Annoying iTunes bug

I've come across an annoying bug with iTunes. This was introduced about 2 or 3 versions ago, and it still present in 7.5.
If you press F2 to edit the name of a song inline and press the 'Delete' key (not backspace), this deletes the character in front of the cursor and completes the edit (as if you pressed return). It should not complete the edit!
Has anyone else come across this problem? I'm using Windows XP. I'm not sure how to report this problem to Apple, but I'd like to see it fixed in a future version. It definitely worked about 3 or 4 versions ago.
Cheers,
Neil

My iTunes does as you say, I never noticed it before. The problem does not occur when you edit in get info.
There is a feedback form if you feel like telling Apple.

  • Unbelievably annoying iTunes bug STILL in iTunes 9 =(

The ONE thing I was looking forward to most in iTunes 9 was a bug fix to a very, very annoying issue that I've sent in time and time and time again...... and the bug is still there!
If you type in a search scope in the iTunes player, and use the mini player (previously by clicking the green + icon, now by selecting the Mini Player option under View - another problem I have with iTunes 9 but that's for a whole new topic), and then hit the forward (skip) button a few times... all of a sudden music from your entire library starts playing. The search field is cleared.
How hard would this be to fix??? Come on, a big, revolutionary break through iTunes update and this crippling bug from iTunes 7 is still there?
    Yeesh.
Anyone from Apple care to comment? I need a fix for this yesterday.......

Anyone from Apple care to comment?
Sorry, but Apple engineers do not participate here.

I just tried it and the problem did not occur for me. I did a search for a particular artist which turned up a list of 56 tracks, started the list playing, switched to the miniplayer, then clicked the skip button repeatedly. The search never cleared and the main library never appeared. So it doesn't appear to be a bug that affects all installations, anyway.
Perhaps it's your library file that's at fault, not iTunes itself.

  • Interesting Logic  iTunes bug?

    Hello all,
I have been trying to overcome this interesting problem the last few days. I have a great mix I've been working on for some time now, and when I bounce the file, everything seems to go fine. When I play the file in Finder, it sounds great, just how it should. As soon as I click and drag that file into iTunes, about a minute and half into the tune, it starts to sound... shaky. That's the only word I can use to describe it. Its not exactly "phasey" but its a mid point between choppy and phasey. Anyone else have this problem? This is brand new for me, and perhaps its an iTunes bug?
    Thanks,
    Brian Armstrong

    Hi Brian,
I'm still on Panther, but never had that problem or knew about it.
If I get some information on it, I posted to you.
    Cheers,

  • Video of an iTunes bug when purchasing music already purchased....

    Hi Apple iTunes,
I sent customer support a description of the problem, but it's difficult to actually describe what happens in an email.
So... this time I made a video of the problem. Please feel free to share with iTunes qe & dev team.
I just published the video to YouTube. The title is "iTunes bug" and the tags are iTunes, Apple, Rockit
And this is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMuzUnqR-10
Hope this helps - it's much easier to actually show the problem than to try to describe it. If you would like me to make the video private to a specific YouTube user account for iTunes customer support, let me know and I am happy to oblige.
    Best,
    Gary

Hi Gary, welcome to Apple Discussions.
In summary the "bug" you are describing is this:
You can make a purchase from the iTunes store, which if you don't backup somewhere, it is possible for you to lose, either through hardware failure, loss, theft or an inadvertent sync.
The terms and conditions of the iTunes Store, set in part by agreements made with the various rights holders of the copyright material, permit a single download of each purchased item which you, as the end user, are encouraged to back up at the earliest opportunity. iTunes is no different from Amazon and other online digital resellers in this respect. There are stores which do permit subsequent downloads but it is not the standard model, at least with regard to media. Mobile Apps from the iTunes Store can be downloaded multiple times and it may be that over time the music industry will adopt the same model.
When using an iPhone or any other iDevice to makes purchases you should transfer these to an iTunes library as soon as possible and, further, you should also back up this library and and all its content.
In the event of an accident involving loss of data, e.g. a hard drive crash between purchase and backup then most stores will, if you explain the circumstances clearly and ask nicely, be prepared to allow a repeat download of the lost items, particularly if you are asking for one or two items rather than everything you've ever purchased. However there is no obligation for them to do so and while some users have had entire collections replaced that level of help will only be offered once, if at all.
If it matters to you, back it up...

  • EXTREMELY annoying itunes volume

My itunes volume goes up and down for no obvious reason during playback. Help?

I doubt it's an iTunes bug or there'd be a lot more reports and yours is the first I've seen. It's more likely to be some issue with your set up. It sounds as if you have something in your login items that is launching iTunes and requesting access your firewall isn't expecting. I'd start by checking your login items and any iTunes plugins you may have installed.
    Best of luck.

  • BIGGEST iTunes bug!! Really annoying!!

