-INF/source/build.bat
              WEB-INF/source/gmiService.java
              WEB-INF/web.xml
              WEB-INF/weblogic.xml
              tmpwar/
              tmpwar/jsp_servlet/
              tmpwar/jsp_servlet/_gmiservice.class
              tmpwar/jsp_servlet/_gmiservice.java
              When deployed on the production server with the web.xml file set to use the following values (note XML stripped):
              weblogic.jsp.pageCheckSeconds
              -1
              weblogic.jsp.precompile
              false
              weblogic.jsp.compileCommand
              javac
              weblogic.jsp.verbose
              true
              weblogic.jsp.packagePrefix
              jsp_servlet
              weblogic.jsp.keepgenerated
              false
              And in the weblogic.properties file:
              weblogic.httpd.webApp.gmi=war/gmi
              I've also tried with the .war file, but that insists on creating another tmpwar directory outside of the .war file.
              Then, although I have set pageCheckSeconds to -1 (don't check and don't recompile) ter production server still attempts to recompile the JSP's:
              Mon Sep 25 11:40:11 BST 2000:<I> <WebAppServletContext-gmi> *.jsp: init

    The default Java compiler from sun lives in the tools.jar that comes with
              the JDK. Just add that to your set of JARs which are deployed in production
              and you should be fine. No need to install the full JDK - just make the
              tools.jar available to WebLogic.

    BD.com = {
    default_domain = BD.com
    kdc = BDMGTSRV.BD.com
    I have tested the Kerberos,using kinit CMSACCatBD.com password, and got error message at below:

    My problem is failed to logon CMC and infoview and got error message at below:
    Account Information Not Recognized: Active Directory Authentication failed to log you on. Please contact your system administrator to make sure you are a member of a valid mapped group and try again. If you are not a member of the default domain, enter your user name as UserNameatDNS_DomainName, and then try again.
    Actually, I am sucessful to logon Business View manager with CRuser1. However, I fail to logon CMC and infoview and got the above error. Have you any suggestion to solve this problem?
    Ken.

    if you can logon with client tools then that should be an indication that the service account running the CMS IS working! Good news.
    So the problem is likely with the java portion (krb5/bsclogin or java options)
    If the files are in c:\winnt\ (if not copy them there) and perform c:\program files\business objects\javasdk\bin\kinit username
    then enter and password/enter again
    Probably get the same message. To note in your krb5.ini all domain info must be in CAPS (the .com appears to be in lower case)
    kinit works with just the krb5.ini, java SDK and AD (removing BO config and the service account from the picture). Once that works if your java options are specified properly you should be able to login to CMC/infoview.
    also 1 last point. Add udp_preference_limit = 1 to the krb5 lib defaults section
    libdefaults
    default_realm = BD.com
    dns_lookup_kdc = true
    dns_lookup_realm = true
    udp_preference_limit = 1

  • Registering log statements with application.log

    Hello,
    I'm struggling with how to direct my log statements to application.log. If I just initialize a logger via java.util.logging within my application, its log messages are routed to the opmn log (unless I add a filter redirecting them to a file). Likewise, if I use System.out, they go to opmn. What's the best practice for directing your application log statements to application.log (note, I'm deploying to oc4j). Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    ^ ...specifically, how do I print to application.log from the EJB app.

  • APEX 4.2.2 - ORA-6502 when logging in to application with anything other than Firefox!

    If I try to log into my application through anything other than Firefox I get the following message on the screen:
    Error
    Error processing request.
    ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error
    OK
    If I try to access the APEX Builder through a browser other than Firefox, I get no HTML returned.
    Last night I upgraded from 4.1 to 4.2.2 and ran the patch that dealt with missing developer toolbars...
    Of course, I only ever use Firefox, but my users are using IE...
    Any ideas?

