AP Isolation feature

I have a linksys Wrt150N. I was reading the manual for Advanced wireless settings and i came across AP isolation which said "wireless devices will be able to communicate with the Router but not each other".
I have three computers(2 wireless and 1 directly connected to the router). If I enable AP isolation will all 3 computers NOT be able to contact each other yet still be able to connect to the router? Would this be another security feature that would isolate the 3 computers from each other? Thanks!

Yes... that would be correct. This feature will actually be good if you will install routers on hotspots and other public settings. All computers will be able to connect to the internet on that area and that would be it. They won't be able to communicate w/ each other, nor would they be able to do file and printer sharing.

  • Complete My Album feature not working

The “Complete My Album” feature on the iTunes store is not working when I get to the final step of actually trying to purchase the rest of the album at the reduced price.  On the home page of the iTunes store, I click on the "Complete My Album" link and I can see all of the albums eligible for completion. However, when I click on one of them (no matter if I click the little arrow, the “Complete this album for $X.XX” link, the album picture, etc.), and it takes me through to the album page with the track list, etc., my previously purchased items are not grayed out or in any way labeled as "Previously Purchased", and the album is only listed at full price.  Either way, I then click “Buy Album,” and it warns me that I have already purchased songs from the album, and it asks me to click either "complete my album" or to "purchase the full album."
HOWEVER, when I click “Complete My Album," it simply returns me back to the same album page as before - again nothing is grayed out, the album is listed at fullprice, etc.
P.S. – I have tried this with multiple albums, I’m using the most up-to-date version of iTunes, and it appears from these iTunes community forums that this problem is affecting people with both PCs and Macs.

UPDATE:  Sorry for the late response but I've been out of town.  I can copy and paste the email responses if necessary or desired, and if it's fixed already this is a moot point anyway, but basically they kept asking me for the order numbers for the two songs I already bought from the specific album I was trying to complete, which I eventually gave them - along with telling them multiple times that the Complete My Album feature wasn't working for ANY album.  They gave me two free song codes to compensate me for the two songs I bought, and then told me to go and buy the album at full price, but the ENTIRE TIME they COMPLETELY ignored that I was telling them that this wasn't an issue with one album but was a larger, seemingly systematic issue that other people were experiencing.  Even after I got the song codes I emailed them back and said AGAIN that this wasn't an isolated feature, and they just sent me the link to the apple Feedback page (http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html) and told me to submit my complaint there.
So, technically, my issue was never really "resolved," in that they never fixed the Complete My Album feature that I am aware of - or even acknowledged that anything needed fixing, but I haven't tested it since Sunday.  I've noticed they've updated to 10.4.1, but the notes don't indicate they're fixing anything about the Complete My Album feature, so I don't know.  I've heard it's working for people though...

  • WRT160NL: AP isolation keeps kicking in

Hi, ih have a WRT160NL in our shared flat with 2 Macs and 2 PCs. All Devices are connected wireless and recive a good to normal wan and lan connection.
Problem is, that after some time, maybe 1 hour, sometimes 1-2 days the clients can not interact via the wireless connection. If i turn on the ap isolation feature in the router preferences and deactivate it again, the clients get to see each other again. How do i stop this? While activating and deactivating the ap isolation feature, does the router reboots?
Second problem, known for some month in this forum, the router stops routing after some days, but kicks in normal just right after a reboot (or power down -> pulled the plug). Any solutions to that?
If thats not getting better, i strongly recommend NOT to get this router and will return mine to the store!
    Greetings, Marius

Just want to bump and second this. AP Isolation mode is kicking in for me too (despite the setting being on disabled), usually as I'm trying to configure things, in particular when that involves disabling NAT and setting up proper routing.
When I change certain settings that involve the router doing a soft reboot the next thing I know all local traffic is blocked...everything can see the WRT160NL and the upstream router and the WRT160NL can see everything else. Clients however can not see eachother, not matter what you do. AP Isolation is 100% definately switched on despite the setting showing disabled.
Please can we get this checked and a B18 out to fix this? It is really really REALLY frustrating!

