Anyone else.....Mini 1000 - 1154nr "Internal Short"?

We're on the second netbook from Verizon.  The first one when you picked it up by a corner the sound got really scratchy and the volume went way down. You could get it back to normal by flexing the base or sometimes moving the screen up and down.  Mini #2 seemed fine, no problems with flex, but it's doing the exact same thing...the sound will be fine just sitting on the desk and then you here a little pop and it's really scratchy.  Moving the screen up and down sometimes brings it back.
Clearly there's something shorting out inside but Verizon insists that they haven't seen it before.  Since this model is so new, I wondered if anyone else can reproduce this problem.

Not exactly.  I'm a consultant and my client who owns the netbook decided to just live with the problem.  It's intermittent and the second one is definitely better than the first one.  Since he's mainly using it for email when he's out on a job site, I guess the audio isn't all that important to him.  So no, I'm not satisfied because there's clearly a problem and I'm not one to just let it go and live with it, but it's not my call.
Good luck to you, I hope your problem gets resolved.  Please do come back and update this thread.  Maybe I can convince my client to get his repaired under warranty if he's sure there's a fix.

  • Has anyone else noticed that Iphone 3G tray is larger than AT&T's sim card?

    Hello,
Just a brief history of my iphone to start. Purchased in December of 09 via Best Buy. About 3 months ago I started to have connectivity issues with the Iphone. I would not receive notices of people calling and my text messages would come 12-48 hrs later than when they were sent. I called AT&T first regarding the issue. They pointed the finger at Apple and said it was their issue, I felt that it was their issue. I blamed their 3G network for the issue, as well as stating that they do not keep their end of the bargain regarding the best 3G network. I threatened a class action lawsuit against them regarding the false claims of their cellular network in Wisconsin being available to my area. That aroused someone because before I knew it I was being told that I would get a new phone. I received the new phone within 5 days. The phone I received is no better than my previous iphone. Same issues as stated above, as well as searching for service, showing one bar with the edge symbol, and having the phone remove the edge symbol when making a call. It's ridiculous to say the least. So one of my questions is, can Apples hardware or software be the issue or is it a case of AT&T network being non compatible with Apples hardware or vice versa? Let me also state that its not just me with these problems where I live(Area code 53559) but others as well with the Iphone 3G. Here is the funny part, one of my friends has the 3Gs and his phone does great where I live, 4-5 bars constantly to my one or none. This brings me to believe that the 3Gs hardware is different some how? Antennae?etc. Is this true? I'm at my ropes end trying to get my phone to work like it should. I'm also exhausted dealing with the blame game between Apple and AT&T. If anyone has any answers or advice I would appreciate it very much. Regarding the Subject of this post, does anyone else's card come up short of fitting(Could this contribute to the connectivity issues?) the tray perfectly front to rear?

I'm not sure that I followed everything, but you got a replacement phone and continue to experience problems? It sounds like a logical move would be to have AT&T replace your SIM card. I would doubt that the size/fit is an issue, these things are a standard size, but replacing the SIM will have an impact on the network set-up that might be the root cause.

  • Since loading IOS 7.0.4, the images and letters/words on my ipad Mini are fuzzy and less clear. It appears the revised IOS has created this degradation to clarity and sharpness. Anyone else seeing this problem?

My ipad mini display, including letters/words, was crystal clear until the last software upgrade. Now everything is fuzzy and less clear. I'm reading many complaints about this on the Internet forums. Since I read a lot of books on my ipad , this is particularly irritating. Anyone else seeing this issue?

    Hi Fitz,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
I found adjusting the size, boldness and contrast settings on the iPad mini were very helpful.
Here is a link to the information in the iPad User Guide on page 112:
    manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1595/en_US/ipad_user_guide.pdf
    Large, bold, and high-contrast text
Display larger text in apps such as Calendar, Contacts, Mail, Messages, and Notes. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Larger Type, where you can turn on Larger Dynamic Type and adjust the font size.
Display bolder text for items on iPad. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility and turn on Bold Text.
Increase the contrast of text where possible. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility and turn on Increase Contrast.
I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!

  • My iphone 5 charger shorted out.  Has anyone else had this problem?

I was traveling in Australia when my iphone 5 charger shorted out.  Sparks and smoke came from
The charger.  Anyone else have a similar problem?

