    I tried the "Tutorial - Getting Started with JSF" located on http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe1013jdev/jsfintro/jsfintro.htm#t6, but the last part "Creating a conditional navigation" is not complete.
    There are 2 issues
    1. The return values in the code blocks in step 9 and 11 do not match with the given example code.
    2. In step 12 I am missing the way to bind this message component to returned message from the login.
    Could you please correct the code parts and add the message binding piece?

  • Shortest path to get started with JSF project

    Hello,
    I am looking for a path of least resistance (or effort) to get started with JSF. This is really an add to the "JSP due diligence" thread that I started but with a specific question. At this time, I am primarily interested in implementing an MVC framework. The components of JSF seem interesting and I think will be valuable to us, but it would be too much to bite off at this time. So, could I implement JSF with my JSP pages (with code to use the backing beans but my own html components) and then later add JSF components as the next step? Perhaps this is non sensical but appreciate you saying that so I know how much effort is involved.
    Thanks!
    Priya

    Trying to use JSF without the JSF components sounds like it would be harder. Much of the benefit of JSF is the binding of bean properties to component values.

  • Not able open any apple website (starting with the name apple) on any of the browser(safari, Opera..etc) on my MacBook pro

    Hello Everybody,
    Few months back I have upgraded my OS to latest Mountain Lion version.
    I am facing a unique problem for  last1 month. I am not able to open any of the apple website starting with the name "Apple" such as apple.com, http://www.apple.com/mac/, http://www.apple.com/ipod/ etc but I am successfuly able to open http://store.apple.com/ (as you can see this is not starting with apple but starting with store).
    I have reseted my safari, tried different browser such Opera, but not successful.
    Can you please provide a solution for this?
    thanks
    @di

    Hi I have same prob on a client's Macbook Pro and iMac both on 10.5.8 (but problem there before update). Have deleted all cookies (and preferences and cookie database etc), history etc but problem reappears after 3 or links are clicked on www.apple.com site. If I clear cookies problem goes away again only to come back. Have tried creating a new user account - same problem! tried archive and install of OS X, same problem still. tried two different internet connections - same problem. problem not limited to web browsers either - iTunes has issues and client had his iPhone lock itself because he could not connect to apple to verify the device when he installed a software update. Major headache. Any ideas would be great!

  • Getting started with JSF 2.0

    I'd like to start learning JSF 2.0, however, before I begin I have a few questions I'd like to clarify:
    1. What are the differences between the reference implementation and MyFaces ?
    2. Can jsf 2.0 with reference implementation or MyFaces be deployed on any servlet container, i.e. tomcat/jetty, or must it be deployed only on a Java EE compliant container?
    3. How difficult is it to create custom tags?
    4. Is it possible to use *Faces+ (i.e. PrimeFaces, RichFaces, etc) with a javascript library like jquery or yui? Are any conflicts created by doing so?
    5. What are the biggest limitations/shortfalls (if any) of JSF 2.0?
    Thanks.

    1. What are the differences between the reference implementation and MyFaces ?They are two different implementations of the same specification. There shouldn't be any externally detectable differences.
    2. Can jsf 2.0 with reference implementation or MyFaces be deployed on any servlet container, i.e. tomcat/jettyYes
    or must it be deployed only on a Java EE compliant container? No.
    3. How difficult is it to create custom tags?Not too bad. Read the documentation.
    4. Is it possible to use *Faces+ (i.e. PrimeFaces, RichFaces, etc) with a javascript library like jquery or yui? Are any conflicts created by doing so?RichFaces already uses jQuery 1.3.2, so they are certainly compatible. However note that RichFaces doesn't yet support Facelets 2.
    5. What are the biggest limitations/shortfalls (if any) of JSF 2.0?That'sa very large discussion indeed.

  • Starting with JSF

    I have a hands on knowledge of JSP and servlets,and a very limited knowledge of JSTL.However i wont call the knowledge of JSP and servlets to be in depth as it is in case of JAVA for me.
    I need to know if i should go strait for JSF as an alternative to JSP and JSTL or should i first go for an in depth knowledge of JSP and JSTL.

