Anyone know any mp4 compressors? I need to compress a tv episode on a computer. Currently, it doesn't fit on the USB drive that I use to bring it from my one computer to another (different e-mail accounts though both mine).

Are these iTMS purchased shows?
Try ZIPpping the files, though I don't think it'll do too much. If it's purchased, you aren't gonna compress the actual video.

Anyone Know High quality Compressor Plugin that has Sidechain?

I want to sidechain a compressor, like the one in Logic, but I want a different quality than the Logic one.
I can't find any high quality compressor plugins that take external sidechains. Sonalksis has one, but it's got a specific character and is not very tweakable.
Metric Halo ChannelStrip is supposed to have one, but they have a post in their tech support area that says it's currently not working in Logic.
Anyone know a good compressor that takes external sidechain?
I know that it can be done with any compressor by using a complicated buss/aux setup, but I want to use 3 or 4 of these, and I don't want to setup a million extra channels!
And I'd really love to find a multiband compressor that has an external sidechain!

Logic 8 should have no problems in SL.
Use Software update to check if you've got the latest update for it (SU will only offer an update if it's not already installed).
Failing that, I'd start by uninstalling Logic and re-install from the DVD in case something got corrupted during the update.

I'm currently stumped in a project I'm doing and I know you guys won't do people's homework for them and I'm alright with that I mean how else are we going to learn but I was wondering if anyone knows of one or two similar examples/tutorials for the project I'm doing.
I would greatly appreciate the help since I haven't found anything for awhile and I need the time to focus on my Visual basic exam tomorrow morning.
Anyway the general gist of the project is
- that I have to make a program that allows the user to create objects (in my case Employee) in a vector (Company)
- search for an object in the vector and once located than assign expenses to the employee, expenses is another object of a different class
This part I have pretty much completed i think except for the expense bit
I need to different types of expeneses in a menu, I guess by case statements for
car expense (enters the kilometres travelled and they are entitled to a refund from the company of $$ = kms travelled * 50 cents)
travel expense (reimbursed fully)
research expense (reimbursed 50% of their costs)
I do need to do polymorphic programming which is what I'm having trouble with
- a method to reimburse the employee
- a method that calculates and displays a grand total for all expenses to date

Does anyone know any apps or programs where you can edit voice memos? i.e.- reduce the amount of static

hey
so i decided to record some friends of mine as a joke. i was using the voice memos app on my iPhone 6.. i thought i put the phone down close enough to pick up everything, but it didn't quiet work out as well as i hoped. i ended up getting more static than voice.. does anyone know of a good app or program where i can edit this voice memo. reduce all that static and raise their voices to they can be audible?

Years ago I had called MS Word through DDE, Dynamic Data Exchange, old technology, and created form letter passing address info from the database.
I used PowerBuilder to:
1. Open MS Word
2. Call Mail Merge with a template name (which had the tags to replace)
3. Passing the results of a query
Oh ya... we need HTMLDB to call MS Word on the client...
1. ) Anyone know how to bring up MS WORD - (Not Word Pad) on the client?
2.) Word had an interface, DDE, to send commands to Word.
I think I'm remembering correctly..

My Team uses MSWord mail merge with a 2 step process:
One: Build a report that contains the data you need for the Mail Merge and then export it to a CSV file.
Two: Export the mail merge template (which is stored in a BLOB) to the same directory as the CSV file. The template is set up to use the CSV file as its datasource.
It's a bit clunky but our users seem content with it.
Another alternative would be to search this forum for "Mail Merge". One posting (a year ago) shows how to do a mail merge using an RTF file in one step (after importing the RTF template into your APEX application). The only downside was that the RTF file has a 30K size limit (not a problem if you do not have to include a graphic like a logo).
By the way, I used to control the MS Mail Merge process directly from within VB6. The two step process above seems like a bit of a step backwards but it works.

Does anyone know any repair services that apple recommends?

I brought my computer to the Genius Bar and I was told that my hard drive has failed so I need to get a new one. There are a few other things that could be fixed, like the cd-drive, so the guy helping me told me the name of a company that I can send my computer to. They would then take a look at everything that was wrong with it and fix it for some flat rate around $300-350 or so. Does anyone know the name of the company that this guy might have been talking about? Btw it's a 2007 macbook and I wanted to get it all fixed and updated before I buy a new computer this summer.

