Apache : One httpd process running as root instead of nobody

Hello,
Running mediawiki under apache 2.2.8-2, I see strange messages saying that some files under /root/.texmf-var/ do not exist !
I was sure that apache was configured to run as the user nobody !
After doing a ps|grep, I get :
# ps auxw | grep httpd

How is it possible ?
Any hint ?

This is necessary to use port 80
There might be other reasons.

Hi all,
I'm used to iWS 4.x where there's only one watchdog and one ns-httpd process running for any given install of iWS. Now in iWS 6.x I noticed there are two processes for the admin server and two processes for the actual single web server instance, along with two watchdogs.
What are the extra web server instances doing? I noticed that there is a 'parent' relationship with the pid's, so I guess one is spawning the other, but why? If it's to have persistent state over restart, isn't that what uxwdog is for?

Can you send the output of ps -ef|grep iplanet ?
iplanet Web Server is very old please move to latest Web Servers.
You can download latest Web Servers from [http://www.sun.com/download/index.jsp?cat=Web%20%26%20Proxy%20Servers&tab=3&subcat=Web%20Servers].
Please use either of the two
Sun Java System Web Server 7.0 update 5 (release notes are located @ [http://wikis.sun.com/display/WebServerdocs/Release+Notes]) or
Sun ONE web Server 6.1 SP11 ( release notes are located @ [http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-7659]).

When I start Sun Java System Web Server 7.0 or Sun ONE 6.1 Server instance, I can see one watchdog and two webservd processes :

Dropbox process running under root.

Hello people i just checked activity monitor for a process and i saw the process "dbfseventsd" and i google it and it came up that it is a dropbox process, and it was running under the root user and it was a 32bit process. Can anyone tell me why that process was there note the process is not always there when i use dropbox.

Since a couple days, in my Home appears DCQd7rmUW9.tmp. It is a temp file produced by dbfseventsd but operated by Java. It is a DropBox process anyway?

Qmasterd process doesn't run as root

I've just installed Compressor 4.0.2 on three of my laptops. On my main working computer Compressor refuses to work as the master. On my two other computers it works just fine with identical settings. I found out that on these two Macs the process qmasterd runs as root permanently (also when Compressor is not running) whereas on the "problem" Mac it runs with my user previleges. The process disappears when I quit Compressor on this machine. Activity Monitor tells me that qmasterd was started by launchd (on the two other Macs) and by Compressor itself (on the "problem" Mac).
I reinstalled Compressor and ran "Compressor Repair" with no success. I reinstalled MacOS 10.7.3, disabled the firewall, repaired permissions, used ethernet and WIFI connections, nothing. I read so many forum posts which don't give any solution for my problem.
When I try to form a cluster on the "problem" Mac an error comes up: "SwampDaemon::NFSPublisher: authorization has expired". Sometimes there is no error message at all.
Remember: With identical settings Compressor works as expected on two other Macs.

Ever get any resolution on this? I am having the same issue.

Suprisingly two Processes running for one database

Hi all,
Today morning in one of our database servers, we see two processes running for one database.

Can anybody suggest me what is the reason behind it and what to do in this case?

The ORACLE_HOME may have been set twice with differents values in it (i.e. extra slash) before starting twice the same db.

Apache/bin/httpd

I am trying to find documentation, notes, or anyone whom has the knowledge about the httpd processes started by OMS10g
I am running OMS on IBM-AIX 5300-07. I am fairly new to OMS and after the installation I was looking at the various processes that are running and I see 10 processes of the exact same nature.
$OMS_HOME/Apache/Apache/bin/httpd -d $OMS_HOME/Apache/Apache -DSSL -U 64159809
What are these processes?
Why do I have 10 identical ones?
Do I need 10 identical ones?
Where should I be looking for informaiton on this process.
Any insight would be appreciated?

I too have at least 10 of these processes running, and it seems that the http server needs all of these to run (if you kill some of them, it will go down.) But I'm more concerned because I also occasionally get an alert in grid control saying I've exceeded the threshold for active connections (over 140, have gone up to 800). Then it will go back down. No rhyme or reason that I can see...
Any idea what all of these processes are for and why they spike up to hundreds occasionally?

Sharing iTunes library/playlist, only one user can run iTunes

Greetings everyone
Just got a new aluminum iMac, setting it up for the wife and kids. From the descriptions here, I have set up several accounts to share a single iTunes library, by creating aliases in each user's iTunes folder that point to the shared library. It seems to work great: I only have to import music ONCE (instead of once for each user), and if one user creates or changes a new playlist, everyone sees it, which is exactly what I wanted.
However, I have run into a small problem, and it is this. Under this setup, with everyone sharing the same library, *only one person can be running iTunes at a time.* If user A is running iTunes and doesn't quit the app when the computer is switched to User B or C, they get the message
----- +"The iTunes Library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file."+
----- Switch back to User A, quit iTunes, and then the others can launch iTunes fine (though again, just ONE of them). Same behavior regardless of whether the user is admin or not.
So, is there any way to enable more than one user to run iTunes at once under this shared scenario? I'm thinking iTunes may not allow multiple users to access the library file at once, so it may be necessary to have users quit iTunes or log out before switching accounts. Let me know if there is a workaround or if anyone has gotten this to work....

Hi, I just read your post here - I'd like to do exactly what you were able to do, that is, sharing one iTunes library with multiple user accounts on my iMac so that we can both use/add to the same library (I also want to do this with iPhoto, so I'm assuming it's the same process); would you mind quickly telling me how you were able to do this? Managed Client running under root

Hi
Can any one of you here tell me what is Managed Client???
I saw that one in the Activity Monitor and it is running under root account.
Is this one of the Apple Remote Desktop?
Or other Application is running.

How to configure the how many work processes for 80 concurrent users login daily.One work process can only process one user request at a time? Does this mean a login user has a dedicated work process servicing him. Or many login users interleave a work process's service? ,clarify the same.

There are different types of work processes and the number needed depends on the number of transactions that will take place in the system. We are running 80 concurrent users with 15 dialog work processes. Please see the link below for an explanation:

Error calling a webservice from one server process of the cluster

Hi ,
I have a servlet which on startup makes a call to a webservice. I deploy this webapp on the cluster.
The cluster has two instances each instance having one server process.
So when the server restarts one server process on one instance calls the web service the other process on other instance fails with a 503 response code.
When I tried to reproduce the same problem using two server processes on the same instance both processes are able to call the webservice properly.
I am slightly confused as to how different the second scenario is from first one as both are individual server process and may or may not run on same instance.
Can anyone tell me the real cause.
