Any way to Synchronize Metadata?

Is there a way to sync the metadata from one image to another? Or even better in batch? You know, Something like the button in Camera Raw "Synchronize Settings", which is a big time saver for me.
For example: I've tagged an image for a project, down to the chapter the image will appear in, but then either art or editorial wants to use a different image. I'd like to apply the metadata from that tagged image to the non-tagged image.
Yes, I could make templates, but it seems silly to make tons of little templates per project.
Thanks!

Andrew
The only thing I can think of is selecting the image with the metadata you want to sync using the little fly out menu in the metadata template and first use the create template button and hit OK without using the name save and the select the image (or multiple images) you want and use the same fly out menu to add the template to the files. Since you don't save them with a name the default 'nameless' is over writing itself and thus easy to find.
But you could bring your wish to the feature request forum, it is a good idea to select the images you want to copy to using the first with the data and like sync settings sync the file info panel! :-)

  • Any way to synchronize without creating file on server

Is there any way to setup Dreamweaver (DW) MX 2004 and 8 so
that the Synchronize feature does NOT need to create a file on the
server? For my website, I have individual folders under the
document root folder that I give write access to various staff in
my organization who then use DW to maintain their web pages in
their folder. I do not give them write access to the document root
however as I don't want them accidentally deleting someone else's
folder (the server is Unix running Apache).
The problem with all of this is that they can't use
Synchronize in DW MX 2004 (and version 8 as well I believe) because
DW creates a file in the document root folder on the server to
determine the date/time on the server, but I don't give them write
    access to this folder.
Is there any way to setup DW to get the date/time on the
server without needing write access to the document root of the
server (for example, maybe specify in each copy of DW where to
attempt to create the file)? If not, then PLEASE, PLEASE consider
changing this for the next version of DW.

    David,
I just tested this with Dreamweaver (DW) 8 and it does NOT
    work.
If I make the document root (i.e., the top folder on the
server that corresponds to my website) unwriteable by a particular
user, they can't synchronize. I tested this by creating a new
sub-folder on the server and putting a test file in that folder
(called test.html), created the same sub-folder on the users local
machine in their site definition and then tried synchronizing. Only
when I give them write permission to the document root folder can
they synchronize - otherwise, DW 8 says that there is nothing to
    synchronize.
Any ideas what's going on? As I stated previously, I don't
give write permission to the document root folder for the majority
of the users on my web server, I just give most of them write
permission to specific sub-folders underneath the root folder. As
it stands now, none of them can use synchronize which is one of the
key features they would like to use in Dreamweaver.

  • Any way to synchronize two NI-9234 devices?

I'm pretty sure it cannot be done without having a common analog input and determining the delay by cross correlation but I wouldn't mind to be proven wrong.
    1. There are no external clock inputs for the device.
    2. Also the timing loop is weird.  In my case for a nominal 100ms acquisition time the loops times jump between 60 and 120 ms with an average over 100 samples of .097.
The NI-9123 is a nice device to remotely locate but it seems to lack the ability to synchronize with other DAQs.
    Mark

    Hi Mark,
Thank you for using the forums.  To answer your question, NI-9234 devices can be synchronized using a cDAQ chassis.  The timebase, sync pulse and start trigger are shared through the back plane of the chassis.  These can be shared automatically by using channel expansion in your DAQmx task.  That is to say that you choose multiple channels on multiple cards and have them all be in the same task.  Here is a great article that explains how to synchronize multiple DSA cards within the same chassis.
For question 2 could you elaborate a little more about your timing loop, are you actually using a timed loop, or a while loop with a timing mechanism to control it?  I am assuming that you are using a Windows based OS, if that is the case it is generally not a good idea to use timed loops because Windows is a non-deministic OS and could actually decrease performance.  Please let me know what you are using and if you could post some sample code that is exhibiting this behaviour that would be great.

  • Any way to add metadata to a jpeg without resaving the file?

