Anyone Ever Have Trouble Starting Up MySQL?

Question

I downloaded Mac OS X 10.5 (x86, 64-bit), DMG Archive from dev.mysql.com and having a bit of a problem. When I click on the button, StartMySQLServer, and enter my password, all I get is the spinning rainbow wheel. I tried several times, but it's not working.
It comes up:
Error
Could not startup MySQL server
Reason 255
Is there any chance that the version I downloaded, and/or its specific mirror was faulty? Double checked my comp display, and it's 32 bit. Could that be it?

OK, that makes sense. Couple more questions:
Did you install the MySQL startup item from the disk image you downloaded?
Please post the results of this Terminal command:
ls -l /usr/local/mysql/
I'm most interested in the ownership of the "data" directory:
drwxr-x--- 25 _mysql wheel 850 Feb 2 19:08 data
Also, you should have at least one error log in MySQL's data directory:
sudo ls -lt /usr/local/mysql/data/ | grep err
Use tail on the most recent (the top one in the results of the previous command if there are more than one):
sudo tail /usr/local/mysql/data/errorlogname.local.err