And I've already tried to search for downloadable purchases.
So fact is established, I've purchased this album before but iTunes does not recognize it.
    What to do?

  • Problems configuring HP Laserjet M1213nf MFP with Mac via AirPrint

    Hello,
I have a HP Laserjet M1213nf MFP printer, connected to a Dlink DSL-2730U ADSL router. I am having problems configuring the printer with my Macbook running OSX Yosemite. I can see the printers name in nearby printers but when I try to add the printer, the mac gives me an error saying, "unable to communicate with the printer at this time". The network settings on the printer are configure for iPv4 and iPv6 addresses.
Previously, I had the ADSL DSL-2750U model router, and the printer was connected fine. I did not face any issues then. I have been facing problems since I changed my router so the problem should be in the router. I have the IP for the printer reserved in the DHCP reservation list on the router settings using the mac address of the printer.
Can someone please help me out here? Is there something I am probably missing.
    Rgds
    ~n~

I talked to the DLink Support. They asked me to disable an option called "MultiAP Isolation" and Voila, the printer is working fine. I can add it to all my devices on the wireless network. I looked up google. Apparently, this isolation feature present in some routers, prevent wifi clients to interact with other devices connected to the wired network and also with each other. Thats why only my desktop which was also connected wired was only able to access the printer and not the laptops connected wirelessly.
Problem solved. Thanks for all your help on this one.
    Cheers!

  • How to ONLY use headset mic with iPhone Skype?

Latest iOS, Latest Skype app. I own many wired headsets, from Apple original, to a Jabra call center headset, to Bose QC25 noise-canceling headphones with cord mic. No matter which of these I try, the iPhone's built-in microphones stay on when I make Skype calls. I'm using a headset because I chose the headset mic. Deliberately. I don't want any other mic to be on, for many reasons that should be completely obvious.
If I'm sitting still with the iPhone near me on a table, this leads to the extraordinary sound quality that lead me to Skype in the first place. If the iPhone is in my pocket while I unload the dishwasher, any noise-isolation features of my headset mic go out the window; my activities are louder than my voice.
Worse, with the Bose QC25 headphones, I don't hear my own voice looping back. With various headsets, the other party hears me much more faintly if I throw the iPhone under a pile of comforters or a pillow. As if Skype not only insists on using the iPhone mics in addition to the headset mic, but it is using auto level control to balance them.
While Steve Jobs is my hero, one of the worst days in the history of computing was when he decided that the iPod interface should be dumbed down as far as possible on the theory that users are morons who can't tolerate user interface options. I'm not finding any options to control mics on the Skype app, a direct heir to this legacy.
So, is this a "feature" or something I can fix?

ok so playing around with it, i think i fixed it. in the surround mixer i turn off the source line in , and then select line in for rec?

  • ITunes Match, doesn't recognise the songs which i've already uploaded and its trying to upload them once again

I recently formatted my iMac, i have all of my music in an external hard drive. Once i formatted my iMac, i load all of my music from the hard drive right into iTunes, but if I turn on iTunes Match, it tries to upload all of the music again, the only way that i could handle this, is to delete all of my music, about 25,000 songs, and then download them all again. Is there any way that iTunes recognizes the music that i already have in my cloud and just leave it there?

Hey sorry for the late response but I've been out of town.

  • Missing OS X Lion Gestures

I recently took my laptop into the Apple Store for a faulty logic board. They replaced at no cost but when I got it back I noticed my double-tap to move wasn't working. I also noticed that tapping on the trackpad didn't work either. I had to use the button again (this is an old MacBook with the now-old-school long button along the bottom of the trackpad).
Went into System Preferences and enabled "Tap to Click" but for whatever reason that didn't re-enabled my ability to double-tap on a window (for example) and move it. I'm not busted down to using the button again.
A minor inconvenience but I liked not having to use the button. The constant clicking of the button is annyoning.
I also noticed that I don't have the ability to do a three-finger drag either. My question is, is there anyway to enable the same gestures that are on newer Macs? I have most everything like four-finger LaunchPad, three-finger swiping between full-screen apps and so on. Why can't I move a window with three-fingers or double-tap to move?
    Anyone?