I was surprised that opening a jpeg and looking at meta info, if I just added a word. PS ask to resave the file at what setting. Too much of a nuisance. Any ideas thanks! I know I could go back to the tiffs or psd, but these are watermarked already

    thanks, will remember that.

  • Any way to lift/stamp position or other metadata?

I have a heap of shots from a recent trip to Canada/Alaska, most of which are stamped with Lat/Long data from a GPS. But using two cameras and one GPS means some of my images are missing the data.
Is there any way to lift the position metadata from one image and stamp it onto the others? The metadata lift tool seems to ignore it, unless there is a workaround someone can point to.
BTW... A big thanks here to the Aperture team for the new "Show on Map..." command. Takes me back to the spot with a click of the mouse. For anyone who's ever gone back to your shots a few years later and wondered where exactly you were, geotagging together with Aperture 2's Google Maps integration is a godsend.

I have recently scanned about 750 slides from the last 25 years, puuuh.
Cause I took notes, where most of my photos were taken, I wanted to add GPS-ifo to be able to lookup im map etc.
I am using PhotoInfoEditor (http://www.mmisoftware.co.uk/), free and comes with a map interface, batch support etc.
IT's really poor that Aperture (using 2.x) is not supporting geotagging when having photos in a project. Any plug-in developers around? Should be easy and linakble to the show-in-map feature.

  • Is there any way to filter an AD group for Synchronization?

Project Server 2010 , the AD synchronization fails every week because of users who have left the organization.
Is there any way to filter the AD group so that only active users are picked up into the application?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks Ricardo.
The problem is that if a user leaves, his id is usually reused.
Eg. John Smith leaves the organization, his ID JSmith is reused.
But the original record is in the AD group, so it fails to recognize the new user say Jack Smith.
The error seen in the logs is typically:

  • Hierarchical metadata - any way to import?

After having switched to Lightroom 2 about 18 months ago, I decided to jump back in to Aperture when v3 was released. I love the ability work with video in Aperture, as both of my DSLRs (Canon 5D2 and 7D) shoot video, and I've always preferred the organization and workflow in Aperture over Lightroom. Lightroom, however, just "plays much better with others" - it works together with Photo Mechanic (my preferred download, rename, and keyword application) very well, and can export to just about any other application for editing where Aperture is pretty much restricted to one defined application (though there are tricks to get around this).
The big issue for me, though, is that I have been applying hierarchical keywords in Photo Mechanic for several months (separating keywords with "|"), to over 30,000 images I've taken over the last 6+ years. Lightroom loads the hierarchical keywords properly, but Aperture ignores them and just reads the hierarchy as one long, unsearchable string. I've been able to import a text file with my keyword hierarchy, but Aperture won't use it when importing new photos.
In the end, there are just too many headaches with switching back - it's a shame, as I really do like the way Aperture does many things, and the issues seem relatively minor in the grand scheme of things, but they are the kinds of things that really slow down my workflow and cause a ton of extra work, and I just don't have time to fight all of those battles right now.
Does anybody know if there is any way to get Aperture to import photos with hierarchical keywords? If I could get past that hurdle, the others might not be so daunting.

LIke Russ said, the copy of the entire folder structure is similar to creating a camera archive. This copy or archive is treated just as if it were a camera card - in particular, "leave in place" is not available, and you have the option go import just parts of clips if you want.
so technicay even though they reside in a hard drive this is like importing from camera, as opposed to "import from file".
I Will try to describe how I handle my media. I hope this will help clarify things a bit. I am not saying thus is the way to do things, but it is my way.
I keep archives of the camera cards, which I then erase and reuse.
I import clips from my camera archives which I store as external media (copying to a folder of my choosing instead of into the library). These movie files, plus other files that I get from other sources, can be later imported and used in other libraries using "leave in place".
And all of this of course needs to be regularly backed up.

  • How do I change the way the title/author appear and is there any way to remove pages on EPUBs?

