ANSI graphics / glyphs in terminal?

Hi.
I've setup the Terminusmod font set from AUR and also added /usr/share/fonts/local to xorg.conf
But I cannot figure out how to display the ANSI graphics.
I'd like to set up a cool PS1 but I cannot seem to display the glyph characters, instead I get '????'.
This is is the same for the color table shell scripts that I have tried.
Can anyone point me to a Wiki page or help me fix this?

there is also a script kicking around called space-invaders - that uses ansii with color. i've modded it on my machine, to make a bash greeter. (ie: i have it execute in .bashrc)... i don't have a link off hand, but if you search the arch forums for .bashrc ~ you will probably find it, and lots of other cool bash scripts, some of which might be exactly what you are looking for (or give a good example on how to do it).

Possible to redefine function keys via Ansi ESC sequences in terminal?

If it is possible, I would be be very grateful if somebody could be so kind as to show me a couple of examples.
BACKGROUND:
I want to reconfigure my function keys in terminal,via ansi-escape-sequencenses from
a script, before invoking the "screen" utility, to make it less cumbersome to use.
It's really nifty, if you want to see som manpages, without ending up with a zillion of terminalwinwindows, and you can name the windows too, so you can easily see the difference between
terminfo and bash for instance, - but the keypresses for invoking screen is quite cumbersome.
I will try do it by ansi-sequences, but I haven't managed to do that yet.
I want to store other keypresses, like [^A"] on functionkey F2 for instance.
I have no intention to restore the keys, as i just close the window when I'm finished using screen.
I have configured my function keys in terminal, and I think that writing new values for them in the defaults database, and be able to use the new configuration from within terminal is a little to much to expect.
If anybody has a solution not including ansi sequences, I'm open for that as well.

Thank you. That wasn't what I had in mind, but thats what I'll go for, as I can't seem to figure out how to send and ansi escape sequence that does it, and creating a new terminfo file with the new settings, exporting it, and and creating a new subshell is just too much work. "Screen" runs fine now, with some function-key bindings.

the following prgm has been written in the vi editor...it has been named hello.cpp

Alternate Terminal App

I would like to access some old BBS sites via telnet but the problem is Apple's Terminal app is very basic and doesn't handle ANSI graphics well. Can anyone recommend a program that is easy to use and would allow me to access BBS's via telnet?

You could look at iTerm. I've used it a bit and like it. I don't know if it would be any better for BBS sites, though.
Also, look at these postings and read through the suggestions there. Something there might work.

Connect with ssh graphically

I want to connect to the university network using ssh client via the terminal. It connects fine, but what I need is to have the graphical user interface shown not only the commands. Is there any way I could connect graphically by the terminal or other programs.

This forum is for questions about Apple Remote Desktop, Apple's software for managing networked Mac systems, and hence not the best place for your question. I'd suggest asking in the Mac OS X 10.8 forum; you'll be more likely to get suggestions there. Note that you'll need to know and state what graphical interface, such as XWindows, the system you wish to connect to will support before anyone can offer useful suggestions.

Mac-to-Unix (SCOANSI) terminal emulator

I am having a tough time trying to find a decent Mac-to-Unix emulator. I know there's got to be a few options out there. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
I'm not sure what you mean by "Mac-to-Unix emulator." These days, the Mac pretty much is Unix. But if it's specifically SCO-ANSI support in a terminal program you're looking for, you might try dataComet. I've never heard of it, but it's about the only thing kicked up by Google.
The only other suggestion I can think of is to see if you can get xterm, which comes as part of X11 for OS X to emulate the SCO-ANSI terminal. The X11 installer is on one of the CDs/DVDs that came with your Mac.

System Monitoring / Administration asking for logon id

Each time I click on, "System Monitoring / Administration" in DSWP, a dialog box pops up asking me for a username and password. I've tried using the local system admin password, SAP*, my own SAP logon id, the J2EE_ADMIN user, etc.. but the dialog box just keeps popping back up. This doesn't happen under any other tab (i.e. Early Watch). If I hit cancel, I get the error below:

When it pops up for a logon details, please check below to which system is it connecting? Then the communication user which is being used in both the Managed and Managing system will be locked. After unlocking the user in the Managed system the issue will be resolved.