Not quite. Mine simply stopped working. Some swapping around of the cable, charger, and device finally fingered the cable as bad. Went to the apple store and they said it's probably shorted, and that this happens. My phone's just over a year old so they wouldn't replace it. IMO a passive device like this shouldn't fail unless physically abused. Whether it's a poor design or poor manufacturing quality, I'm disappointed.

  • My iPad mini won't work at room temperature.  I have to warm it up in my hands/arms for 2-3 minutes before the screen works correctly.  Anyone else have this issue or know a solution?

Two or three weeks ago, I had a cracked screen replaced on my iPad Mini 2 with retina display (32G).  It worked perfectly for 2-3 weeks, so I don't know how relevant the screen repair is.  Anyway, the iPad is currently running iOS 8.1.3.  I completely reset it because I want to sell it, but recently, the screen display started to have issues.  One afternoon I turned it on and the screen was a faint gray with vertical streaks that went away after I turned it off then back on.  That night, the screen would stay black when I tried to turn it on.  It was a different black to being off, though.  When I try to turn it on it changes to a brighter black, if that makes sense.  I can see a change in the shade of black, but there's no color or app icons.  The sound works even when the screen doesn't.  The only way I can get it to turn on properly is if I hold it in my hands/arms for 2-3 minutes.  I think the heat from my hands has something to do with it.  It's just weird that regular room temperature seems to be too cold.  We've had a cold winter in NY this year and my iPad may have spent 1-2 hours in my cold car the day this happened, but I can't say for sure.  Has anyone else heard of this issue or does anyone have a solution?

    I Also have this problem!!
In my situation, the screen simply started exhibiting the same symptoms a few weeks ago (early February) for no apparent reason.  At first I thought the screen was dead, but discovered the heat solution by accident.  Now I turn it on and keep it from going to sleep until I go to bed.  Thank goodness the battery is still awesome on this thing.
I bought it new and still has the original screen, I keep it at home (never below 62 degrees).  Coincidentally, this happened a day or two after the expiration of the warranty!!  Any help figuring this one out would be eternally appreciated.

i no longer have video capability on my ipad mini after downloading ios7. has anyone else had this problem?

Describe the problem. Won't show videos? Won't take videos? Or other?
Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

  • Mini Display Port behaving badly. Anyone else have this problem?

I have had an ongoing issue with a mini display to VGA adapter, every time I plug it in it becomes erratic over the course of use. It will lose signal and send the monitor blank if I go to remove any of the usb peripherals in the back of the unit. I have returned the unit to Apple 2x now and they have replaced the logic board 2x and the mini display to VGA adapter, yet this is still happening.
I have tried it with different monitors and cables etc, but this is still going on.
Is a mini DVI to VGA any more reliable?
Has anyone else had this issue

Thanks for the suggestion , but after an extensive talk with tech support and running through the usual troubleshooting regime we came to the conclusion that the best thing for all concerned is that Apple send me a mini DVI-VGA adapter. I am cool with that. No matter what combination of adapters and cables and monitors I plugged the mini into I kept coming up with the same results and my local guys had the same thing happen.
    Thanks anyway.

  • When I got a new iPhone5, I experienced short battery life, and system sofware issues were not the cause. The camera also takes a blury picture regardless of lighting and I have the black one. Has anyone else experienced similar problems?

What makes you so sure it isn't software?
The camera can be focused by take the point of focus on the touch screen.
If it is new as you said, it should be under warranty. Make a Genius Bar appointment or contact Apple with a repair request.

  • Well, in two weeks I have gone through 2 mini's.   The first had a 1 inch wide shaded zone top to bottom.  Apple replaced it .  Now, the replacement has started with white flickering lines at the bottom. anyone else exper. probs?

The Ipad mini replacement (the first had a 1 inch shaded band running down it - and Apple replaced it.  Now my new one has a flickering set of lines at the bottom of the screen.  I reset adn reloaded, powered it down and up and still there.  Seems likely to be a hardware issue - just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.   Nothing unusual - havre Mac Airbook, two other older ipads and iphone and all are fine - no issues charging or such.

