Aperture importing Images
When I import an image to an album it will not show in the selected album - If I do a find I must do it in my entire library - Once found it list the image's master location as the album I selected to import to but that image still does not appear in that album- this occurs with both drag and drop and normal importing. If I do a find in the album I have selected it will appear but removes all image already in that album - I have tried this with multiple images - no luck Thank You

P.S. The Master Location tag doesn't show an Album name. It shows the name of the Project that the Master is part of.

Trouble with aperture importing images or perhaps seeing drive.
i keep my images on an external bus powered drive (120gb lacie rugged drive), for a while aperture would let me import images (i want to use a referenced library) from this drive. at some point aperture would not see any of the images or folders on this drive. aperture may have appeared to think it was some other kind of volume? (a cf card perhaps?)
are there any known problem with bus powered drives and aperture?
this was all with the 30 day trial version which has since expired, i'm afraid that i am a little vague with info. to compound matters ive had a drive failure, so while this all happened with 10.4.8, but now i'm now back on 10.4.6.
i have an educational version (xmas present) that i can install, but before i break the seal and install it, i want to make sure that i will be able to use this drive to store my images.
thanks! You were right the format was set to sRAW2 after resetting the files are seen by Aperture, however, a new problem has arise. The adjustment area only sees the normal and not the RAW. In other words adjustment tab is not designated in the tool section.

Aperture 3.3 updated. Importing images, can no longer access drive
This has happened several times. Let me try and explain it a little better.
I import images, step away from my computer, come back screen is blank (display asleep) the computer is not. I hit the space bar to bring it back to life and then try to do the next import. For some reason Aperture cant find the disk after that. I can get to it in finder and see the filesystem and folders.
The only way I can get back into the library is to disconnect the drive, close aperture, plug the drive back in and start aperture. If I close aperture and re-open it, it says I dont have the proper permissions to open this library, checked that, I have read & write. I dont have this problem ising the drive with any other app.
Never had this problem prior to upgrade & if I keep importing without the screen going dark it appears to stay working. Its very strange.
Anyone?I am the person who first posted this question yesterday. After reading other postings this morning, I followed the advice to "restore" 3 Mozilla files which had been quarantined by Norton Internet Security yesterday. My Firefox 3.6.6 now works great. Also see:

How to make Photoshop save Aperture imported JPEG images as JPEGs
Recently, I upgraded from Photoshop CS 5 to CS 5.1.
My point and shoot cameras record in JPEG format. Often, I'll import those photos into Aperture and then tweak them in Photoshop using the Edit in External Editor command. My preferences for the external editor in Aperture were set to 8-bit, Photoshop
With Photoshop CS 5, I would edit the photo and choose Save and the edited photo would be saved back to Aperture as a new version, in a JPEG format.
Now, using Photoshop CS 5.1, when the imported image from Aperture is converted into a PSD file and when I save back to Aperture, I end up with a PSD file.
How can I revert to how it was before? JPEG image in Aperture, opened in external editor Photoshop as a JPEG, edited in Photoshop, then saved back to Aperture as a new version JPEG?
(Though this question is approached in this forum, a solution to my question is never found as each dicussion ends up going off-topic from the original question)clapperincus wrote:
Any further ideas from anyone who's experienced trying to open a JPEG from Aperture in Photoshop as a JPEG?
Like I said before, you cannot open a jpeg as a jpeg, the file must be decompressed to open in PS or in Aperture, and that has always been the case.
I do not know how it used to work, but I tested and you are correct that with PS 12.1 and with Aperture 3.2.2 a JPEG sent to open in external editor (PS) is opened into your choice of lossless format and then goes back to Aperture in the lossless format you chose.
IMO this is the way it should be, because every save into JPEG loses image data, so such saves should be limited to the final export, in this case when the image actually leaves Aperture. If the file was compressed as a JPEG when leaving PS, decompressed and edited in Aperture, then compressed again to export as JPEG from Aperture, unnecessary additional image data loss would occur.
It is always better to save the application of lossy compression until the very last step in a workflow because other usages (printing, for instance) may occur before applying the lossy compression.