    Hi all--
I am having a really hard time--I am trying to transfer EPUBs from my Win 7 comp to my Nook Tablet. I bought a lot of books from several non-BN sites because they were lots cheaper and were also sold in bundles--but the site was messed up and sent the books in PDF form rather than EPUB.  PDF files won't read like a regular book on my Nook Tablet, so my friend offered to convert them to EPUB for me.
Most of the books turned out fine, but some of them now have a few extra pages at the beginning before the cover image and the correct title and author are not displaying--it seems to instead show the filepath where the file was saved on m friend's computer (C:\My Computer/Documents and Settings...etc.)
So, what I would like to do is be able to edit the EPUB files so I can delete the extra pages at the beginning so the correct cover image will be displayed and to be able to change the file's data sp it will show (and be searchable by) the correct title and author.
I am new to all this, so I appreciate any help you can offer.  Thank you SO much for your help!!
    --Jamie
P.S.  Having the title and author show up correctly so they are searchable and appear in the correct place on my Nook Tablet is the top priority--correct cover pages would be nice aesthitically, but it is not that important.
****ALSO--does anyone know of an app or anything for the Nook Tablet that would allow PDF files to be read just like an EPUB/B&N=purchased book?  Currently when I open a PDF, it shows the page in TINY print--you can use pinching to zoom in, but then the file enlarges so it is bigger than the screen, making it very hard to read.  I can't figure out any way to enlarge the text but still fits the page like an EPUB does, so I'm wondering if there's an app that would do that--it's hard because you can't try apps before you buy them and I can't teel if they will work from the descriptions.

For sideloaded content the nook pulls the metadata from ePub file itself.  I would suggest looking at a program like Sigil or Calibre that will let you edit the metadata in the book to make it appear like you want.
For the PDF vs ePub - No, that's the way PDFs work (think of them as graphics, not text), wheres ePubs are Web Pages - so  no you can't them to behave exactly alike without converting the files.

  • Is there any way to map tables in rutime dynamically?

    Hi
Thank you for reading my post
My question is mostly technical and i want to know whether with EJB 3.0 (JPA) can do this or not.
we have an application which we are going to port it to EJB 3.0 from plain JDBC.
In our application, we have tables which are created after we complete the code,
Tables are created in customer environment based on thier requirement. we store all details about tables in our metadata system. this details contain table structure and business roles for that tables
So, We have some tables which we know all of its details but we do not have access to application to recompile it or do mapping procedure again.
And we need to store records into those tables and also perform EJB Query on them.
What i want to know is:
-Is there any way that we could map them dynamically in runtime?
-How we can query them if we can not map them programically?
-What will be the query result? it is a collection? if it is a collection, then what are collection elements?
    Thanks

    Thank you for reply.
We have some tables that are added to our system after we developed the core application.
Now we need to access those tables using EJB 3.0 .
We can not predict what kind of tables will be added, when customer add those table they also provide vast amount of metadata that our application need.
before we think about moving to EJB 3.0, we used JDBC to handle CRUD on those new tables based on metadata that customer file into our core application.
Now that we thought to move to EJB 3.0, we do not know how to handle those new tables that cutomer define.
We can not predict what kind of table they will create, so we should find some way to :
Create all required EJB 3.0 artifacts from
    -A database Table
-and business metadata that customer file into our core application.
when we had JDBC, we could create dynamic SQL statement using table name and those meta data. but now with EJB 3.0 we can not find a way to do this because EJB 3.0 need some java class to be present before we could map anything.
    Thanks

  • Is there any way in Adobe Reader to limit printing to only one page at a time?