Aha, now I get it. Just the new three finger tap'n'hold for doing what one finger tap-tap'n'hold did before is missing. That is strange. I can not see any reason for this since it is no more complex than any other three or four finger thing.
Even if you would have some hack installed the System Preference wouldn't lack such an isolated feature. But, isn't this the genious guys are in the AppStore for? I'm Swedish and we don't have any AppStore here so I might miss something but my impression of what has been said about the geniouses are that they provide support of the more general knowledge seeking type of questions?. That is you do not need a support deal like AppleCare or a new Mac to put them on the task to answer such things as why is three fingers t'n'h missing but non of the other?
I use a late 2008 Unibody 13" MacBook (non pro) and it has the large glass trackpad and have the threefinger thing implemented as one would expect. I prefered the one finger double tap and hold since three finger take a bit of space and this is a guesture were you move your finger over the trackpad area. One finger reach further since it really can go edge to edge on the track pad and gives a feeling of being more precise since if your thre fingers are changing their distance between each other, which point is overriding the others? But all in all it works ok.
Perhaps you have a bug going on, and you just would need to find the right 'defaults' parameter to set? Your preferences files might shed a light on this? Those are the ones ending with .plist and is located in ~/Library/Preferences/ or the system wide settings are stored in /Library/Preferences and the 'man defaults' terminal command gives you a command line tool to use to set these values.

  • LAN issues with printing

I recently purchased the NOVT1114 4G LTE router. It is working great and all the computers connect to the Internet just find. The problem is suddenly we have not been able to print to the networked printer connected to a separate wireless router via an Ethernet cable. I have the wireless router in one building that gets a better 4G signal and some computers connect and receive their IP from the 4G router. I then have connected to the 4G router a wireless Ghost Bridge to connect the other building. At the end of that Ghost Bridge is a wireless router setup for DHCP for those devices. So yes, they receive the internal 10.0 address not for public use. Like I said all those computers connect to the Internet and have great service. The wired networked copier however cannot get out and no one can print to it. We can't seem to see backwards into the LAN from the computers connected to the 4G router either. We use to be able to ping the other router, but I can't seem to get past the 4G router into the LAN like I used to.  What am I missing? Ideas?

As I read your description I paint the following topology for your environment:
    - VZW ))) 4G Router ))) PC1
    - VZW ))) 4G Router ))) PC2
    - VZW ))) 4G Router ))) Prt1
    - VZW ))) 4G Router === AP2 ))) PC3
    - VZW ))) 4G Router === AP2 ))) PC4
    - VZW ))) 4G Router ))) AP3 === AP4? ))) PC5
    - VZW ))) 4G Router ))) AP3 === AP4? ))) PC6
Apparently all PCs have internet access which is a good start.  At least the networking devices are talking to each other and handing traffic down the chain and back out to your 4G LTE router which is acting like the modem/WAN connection.
If I'm following you correctly then PC1 and PC2 cannot ping PC5 and PC6.  Likewise nothing can apparently connect to Prt1 (network printer).  I feel a few issues could be going on.
    1. Double NAT - Depending on how you have configured your additional APs (access points) you may have devices sitting behind multiple NAT firewalls within the LAN.  That means traffic can leave devices like PC6 and hit the internet but not necessarily the other way around unless those devices opened up a pathway first.  Not to mention the NAT you are resting behind on the VZW network itself...
    2. Wireless Client Isolation - Its common for many home routers to have a feature that limits the ability of locally connected machines from communicating directly with each other.  This feature is often desirable for guest wireless access and not so much for home/personal use.
What you should consider doing is temporarily disabling all of the DHCP functionality on your additional APs (the bridge and 2nd router).  Allow all devices to rely on the 4G LTE router as the default gateway and DHCP server.  That way everything can be managed together as one large network instead of several smaller isolated ones.
To help with the printer issue consider temporarily Ethernet cable connecting it to the router its nearest to and then having wireless devices on the same router setting up a new connection.  This should help you determine if any kind of wireless isolation feature is enabled or not.  It shouldn't be by default but you may have accidentally turned it on somehow.  Restoring the defaults on the 4G LTE router would also clear up an issue like this too.