Importing images with Aperture 2.1 Trial
I've installed the latest trial version of Aperture and have tried importing images from one of my external hard discs, but having navigated to the folder containing the images I want to download, (all of which are RAW files from my Nikon D300), no thumbnails show up and Aperture tells me there are no images that I can import.
I've navigated to other folders that contain various other kinds of image files, (e.g. .JPG and .TIF files), and still Aperture won't display them for import. However, when I connect my camera direct to my laptop and navigate to its folder, no problem! Up come the thumbnails and I can import as many as I want.
Does anyone have any idea what might be going wrong? i.e. Why can't I import RAW files from my external hard disc?
Many thnaks,
ChrisI'm having the opposite trouble. All of a sudden, Aperture refuses to show thumbnails or download images from my Nikon D-50, but I can get them using Image Capture and then import from the hard disk.

Best way to start with Aperture, importing thousands of images at once?
I'm evaluating Aperture 2 on my MacBook for my DAM workflow going forward - right now I'm using the Bridge application paired with Photoshop and Adobe Camera RAW on my PC. I find the DAM and sorting functionality to be challenging/lacking/not intuitive for me under Bridge and I've been using it for years at work and home.
In taking a look at the trial of Aperture, I've tried the obvious thing of trying to import all images on my system under the Pictures directly, but it really doesn't like to do that. I know there are a few thousand in the JPEG directory and a few thousand in the RAW directory, but it still doesn't add up to the 10,000 limit (or was that 100,000?) that it complained about when I pulled up the program for the first time and simply tried to have it import the media on my entire hard drive.
I really don't like using Picassa, but I do like the fact that it found all the images on my hard drive for me, and allows me to do basic searches and image tweaks. There really should be a simple way for a photographer to set Aperture up with the existing (legacy? pre-Aperture?) image base which he's already collected. I have almost ten years worth of images that I want to go through and I seriously do not want to go through each and every day's worth of images (folder by folder) for ten years without some sort of automated process to go through them and pull them in.
Any ideas? Any plugins? I realize that, going forward, if I choose Aperture as my primary DAM and initial tweaker, as opposed to say Lightroom, I'll have the Automator tools to pull down images from my various cameras and place them into projects automatically.
Also, just wanted to mention that Aperture has crashed a few times on me and even, once, deleted my entire Picture library (even though it claimed in the message it would only delete the links to the images, not the images themselves). Luckily, I'm insane with my backups, and was able to restore to a point prior to the Aperture "catastrophe" in a few minutes...but still. I want to be able to trust my programs and it lost a few points there....
Any tips would be much appreciated. Thanks!I think what you're looking for is File >> Import >> Folders into a Project. The top level folder will be imported as a project, and sub folders will create albums within that Project.
With that many images, I would choose the option to keep the images in their current location. (Unless that location is a hard drive formatted FAT32.)
If you have side car files, most of the IPTC metadata will come along, but not ratings.
I don't recommend placing the whole thing into one big project. You can keep the organizational structure you have in the finder in your Aperture Library if you do a little planning.
All that being said, do it in chunks not all at once.

Aperture won't let me import images. It tells me that there is not enough space in the Aperture volume. I am directing the images to a remote drive that has plenty of space. Any ideas?
It tells me that there is not enough space in the Aperture volume.
Is your library managed or referenced? If referenced, are the library and the originals on the same volume? And how full are the system drive and the drive with the library?
I am directing the images to a remote drive that has plenty of space.
So your drive is not directly connected? What kind of drive? A NAS? -
Aperture 3 image import question
I'm trying out a trial version of Aperture 3, and have a (hopefully) quick question about importing images.
I keep my images on a network storage drive. When I imported them into Aperture, the program seemed to copy the files from the NAS to the Aperture library on the Mac's HD. I don't want it to do that. Lightroom, on my Windows box, has the option to just reference the file's location when importing. It leaves the images where they are, and references the location in its database. Is there a way to get Aperture to do the same thing? I want my raw files to be accessible to any machine on the network, not stored locally.
Thanks.No reason to guess .
Most of the default Metadata Overlays show Badges. Aperture uses different badges to indicate whether an image's Master is Managed or Referenced, and if Referenced, what the status of the Master is. What badges are you shown?
Also, right-click an image. If "Show in Finder" is in the pop-up menu, the image's Master is Referenced. If it is, select "Show in Finder" and see what happens. You'll either get a message containing the Master's path, or you'll get a Finder window showing the Finder folder containing the Master. -

Aperture crashes when importing images after Montain Lion upgrade
Hello all,
I upgraded recently my MacBook to Montin Lion. Since this upgrade, Aperture is craching everytime I import pictures (jpeg). Aperture imports 10-20 images then crashes.
I have read all the communities discussions and tried all the soutions without success (delete raw pset, reinstall Aperture, reinstall Mountain Lion, rebuild library,...)
Any other ideas ?

