Aperture 2.0 web export: .Mac only?!

Everything I've seen so far on the web site talks only about .Mac. Are you still able to export to plain HTML and upload to your own site?
Thanks.

Oh, no, phew, .Mac is not required!
I found the manual (http://images.apple.com/aperture/docs/Aperture2_UserManual.pdf) and on page 554 it explains how to do it.

  • Slow Web Export in Aperture 1.5.1

I feel a little crazy for asking this, but it seems like web exports have gotten significantly slower since I upgraded to Aperture 1.5.1. I cannot find anything on my machine that would cause this. Has anyone else experienced this?

    PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I haven't noticed it being slower in v1.5.1 than previously. That said it's too slow and slower than it should be. My Mac Pro can knock out files as fast as 18 high res. files per minute (~90mb each. from 1DsM2) when I'm batching but web galleries tend to hover around 3 files per minute (2-6 overall). That's much too slow and would be a nightmare on location if you have to generate a web gallery from your laptop of a few hundred files.
Aperture needs to have an option to generate the web galleries from the thumbnails it creates (which I think fit within 1000 px square - more than enough for most web galleries) or from previews rather than from the raw files. This would speed things up considerably.
I haven't been using previews, I turned them off, so you might be able to use them for that if your referenced files are off-line, but it would still be nice to have the option to generate web galleries from Aperture's built thumbnails or the previews from an Aperture library or from referenced files.

Do you mean your export presets, etc? Or also your setting in the Peference window?
Your export presets and other presets are stored in your user library, in the folder
    ~/Library/Application Support/Aperture/
Look for the files and folders:
    Adjustment Chain Presets.plist
    Import Presets.plist
    Adjustment Preset Brushing
    MetadataSets.plist
    Book Themes
    Plug-Ins
    Command Sets
    PrintPresets.plist
    Export Presets.plist
    Raw Decode Presets.plist
    FileFolderPresets.plist
    Web Export Presets.plist
    FileNamingPresets.plist
Copy these files to the corresponding folder on your new mac, then restart the system.
The preferences you set from the Preferences panel are stored in the "Preferences" folder in the user library, but it would be easier to use the Preferences panel to recreate them.
You user library may still be hidden, as is the default in Mavericks: To open your hidden user library:
Select the "Home" folder icon (the little house)  in the Finder's sidebar and press the key combination ⌘J to open the "view options".
    Enable "Show Library Folder".
Then open the Home folder and open the Library folder inside and navigate to ~/Library/Application Support/Aperture

  • Aperture 2.0 Web Gallery - Broken?

I am running Aperture 2.0 on a Mac Pro 2.8x8 10GB RAID0 OS 10.5.2 with all updates to graphics drivers etc. as of 02.17.08.
I have a project with 43 photographs, in 6 stacks.
    1. I select 3 photographs and click 'Web Gallery' button from Toolbar.
    2. The 'Web Gallery' is created in the Project Panel.
    3. The 'Web Gallery' project displays every photograph in the stack, instead of the ones I selected.
    4. Uploaded on the 'Web Gallery' is only ONE photograph. The first one in the stack.
The End result? When I view the webpage in Safari, ONE photograph appears. The first one in the stack.
I have been using the Web Gallery feature in iPhoto 08 since September, and Aperture 1.5 for over two years. I don't think I'm forgetting to do something as this process includes extremely few variables to complicate. Not only do I wish Apple spent at least a few man hours creating a more dynamic Web 2.0 experience for Aperture instead of not touching the existing technology (which is dated), but I wish the product I paid for would work properly?
Hopefully It's something I'm overlooking, because I'm sure other people are having this same problem.
    Graham
Edit: I suppose its worth mentioning that I do not have 'Primary Only' selected. And when I try to delete a photograph from a Web Gallery, unlike iPhoto where it will remove it from the Web Gallery ONLY, Aperture would like to remove the photograph permanently.. Hopefully thousands of people aren't deleting photographs by accident thinking its only removing it form Web Gallery because thats how it functions in other Apple Software?

As the manual suggests, all 27 photographs in this stack are similar in kind. I would like to publish 3 of these photographs with my stack intact. You're saying this is not possible?
If you want maximum flexibility in creating Web Galleries, DO NOT use stacks? What happens to the thousands of stacks that people have already created in Aperture and would like to simply get photographs online? Sounds like hours of reworking organization.