We have a large piece of internal knowhow in the form of a pdf document that we don't want users to be able to print in one go as it would risk the document leaving the premises. We are quite happy with users using print screen for single pages, but that doesn't really produce readable results.
So ideally we'd like users to be able to select print, but when they do it should only allow 'print current page' or just print the first chosen page instead of the whole selection. For instance, selecting pages 123 - 145 should only print page 123.
I've looked in to various areas already. We are delivering this document through a secured version of Adobe Reader via Citric application streaming, so are able to customise the config.js file any way we want, however I've looked through the Java Reference Guide and haven't been able to identify anything that might satisfy our requirement this.
I've also looked in to Document Actions such as "Document will print", but again (perhaps due to a personal lack of programming knowledge) am unable to find a way to fix the print option to a single page.
    Any ideas/suggestions much appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    Kaan

The sponsor is not happy for low res printing either. As an organisation we should be looking at DRM more closely, and we've added to the requirement with this problem. We are also going to look in to the option of attaching metadata and scanning that at our exit points (e-mail, printers, usb's, etc.) so that users have free reign internally but can't send sensitive documents out. Obviously it's all going to be very expensive!
    Cheers for the respones guys.

  • 8174 RMAN: Is there any way to backup a backupset like in 9i

    Hi All,
Currently we are using 2 database versions for development, one
being an Oracle 101202 database and another being a Oracle 8174 database.
I am currently looking at implementing a backup strategy using RMAN.
Is there any way to backup a backupset which has been created using Oracle 8174 from a flash recovery area to an external backup tape?
If not, then to do this do we need to manually use 2 channels when backing up a Oracle 8174 database, one to a flash recovery area, and another to a external backup tape (Tivolli being used).
I know this is not a problem with Oracle 10G databse as we can use the command
"backup backupset all" using the 10G rman version.
Can anyone help us in regards to this.
    Cheers
    Rodney

Well we are not actually using RMAN currently, but are in the planning stages of implementing a RMAN backup/recovery strategy for use with 8i business databases and also 10G metadata repositories (for app server 10G).
Currently what I am planning to do is store 8i backups using RMAN onto a network disk as well as onto a Tivolli tape storage medium. The disk backup will be kept for like 1 week at a time.
I am also proposing to store 10G FRA onto a network drive, and then use RMAN to backup the database to tape and disk. Not sure how FRA interacts with RMAN, and will need to do more research regarding this. This can be done using the command backup backupset ....
Note that 8i backups will be separately stored in different network drives to the 10g FRA.
I will also use 8i RMAN for 8i databases, and 10G RMAN for 10G databases for backup/recovery.
Both backups will be using incremental level 0 weekly backups with differential incremental level 1 backups for weekday activity. This is still to be decided on though in regards to retention periods etc.

  • Any way to keep files updates within folders?

Hey guys.. I am experimenting with iPhoto, and had a few quick questions.
I just imported a folder, containing the folder structure I use to organize a specific set of pics on my hard drive. They're reference/inspiration shots for my own photography. I was stoked to discover that each folder became an "event".
However my library is "managed", so while they weren't deleted from their location, the shots I am looking at inside of iPhoto are now contained inside the iPhoto Library file. Is that correct?
As I'm always adding files to those folders, and occasionally moving them around manually, my main question I have is concerning whether there's any way to keep those "events" up to date with what files are in the actual folders?
I'm not opposed to having a 2nd REFERENCED library File for this sole purpose.
    In a Managed Library:
Is there any way to add a file to a folder manually using the finder, and have iPhoto recognize that it contains a new file and update itself when I view that "event"? Or can I update it manually at least? Like a "refresh".
    In a Referenced Library:
    - Can I keep the "event" up to date with changes to the referenced folder?
    In Either case:
    - If I delete/move a file from a folder via the finder, will the "event" be corrupted, or "missing" a file?
    - If I delete/move a file a file from an event via iPhoto, will the file be deleted in reality, or just the reference/management of it?
    - If I find that some of my iPhoto "events" could be combined into one for ease of navigation:
    a) Can I do this? How?
b) Will that change the folder structure of my original ile?
    Finally,
    - If I go with 2 libraries (Managed for personal shots, and Referenced for other peoples shots), how do I switch between libraries? (I'd want the Managed/Personal shots to open upon launch by default.)
    Cheers! Thanks in advance!
    Ben