Aperture 3.0.1 Problem with Importing Images
The problem I am experiencing with Aperture 3 is that often when I am trying to import images to a project, the images "do not show up" in the import window. In other words, Aperture doesn't "see" the images I am trying to import.
Here's what I mean, I might have photos on a CF card or on a hard drive which I would be trying to add/import into a project. Sometimes but not all the time, when I select the folder or location where the files are that I am trying to import, no files show up! These are just regular JPEG files. I know they are there because if I look with OS X's Finder, the images are all there. As well, sometimes if I quit Aperture and restart it all over again, the images that I want to import now show up in the import window.
This problem doesn't change either whether I click on the "do not import duplicate" box or not. Although as a side note, this "do not import duplicate" function doesn't seem to be reliable either.
Does anyone have any suggestions regarding what I can do to fix this? Can I "reinstall" Aperture? How do I do this? Is this something I can fix by rebuilding the library?I didn't even realize that I too had this issue until I came upon this thread. I went into my Import window, selected my hard drive and only the folder structure would show - no images corresponding to those within the folders would appear in the window above.
Odd, though, all I did was uncheck the 'Do not import duplicates' box and suddenly the images now appear, and continue to appear after a relaunch of Aperture. I've since rechecked the duplicates box but the images still appear.
I don't know if it's related to the initial toggling of the duplicates button or not. Nor do I know if the problem will appear sometime later, but I do know it was/is an issue. -
Imported images from iphone are unsupported in aperture?
When I try to import images from my iphone into aperture, they come in as gray boxes. When I click on these I get a message that the file format is unsupported. Anyone else running into this?!
Also, I tried image capture and tried to open the jpg's in preview. This also didn't work and said the format is unsupported. Photoshop gives the following message:
Could not complete your request because a JPEG marker segment length is too short (the file may be truncated or incomplete). -
Aperture import plug-in won't run. After examining my library the number of image files stays at "undetermined" and the import button stays greyed out. Any thoughts?
Others have the same issue, with the import button being grayed out. My trail copy expired, but I believe by poking around in the options and selecting another Aperture library and re-selecting, I was able to continue.
The problem is common enough, that hopefully Adobe will address. In the mean time, try repairing your Aperture library, checking permissions, exporting a subset of your library for a test, or try putting that library subset on an external drive. (Can usually avoid permissions issues.) -
How do I import images from Aperture into Lightroom 5?
I've just installed Lightroom 5 onto my Mac. I waited for it to ask me which image management software I wanted to use as default (I currently use Aperture); then I went looking to find the 'source' to enable me to import images. It doesn't recognise Aperture or the 3000+ images held in its folders.
How can I import the images?Have you tried some of the online articles?
e.g. http://lightroomsolutions.com/articles/migrating-from-aperture-to-lightroom-where-do-i-beg in/ -
i know that there is a script to import images into aperture, but i need to use this with a tethered camera....so i use a canon app to shoot files to a folder and as the files come in, i need them to get imported as they keep coming in....i am only referencing them, so they are actually staying within the folder....i can import the files but i don't know how to/which command "keeps checking the folder for new files that came in" hope this makes sense....
i know that there is a "hot folder" app available which seems to be a automator app, but it is superslow and only brings in every 4th or 5th image (and sometimes just brings everything to a halt...)i know that there is a script to import images into aperture, but i need to use this with a tethered camera....so i use a canon app to shoot files to a folder and as the files come in, i need them to get imported as they keep coming in....i am only referencing them, so they are actually staying within the folder....i can import the files but i don't know how to/which command "keeps checking the folder for new files that came in" hope this makes sense....
