Any better option for email than iCloud?

I've endured iCloud for long enough. Apple keeps promising to get it working, rebranding MobileMe as iCloud, but still delivering a badly flawed product.
I've never had such an unreliable email service in all the years I've used the internet, which goes back to the days of bulletin boards before the internet was available.
I've had large numbers of emails deleted to oblivion, emails disappear then reappear, and yesterday 400+ emails retagged as "unread".
Now people are ringing me to say emails sent to me are bouncing back. Even the unsolicited discounts and extensions of service offered by Apple don't make up for such an unacceptably shoddy service that is just unreliable.
Does anyone with similar experiences have suggestions for a better alternative email system?

Paid systems offer higher reliability and retention than free. Your choice.

Other options for emailed itunes gift card?

I received an itunes gift card via email. Unlike a physical gift card, it does not have a redemption code. Just a 'redeem' button.
I don't want to redeem this code. I would like to gift it to someone else or perhaps sell it. But I need a physical card with a redemption code.
Apple says my only choice is to redeem it to my itunes account. I didn't want to ask the purchaser to request a refund.

thank you for your reply. i know you could stream in between computers. i guess i just want one device to do everything and i am torn as to whether or not to buy the basestation. i guess the odds of a newer one coming out with the music feauture in the next few months is probably way beyond slim to none!

In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.

You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
1. Open iTunes on a computer
2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.

apologies for obtuse question. Reunion is apparently no longer available from App Store. Family Tree Maker is now available for MAC but is not getting good reviews. I have used both. FYM on PC and then switched to Reunion, because FTM was not available in 2008 when I got my Mac.
Now I note that Ancestry is in cahoots with FTM so am tempted to switch again but put off by the poor feedback.
I thought that Reunion was also available for Iphone but not FTM??

Any further options for fixing a network extender with flashing red sys light?

I've been using my network extender without any problem for a few years. Well, except it always had stopped working on occasion (maybe every 6 months) and I would have to toggle it back and forth between open access and managed on the Verizon site to get it working. That was fine, but this time it's been stuck on a slowly flashing red sys light. The power, gps, and wan lights are all solid blue. Eventually it will seem to start over with the cycle of leds but end up again at all blue except a slow flashing red sys light.
That was months ago and I've been struggling with it ever since with no luck. I tried calling support a couple of times but could never navigate through to any appropriate option for network extenders. Both times the automated system couldn't figure out what my issue was and hung up on me.
I tried power cycling my cable modem and router. I've tried the open/manage setting change on the My Verizon page for the extender. I've verified my router settings, though no equipment has been changed. I even tried assigning an IP to the network extender and configuring the correct ports for it (found a list of the port numbers somewhere else on this site). I've of course tried leaving it off for a bit.. 5 minutes, 30 minutes, 10 hours, and ultimately a month or so. Nothing makes a difference and I'm still stuck with a slow flashing red sys light. It's frustrating as I general manage only 1 signal bar even at best in the house or around the yard. It's hardly usable even though the Verizon coverage map shows solid coverage all over my house and neighborhood.
Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Did the network extender simply die? Is there any way to diagnose that for certain?

I just really wish they would have the courtesy to post on here, Facebook, Twitter, whatever, wherever, but to just let us know that there is a problem, they are aware of it, and are working to fix it.
For a communications company, so far I have not seen that they have any communication skills.

Is there any better way for updating table other than this?

Hi all, I need to update a row in the table that require me to search for it first (the table will have more than hundred thousands of row). Now, I am using a LOV that will return the primary key of the row and put that primary key to DEFAULT_WHERE property in the block and execute query command to fetch the row that need updating. This works fine except that it require 2-query-trip per update (the lov and the execute_query). Is there any better way to doing this? This update is the main objective for my application and I need to use the most effective way to do it since we need to update many records per hour.

Thanks Rama, I will try your method. Others, how to query row instead of primary key? I thought that querying primary key is faster due to the index?
BTW, what people do if you need to update a table using Form? I have been using the LOV then execute query since I first developing form. But I am building a bigger database recently that I start worrying about multiple query trip to dbms.
FYI my table will have up to million rows on it. Each row will be very active (updated) within 1-2 weeks after it creation. After that it will exist for records purposes only (select only). The active rows are probably less than 1% of all the rows.