You're not quite getting what iPhoto is, what a managed and referenced Libraries are.
iPhoto is a Photo Manager. It replaces the Finder for anything to do with your Photos. It's your go-to app whenever you want to add, delete, view, manage or whatever your photos.
A Managed Library means that iPhoto manages the actual files. They are copied to the Library package on import.
A Referenced Library means that you manage the files. Then import them. After that you never access the files again. It's all done via iPhoto.
So, what you're trying to do - syncing a folder system with an iPhoto Library - is unnecessarily complex. Either use the Finder for your Photo or use iPhoto (or similar apps, like Aperture, Lightroom etc)
However my library is "managed", so while they weren't deleted from their location, the shots I am looking at inside of iPhoto are now contained inside the iPhoto Library file. Is that correct?
    Correct.
As I'm always adding files to those folders, and occasionally moving them around manually, my main question I have is concerning whether there's any way to keep those "events" up to date with what files are in the actual folders?
You can do this with Automator, Apple Script or with an app like Hazel: http://www.noodlesoft.com/hazel.php
But... why would you? iPhoto is a photo manager, why are you using the Finder for the job as well. Rather than update those folders, why not just import the updates to iPhoto?
I'm not opposed to having a 2nd REFERENCED library File for this sole purpose.
It would make no difference. All it does is make more work for exactly zero benefit.
    In a Referenced Library:
    - Can I keep the "event" up to date with changes to the referenced folder?
See above. But remember that every new import means at least one new event, so you'll need to consolidate events after the import.
    In Either case:
    - If I delete/move a file from a folder via the finder, will the "event" be corrupted, or "missing" a file?
Yes. In a Managed Library you never delete anything via the Finder. That's all done from within the iPhoto Window. (See what I mean about it replacing the Finder?). In a Referenced Library you need to delete the images from iPhoto first. Then you delete them from the folder structure. (See? More work/no benefit)
    - If I delete/move a file a file from an event via iPhoto, will the file be deleted in reality, or just the reference/management of it?
In a Managed LIbrary the shot gets moved to the iPhoto trash. Empty that and it's moved to the system trash. Empty that and it's gone. For Referenced see above.
    - If I find that some of my iPhoto "events" could be combined into one for ease of navigation:
    a) Can I do this? How?
b) Will that change the folder structure of my original ile?
You can consolidate Events simply by dragging one to another. You can move photos between event susing Flagging and so on. No, the files on the disk are never moved at all regardless.
Again, the location of the files on the disk makes no difference as you never access them anyway.
For help accessing your photos in iPhoto see this user tip:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4491
If I go with 2 libraries (Managed for personal shots, and Referenced for other peoples shots), how do I switch between libraries? (I'd want the Managed/Personal shots to open upon launch by default.)
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
Here's a post that describes why Referenced Libraries are a bad idea
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3062728?tstart=0
    A General comment:
Deep breath. This is simple and you're making it very complex.
Use one managed Library. You can easily separate your personal work from these inspirational photos with a keyword. Events are a very limited form of organisation. iPhoto gets its real power from Albums and keyword. For instance:
I use Events simply as big buckets of Photos: Spring 08, July - Nov 06 are typical Events in my Library. I use keywords and Smart Albums extensively. I title the pics broadly.
    I keyword on a
    Who
    What
Where basis (The When is in the photos's Exif metadata). I also rate the pics on a 1 - 5 star basis.
Using this system I can find pretty much find any pic in my 50k library in a couple of seconds.
So, for example, I have a batch of pics titled 'Seattle 08' and a  typical keywording might include: John, Anne, Landscape, mountain, trees, snow. With a rating included it's so very easy to find the best pics we took at Mount Rainier.
    File -> New Smart Album
    set it to 'All"
    title contains Seattle
    keyword is mountain
    keyword is snow
    rating is 5 stars
Or, want a chronological album of John from birth to today?
    New Smart Album
    Keyword is John
Set the View options to Sort By Date Ascending
    Want only the best pics?
add Rating is greater than 4 stars
The best thing about this system is that it's dynamic. If I add 50 more pics of John  to the Library tomorrow, as I keyword and rate them they are added to the Smart Album.
In the end, organisation is about finding the pics. The point is to make locating that pic or batch of pics findable fast. This system works for me.