Anyone know any good books?

Hi I was just wondering if anyone was familiar with any good admin type books that cover Leopard server . Though there is a lot of documentation from apple on their site, it seems kind of vague and doesn't always talk in specifics (eg. how to actually use Ical server rather than theoretically how it works).
Also these forums have been a great source of knowledge so thanks to everyone who takes part!
So does anyone have any recommendations or is there somewhere online where there is practical info?

Does anyone know any tips for editing video to display on an LED digital billboard?

I was just given a MOV file of a TV commercial they want to display on a digital billboard. It needs to be converted to AVI format.
They said when they tried to translate it to AVI, it looked terrible and they couldn't tell what it was.
They thought I might have better luck since I have Premiere Pro.
I'm a beginner with Premiere anyway, but I also have no experience with digital billboards. I have no idea what settings I should use or anything.
I think it's going to look pixelated anyway, just because that's what LED signs do. Also, the TV commercial is a night scene around a campfire, so that doesn't help.
I asked what company made the sign and they told me ICE and the software used for it is called IView, but I haven't been able to Google anything helpful from ICE so far.
So any tips, tricks or suggestions from anyone who might have previous experience with this kind of thing would be GREATLY appreciated.

OMG! I finally got the sign company's phone number and called their tech support and he was clueless! He didn't even know what a codec was!
All he knew was that the frame rate is 30, pixel matrix is 48 pixels high by 96 pixels wide, and WMV is actually a preferable format to AVI.
But I see WMV also isn't an option in Premiere, so I'm guessing that is also nothing but another container?
Maybe I should just export it to Quicktime and find some free translation software to change it to WMV.

After installing Lion, I am having an issue printing invoices etc from Quickbooks 2010. Anyone know any workaround since Intuit is saying that Quickbooks 2010 will not support Lion.

I recently installed Lion on my Macbook Pro. I have been using Quickbooks 2010 for all of my business accounting needs. However, I recently created an invoice which I tried to print and found nothing but a 'blank' screen with an OK buttong. After searching online, there are reports that this is consistent to what other people are getting and Intuit is saying that they are not supporting Quickbooks 2010 with Lion. Can anyone help? I really don't want to upgrade to QB 2011.

How can I uninstall OS X Lion and go back to Snow Leopard?
1: Copy your user file folders (Documents, Pictures, Movies, Music, not Library) to a external blank Disk Utility formatted HFS drive (not TimeMachine) and disconnect all drives. Make a note of your username and hard drive name. Write down any essential information like passwords stored in keychains and product serial keys.
2: Stick the 10.6 installer disk into the machine and reboot holding the c key down. Second screen in choose Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
3: On the left select the hard drive makers name of your internal boot drive (important) then click Erase and Erase... button (if you want to wipe the drive of all lingering data then choose Security Option>Zero all data) when choosing a name for the drive, use the same drive name as before.
4: Quit and install 10.6, then go through setup, reboot and use the same user name as before. Software Update, install programs from fresh sources (enter any serial keys) Hold Option and click on Purchases in AppStore to redownload (not Lion of course) and then finally return user files to their respective folders on the Snow Leopard drive.
5: If you have issues with iPhoto, you can right click on the iPhoto Library and "Show Package contents" and in there is a folder with all your originals. Copy them out and delete the iPhoto Library and reboot, restart iPhoto and it should be recreated, which you can then import your copied originals again.
Note: using the same drive and user name as before, returning files exactly into their respective Music, Documents and Pictures folders like before matches any pathnames some files like iTunes has to the location of your files. If not done, then exclamation points will occur in iTunes when you click on a song. The iTunes Library will have to be opened in Text Edit and all the partial pathnames "find and replace" corrected to repair.
Optional, but recommended.
Ideally it's best to first Carbon Copy Cloner the 10.7 internal to another blank external HFS drive (Disk Utility) before doing the above steps 1-5 as that way you have a copy of everything in case you missed something or you need to hold option boot from the 10.7 clone. The clone can later be erased and used as a 10.6 clone. Or reversed cloned back onto the internal drive or as many external drives as needed. (don't use a clone on a different Mac)
Clones are hold option key bootable, TimeMachines drives are not.
Note: The above steps are ONLY for Mac's that didn't come with Lion preinstalled. For reverting a factory Lion to Snow Leopard requires other methods.
