Anyone notice the Smart Guides bug in CS5?

ID CS5 has a Smart Guides bug when resizing frames to match the size of other frames. When releasing the mouse after the Smart Guides pop up showing the sizes are equal the frame size changes. When analyzing this it appears the frame does not resize to where the SmartGuides popped up but where the cursor is located. There is also jumpiness between the position of cursor and where the Smart Guides pop up. This behavior occurs vertically and horizontally. While some jumpiness still exist, it works reliably when frames are aligned. In other words, if a frame is resized to a point where two sides are aligned then the size of the frame does not change when the mouse is released.
I have verified the bug in both Windows and Mac versions of IDCS5.
None of the behavior exist with Smart Guides in ID CS4.
Is anyone else experiencing this behavior?

I am using a laptop, Mac OSX 10.5.8, with ATI Radeon X1600. The issue still existed wtih my Wacom tablet mouse and a Logitech mouse. I also just uninstalled the program and reinstalled it and the issue still existed.
This issue also exists on an iMac with Windows 7 running ID CS5 for Windows.
Are you using a Mac by any chance? The issue does not exist so much when the frames are aligned. So, if you are trying it out and Smart Guides creates a line connecting the two frames you need to move them out of alignment. Also, if your cursor is dead center over the edge of the frame all is ok. What it's really doing is snapping to where the cursor is and not to where the Smart Guides popped up. I'll be really surprised if you're not seeing it with a Mac.

Nothing to tick in the View dropdown list (View>Smart Guides)?
If not, you may start from the top of the following list.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

Smart Guides in CS4/CS5

I've been using Illustrator since version 8.0 and don't feel comfortable jumping over from version CS3 to CS4 or CS5, mainly because I find that "Smart Guides" (which is an option I relay on most of the time) have became less-Smart than they were in CS3.
I need total accuracy on may job, but somehow shapes do not snap the same way using smart guides as they did before. Can't tell exactly why this is but its an annoying thing! Don't know the reason why Adobe changed them in the first place they worked fine as they were.
First experienced this on CS4 and thought that this might be a bug that would be corrected later on but have noticed they the same way on CS5 afterwards.
Did anyone experience the same issue? Comments? Suggestions?

Basically, smart guides have been improved considerably. They are different from the old smart guides, though.

Smart Guides Bug??

I've been struggling with Tech support since May 22 over the problem with Smart guide not working in Illustrator CS6. Support has recorded my system twice during Connect meetings poked around in my preferences and accomplished nothing. I've added screen shots to Case on the support portal hoping there is a solution but Tech support always emails saying they tried to contact me but were unable. Basicly Smart guides are not showing the dimensions in Illustrator CS6 and leaving a screen artifact. I've deleted the preferences as tech support suggested, reinstalled Illustrator CS6 as tech support suggested and nothing seems to fix the problem. Smart guide work with Illustrator CS5 and Photoshop CS6. Both are on the same system as Illustrator CS6. My question, anyone else have this problem? Is it a bug? Tech support always tries the same old "let me review your case" and then proceeds to do nothing.

I'm having the same problem on my MacBook Pro 10.7.5. There's another thread on this at http://forums.adobe.com/message/4924146 but no one over there has a solution either. I've also filed a bug report on it, figuring the more people report the bug, the more likely they are to fix it. I sure wish they would fix this, because it's very annoying to not have these measurements when you're doing precision work. It's been seven months since you reported this and apparently no one has addressed the issue.

Has anyone reported the Slideshow clipping bug?

When I last posted this, I was told I must be doing something wrong. So, assuming I didn't quite understand what I was doing, I started over with some fres graphical images. Here's what I discovered:
When in Slideshow mode, Apple TV consistently, regardless of mode (720p, 1080i) will clip 36 pixels off the top AND 36 pixels of the bottom of any image it displays.
When parading by images, when you it is displaying the contents of a photo album, all appear 100% fine. When you select the "slide the images up in a layered display" they are all displayed 100%.
With the Ken Burns effect on OR off, Apple TV seems to reserving 72 pixels for possible photo/image sliding. Seems like a bug that if I turn off the Burns effect, it still reserves those 76 pixels.
I did extensive testing with Photoshop drawings as I could not figure out what was going on. It is extremely difficult to notice with a photo, unless you have a head shot, where you can see the top of a head (or some other image) right near the top of the photo. Tell me it's not clipped in slideshow view.

Thanks for the suggestion. I take it, then, that in order to prove it is overscan I have to make a movie that will have measurable edges, bands of color, each (say) 8 pixels hight? And then create a movie in iMovieHD? And then play it on the AppleTV only to see, what? The clipping of 72 pixels due to overscan? It's possible... a lot of work, but worth it to know where the source of the clipping comes from.
The images I am using are not 6:4 photos, but are (typically much less than) 1280 wide and (exactly) 720 high. I already explained that I was using photoshop to create images that were 720 pixels high, each having a 40 pixel border of black on the top and the bottom. The width is inconsequential, as for these images, clipping the width is not important. I mentioned that all photographs are also clipped but, since most people use the Photo feature on appletv to view snapshots, they don't miss the content.
All of my images are cropped to 16:9; you crop yours using iPhoto, I create them in Photoshop. If I have time this weekend, I will test your overscan theory. If that's the case, I'll let you know, and then see if there are any adjustments for overscan on my set.
FYI, while overscan does indeed exist, almost all examples in the Wikipedia refer to horizontal overscan, resulting in horizontal, not vertical, clipping. You are correct in that it still exists. This has been a real learning experience for me. I had assumed that digital = "exact."