  • If meta data LUN is totaly destroied , is there any way to rebuild the data from the video LUN

If meta data LUN is totaly destroied , is there any way to rebuild the data from the video LUN ????

What happened to your metadata? Are you sure the metadata is gone?
In theory, file carving could be attempted on the data LUNs, but you would need a tool that understands how Xsan lays out data across LUNs in a stripe group and hope your fragmentation isn't too bad. I doubt such a tool exists, but if one does it almost certainly is not publicly available. You should probably contact a data recovery service with experience recovering data from Xsan. Do that before you do anything else if this data is really important.

  • Is there any way to manually relink media in FCS?

We recently transitioned from NFS to AFP (Apple Filing Protocol) for our shared storage in our FCS environment.
There have been a couple of headaches involved, but it has been a largely smooth transition except for one problem.
A couple of our assets (some of the most important ones, naturally) had colons ( : ) in the filenames. This was fine for NFS - the backing store's filesystem could handle them. But AFP cannot since apparently OS X considers the colon an unusable character in file names due to its own directory requirements.
So we are left with a handful of assets that are fully annotated in FCS, comprehensive metadata, etc. that show the original media files as missing. The files are there - they were just renamed automatically by the system to replace the colon.
I am wondering if there is any way to tell FCS that the filename has changed since there is no possible way that I can change the filename back.
If I have to get my hands dirty on the FCS command line to accomplish this, I am not hesitant to do so. I just don't know how to go about doing it...
    A bit about my system:
Apple Xserve running Snow Leopard (10.6.3)
    Final Cut Server version 1.5.2
The backing stores are presented via AFP using Netatalk from a Linux-based storage array (I know this unconventional but it actually works quite well - except the "no colons in AFP or Apple native filenames" issue...)
If there is anyone out there who can shed some light on this, I would really appreciate it!
    Thank you all!

    Thank you for the clarification.
Indeed you are correct - the Netatalk documentation merely implies that the colon is a forbidden Mac OS character - not a forbidden Netatalk character.
Netatalk itself (at least in my case on Ubuntu 10.04) does handle the translation of the colon in a way that is comprehensible to Mac OS.
The colon was truncated to a double-quote (") when I attempted the rename on the Linux command line. After seeing this, I renamed the file again on the Linux command line to remove the colon.
When using the Mac OS command line (terminal), I was able to get the file to reflect a colon:
    $ cp ./file.mov ./file\ duration\ 10\:00.mov
While the Finder will not permit a colon in the filename under any circumstances (at least not as far as I can tell), the command line will permit it if you use the escape character (\).
In the Finder, the new file shows as "file duration 10/00.mov" but if you run an "ls" on the command line it shows as "file duration 10:00.mov" which is correct.
In Linux, it shows as "file duration 10:2f00.mov" so Netatalk handled the markup in such a way that it is able to present the correct filename to the Mac OS.
Despite the Finder/Terminal name mismatch (the filename having a "/" in the Finder display), FCS is perfectly happy, since it reads the filename directly.
And if you don't want to get your hands dirty on the command line, using a forward-slash (/) in the filename within the FInder does translate to a colon when you view the file from the terminal, as was described by slowfranklin above. (I am from a Unix background where the slash is a (sometimes the only) forbidden character, so I also used the command-line method just to see if it would work)
Thank you very much for pointing me in the right direction.
    Question marked as answered.