    I think part of it depends on the complexity of your application. If it's just a very simple app JSP/JSTL would be fine, but if it has a potential to grow you might want to consider JSF. Either way, JSTL is just a set of commonly used and stable tag libraries where JSF is a full MVC framework. I think your decision is more a question of whether you want to use a framework or not.
    If you are looking to grow and learn as a developer, JSF would be a good thing to learn. Take some time to go through the JavaEE tutorial. http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/tutorial/doc/. It does a pretty good job of leading you through the various EE technologies.
    Have fun!

  • Can't open files where the name starts with a number

    On our network server, we have some folders where the files are numbered. Example:
    1 - Memo
    2 - Agenda
    3 - Report X
    4 - Report Y
    5 - Report Z
    We have 5 Macs in our office. Everybody can read these files fine except for one person. On her computer she can't open any file that starts with a number and gets the below error message. How do I fix this?
    All our Macs (to the best of my knowledge) are setup exactly the same since they were purchased at the same time late last year.

  • GetHeaderFields Not Returning Cookies Starting with _

    Hi,
    I have been trying to write a program that can interact with various web pages, and have up till now been using Apache's HttpClient. After encountering some random problems, I realized that the HttpClient wasn't registering cookies starting with an underscore. I have started to write my own "HttpClient", but I can't seem to get the information of any cookies that start with an underscore.
    I am currently using getHeaderFields().toString() and a regex (and I know my regex isn't the problem, it has been tested) to separate the cookies from the rest of the headers.
    Any ideas?
    On second thought, after checking out the data being sent to java with Ethereal, I think firefox may be making cookies up, or is getting different info from the server. Still, any ideas?

    Since JNI works in 1.6 and your code (not JNI) doesn't then the immediate conclusion would be that you have a problem somewhere in your code (nothing to do with JNI.)
    The fact that C/C++ code runs one place really means nothing if it fails to run in another except that the first place never experienced the bug which the second place demonstrates that it does exist.

  • SM30 blanks field contents when input starts with exclamation point

    I found one thread about this, but it didn't seem to help - so I'm asking again  I have a table that can be maintained with SM30.  One particular row for one particular column needs a value that starts with an exclamation point
    The original article said that the exclamation point is a special character and they described an input process which didn't work in my case.  One thing I will say is that the change in this is recent in that it used to just happen in our production system but not test or development.  We just did a database copy and now the issue is in our QA system.
    So how does one put in a value into any field that starts with an exclamation point using SM30?  Using an ABAP program is not an option as this table is designed to be maintained via SM30.  It is possible we can request a value change, but I'd rather not go through that hassle.  The field cannot contain any leading blanks either so that is not an option - the field has to contain the exact value that is needed.  I suspect that in the original article the person ended up with leading blanks in their data and they didn't notice it since it was just one leading blank ( they were trying to store a single ! in the field ).

    Hello Bruce,
    This is not restricted to SM30 only. It applies to all the screen elements.
    Actually '!' is a reset character which will reset the value of the screen element (read this [http://help.sap.com/saphelp_470/helpdata/en/d1/801c54454211d189710000e8322d00/content.htm]).
    I tried turning this attribute off for the SM30 screen, but no use. It wont allow you to save the data
    Looks like you have to ask to change the data or use the technique you had found in the thread.
    BR,
    Suhas
    PS: You cannot turn off this attribute for a key field though.