  • Web Export / Lightroom

I'm using Aperture for editing / cataloging needs, but when it comes to exporting to a web page, well.... it really blows. With limited choices. On the other hand, I do like the web export features in Adobe's Lightroom.
So what would be the best workflow to store /edit /catalog my images in Aperture, but to export to web via Lightroom? Will I have to export the versions I want to disk, and then import to Lightroom in order to export to web?

The Gallery plug-in seems to do the Job nicely! Just getting it set up and testing now (only one small gallery on-line) but I like the layout and functionality of it -

  • Html link to specific photo in flash web export

I want to send someone links to specific images in my flash web export. I know I can direct them to the source image file, but I want them to see it in the flash export interface. Is there a way I can make a duplicate copy of the index.html and edit the start image and save as another name, or would I have to copy and alter the flash file?

You can't do a direct link to the image witht the built-in Flash movie. If you need to do this often, consider getting the SlideShowPro web engine and switching on "permalinks".
But to resolve your existing problem, it is fiddly. I assume you want the rest of the web gallery to work, so copy the index.html file, and then look for a folder called resources\mediaGroupData and make a copy of the file group.xml, so you have two xml files in that folder. What you would need to do is edit this "copy.xml" so it only lists your picture. Then back to your copy of index.html and replace any references to group.xml with copy.xml. I told you it was fiddly!

  • Alternative to Save for Web/Export as CSS Layers?

I'm am SO DEVASTATED that CS6 got rid of the option to save as CSS layers in Save for Web.  I just updated from 5 to 6 and now I'm looking for an alternative but am having no luck.  I've tried some scripts I've found online but none of them work the way I need, or at all.
I do animation in AI where each layer is a frame on the animation.  In CS5 I could Save for Web and check the Export as CSS Layers box.  This would export all the layers in my AI file to pngs, where each layer is it's own png file, in one folder.  I could then import them as an image sequence in Photoshop and turn layers on and off with each frame to create my animation.
I tried exporting my AI file to a PSD file with maximum editability but the more complicated the animation (meaning the more layers and the more objects on each layer) it would start flattening layers without warning.  Not to mention the rendering time just opening the file in Photoshop and then trying to save it there once I had created all my frames.  Photoshop froze on me 6 times this morning while I was trying things out.
I'm desperate for a simple way to do the CSS layer trick.  If I can't find one, I'm going to have to go back to CS5 permanently, or until I can find a solution.

here you go, let me know if it cuts it.
    #target Illustrator
    //  script.name = exportLayersAsCSS_PNGs.jsx;
    //  script.description = mimics the Save for Web, export images as CSS Layers (images only);

  • Aperture cannot read RAW exported from IDC?

When I shoot RAW with the kit lens of my nex6 it usually get distorted pretty bad. So what I'm trying to do is first open it up with Sony's image editor called IDC (latest version) and then export the RAW file from IDC then import that fixed file back into Aperture. However for some odd reason when Aperture imports a IDC exported file, not only is the distortion not fixed but the photo now has this weird green cast to it.
How do I fix this? I've already tried regenerating previews, that doesn't help.

TIFF would be the better call.  "Truly lossless" is difficult to say; changes are "baked in" to the RAW file on the conversion.
Still, the PTlens plugin recommended in another thread is probably the better call:

  • When I try to drag and drop my photos in iPhoto to an external drive (for backup or to transfer them to my other Mac) only some will transfer.  If I copy

When I try to drag and drop my photos in iPhoto to an external drive (for backup or to transfer them to my other Mac) only some will transfer.  If I copy and paste, the same thing happens.  The photos are all taken with the same camera, but some will not transfer.  It tells me right away - for example, I'll "grab" 3500 photos to drag and move, and the red ball will tell me it's moving 3256 or something.  If I use the copy function instead - copy 3500 photos, it will show in Finder that I can paste 3256 or whatever. This happens on my iMac as well as my MacBook Pro.  It started recently and I've never had this before.  Any thoughts?  Thank you!

Are you able to use the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu to export  the photos into a folder on the EHD?