Did anyone notice the problem with theme chooser??

Hello all!
Just wondering if anyone else has noticed a problem -- I have purchased a bunch of extra themes and now when you click on the theme chooser, it brings up a great little window with ALL of your available themes. However, there are no scroll arrows if you have too many themes!! As such, there are "missing" themes in the chooser, but if you scroll the mouse to the top of the screen, it will change it (although you can't see the one you pick!!). So, they ARE there, but the window for picking them is screwed up.
Any help with this? Apple??

Yeah, and I've been told Apple knows about it.I think the cutoff point is about 60 themes total, then it breaks.
You can still use the actual theme chooser (what you're talking about is the themes menu, not the chooser) to change a theme by using the Choose Theme function from the Edit menu (not the New or New from theme)

Anyone notice the playback screen freezing?

I have the latest version of mainstage and noticed today that if a set is playing a backing track and you hit the next set button and then hit play for that sets backing track the display build in to the concert screen (not the playback plug in screen) does not scroll

Well, in my opinion the battery life with iOS 6 on iPhone 4S is now much better!
1 % left and I have 8 hrs and 17 minutes usage and 1 day 7 hrs standby time. (I browsed the web, sent some E-Mails with pictures & received some text E-Mails, made some calls, used iMessage, Siri, Facebook, iCal, Contacts and other apps like Dropbox. Also I have 2 E-Mail accounts on "Push" and iCloud activated with all its features, except iCloud Mail and iTunes Match!)
With iOS 5.1.1 I hardly reached 6 hrs usage time.

I can tell that the font is not as clear as the old firmware. i can really notice it. has anyone seen it on their ipods?

If anything I think it's a bit bolder and clearer than before.

Has anyone found the mail app bug regarding "return" during typing?

During the composition of an email, I find the cursor dropping down to the next line without hitting the "return" key. It will drop down after an apostrophe and sometimes in the middle of a word. It will also drop down a line for every .... (4 periods) in a row. This is maddening. It is like it is formatting for the vertical iPhone screen randomly. This does not happen anywhere else but in the new Yosemite mail program. It was not a problem in Mavericks or Snow Leopard.
Has anyone had this issue?

Can the smart guide text be set a little larger in 64bit Illustrator version CS6 ????

So how do you get the little green guide text bigger in illustrator? You know.. that little green "center" that appears when you mouse over the middle of the art board? If there isn't a way, I think I know why. It would have to be a conspiracy by Adobe to make everyone lose their eyesight so nobody can see well enough to design anymore, rendering the world without illustration. As a computer science major at a large university, I find it hard to believe that nobody can change the code to make this a user defined function in a menu. I miss my old desktop resolution.

Say your phone is locked and you double click the home button to bring up the camera shortcut right. I've noticed, and it's really messed up, but you go into the camera and snap a few shots right. If you click the camera roll @ the bottom left to check your freshly taken pics you'll get a screen that says the phone is currently locked...ok...thats good if some one snatch up my phone, but...if you just hit the freakin home button one single time...your phone is magically unlocked with NO PASSWORD NEEDED!!! Just awesome!

Yeah, it only works if you don't have a password set. Whether it's a glitch or if Apple did it on purpose is unknown, but yes I have noticed it.

I figured that the "coaxing" (is the word I choose to use) by the store to upgrade to the latest version of the store would one day come. I noticed this week that the option to buy iTunes plus songs (or whatever thet are called) is now not an "option only" if iTunes plus is offered. Now, it appears one must upgrade to buy a song or album if not already running the latest store version when plus is offered.
For the time being at least, I will keep running older versions of the store that have time and time again proven to be more reliable and less risky (I am fully aware that a lot of people would choose to disagree with me on that assessment). I only buy music and I am currently passing on the advantages that these plus songs are the same .99 and at a higher bit rate (the risks in my opinion do not currently outweigh the rewards, even though one day with continuing improvements to each new store version, I will eventually make a judgement call and upgrade).
Realistically, one day in the future, I believe everyone will almost certainly have to upgrade to buy anything in the store for technological and security reasons which only makes logical sense (I will accept that fact when the time comes). It looks like that is the direction that we are slowly headed in, starting with this subtle change.

You probably have a lot of notifications turned on in Settings -> Notifications. Turn off those that you don't really need.
Turn Bluetooth and Cellular Data (if you have it) Off when not needed.
Under Setting -> Privacy -> Location Services -> System Services (at the very bottom) turn Off Location based iAds. Turning off Genius for Apps may speed up the App Store.

There are 2 work arounds for this situation.
- edit the midi note sent by the module to set it to F1 (kit - inst - F4 - F5 - note number)
- insert a midi transformer between your Roland module and the drummer track in logic's midi environnement window
The second option is more tricky but it opens up a whole word of other tranformations which are worth exploring.