You must be at the end of the bell shaped curve for device problems.  There's always someone who experiences this, and unfortuantely you are the rare user to be annointed by the gods of bad luck.
I read many Apple forums, and your story is indeed rare.  Just like the person who wins the lotto, there are those who play all their lives and never win anything, not even $1.00.  I'm sure you get the picture.  I had a similar experience many decades ago, only with a car (or cars).  Not fun and not funny.

  • Anyone else have sharp edges on ipad mini?

I just got my mini last week.  I am wondering why its not feeling right in my hands.  The edges where the glass meets the case feel a little sharp.  Like the aluminum wasn't deburred or the glass isnt sitting properly.  Anyone else noticing sharpish edges?  They are scuffing and cutting the cases I am using too.

There shouldn't be. I'd make an appointment at your local apple store and have them take a look at it.

  • Has anyone else had an iPhone 5 that's only been dropped once accidentally and smashed the screen? Mine has done that and as I don't have mobile insurance it'll cost a fortune to replace it through Apple!!

Has anyone else had an iPhone 5 that's only been dropped once accidentally and smashed the screen? Mine has done that and as I don't have mobile insurance it'll cost a fortune to replace it through Apple!!  I don't think the phone is fit for purpose as any other phone i've had has been dropped and been fine and surely they expect a mobile to be accidentally dropped at least once!!

Yeah, sad to hear of your accident:
If you dropped it on concrete- that is the hardest material and chance of damage goes up tremedously.  Actually you are fortunate not to have mobile insurance because then you have to trust your insurance provider to provide you with a quality replacement or repair.
Apple is always spot-on you know what you're getting.  They can always attempt to replace JUST the display on an iPhone 5 for $149 + tax is what I've heard them quote others. But they said it's $229 to replace your phone with another whole new iPhone 5.  Get the AppleCare+ because two of these incidents will only cost you $49 + tax in the future!

  • IPad 2 smart cover, mine is falling to bits and has stained my screen protector. Anyone else had the same problem?

iPad 2 smart cover. Mine is falling apart and has marked my screen protector with black lines. Anyone else experienced this?

Mine has worked fine.  What model do you have, the leather or the other?  I've read of others using screen protectors like Zagg absorbing some of the dye.  Of course considering the cost they are to produce ($12 is what I read for the leather) it doesn't surprise me some of the dye is coming out.  I have wiped my black leather down with high grade leather cleaner / oil and you can clearly see it on the rag.

  • Whenever I ask Siri to send a message to a contact, it will attempt to send it as an iMessage. This is a problem because it will attempt to send iMessages to contacts of mine which aren't even iPhone numbers. Is anyone else having this problem?

Whenever I ask Siri to send a message to a contact, it will attempt to send it as an iMessage. This is a problem because it will attempt to send iMessages to contacts of mine which aren't even iPhone numbers. Is anyone else having this problem?
So, this is a problem because when Siri attempts to send iMessages to those without iPhones it, of course, fails.
For example, if I say to Siri, "Tell my mother 'Hello.'" It will try to send an iMessage. My mother has an Android phone, so the iMessage just gets lost in cyberspace.
I use Siri quite often, this problem only occured about two hours ago.
Can anyone help me with this?
                   Thanks.

I had major issues with the iPhone 4s battery, however it’s resolved.
The tech who set the phone up at the Apple store did so with little training.
if you have a mobile me account. First go and move all your data to the cloud by going on your computer and logging in at me.com/move. The cloud has replaced mobile me, so there is no need for those two accounts
Also make sure that for any of your email accounts you set them up to fetch, not push. My tech person set them all to have the email servers push data to the phone. The new iphone4s antenna is extremely strong so it will continually try to access stuff that is pushed–***** a lot of battery life doing this. It makes it worse if you have exchange 2010 accounts. Something about changes made to exchange really suck battery life from devices that access such accounts.
turning of locator and the push notifications from facebook--they have a lot!

  • Is anyone else having the finish rub off of the keys on their macbook? I've had mine for about 6 months and several keys look like the finish is wearing through. I went to the local genius bar today and the techs said they'd never seen this before.

Some people have seen their aluminum uni-body discoloring due to body oils.  Go figure.
Normally putting anything over the keys/aluminum will hurt heat disspation, but you may need to use keyboard covers.
Or save up $500/year for new keyboards.
Neither is supposed to be a sarcastic answer.  Either one could end up being the solution.
    Good luck with it.