  • LR3 Web Export

    Hi,
I have been exporting photos through the Web module using the Export button.
All worked fine until suddenly LR3 claims images are missing.
    "Missing Images"
    "export did not complete successfuly"
then there is a list of the images with there exact path e.g.
Original image file is missing : "Users/buisbird/pictures/Lightroom/Photos/2010/2010-03-30/YBP_7838.CR2"
    - The strange thing is that the same images exported fine only an our ago.
    - The location of the images has not changed, all drives are mounted.
    - The images are exactly there where LR3 claims they can not be found.
    - LR3 can edit the images, write and read xmp files to the location, all without any problems.
    What can be wrong.?
    Thanks.

What OS? If win7 make sure your user is still the owner of the drive you are trying to save to (explorer/properties/advanced/security/owner)

  • Aperture Publishing to New (08) .Mac Galleries?

Is there a way to publish Aperture albums to the new .Mac 08 galleries (gallery.mac.com)? The "Publish to .Mac..." functionality just puts albums in the old location and does not enable any of the new .Mac gallery features.

Interesting. So say I create a .Mac gallery in iPhoto by dragging images from my Aperture library using the Media Browser: Were do those images live on my machine. It seems that the thumbnails are all that gets added locally, and that the original files are otherwise untouched. (Copies are, of course generated and uploaded to .Mac, but these seem not to have local versions—or do they?) Moreover it seems that these new, iPhoto web gallery-specific thumbnails live in the Aperture library[!]; is that right? And what happens when I edit an image from within the web gallery in iPhoto? Does that alter the Aperture version?
In short: What's the relationship between a the photos in a Web Gallery in iPhoto and the Aperture originals from which they are generated?

  • Need to export MAC PRO RES HQ footage out of FCP and into premiere friendly format

Ive been forced to switch platforms mid project (mac -> PC) and luckily have obtained picture lock so theres no loss to having lost my FCP project. The problem has been that when i went to load my footage into premiere or to even play the files with VLC nothing worked, and i discovered that it was infact the codec, which was a MAC only PRO RES HQ codec, so now i need to re-export my footage out of FCP into a windows usuable format.
What is the best codec/format to use that will maintain the original quality? Filesize is not an issue.

As Jim mentioned, you'd have to use an uncompressed codec--probably QuickTime Animation, as I'm not sure you can encode to an uncompressed AVI on the Mac.
You might also consider something like
Sheer Video. It's a QuickTime codec for both Mac and PC. You'd have to purchase the Mac encoder component, and I think you could then get the free playback component on the PC--though you might actually have to buy the PC version, too. There's also Digital Anarchy's
Microcosm. Both of these codecs are perceptually lossless, but offer far greater compression ratios (and manageability) than Animation. Not saying either is the best option, but they are options, nonetheless.

  • LR 1.1 web export color discrepancies

Okay, I have googled all over for this and have found people with the same issue, but nobody seems to have the answer. Hoping someone here has a solution to this.
What I am seeing is my colors being "enhanced", sometimes way too much when I export in either flash or HTML in the web module. I have done all kinds of tests, but I absolutely cannot find any settings for exporting in the web module. when I do an export under "file->export" and use colorspace AdobeRGB, it looks just like my Nikon RAW file. However, if I change the colorspace on export to sRGB, the color is greatly enhanced. This makes me feel as though I have no control over my images.
Take a look at the 2 following images. The first one is just a plain screenshot of the image in LR, the second image is a screenshot of the file after being viewed in the flash web export. Clearly LR is modifying the image on upload, but for the life of me I cannot find where this modification is taking place so I can try to shut it off. I would like full control of my images and just can't get it using the web export. Please help! I'm running windows XP Pro.
    first image:

In its basic form, the difference you're seeing is caused by the absence of color management in Windows browsers (with only partial support in Safari) and flash. However, I think you may also have an issue with your monitor profile.
Windows allows you to assign an ICC profile to your monitor that describes its color response (control panel -> display properties -> settings -> advanced -> color management). Lightroom uses this profile to convert the image data so that it displays correctly on your screen.
Browsers (Windows) and Flash do not do this, and send the image data directly to your screen instead. *If* your image is in sRGB *and* your monitor's response is close to the sRGB standard, things may look ok, but there are no guarantees.
However, the differences you are showing are very large, which leads me to believe that your monitor profile is describing a color space that is much larger than sRGB (the default web output). Have you assigned the Adobe RGB to your monitor, by any chance? Your monitor profile should match your monitor's actual response, so try to get one from your monitor manufacturer, or, better yet, get a hardware calibrator. If you're desperate, you can also try assigning the sRGB profile, but it's *not* a real solution [even less so for lousy laptop LCDs].