Okay, so I got this really annoying problem. Actually two. First is that I am using iTunes 9.2. So the first problem is this. I would import a song, with these ID3 tags for example:
    Title: Till I Collapse
    Artist: Eminem
    Album Artist: Eminem
    Album: The Eminem Show
    Genre: Hip-Hop
    Track: 18
So then I modify a few things like these:
    Title: 'Till I Collapse
    Genre: Rap
    Add an album cover.
I click on OK and just how it is supposed to work, the track info changes, and the album cover appears. I close iTunes, open that file. Right Click, choose properties, and look at the tags. THE TAGS DID NOT CHANGE. The genre is still Hip-Hop, the Title does not have an apostrophe before the Till I Collapse. Worst of all, the album cover does not show when I do tile view. I delete the file from iTunes library and import it again. It shows the old unchanged tags. Biggest problem.
Then a second problem hits. It somehow started showing that I got files missing. I click on locate other files from the library and it said that I am missing 119 files. The folder are still there, the files still there. To make it worse, the new songs that I have added using iTunes 9.2 that were missing have been reset back to the original tags. Now I gotta change them and gotta online and find the album covers again. Pathetic.
Edit: What is interesting is that all the missing songs that are shown now are the ones that I added using iTunes 9.2.

iTunes not actioning your changes is usually a sign that you don't have write permissions for the files in question. iTunes appears to accept your changes and may even update the display to show them, but is unable to write the changes out to the tag. It will not report this as an error. When you go back to the file the original tag will have remained unchanged and iTunes will reveal the old data.
Not sure about the second one, but let's guess that it's an extension of the first one. If your change would have resulted in a new filename, e.g. you change the artist, album, track name or number, then iTunes may have updated the database to point to the new location, but then failed to actually rename the file, again without generating an error.

  • ITunes bug? Rating stars won't click-drag left-right anymore

The latest iTunes patch (v10.1.0.54 running on Windows 7) seems to have an annoying bug: When I'm rating a song, it immediately takes my initial click, regardless of whether I hold down the mouse button -- whereas I used to be able to click in the area where the rating stars are, hold down the mouse button, and then drag out the stars to the rating I wanted, e.g. 4 stars. Now, however, iTunes ignores the fact that I'm holding down the mouse button and sets the rating at whatever position I initially click, e.g. 1 star.
The reason this is a super-annoying problem is that I only ever listen to smart playlists that filter out songs with low star ratings. So now as soon as I click a song to rate it, if I happen to initially click less than a 3-star rating, it immediately disappears. After I'm finished cursing at the computer, I have to go find the song under my general Music Library and re-rate it so it will show back up in my "smart" playlists. Grr.
Incidentally, I was able to drag the stars as normal one time -- but other than that one instance, it has not worked at all since the most recent patch. Please, Apple, please please please fix this bug. It's causing me a serious headache.

UPDATE: This bug only affects iTunes configured to allow half-star ratings.
I normally have my ItunesPrefs.xml file configured to use half-stars, with this line:
    <key>allow-half-stars</key>
    <data>
    dHJ1ZQ==
    </data>
After testing removal of the line, the click-drag on whole stars works normally. So it appears this bug exists only for those who only use half stars.
Is there any hope of Apple fixing the click-drag problem when half-stars are enabled?

  • Adding picture to mp3 files in iTunes Bugs found!

There is a bug when you adding picture to lots of music in an album. Which you when you finish adding the picture, some of them changed the picture...but there are some not changed. Those not changed picture mp3 files are all bugged, the bug is which your music will be repeating at the first few sec. Its kinda annoying! Need to delete the whole mp3 file away...
Please help to contact Apple about this bugs and fix it quickly! Thank you.

I was having the same issue with a few (not all) .m4k files on a NAS -- in my case the problem was something with file attributes/permissions (I'm using Windows 7).
ITunes could not change the actual file (rename/move to keep organized, add artwork, etc), though Windows would update the file date when I did attempt these things. Permissions seemed fine for the files, but the fix was to simply change an attribute and hit 'Apply' from the file properties window (right click file in File Explorer...Properties).
Specifically, most of my files had the Archive attribute checked, which I just unchecked and hit Apply. The issue wasn't the setting since all of my files have this attribute set and most can be edited by Itunes, but by changing the attribute, it fixed whatever weird issue there was with iTunes altering the file.

  • ANNOYING iTunes Stall Network Popup

I am SICK & TIRED of complaining for the last several versions of iTunes about this Bug in both Windows XP Media Center and now in Vista Ultimate.
Every time I play the iTunes radio, and the network stalls, iTunes pops up and tells me about it. When this happens, my curser is no longer in the program I am working in (Word, IE, or other) and I have to use my mouse to get my curser back into the program I was working on when I was interrupted by iTunes. At times, I spend more time attending to iTunes than working. WHEN WILL THEY FIX THIS?....IT IS ANNOYING!!!!!!

The problem is not that the network stalls. The problem is, that when it does stall, iTunes and the stalled network message pop up and interupt what I am doing. My curser is no longer in the program I was working on. I have to use the mouse to get back to my program. Sometimes I spend more time with the message, than with my work.