Archlinux in Twinhead e10

Hi everyone.
I got a Twinhead e10 laptop recently and decided to install Archlinux (the pre-installed Neoshine distro was too slow; had to replace it).
I installed Archlinux previously on my PC and on another laptop without major problems, but I ran into display issues when installing on the Twinhead e10. The laptop has a full-screen display of 1024x600, but I can't get the display to work normally using the installation steps from the Beginner's Guide. After installing LXDE, the desktop size was bigger (like 1024x768, 1024x800, etc) than the screen's display size, which causes parts of the desktop to be offscreen. This only happens in graphic mode (normal terminal mode seems okay).
What should I do? I tried searching the forum relating to Twinhead e10, but found none.

You should mention what graphics card it has, because the official webpage does not speak of this.
Note you might have to specify your DPI in your .Xsession file, that's at least what I had to do to get the correct font size in LXDE.

Solaris 8 x86: Webstart launcher causes reboot

My x86 PC has:
- Elitegroup K7S5A mainboard
- AMD Athlon K7 XP 2400+ Socket A thoroughbred CPU
- AmiBIOS
- 256 MB SDRAM
- 2 Hard Disks with 40 GB each
There was a resource conflict caused by SiS chipset. However, with a DCA floppy where the ata.bef file was patched, I was able to install the Solaris 8 x86 system successfully.
During installation process, on the question whether there is a network connected to the computer, I checked "No". This is because my network card is not detected by the system and I will investigate on that later.
Now, when I boot the system, the graphical system is coming up, but shortly after that the graphical system is terminated with the following message:
The Webstart launcher has terminated unexpectedly.
The Webstart launcher will restart following a system reboot.
Is there any idea about this error?

Did you configure the video card to use the "VGA" black&white driver?
B&W video isn't supported with the Webstart installer. You need either a 8-bit pseudo-color or 24-bit
true-color video mode. The workaround is to install in text mode, bypassing the configuration of the video
card when you install from the "1 of 2" CD.

Looking for a cli audio visualizer from moc or alsa output.

i'm looking for a simple cli-based audio visualiser that takes output from alsa or moc.
it should be light on resources (projectm looks silly and dated), even a graphic equaliser using terminal colours would do fine.

Styling Ranges of text

Hi,
I'm having problem with the TextArea- and/or
RichText-controls in Flex. I can't find any way to change the
background color or individual lines or characters in the control.
I've tried to apply styles to tags in the htmlText-property. But no
luck there.
Is it even possible to do this in Flex3?

SICF service - error code 404

When I am trying to test the service iin SICF it prompt the following error, but the service already acivated. Can anyone help me how to resolve this issue. Service already activated, but while testing I am having issue

please i have i have to servers DEV and QAS and i installed solution manager on QAS
i have configured rfc from qas to solman and to dev and also added solman to the domain,my domain is qas
my problem is that how do i now monitor my dev and qas from solman
when i execute solution_manager and navigate to operations and then solution monitoring i only see only system overview----current status and nothing is displayed under...
and on the status i see SW-no alert assigned to the software and HW-no alert assigned to the hardware

[Solved]Strange piping issue..

Sometimes when I try piping commands, I simply get a "command not found" even though the commands are correct for sure.
The commands will work when I remove the space after the pipe... It's really annoying and it has happened to me on different distributions, so it's not just Arch. I managed to get a fantastic example just now and this time I thought to myself "This time, I'll HAVE to figure this out!!!"
So, see this example below. I even got an error message, which I think hasn't happened before.

Here you go. But I don't think it's really environment specific, since I've had this occur in Ubuntu with full Gnome and now I'm using urxvt with screen. I think I've actually seen this happen in actual shells. I've always had bash though. Oh well..

Streaming videos over home network (KDE)?

What do I need to be able to stream videos over home network in KDE?
I tried to do it with ssh, both graphically and by terminal (Network>AddNetwork>ssh) and it didn't work. It tried to download the file. I was reading this is some kind of bug in the KDE.
What else can I use to stream videos? Samba? Avahi?

IMO, it would be best to abandon SSH completely. Its going add undesired overhead to this project.