  • If I copy the "lcds" folder, Tomcat starts with socket errors

    In the documentation it is said that when you create a new server-side application, you can start by copying the 'webapps/lcds' folder. I did that but then, Tomcat starts with some socket errors:
    [LCDS]SocketServer 'my-rtmp-SocketServer' failed to pre-validate desired socket settings for BindSocketAddress: 0.0.0.0:2038
    java.net.SocketException: Unrecognized Windows Sockets error: 0: JVM_Bind
    [LCDS]SocketServer 'my-rtmp-SocketServer' failed to start.
    flex.messaging.LocalizedException: SocketServer 'my-rtmp-SocketServer' cannot bind to accept client connections on port '2038' because another process has already bound the port. Please ensure that multiple endpoints across all applications  are not configured to use this same port.
    Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks,
    Borek

    What is happening is that you are getting a port conflict for the socket-based NIO and RTMP endpoints used in the channel definitions in the services-config.xml file of your new web app. The issue is that you have endpoints bound to the same port  in the LCDS web and in your new web app.
    You can deal with this one of two ways:
    Option 1: In that services-config.xml file, search on "RTMP" and "NIO" to find the channel definitions and change the port numbers to something slightly different than the ones used in the LCDS web app.
    Options 2: Move the LCDS web app out of the picture so it doesn't get loaded, and just use a template for future web apps. If you aren't using it for any of your development, there is really no reason you have to load it.
    I'll add a note about this to the documentation that talks about using the LCDS web app as a template.

  • Java Applet HelloWorld "Getting Started With Applets" example not working

    Hi there,
    It's been ages since I ran my Linux CentOS boot of Linux but I am going through the official oracle java applet tutorials, just every time I try and run the "Hello World" applet in Firefox 17.0.3 and I am running the Iced Tea thing for java applets.
    Every time I try and run the example from the following code:
    import javax.swing.JApplet;
    import javax.swing.SwingUtilities;
    import javax.swing.JLabel;
    public class HelloWorld extends JApplet
      // called when the user enters the html page:
      public void init() // keep apps within the init() function very small as per the http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/deployment/applet/appletMethods.html
        try{
          SwingUtilities.invokeAndWait(new Runnable()
            public void run()
           JLabel myLabel = new JLabel("Hello World");
           add(myLabel);
            } // end running the application
          }); //end of swing invokeand wait
        } catch (Exception error){ // end user running the app in page
           // System.err.println("GUI didn't work on initial run");
    }It keeps bringing up the error "Start: Applet not initialized" I did google that basic error and from what I found I should consult the JavaConsole, I know the console was removed from the Firefox menu quite a while ago. So went to find a way of loading it using the IcedTea one but it keeps bringing up a load of errors in even trying to run that.
    Is there anyway of sorting this out? I mean I have even tried installing the one on the oracle website, the plain JDK but nothing seems to work.
    Is there anyone that can help me get applets working? I was even going to go as far as to reinstall my distro but I want to avoid that as much as possible.
    Thanks and I look forward to any replies,
    Jeremy.

    in the Getting Started with Java DB tutorial they
    tell u how to set ur "DERBY_HOME" (what is that?).
    once i press enter after typing this command:
    set DERBY_HOME=D:\Java\Java
    Phonebook\javadb in my command prompt do i get
    any message or does it just go to the next line?type env or set or whatever in the command line to see what your environment variables are set to
    they also tell u how to set ur "JAVA_HOME" (what is
    that?). The Java installation you want to use
    in their example they give u this: set
    JAVA_HOME=C:\Program Files\Java\j2se1.4.2_05but in my java folder i have jdk1.6.0 and jre1.6.0
    but no j2se1.4.2_05, so which 1 must i choose?It's up to you. I'd go with 1.6
    also once ive done this: set
    DERBY_HOME=D:\Java\Java Phonebook\javadb this
    set JAVA_HOME=D:\Program
    Files\Java\jre1.6.0 and this set
    PATH=%DERBY_HOME%\bin;%PATH% and then type
    sysinfo to verify that the variables were set
    correctly i get these errors: 'D:\Java\Java' is
    not recognized as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch file and '""'
    is not recognized as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch file any help would
    really be appreciated because this is really killing
    me!you need to set your path variable - so something like:
    set PATH=C:\Program Files\Java\j2se1.4.2_05\bin