  • Address Book - iTune Bug

    Hi Everyone,
I'm using iPhone4, latest iTunes, and Mac 10.6.5...I think I have found a bug and don't know how to go back...
I copied a contact group in Address Book, as in having duplicated contact groups, after syncing with my iPhone by accident, I go back to Address Book and successfully deleted the extra duplicated group, but it still shows up in iTune, and now I MUST sync both groups and it's quite annoying, I went back to tried to backtrack my steps to see where exactly is the bug, now I end up with 2 untitled groups, and 2 Family groups that I must sync up with.
I guess my question is, how do I reset/erase Address Book so it would reset iTune all together, perhaps I should just start over...or is there an easier way to accomplish this?
    thanks a ton,
    Peter

I also had a simmilar issue. Empty the group you want to remove, then install in the iPhone Contacts Duster, run it, and then it will be removed from the iPhone. Then, in iTunes, the group will not be visible again.

  • ITunes bug updating iPod through proxy

This kept me busy for a couple of hours last night!
iTunes, running on a Mac, can download music and make purchases and look at your account using a proxy. However, it can't update your iPod. If you try you get the annoying message:
iTunes iPod software update server could not be contacted
I resolved it by moving to another network without a proxy, but it caused pretty major irritation.
It should be an easy bug to fix.

Fixed by not using a proxy. If you have a proxy, then you can't update your iPod through iTunes - and, because that is the only way you can do it now, you are stuck!

  • Two annoying iTunes problems

I've noticed two iTunes problems that are quite annoying; one of which has been there for several versions.
The first, which I have just noticed since iTunes 10, is that when modifying the information for several mp3s at the same time (eg., an entire album), the new information won't stick to one of the songs. For me it doesn't initially happen when I start iTunes but after I've changed about 3 albums' information, it starts and then is repeatable for every change. This means the work takes twice as long since I have to enter the information again so that the other song gets the same info.
The second problem is that when I start iTunes and the external hard drive where my songs (not library file) is located, and then start the external drive, any songs added to the library will be saved to the local drive and not the external drive. iTunes can see the external drive since it's able to play songs from it. There is also no message nor a way to see file path as a header option.
I'm glad they fixed the bug where the songs in an album would show up as separate albums.
Has anyone else had these problems? Any work arounds?

The second problem is that when I start iTunes and the external hard drive where my songs (not library file) is located, and then start the external drive,
Fire up the external drive and make sure it is ready and mounted before launching iTunes.

  • ITunes bug - Sync not working, not recognising free space on iPhone

After doing the latest iTunes update, I went to sync my iPhone 5 and got this error message, "The iPhone "X" cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes library (additional 3.24 GB required)."
However, I have 23GB left of free space, and there is nowhere near that amount of content to sync. It appears as though its not recognising the free space. I think it could be a bug in the latest iTunes update. Anyone had the same issue? Know of any fixes?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. You said that you have 23 gigs left of space, but that you're trying to sync over 38 GB? Can you give me a separate number of how much space is currently being used on the phone and how much information it says will be on the phone once you've synced? that's the number that it gives you in the capacity bar before you hit 'apply'

  • Annoying font bug in EM

    Good morning,
I am pretty sure this isn't the right place to report bugs but, since I do not have a Metalink account, hopefully someone that is an Oracle paying customer will do what I cannot.
EM has a simple but very annoying bug: it does not use a fixed font to display the output logs (of a job for instance). This results in output like this: (which looks even worse as a post in the forum than it does in the EM window)
    >
File Status Marked Corrupt Empty Blocks Blocks Examined High SCN
    1 OK 0 13301 88325 1458980
    >
which gives the impression that there are 13301 corrupt blocks in the file examined (not the kind of thing a DBA wants to see). I doubt I have to point out how cumbersome reading this unformatted output is.
However, using a fixed font, the very same output would look like this:
File Status Marked Corrupt Empty Blocks Blocks Examined High SCN
1    OK     0              13301        88325           1458980   which now shows that there are 13301 empty blocks (much better news than before). The problem, as we all know is, EM is using a proportional font when it should be using a fixed font such as Courier New.
This trivial little bug substantially subtracts from the usefulness of EM to review logs.
Thank you for reporting this to the powers that can make it right,
    John.

    Dear 440bx - 11gR2,
    Unfortunately i have no idea about the problem that you have experienced. However;

People here can only help you based on their previous experiences but they simply can not post, paste or share the articles of the Metalink.
Please bear in mind for next time but i have the feeling that you already know that issue, don't you? :)

  • ITunes Bug - iTunes changed video dimensions

I can't seem to figure this out:
    Used Handrake 0.9.1 to create m4v movie file at 853 x 478 H.264, AAC
Finder shows the dimensions at 853 x 478
Quicktime shows the dimensions at 853 x 478
However, iTunes has the dimensions at 1011 x 478. What is going on here? How can that be possible? Of course, now I can't get the file on to my ipod or touch at this size.
Anyone have any solutions? I am trying now the feature in iTunes to covert the movie to play on an iPod. Do you think that will work?
Is there any other work around?