    When I print to PDF using Acrobat 11 Pro from any application the acrobat Reader does not launch automatically. Associations are correct. Happens from Chrome, IE, Word, Excel, Powerpoint. Previously had deskPDF installed but uninstalled correctly. Can't find a preference setting for the auto launch. Thx for your help,  Bruce

    A simple way is to flatten the form fields, which converts the field appearances to regular page contents. You can do this with JavaScript or PDF Optimizer (Advanced > PDF Optimizer > Discard Objects > Flatten form fields). A very nice script that adds a custom menu item can be found here: http://www.uvsar.com/projects/acrobat/flattener/

  • Display log IN WD application

    Hi all,
    I want to display the logs for a particular application in the same application.
    The problem is that to view logs I should use the Administrator user (and to know its password) in all possible cases I thought of: remote connection to the machine where the application server runs, configure remote connection to Visual Admin of the remote machine where the server runs using Standalone Log Viewer, trying to see the logs through the web interface of the server. In all cases the problem is the same: the application user should not have rigths to Administrator credentials and to see log he should have such.
    So, how could I read and display the log of my application IN my application? The log is written in different file, it's not in the defaultTrace.trc.
    Please, don't redirect me to any link, except if it's about the same (not similar) question and have real solution!
    I've already tried to find something that will help, but I couldn't.
    Thanks,
    Ogniana

    Hi,
    I assume that, the messages are retunrd from a BAPI .
    DATA: es_message type bapret2 or any strcutre of your type or message manager messages table type.
    (Refer IF_WD_MESSAGE_MANAGER).
    loop at lt_msg into ls_msg.
        MESSAGE ID 'DEMO' TYPE 'E' NUMBER '139'
        WITH liv_id INTO es_messages-message.
        es_messages-id         = 'DEMO'. "Mesage class
        es_messages-type       = 'E'.
        es_messages-number     = '139'.
        es_messages-message_v1 = liv_id.
    or
    if ls_msg-type eq 'E'.
    lv_str = "Success ful'.
    endif.
    es_message-id = ls_msg-id.
    es_message-message = lv_str.
    endif.
    Maintain the messages in the Se91.
    By defalut as per the message type the framwork handles
    the Icon.
    But if you want some specific icon  to be displayed then you
    need have your own table that shows these meesages with custom icons.

  • Using java.util.logging Properly

    Hello,
    I have implemented java.util.logging in my application by creating a kind of "wrapper" class that I call for handling logging. It doesn't extend the logging classes, it just provides an object with helper methods that I can call when I want it.
    public class LogCleanerLogger {
        private static final String cleanerLogfile = "logcleanerlog%g.txt";
        private static final String loggerName = "LogCleaner";
        private Logger cleanerLogger = null;
        public LogCleanerLogger() throws IOException{
            this.cleanerLogger = Logger.getLogger(getLoggerName());
            cleanerLogger.setUseParentHandlers(false);
            FileHandler logFile = new FileHandler(getCleanerLogfile(),10000,1, true);
            logFile.setFormatter(new SimpleFormatter());
            cleanerLogger.addHandler(logFile);
        public void writeLogInfoMessage(String message){
            cleanerLogger.info(message);
        public void writeLogWarningMessage(String message){
            cleanerLogger.warning(message);
        public void writeLogErrorMessage(String message){
            cleanerLogger.severe(message);
    // getters and setters
    } // end class    This all works quite happily and I can log any information I want. Except for one thing -- my log directory ends up with the log file (logcleanerlog0.txt) and a list of what appear to be temporary logs, e.g. logcleanerlog0.txt.1, logcleanerlog0.txt.2, and so on. Each increment of the number corresponds to a log file that has progressively less information in it that the previous one. At the top level, the unnumbered log, logcleanerlog0.txt, has all the logged information in it.
    I cannot make out, from reading the API and other documentation, how I can get rid of these other files, which appear to me to be temporary files used in the construction of the top level file.
    Can someone help me by explaining the mechanism for generating these files and either (a) how I can get rid of them altogether or (b) how I can arrange for them to be generated in a temp dir, while keeping the main log in the present directory (application root).
    Or perhaps there is a "better way" (that is equally as easy, of course ;-).
    Thanks.
    mp

    are you sure you cannot use the classes from a newer
    version. You can put those classes in your own
    directory. If there ar some other classes that need to
    be from the newer version, you can include them, also
    in your project. It is important that your project
    directory to be placed in the classpath variable
    before the jdk jars.
    (this solution might not work)I doubt that is worth trying.
    First, although it probably does not apply in this case, you are not allowed to distribute part of a JVM. So you could never use this solution in a commercial application.
    Secondly the Java API does change. And every execution path that might use the changed code would have to be tested. That is going to take a lot of work. Keep in mind that the logging api uses java.lang.String and java.lang.String definitely changed in 1.4 and almost every class in the Java API uses it.