Unable to share slideshows in iPhoto, share option all greyed out except for email and iCloud

Completed a slideshow share 11/28 via iPhoto to Facebook
Created a new slideshow to upload to fb msg users however all fields in Share were greyed out except for email.
While working with Apple support and waiting on them I went into iCloud preferences and unchecked a share with selected users and found then that under share iCloud now appears along with email however all other options for sharing are still greyed out.
Please help as support is saying that is the way iPhoto now works

i want to find out lets say Ticekt no range from Variable1 - Variable 2, are all ready existed or missing from my ticket master table which is having a million records and the no grows timely.
For example i want to find out in range 30000 - 50000
if any missings it should give missing number are
34567
45678 etc . etc.
i wrote a for.. loop and im checking one bye one from ticket master table using select count(*) from ticket_master where ticket_no = var, which is time consuming and server becoming slow when i issue this query. my ticket master ticket_no is indexed.
any better idea advise please..

Does anyone know if there are any other voices for the Voice Over utility? Does Apple offer any? How about free ones?

Apple offers no other voices at the moment, though there are some queued up for Leopard when it comes out in the spring.
I haven't found any free voices either, though there are some Unix ones that would need to be compiled and installed—not a process for the faint-hearted.
Voices from Cepstral are available in a number of languages, and are comparable in quality to the Apple voices. They cost $29.99 apiece, and integrate quite well with VoiceOver, although there are occasional stability problems.
Other voices are available from Acapela as part of their Infovox iVox package. They work best when integrated with the VisioVoice package from AssistiveWare. This costs $249, but there is a special deal at $185 until 31st December 2006. The voices alone are available through AssistiveWare at $199 for US English, with again a special offer price until 31st December of $149. This gives you 5 high-quality (HQ) voices, which are a great deal better than any of the Apple or Cepstral offerings, and 2 high-definition (HD) voices, that sound less lifelike but can cope with special characters, and distinguish between upper- and lower-case letters.
In particular, the British English voices (slightly more expensive, but can be added separately) are superb quality—the best text-to-speech on any platform anywhere. I can also confirm the quality of the French voices, but am not qualified to judge the others!

Option for email notifications not on website

Hi there,
I just set up a shared reminder list between my wife and myself (on our respective icloud accounts), and I get an email notification whenever she checks something off the list. I want to turn this option off, and everything I read says that the option is available at www.icloud.com in the web-based version. Within reminders, when I click on the icon to see my sharing etc., there is no checkbox for email.
Is this where I should be looking? If not, how do i turn these off?

IMAQ Resample performance. Any better choice for 50% downsample? (average 2x2 - 1 pixel)

My video source is a 4 Mpixel (2k x 2k resolution) USB3 camera. This is displaying a live image OK in Labview at 45 fps using only 20% CPU. So far, so good.
I added a "IMAQ Resample" block to downsize this to 1024 x 1024 image. That works with almost no additional processing time if I select "Zero Order" interpolation (eg. plain subsample to value of nearest pixel). However, I want to average each 2x2 block (4 pixels) in the input image into 1 output pixel. I *think* that is the effect of selecting Bi-Linear interpolation. Doing that works, but takes about 45% of CPU. I want to do some other processing but am worried I will quickly run out of CPU time and start dropping frames.
Is there any better way to do this simple 50% downsize (2x2 average), that would take less CPU overhead, or is this the best way?

In NI-MAX (Measurement & Automation Explorer) select your camera. Under the 'Acquistion Attributes' tab do you see an option to change the Video Mode of your camera to a different resolution? If your camera supports it, it would be more efficient to change the resolution there.

You are correct, the Bi-Linear option uses a more intensive interpolation technique which is why it is more taxing on your CPU. I hope this is helpful.

Hi all,
For some time I have not been happy with the quality of our finished chroma key output. I am using a green screen, professional lighting and camera operator, as well as Color Smoother, 8 Point Garbage Matte etc etc
In a previous life I used After Effects with its KEYLIGHT plug in - which seems to be one pretty powerful Chroma Keyer. While I am happy enough in FCP - I just don't feel MOTION comes near AE.
I am committed to FCP permanently but was thinking of going back to AE over MOTION as a lot of our work is green screen based.
Any thing I am missing before I blow the cash on AE?

Absolutely. If you're getting AE from a bundle and you need Photoshop and Illustrator then you'll get a good product with AE, but it should not be the goal. Shake is now just a cheap and still one of the best compositors out there. Bare in mind that Jackson used Shake to composite Lord of the Rings, and King Kong. Nobody can say that was an OK job, if only they had a better program for the compositing. You will have to learn a new interface type. AE, Final Cut, Motion, and Photoshop are all layer based apps, and shake is node based, much like Color. It's a great way to work once you get it, so spend the time to really familiarize yourself with the style. I highly recommend Shake.

Why doesn't my iTunes on Windows 7 have any synchronizing options for my new ipad.

this is all I have got from my Itunes. It does recognise that I have connect my ipad to the itunes, but it does not give me any synchronising options as it is supposed to have such as videos, musics. contracts and so on. Can some body helo me please ?