  • Reader XI causes browser (IE9) to crash

I have downloaded Adobe Reader XI, but when I click on a link to a .pdf file on a webpage my browser (IE9) crashes. Diagnostics says that Adobe Reader XI is incompatible. Must have some settings wrong somewhere.

You mention 10.2+. Flash is now up to 11.2. Have you tried that version?
Have you noticed problems with any other plugins (e.g., Windows Media Player, PDF reader, etc.)?
Could you check on the plugin process isolation feature in the about:config preferences editor:
    - Type or paste '''about:config''' in the urlbar and press Enter; click the button promising to be careful.
    - In the filter box, type or paste '''dom.ipc''' and pause while Firefox filters the list.
By default, dom.ipc.plugins.enabled should be set to true (and not bolded) to run the Flash player in the plugin-container.exe process rather than the firefox.exe process.
If yours is customized to false, try double-clicking to reset it to true and test again. (You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect; I'm not sure.)

  • Disable middle button for osx while in Parallels

I've been trying to accomplish this for hours, maybe someone can help:
I need to use AutoCad for PC, so I run a Windows XP VM in Parallels 7. In OSX (Mountain Lion) I have assigned Mission Control for the middle button of my mouse (Logitech V470).
When I try to pan in Parallels's AutoCad, as obvious, it activates Mission Control. How can I disable the middle button for OSX only if I'm working in Parallels, so when I go back to OSX it will continue to launch Mission Control. Am I explaning my self good enough?
    Thanks for your help!!

Actually the middle button  on a mouse has a specific function in OS X and you have overwritten that. If you hadn't it would work as it should in Win XP for ACad. You need to remove that change of assignments and go back to Default.
There also may be an isolation feature in Parallels where once you are in Parallels the mouse and keyboard commands are only relayed to the OS in parallels. Not sure as I use VMware Fusion.

  • Disable middle button paste in terminal app

Does anyone know how to disable middle-button paste in the terminal app?   I use the middle-button scroll wheel all the time, but it often generates a middle-button click which now seems (in 10.8) to paste and run whatever's in the clipboard, and this has been causing me all kinds of havoc.   Does anyone know of a way to disable it?
    Thanks,
    John.

  • "Complete My Album" isn't working on my computer

I can download singular songs, but when I try to download any album with the complete my album feature it doesn't connect. No error code pops up. It just doesn't work (accessing itunes store pops up at the top, but goes away after a few seconds). I can buy the album, but I already have four songs off of it, so I don't really want to pay for those too. I've checked my internet connection, cleared my browsing data, and even turned off my firewall for a little while to see if it was a connection/security problem, but nothing is working. These crash reports can be hard to interpret, but at least the six from 9/16 seem to be "out of memory" (OOM) errors. Assuming that is the case, the question is what might be done about that.
This support article has a range of suggestions, including not having more than 100 tabs open and possibly useful add-ons. [[Firefox uses too much memory (RAM) - How to fix]]. In a bug report, I also saw an extension that displays the usage on the add-on bar, which might help in keeping an eye on it.
I noticed you have several dom.ipc.plugins.* preferences set to False, which may force some plugins to run in firefox.exe rather than plugin-container.exe. The design of the process isolation feature is that plugin crashes will take down plugin-container.exe rather than firefox.exe. It may also be that overriding process isolation is ballooning the memory usage by firefox.exe rather than more evenly distributing it between the two processes. You may want to restore those settings to their defaults and see whether that helps.
Finally, to reduce the size of your sessionrestore.js file you could omit personal data (e.g., cookies, form data), but this will make it a bit harder after a crash to get back to where you were.
